Survey Details Purpose to get feedback, comments and suggestions on BoQ. To help channel BoQ, to make it better. to get opinion’s before launching the piloted effort, currently within Lindon team, to entire account, from the coming quarter. Survey Details Slide 3 Questions that were asked in the survey encompassed what people thought of BoQ, why they were interested, would they continue and many others. It was targeted only to those individuals who were currently part of BoQ.Below are the questions.. What do you like about the BoQ program? Do you feel BoQ is a good initiative? Would you encourage others to participate in BoQ? If so, why do you think one should do so, what are its benefits? Would you like to continue with BoQ, after completion of a BoQ quarter? Why? Has it benefited you in some way? If so, How? BoQ helps provide me a platform to, A word/sentence that you would like to describe about BoQ Any improvements you would like to suggest
Overall Survey Summary All the minds feel that BoQ is a great learning initiative. It is because, BoQ provides a platform to learn new things every time, along with providing an opportunity for one to share his knowledge and learn from others. It is also a purely voluntary process and so the individuals get the freedom to choose what they want to learn. It is also not a forum where only one individual always speaks, it provides every one an opportunity to learn and lead a discussion. Many also expressed that it is the discussion part of it which makes it still more powerful along with the collective learning. Due to the discussions it gives far better clarity of the concepts and other aspects when one just reads from the book. People also feel that it is helping them to keep abreast with the things which they don't know about along with helping them in increasing the knowledge about a particular subject by sharing views with the other team members. It also urges an individual on the habit of reading books, which is always good. One way it forces people to read book for the discussion. A response says, "Now I read a book on technology once in a week, which I never did before“ Few also felt that it gives an opportunity to people to manage such groups (as Group leads) Support for purchase of books at discounted price Slide 4
Overall Survey Summary (Contd…) All the minds express their desire to suggest other non participating minds to join BoQ, because of its very many advantages. Many mention that it is a platform for continuous learning, with options for not just the technical but also non-technical and behavioral disciplines. Makes learning fun (When friends come together to learn) Few also feel that the learning credits makes it a lucrative advantage too. It has also helped many to improve their reading habits because of its semi-structured learning plan, which people themselves discuss and come up with. It helps one to learn and share other than the regular work related topics Helps people improve communication skills. An individual also felt that he/she has been able to incorporate some of the lessons learned not only in technical work but also in the way he/she looks at situations/products/people in general. Overall Survey Summary (Contd…)Improvements: Overall it is going good and not many people feel that it currently requires a process change. Few of the suggestions that have come in are, We can give a freedom to join anyone at anytime. Not necessarily at the starting time.  Would like to have live code demonstrations for complex concepts. When a BOQ topic is completed, It will be nice if a feedback on the book is collected from each member of a group and an overall rating is given to that, so that it helps others ,I mean new people to decide whether to go ahead with the book/topic or not. We could track/record as audio or video rather than just ppt. We could have an internal account library within which all the books related to BOQ plus additional books helpful for minds are available. More funds for snacks and the option to carry forward the amount. Slide 6

Survey Results What do you like about the BoQ program? We keep learning new things every time we meet. Sharing others knowledge Opportunity to learn and share your views This program is good because I have clarified doubts of very basic concepts. Knowledge sharing and experience sharing Helps in sharing of knowledge about an interested book. The best thing about BOQ is I can be a part of a discussion in which I am interested ( its not like training sessions etc where sometimes we have to take it unwillingly) and BOQ sessions are not boring ;-) People learn more while discussing among them on a certain topic Best learning initiative. People can leverage knowledge through this BOQ. Collective learning  This is a good program and help minds in increasing their knowledge level in all aspects.  It maintains the habit of reading books which is always good.Good initiative  Slide 8
Survey Results What do you like about the BoQ program? (Contd…) Its a new initiative for an individual to enhance his knowledge apart from the routine work executed by him, also I like the planned way in which the program is executed. Its a continuous learning process and we learn things whether we are busy with work or not. This is helping me to keep me updated with the things which I don't know and helpful in increasing the knowledge about particular subject by sharing views with the other team members. Its a nice initiative for learning and sharing. Many people come together in a room and share their thoughts and discuss. A forum where you can share and learn on a topic / technology. Able a learn a new concept end-to-end  We are learning new things through this program.  Will get to know different things (processes) apart from technical knowledge. Helps people from different team to come together and learn (probably implement) something new. Gives opportunity to people to manage such groups (Group leads) Support for purchase of books at discounted price. Slide 9
Survey Results Would you encourage others to participate in BoQ? If so, why do you think one should do so, what are its benefits? Yes, I encourage others to take up BOQ. Benefits - Knowledge Sharing We can learn new things (what we desired) apart from work. We can refresh ourselves from the work No. It's independent decision by the individuals. It is self paced and good learning platform. I would encourage all to participate in their subjects of interest. With the discussions going on it gives far better clarity of the concepts or other aspects Yes I would encourage to do so. Because one may get an opportunity to go through an interested book and share his knowledge. Yes I would like to, because it's all about share and learn  Yes. Since BoQ relates to our project activities, we can gain more expertise which helps to execute the project activities Yes. Learning from others is a good experience Slide 10
Survey Results Would you encourage others to participate in BoQ? If so, why do you think one should do so, what are its benefits? (Contd…) Yes I would suggest everyone to be a part of BOQ. There a number of benefits like : 1. You can learn/know the subjects of your interest, which may be not at all related to your field.2. You can learn the things required for your project, which helps to do well.3. Will improve your ability to remember things ( whatever you read) and also it helps to improve your presentation skills.4. You will get Points and also snacks :-D5. Can improve our weak areas..  Yes, Knowledge improvement, sharing knowledge, cross team bonding,  fun, credit points, help project execution smoothly. A very good platform to learn and share knowledge not just from my own point of view but from every team members point of view.  Yes, Just because the routine work does give a person some knowledge on what he works but reading some stuff does make a person to think in different directions which ultimately will aid the way the person works.  Yes. I would suggest others to participate because of the above mentioned reasons. I would like others to take advantage of this initiative. Yes I will. Because there is continuous learning happening with not only the technical but also non- technical Yes I will surely encourage others. People get to learn many which we might be not be aware of in the latest technology.  Yes. Structured learning of new concepts.  No, One should participate in BOQ out of self interest to learn something, rather than keep thing them in a tight spot to join BoQ. By doing this the benefit is that the joinee will also put his heart in all the activities of BOQ.  Yes. By doing this we will get to know different processes or techniques to be followed to increase the efficiency of software engineer. 1. Survey Results Would you like to continue with BoQ, after completion of a BoQ quarter? Why? Yes. To complete another book… Yes, for Personal improvement, regular reading, knowledge sharing Definitely, it's very useful for every one Yes, to turn the learning into a tangible benefit Yes. It will be interesting to read the book and share it with others  Yes. Personally, I would like to improve my reading habits. Yes, to know on non-technical stuff.  Yes. Just discussing on topic will not suffice my learning needs. We have a lot to learn together Yes, Because after the end of the BOQ you would have learn something enhancing your knowledge. Yes. I would like to continue. Learning is a never ending process and I would like to continue learning things till I can. Yes. I will like to learn some thing other. I learn many things when we go into a room and discuss on the contents of the book. Yes, as I will learning something new every quarter. Yes. We can start with new book with different Yes.1. It helps me learn/share other than the regular work2. It helps my communication skills.3. I get learning credits.4. I get to buy a good book which otherwise I, probably, would not have done. Slide 12
Survey Results Has it benefited you in some way? If so, How? Yes, it has benefited. I can finish reading 1 complete book in at least 1 quarter Yes. As part the BoQ I learned Exchange server 2k7 and no need of spending extra time during project crunch.  It has increased my awareness on topics that I did not know Yes, improving my knowledge. Very much. It helps to analyze different view points and understand the practical use of many concepts discussed. It helped to find some time to read good books. Yes it has benefited me, in many ways. The things which I missed while trying to know individually are easily learnt while in the group. It has helped me to learn more apart form the project activities. Conducting training sessions helped a lot to know more things from other members. It will be a interactive session.  Yes, learned exchange 2007 concepts which will help in the current project. One way is it forces us to read book for the sake of discussion. With the current BOQ topic, have got to know various approaches towards testing and attitudes for a tester. It has helped me learn some concepts which if I would not have read the book, I would not have known. Slide 13
Survey Results Has it benefited you in some way? If so, How? (Contd…) Yes it is beneficial. I am learning about the things which we don't usually follow in our project as there are many process and standards in the testing domain. Its always good to know things and be informed, that will come handy when it is required in the future. Yes allot!.Since I am the part of Exchange-Server-2k7 in BOQ. It helped a lot in setting up the exch-2k7 installation. And we also did in the lab. I am basically a Java person and am working in C#. I came to know many new things available in C# 2008 after participating in BoQ. It has helped to bring the team members on the same page on the technologies we work on.  Yes, I have learned some new concepts. Now I read a book on technology once in a week, which I never did before I got to know different processes to be followed while logging a bug and how the decision making is done. I have been able to incorporate some of the lessons learned not only in technical work but also in the way I look at situations/products/people in general.  Slide 14
Survey Results A word/sentence that you would like to describe about BoQ Nice platform to learn. IT is simply great and it works well to improve every individual. Common forum to improve the knowledge. A good forum for knowledge sharing A very good initiative to learn and share. Is a very good platform for learning, sharing views and knowing other people Knowledge Tree. Each BoQ is a fruit in the Knowledge Tree. Survey Results Any improvements you would like to suggest We should be adhering to the schedule. We should give freedom for people to join anytime. Not necessarily at the starting time. Would like to have live code demonstrations for confusing concepts.  When a BOQ topic is completed, It will be better if a feedback on the book is collected from each member of a group and an overall rating is given to that, so that it helps others, I mean new people to decide whether to go ahead with the book/topic or not.  Can it be tracked as audio or video rather than just ppt? Give frequent feedback to the group members so that they will have interest in continuing. Give credit points based on attendance and not on overall participation. Increase the snacks amount per person. The discussions should happen even more frequently and more seriously Slide 16
Survey Results Any improvements you would like to suggest (Contd…) May be we should come up with some technique to make all the sessions interactive where everyone should express their views on particular topic than only one person talking about it. People do participate in sharing but I meant to look for some idea to make that happen more. Can we have library within where in all the books related to BoQ plus additional books which are helpful for minds. Due to project pressures, we need to postpone many meetings. We have to come up with a plan to continue with the meetings without any break. It's too early to talk about improvements. Right now some of the BOQ sessions are taken in such a way that one person will be responsible for moderating a session on a round robin basis. This has been misinterpreted as that he will be giving a lecture rather than moderating. Participants take it for granted that they don't have to prepare for a session for which they are not moderating. More time should be given for the BoQ sessions and every one should take this seriously. Slide 17

  • 4. Overall Survey Summary All the minds feel that BoQ is a great learning initiative. It is because, BoQ provides a platform to learn new things every time, along with providing an opportunity for one to share his knowledge and learn from others. It is also a purely voluntary process and so the individuals get the freedom to choose what they want to learn. It is also not a forum where only one individual always speaks, it provides every one an opportunity to learn and lead a discussion. Many also expressed that it is the discussion part of it which makes it still more powerful along with the collective learning. Due to the discussions it gives far better clarity of the concepts and other aspects when one just reads from the book. People also feel that it is helping them to keep abreast with the things which they don't know about along with helping them in increasing the knowledge about a particular subject by sharing views with the other team members. It also urges an individual on the habit of reading books, which is always good. One way it forces people to read book for the discussion. Many mention that it is a platform for continuous learning, with options for not just the technical but also non-technical and behavioral disciplines. Makes learning fun (When friends come together to learn) Few also feel that the learning credits makes it a lucrative advantage too. It has also helped many to improve their reading habits because of its semi-structured learning plan, which people themselves discuss and come up with. It helps one to learn and share other than the regular work related topics Helps people improve communication skills. An individual also felt that he/she has been able to incorporate some of the lessons learned not only in technical work but also in the way he/she looks at situations/products/people in general. Few of the suggestions that have come in are, We can give a freedom to join anyone at anytime. Not necessarily at the starting time. Would like to have live code demonstrations for complex concepts. When a BOQ topic is completed, It will be nice if a feedback on the book is collected from each member of a group and an overall rating is given to that, so that it helps others ,I mean new people to decide whether to go ahead with the book/topic or not. We could track/record as audio or video rather than just ppt. We could have an internal account library within which all the books related to BOQ plus additional books helpful for minds are available. More funds for snacks and the option to carry forward the amount. Slide 6

The best thing about BOQ is I can be a part of a discussion in which I am interested ( its not like training sessions etc where sometimes we have to take it unwillingly) and BOQ sessions are not boring ;-) People learn more while discussing among them on a certain topic Best learning initiative. (Contd…) Its a new initiative for an individual to enhance his knowledge apart from the routine work executed by him, also I like the planned way in which the program is executed. Its a continuous learning process and we learn things whether we are busy with work or not. This is helping me to keep me updated with the things which I don't know and helpful in increasing the knowledge about particular subject by sharing views with the other team members. Its a nice initiative for learning and sharing. Many people come together in a room and share their thoughts and discuss. A forum where you can share and learn on a topic / technology. There a number of benefits like : 1. You can learn/know the subjects of your interest, which may be not at all related to your field.2. You can learn the things required for your project, which helps to do well.3. Will improve your ability to remember things ( whatever you read) and also it helps to improve your presentation skills.4. You will get Points and also snacks :-D5. Can improve our weak areas.. Yes, Knowledge improvement, sharing knowledge, cross team bonding, fun, credit points, help project execution smoothly. A very good platform to learn and share knowledge not just from my own point of view but from every team members point of view. As part the BoQ I learned Exchange server 2k7 and no need of spending extra time during project crunch. It has increased my awareness on topics that I did not know Yes, improving my knowledge. Very much. It helps to analyze different view points and understand the practical use of many concepts discussed. It helped to find some time to read good books. Yes it has benefited me, in many ways. The things which I missed while trying to know individually are easily learnt while in the group. I am learning about the things which we don't usually follow in our project as there are many process and standards in the testing domain. Its always good to know things and be informed, that will come handy when it is required in the future. Yes allot!.Since I am the part of Exchange-Server-2k7 in BOQ. It helped a lot in setting up the exch-2k7 installation. And we also did in the lab. I am basically a Java person and am working in C#. I came to know many new things available in C# 2008 after participating in BoQ. It has helped to bring the team members on the same page on the technologies we work on. Yes, I have learned some new concepts. Now I read a book on technology once in a week, which I never did before I got to know different processes to be followed while logging a bug and how the decision making is done. I have been able to incorporate some of the lessons learned not only in technical work but also in the way I look at situations/products/people in general. Slide 14

Survey Results Any improvements you would like to suggest (Contd…) May be we should come up with some technique to make all the sessions interactive where everyone should express their views on particular topic than only one person talking about it. People do participate in sharing but I meant to look for some idea to make that happen more. Can we have library within where in all the books related to BoQ plus additional books which are helpful for minds. Due to project pressures, we need to postpone many meetings. We have to come up with a plan to continue with the meetings without any break. It's too early to talk about improvements. Right now some of the BOQ sessions are taken in such a way that one person will be responsible for moderating a session on a round robin basis. This has been misinterpreted as that he will be giving a lecture rather than moderating. Participants take it for granted that they don't have to prepare for a session for which they are not moderating. More time should be given for the BoQ sessions and every one should take this seriously. Slide 17
