The Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination is a test used to diagnose the presence and type of aphasia through evaluation of language behaviors and identification of aphasic syndromes. It assesses auditory comprehension, speech, word retrieval, repetition, writing, and reading comprehension over 5 major sections. The exam takes 3-5 hours to administer but has a short form that takes 1 hour. It is designed for patients with brain damage, both with and without aphasia, and can be used for inpatients or outpatients.
