Blended Learning
◦ Learn via electronic and online media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching
◦ Also called ‘Hybrid Learning’ or ‘Mixed-Mode Learning’
◦ Use of various online resources e.g. online videos, podcast, weblogs, vlogs, video-
conferencing, presentation-tools and screencast
◦ Teachers interact more with students specific concepts, skills, questions, or learning
problems
◦ Three categories – a) blended presentation and interaction e.g. Flipped Learning, b)
blended blocks e.g. programme flow model with sequential activities e.g. WebQuest, and
c) fully online e.g. MOOCs

◦ Constant feedback
◦ Content delivered via different modes
◦ Catering to diverse needs of the learners
◦ Variety in assessment strategies

How to make Blended Learning Methods more Effective
◦ Well defined ‘Learning Objectives’
◦ Convey learning goals to students well in advance
◦ Well-structured learning resources
◦ Selection of appropriate technology
◦ Disclosure of grading criterion in advance
◦ Organize content in logical arrangement of modules or units
◦ Self-paced and asynchronous
◦ Instructor should be prompt in responding to students queries, posts and entries
◦ Provide attention, assistance and guidance to the students when required
◦ Instructor should also demonstrate role modelling of desired behaviour by contributing in the
process
How to make Blended Learning Methods more Effective
◦ Give brief description of the videos, audios or ant other media files assigned for the
course
◦ Include quiz and short questions after completion of every unit
◦ The Segment or unit should be of a shorter duration 2-15 minutes to encourage
learner’s retention
◦ Breakdown the pieces of information to be conveyed in every segment
◦ Assign collaborative problem solving tasks
◦ Extend technical support to the learner as and when required
◦ Respect the copyright rules

Blended Learning ◦ Learn via electronic and online media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching ◦ Also called ‘Hybrid Learning’ or ‘Mixed-Mode Learning’ ◦ Use of various online resources e.g. online videos, podcast, weblogs, vlogs, video- conferencing, presentation-tools and screencast ◦ Teachers interact more with students specific concepts, skills, questions, or learning problems ◦ Three categories – a) blended presentation and interaction e.g. Flipped Learning, b) blended blocks e.g. programme flow model with sequential activities e.g. WebQuest, and c) fully online e.g. MOOCs

How to make Blended Learning Methods more Effective ◦ Well defined ‘Learning Objectives’ ◦ Convey learning goals to students well in advance ◦ Well-structured learning resources ◦ Selection of appropriate technology ◦ Disclosure of grading criterion in advance ◦ Organize content in logical arrangement of modules or units ◦ Self-paced and asynchronous ◦ Instructor should be prompt in responding to students queries, posts and entries ◦ Provide attention, assistance and guidance to the students when required ◦ Instructor should also demonstrate role modelling of desired behaviour by contributing in the process

How to make Blended Learning Methods more Effective ◦ Give brief description of the videos, audios or ant other media files assigned for the course ◦ Include quiz and short questions after completion of every unit ◦ The Segment or unit should be of a shorter duration 2-15 minutes to encourage learner’s retention ◦ Breakdown the pieces of information to be conveyed in every segment ◦ Assign collaborative problem solving tasks ◦ Extend technical support to the learner as and when required ◦ Respect the copyright rules
