1. Gorilla
by Anthony Browne
Visual style
Each image gives a clear understanding of what is happening in the story. The story is about a toy
gorilla that comes to life and grows to the size of a real gorilla. This means that the images will need
to include the gorilla in most of them, as it is the titular character. In each picture within the story there
is a gorilla in each image whether it be a lampshade a book or some cereal, there is always some
form of a gorilla somewhere in the story. Because some children can find these types of images
frightening in some cases then the author will have had to change the slight look of the gorilla to make
it more child friendly, the gorilla has a smile on his face which shows that he is a friendly animal
compared to the real life gorilla’s. it has lots of detail with each images which makes it look realistic,
there is lots of colour in each image with some pages having bright colouring and others having a
darker tone, this is used to show the day and night cycle for children to have a better understanding.
Layout
The layout of the book is that it has one smaller image on the left side of the page with some text next
to the image which tells the reader what is happening this is the same with the image on the right
except this image is much larger in size. This could be due to the story moving on to a new scene.
Text per page
There is about 30-40 words per page which is not many when compared to a adults book, but this is a
child's book so minimum words will be needed for such a short story
