Norman Bates suffers from dissociative identity disorder and psychosis. He blacks out and takes on the personality of his overbearing mother Norma, who he lives with at their motel. Norman kills his father during a blackout and keeps his mother's death a secret by keeping her body in their house. He struggles with his identities and mental state, often lashing out violently without knowing due to the stress.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Usually caused from stress
5.
6. Norman is the son who has psychological
problems
Norma is the mother who baby's him and
convers all his tracks
Dylan is Norman’s brother who is completely
normal but gets pushed away
7. They move out of town and buy
the Bates Motel in Oregon with
the money from Normans
Father's life insurance that
passed away in an “accident”
8. Norman has psychological problem like blacking out and hallucinating things or
turning into his mother
Blacks out or turns into his other personality when angry or mad
Norma knows this but baby’s her son to much and avoids the problem
Doesn’t get him help until things get to much for her to handle or to late
9.
10. Norman blacks out when he sees his father
hitting his mother Norma, because of the
amount of stress he is in and hits his father
over the head with a blender killing him
without even knowing because he’s in this
“blacked out” state of mind. His mother
Norma of course covering his tracks claiming
to the insurance a shelf from the garage fell
on him making it a freak accident.
Norman has no idea that he killed his father
11. Norman does taxidermy and finds this dog that got ran over
in front of his house. He was super upset about it and
stuffed the dog. When he blacks out like after finding out
his mother passed away he hallucinates as if the dog and all
the other animals he stuffed, have come back to life. Telling
them that his mother will be home soon.
When Norma dies Norman goes back to the graveyard and
un buries his mother and takes her back to the house
because he can not handle being separated from his mother
and he hallucinates that his mom is still a live and still is
speaking, cleaning, and cooking for him. When she has
actually passed away
12. Norman Bates gets put into a mental
facility and while in there and meeting with
his Psychologist the Psychologist triggers
him to get him to go into his second
personality, which is his mother, and
responds to the Psychologist as his mother.
The Psychologist catches on and starts
asking him questions as if he was Norma
not Norman.
Dylan and Norman are left alone when
Norma has a panic attack and leaves. While
Norma is gone Norman turns into his
second personality, which is Norma even
putting on her robe and starts asking Dylan
what he wanted to eat for breakfast and to
go wake up his brother Norman.
13. Norman starts getting close to this
girl named Bradley. They develop
this relationship and one day make a
plan for the both of them to run
away. They get in the car to run
away and while driving Bradley tells
Norman that he's doing the right
thing getting away from is mother.
Norman starts to feel stressed after
realizing he wont be with his mom
and actually turns into his mother.
He ended up killing the poor girl
because “Norma” was upset the she
was taking her Norman from her.
14. MY TAKE
The creators of this series actually based it on
some guy named Ed Gein. Who also had the
same disorders.
They director really studied Ed Gein on how he
acted and what would trigger his mental
disorders
They really wanted to give people insight on
what life is like with these kind of mental
disorders which I believe they did a great job on.
