A blister is a small pocket of fluid in the skin's upper layers that forms as a response to friction or pressure. Common causes of blisters include ill-fitting shoes, friction, burns, sunburn, allergic reactions, and skin infections. To treat a blister, clean and drain the fluid by sterilizing and puncturing it in several spots with a needle, then apply antibiotic ointment and a bandage.
