Shallow focus
Shallow focus is a photographic and cinematographic technique
incorporating a small depth of field. In shallow focus one plane of
the image is in focus while the rest is out of focus. Shallow focus
is typically used to emphasize one part of the image over
another. Source from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shallow_focus

Deep focus
Deep focus is a photographic and cinematographic technique
using a large depth of field. Depth of field is the front-to-back
range of focus in an image — that is, how much of it appears
sharp and clear. Consequently, in deep focus the foreground,
middle-ground and background are all in focus. This can be
achieved through use of the hyperfocal distance of the camera
lens. Source from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_focus

White balance
White balance is a camera setting that adjusts for lighting in order to make white
objects appear white in photos. This is more difficult than it might seem due to
the fact that light cast from different sources is different in colour (technically
called temperature). That is to say, light is rarely truly white in nature. The light
from an incandescent or halogen bulb, for example, is red/orange in colour, while
that from the sun is relatively blue. A proper white balance setting in a camera will
prevent, for example, a white bed sheet in a photo from appearing orange in
colour when it is being illuminated by a candle.
