Capgras Syndrome Research Paper
Capgras Syndrome, also known as Capgras Delusion, is a neuropsychological condition or illogical
belief in which an individual holds a belief that a familiar person or place such as a friend, spouse,
family member or even pets, have been replaced with an exact duplicate. In 1923, Joseph Capgras, a
French psychiatrist, had discovered this delusion and have seen that this disorder is associated with
people who have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder and often people who have a brain injury or
disease (Bier).
Capgras syndrome is usually followed after brain damage such as a stroke, drug overdose, and many
other causes typically on the right side of the brain. It s the lost of connection between the visual face
recognition area in the right temporal lobe and the areas of the brain that provides the emotional
response to the face. Capgras syndrome is often times confused with prosopagnosia, an impairment in
the recognition of faces, this however, is not the same thing. (Prosopagnosia, 2016, July 1) Most of the
time people with prosopagnosia can see the same face many times, but still can t recognize who it is,

What would it be like to be in their position and the amount of feelings they might be having.
Correcting or arguing with an individual would just lead up to more misguided information and
confusion, and confusion is just disease at work (Bier). Although, acknowledging them emotionally is
a great way to calm them down and connecting to them through their ears and sound only because
their eyes would be deceiving them. Capgras syndrome would be classified into syndromes like
Bipolar disorders and other delusions. As of right now, there is no prescribed treatment available for
the Capgras syndrome. This disorder can only be controlled by sympathizing with the patient.
Medication can also be prescribed to help hallucination, although, this hasn t been a confirmed

Okay people we ve got to get started with this meeting, we re wasting time! This man is out there right
as we speak, who knows what he s planning! chief of the deputy, Brian Snark exclaimed frantically

Calm down chief, we ll figure this out, said detective Derek Hunt.
Calm down, CALM DOWN, you want me to calm down! There is a mass murderer on the loose, and
you want me to calm down?!
Chief Snark was furious, he was definitely taking this situation more seriously the seriously than

Cons And Disadvantages Of Social Media
Social Media Social media are technologies or networks that allow people, nowadays, to share
informations and connect with each other. There are different types of social media, but the most used
are Facebook, YouTube, Gmail, Yahoo, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc. With the advancement in technology,
today these social media are an everyday part of life in most part of the world. They are used for
different reason and the outcome is always different. Because everything has both advantages and
disadvantages or inconveniences, social media too affect the user in both positives and negatives
ways. Like it is stated above, social media can be used for communication. The new technologies have
made it easier to connect the world in just a glimpse. With a network like WhatsApp or Facebook, a
person here in the United States is able to talk and see at the same time his friends and family
members who are in different part of the world. Social media are another way to make friends too. For
instance, if a person is too shy or just too quiet to speak, social media can help that person have
friends and communicate with them. In other words, technology and social media work together to
link the world. Other than connecting people, social media can also be used for advertising. Today,
about all businesses market their products through advertisements. If not for the advertisements,
nearly every businesses would not be able to sell their latest products. People learn about their country
or other countries in the world through news, which are given through social media like YouTube
channel. They also can learn about new products or weather conditions in their areas; they are able
now to learn about everything that is happening either where they live or in other places. Social media
are sources of publicity of new products; they help people stay informed about everything. Just as they
have advantages, social media also have disadvantages such as being addictive. They evolves together
with new technologies and renders people, especially young people, lazy and sometimes lonely. Dr.
Stephen Ilardi says, As smartphones have become

Essay on The Glaciers of Yosemite National Park
The Glaciers of Yosemite National Park
One of nature s most powerful and influential forces is also one of nature s coldest and slowest
processes. These great icy rivers are called glaciers and have formed some of the most beautiful
scenery on this planet. These enormous frozen bodies of water are often thousands of feet wide and
deep and many miles long. They cover millions of acres of land and drastically change the land into
beautiful mountains with many amazing features. One of the areas where glaciers have been most
influential is in Yosemite National Park in California. Here almost every glacial feature is shown.
However, before this information about glaciers in Yosemite was clear, there was the Yosemite

(Muir, 1880, P. 557)
A glacier occurs when the climate of an area is so cold that new snow does not completely melt each
summer and more snow is added in the winter. After many winters the accumulation of this snow
becomes compact and re crystallizes, thus forming a glacier. Currently, glaciers cover about ten
percent of the Earth s surface. Yet, in the past, glaciers covered much more land and were thousands of
meters thick. (Tierney)
Glaciers take part in two of the Earth s cycles hydrology and the rock cycle. When precipitation falls
at high attitudes where glaciers exist, the rain or snow becomes a part of the glacier and may be stored
in the glacier for up to thousands of years. Glaciers move very slow but are very important in erosion
of rocks. (Lutgens Tarbuck)
There are different types of glaciers that exist. Valley or alpine glaciers exist in mountain valleys.
They occupy the space where a stream once was and become a glacial stream flowing down the
valley. Ice sheets are a very different type of glacier. They are much larger and are at times referred to
as continental ice sheets. They flow in all directions and cover the land they are on. An ice cap is
another kind of glacier that covers the uplands and plateaus. They cover the surface they are on totally,
but are smaller than ice sheets. The final type of glacier is a piedmont glacier. These cover the land at
the bases of mountains and

Shrek Research Papers
DreamWorks Animation has released over 30 animated films since 1998. Among their highest
grossing films are the Shrek franchise, Madagascar 3, and Kung Fu Panda 2. For this analysis I shall
be looking at Shrek 2 and Kung Fu Panda 2, and examining what may make these movies a bit
unsuccessful despite their success. Shrek 2 is DreamWorks highest grossing film at $919.8 million
worldwide, topping its first film Shrek. This film may be the highest grossing film but what about it
may have fallen short? I found the opening of the movie using a storybook to not be as successful as
its usage in the first Shrek. The issue of using the storybook may have stemmed from how they
transitioned to the actually movie, having the 2D storybook picture of Prince Charming suddenly
change into the 3D model was a bit jarring and could have been done better. Using a different way to
deliver the opening monologue, or even changing the dialogue so it didn t have to be read as if it were
a storybook could have fixed this issue.
DreamWorks tends to shift the style they animate in from movie to movie and the Shrek franchise

The 2D style for Po s flashbacks works fine at times with the 3D aspects of the film, but then they also
have a cutout sequence at the beginning of the film that has a completely different design. I feel that
the best way to fix this issue is by choosing between the necessary styles. The 2D animation works
better with the 2D in my opinion, while I feel like the cutout animation is out of place. If they wanted
to have the opening in a different style I would suggest sticking with only 2 styles of animation in the
movie. I do have to say that the visuals of the film were stunning, the color palates looked very nice
and I specifically enjoyed the contrast of red and black that was often used during fight sequences

Groundwater Contamination Research Paper
When there is an addition of undesired substances from human activities in the groundwater, it can
cause groundwater contamination. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination in
ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are used
in cleaning products and solutions containing chromium, which are used in metal plating, lead to the
groundwater contamination. These industrial wastes are dumped in storage tanks and they leak, thus
causing contamination. There is greater awareness of the issues and hazards of the dumping of
chemical waste and there are laws restricting the dumping of this waste. Since many individuals rely
on groundwater for drinking water, many of them are drinking contaminated water. Due to this, there
are many health risks including, hepatitis, poisoning and cancer when exposed to polluted water. As
well, the wildlife can be harmed from the contaminated ground water. A good disposal method of
ground waste consists of a chemical treatment that is able to convert the hazardous waste into
environmentally safe materials. A highly toxic chemical, trichloroethylene, becomes non toxic when
the chlorine atoms are converted to chloride anions. As well, when chromium containing waste has
highly toxic chromate anions are converted into Chromium (III) ion, ... Show more content on

Estrogen Receptors Essay
Estrogen receptors: Estrogens act via two types of receptors (ERα and ERβ), which are members of a
large super family of proteins that function as ligand activated transcription factors (Katzenellenbogen
and Katzenellenbogen, 1996). Both receptors have direct differentiative influences on reproductive
organs and have similar binding affinity to estradiol (Kuiper et al., 1997; Drummond et al., 1999).
Although, there are significant amino acid differences in the regions of these receptors that would be
expected to influence transcriptional activity (Hall and McDonnell, 1999). More recently, two
Estrogen Related Receptors, (ERRα/ERR1) and (ERRβ/ERR2) have also been characterized.
The presence of oestrogen receptors have been shown within the hypothalamus, pituitary, ovary,
oviduct, uterus, cervix and vagina of several species including ... Show more content on

Estrogen signaling is selectively stimulated or inhibited depending upon a balance between ERα and
ERβ activities in target organs. ERs have five distinct regions (Skafar and Zhao, 2008). These distinct
regions correspond to functional and structural units called domain (Fig. 1). The N terminal of the A
and B domains are highly conserved only between chicken and human estrogen receptors, but this
distinction is much less clear in the other steroid Receptors. Therefore, region A and B are combined
into A/B region in most cases. This region is a modulatory region and it is the most variable both in
size and sequence. The A/B domain consists of Activation Function 1 (AF1), which contributes to the
transcriptional activity of ERs and is an

Examples Of Direct Characterization In Lamb To The Slaughter
In the short story Lamb to the Slaughter, written by Roald Dahl, Dahl uses direct and indirect
characterization to give us both realistic and improbable portrayals of characters, In addition to
showing us the values and perspective of the characters. In this short story the author states, This was
her sixth month expecting a child. (Dahl, 1). Direct characterization is when the author directly
provides information on the personality or background on the character instead of indirectly revealing
it through actions and speech. This quote obviously utilizes direct characterization by describing
background information on Mary Maloney. Additionally, the fact that it was her sixth month expecting
a child is direct characterization because we did not have to assume it through actions and speech, the
author directly mentioned it in the first page. Not only does Dahl use direct characterization, but also
indirect characterization. In the story the author states, It s probably right under our noses. What do
you think Jack? And in the other room Mary Maloney began to laugh. (Dahl 4). Indirect
characterization is when the author reveals background and the personality of the character through
thoughts and actions. In like manner, so does this quote. In this quote the author reveals the
personality of Mary Maloney through her speech instead of directly giving us information. In this
quote, Mary Maloney laughs at the death of her husband and we can assume that she is a cruel

Emergency Management Plan
The town should develop an emergency management plan in the event of weapons of mass destruction
terrorist attack. Emergency management includes four basic phases: mitigation, response, recovery,
and preparedness (Maras, 2013). First we will look at mitigation, in this process the focus is to lessen
the effects of the emergency. Then maximize the effort to reduce potentials for future disasters. The
second step, response, seeks to effectively respond to an emergency in order to save lives, protect
property, and meet basic human needs (Maras, 2013). First responders are very critical at this point
and their training will save lives in these types of situations. The people in the community will all

Prufrock
T.S. Eliot s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock examines a single character, Prufrock, who has
been influenced by three very different modes of thinking: Romanticism, Realism, and Modernism.
These influences cause inner conflict within the character that he struggles to overcome throughout
the course of the poem. Eliot s Prufrock is both psychologically and socially crippled because he
embodies both Romantic and Realist ideals, i.e. the heroism of the individual and the awareness of
insurmountable, objective realities, respectively, while possessing the self conscious mind of a man
influenced by a culture of Modernism. Robert Cook, in his analysis, titled Emerson s Self Reliance,
Sweeney, and Prufrock, of Ralph Emerson s self reliant man, the epitome of a Romantic, and T.S.
Eliot s Prufrock, draws a number of distinctions between the two writers. He holds that Prufrock is
Eliot s more realistic response to Emerson s idealistic man. Ron Banerjee examines the epigraph of the
poem, which is a verse from Dante s Divine Comedy, and, among other things, discovers how it
illuminates the unchangeable reality of the world around Prufrock. Romanticism heralds the heroism
and nonconformity of the noble individual. The desire to be great and known is innate to all men,
including Prufrock; however, Prufrock s crippling self consciousness disables him from breaking
away from society as the true Romantic man would strive to do. It is evident by reading the poem that

Difference Between Monopolistic Competition And Oligopoly
The determination of prices of commodities depends upon the type of market structure in which they
are produced. There are various markets prevailing in an economy like (a) perfect competition,
(b)Monopoly,(c) Monopolistic Competition, and (d) Oligopoly. Monopoly, monopolistic competition
and oligopoly are generally grouped under imperfect competition, since these three markets differ in
respect to the degree of imperfections in the market.
Before explaining all these markets in detail, it will be quite important to understand the meaning of
the term market in economics.
1.2 Meaning of Market
Market in general means a particular place or locality where goods are sold and purchased. However,
in economics, by the term market we do not mean any particular place or locality in which goods are
bought or sold. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Large number of buyers and sellers: The first important feature of monopolistic competition is that
under it there are relatively large numbers of buyers each satisfying a small share of the market
demand for product. The number of buyers in monopolistic competition is also large. Because there is
large number of firms under monopolistic competition, there exists stiff competition between them.
2. Product Differentiation: The second important feature of Monopolistic Competition is that products
produced by various firms are differentiated. This means that the products of various firms under
monopolistic competition are not same but similar. Therefore there prices cannot be very much
different. Because of similar products and close substitutes the firms under monopolistic competition
compete with each other.
3. Selling Costs: In monopolistic competition the products are close substitutes of one another, In
order to differentiate their products firms incurs selling cost Selling costs refer to the expenditure on

Cystic Fibrosis
Can viruses used as vectors in the process of gene therapy be an effective treatment for Cystic
Fibrosis? Firstly, Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic and recessive disease that mostly affects the lungs and
pancreas. This leads to phlegm accumulation, salty sweat, male infertility, shortness of breath and
increased risk of infection, which all contribute to premature death (CFF, 2017). Since it is recessive,
you need two copies of the gene to manifest the disease, but 1/30 Americans have at least one copy of
the gene, so it is easily passed on (Hulslander 2017). To treat this disease, some scientists believe a
viral vector can be used in gene therapy while others say using a virus is too risky and suggest a non
viral approach, such as liposomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene therapy is one of the newest, yet controversial solutions to treating many diseases, including
Cystic Fibrosis. Gene therapy is the insertion of a normal gene into deficient cells using an appropriate
vector (Hart, et al. 2006). However, it does have potential risks, leading to the argument of if they
should be used or not, and if used, is a viral or non viral approach better. It becomes complicated since
many symptoms of these diseases begin in early childhood, and deciding whether or not to subject a
child to these possible dangers is a hard choice, but do the benefits outweigh the risks? As stated
above, Cystic Fibrosis can lead to early death, around 37 years old (Hulslander 2017), so if death is
the impending result, shouldn t every possible measure be examined, if not explored?
One side to this issue is the use of viral vectors in gene therapy to cure the underlying disease. One of
the first viral vectors used was the adenovirus vector. The adenovirus by itself is a linear double
stranded DNA molecule that causes mild respiratory infections, but when used as a vector, certain
genes and regions are removed to make it less harmful (Alton, et al. 2010). The adenovirus vector is
easy to grow, adaptable, able to infect both dividing and non dividing cells and is quick to

In a world that is often immersed in darkness, I strive to be a beacon of hope for those who are
mentally and physically suffering. As a person who views the world in an ecological standpoint, I

experience in struggling with the fallout of my parents divorce, living in unfavorable conditions, and
providing consolation to my family members terrors of abuse has shaped me into a resilient and
perceptive individual. When I was six, my mother filed for divorce due to domestic violence that
resulted in my father leaving California. He refused to pay child support, bringing my family of five
into poverty. Having had few resources for an extended period of time, I began to feel powerless and
shameful for not being able to fix the situation. Thankfully, a family friend referred my mother to
Laura s House, a non profit organization that helps people who suffer from domestic violence. The
organization provided us with emotional support, adequate meals, financial and legal aid. Because of
their selfless efforts we were able to have a sustainable life again. I continue to feel blessed for the

Traditional Garments of Ancient Civilizations Still Worn...
Asia Saree / Sari The sari (or saree ) is a cloth with a length ranging from five to more than nine yards
that is tied and folded loosely around a woman s body to create it in a form of a dress. The sari is
weaved primarily made from cotton threads, but other variations, such as linen and silk and recently,
polyester, have also been used to create the fabric needed for this popular dress among the Indians
(Kamat, 2012). The sari is reported to be 5,000 years old, originating from the Indus Valley
civilization, dated between 2800 1800 B. C. It is said to have evolved from the word Sattika or Sadi
(Prakrit), which simply means, strip of cloth. Further, tracing the history of the sari, it was construed
that the sari actually originated from the male dress dhoti, which is the male counterpart for the sari.
From the sari, an idea for a women s dress developed, and throughout the centuries, this dress became
more elaborate and developed, eventually becoming to what is known as sari today (Kumar, 2001).
One of the unique characteristics of the sari (and dhoti) is that these dresses are unstitched. Apparently
and reportedly, there is a certain sacredness to the fact that the sari is not a stitched garment (Kumar,
2001). While the sari is currently used as a functional and aesthetic dress, it initially served as a
functional dress: the cotton material used for the sari and its initial use as worn only around the waist
and over the shoulder (reportedly women use the sari

Recidivism Is The Act Of A Person
Recidivism is the act of a person repeating an undesirable behavior after they have experienced
negative consequences. Recidivism refers to a person s relapse into criminal behavior and is measured
by criminal acts that resulted in rearrest, reconviction or return to jail within a three year period
following the criminal s release. Approximately 6 in 10 released inmates are rearrested or
reincarcerated within three years of release from prison (The Bureau of Planning, Research and
Statistics, 2013). Many criminals go to jail after doing time because they find it hard to fit back in with
the normal life due to returning to high risk places and finding a job. In order to eliminate high
recidivism with the jail system, it is necessary to provide education and vocational training. Drug
addiction typically propels the criminal behavior of inmates whom recidivate soon after release. Many
prisoners report commit their offense while under the influence of drugs. Recidivism rates for drug
offenders are depressingly high (Hynes). Rapper Gucci Mane, a lean addict has been arrested many

SWAT teams, soldiers, and of tattered and gritty men, and woman taking the fight to the enemy. This
is why many retailers use props to sell their items. Camouflage is big today, and many retailers use it
to put pictures in your mind. There you are in a tactical situation covered head to toe, in tactical
camouflage, teeth barred, and the knife they want to sell you clutched in your teeth, and this of course
is the images they want you to see, so they can dip into your purse or wallet. Articles on survival and
even on prepping use the term tactical loosely, how to use a flashlight in a tactical situation,
communication in a tactical situation, noise discipline in a tactical situation and the list goes on. How
the word should be used however: How to gain a tactical advantage over the person or persons who

Essay about Chernobyl Accident of 1986
In order to understand the Chernobyl accident 1986, we must understand a little bit about the
background of the Chernobyl power complex and the surrounding area. The Chernobyl power
complex sat about 210 miles north of Kiev, Ukraine and somewhere around 32 miles south of the
Belarus border. The power complex consisted of a total of four RBMK 1000 nuclear reactors and at
the time of the accident two more reactors where being built nearby. Reactors one and two were built
between 1970 and 1977. The third and fourth reactors were built in 1983. The plant also consisted of a
man made lake that covered some 35 square miles that was built to supply cooling water to the
reactors. The area around the power complex is described as woodland ... Show more content on

(World Nuclear 2014) Now that we have a basic understanding of how the reactor works we can
further being to understand and track how the accident happen. There were a few factors that cause the
Chernobyl accident. One being that the operators of the power plant took a couple of missteps leaving
one to assume that they were poorly trained in essence to the sequence of events to follow. On 25
April 1986 operators of the plant were planning to test the new voltage regulators. The new regulator
were design to regulate power to test just how long the turbines would spin and supply power during a
loss of power from the main electrical power source. It was suppose to be a part of the routine testing,
but on this day it would turn out to be nothing close to normal routine testing. They attempted this test
the year earlier but the power from the turbine was drained to quickly therefore they need to test the
new regulators. The operators of the plant took some of actions to include disenabling the automatic
shutdown mechanisms before they attempted the test on 26 April. The day of the testing a
distinctiveness in the design of the control rods caused a huge surge in power as they were entered
into the reactor. By the time the operator moved to shut down the reactor it was too late. The reactor
had become extremely unstable. The combination of hot fuel and cooling waters led to

Todd Willingham s Conviction Process
Todd Willingham s Conviction Process One day Cameron Todd Willingham woke up to his house on
fire and was lucky enough to escape, but sadly his three children were left behind and did not survive.
After the horrific incident, Willingham was prosecuted and received the death sentence for starting a
fire with the intention to kill his children. Before the prosecution, an investigation developed that
involved professionals and eyewitness testimonies that concluded Willingham as guilty.
Unfortunately, there were many flaws during the process of the investigation. The investigation had
weak evidence with no scientific background, some prosecutors appeared bias, and the prosecution
relied too much on eyewitness. The criminal justice system had many flaws when it came down to
Willinghams prosecution and I blame the people involved in the system. After the tragic fire, two fire
investigators arrived at the scene to determine what caused the blaze. The investigation was
considered very professional, since they did have the right kind of professionals and experts at the
moment. One of the investigators was named Douglas Fogg, he was at the time considered as an arson
investigator, due to his twenty year experience. Although, one thing I knew that was a little suspicious
was the way he investigated the fire and according to Fogg, You learn that fire talks to you (Grann,
para 12). Since Fogg has had a long experience, he believed that, that is enough skill or education to

Character Development In James Baldwin s Another Country
Character Development in Another Country In James Baldwin s greatest success, three parts of the
book make up one story of the life and death of a young man. Being a homosexual, African American
jazz drummer, he struggles to find the right path to take him to happiness and sanctuary. The complex
characters within the novel struggle to love in the middle of a time of racism, sexism, and
homophobia. The character who is seen struggling the most with this is the protagonist, Rufus Scott
from Harlem, New York. After a series of episodes and digression patterns, Rufus then finds himself
to the point of suicide, jumping off the George Washington Bridge, yet it is not the end of the story.
James Baldwin portrays Rufus Scott as a heroic figure because his suicide, itself, leads to justice in his
community. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the center of Baldwin s new political emphasis is his brief but powerful characterization of Rufus

quote, Rufus obviously impacts the lives of the other characters. It is seen in that Vivaldo and Ida

relationship, they construct a strong couple and fight the rejection off. Eric becomes stronger as a
person when he realizes that Rufus is no longer there for him. Rufus puts him through so much and
Eric builds off of it to help him in the after math of Rufus death. Rufus was basically all of their

Social, Social And Economic Impacts Of The American...
There was no Reign of Terror as in the French Revolution, there was no replacement of the ruling
class by workers groups as in revolutionary Russia, so how then could the American Revolution be
described as revolutionary? The word revolution means an overthrown of a government or social order
in favor of a new system; a radical change of an entire system, usually by war, resulting in a change of
the way of life of the people involved. In 1775 the American colonies had chosen to separate
themselves from Great Britain, which resulted in a war for independence with Great Britain from 1775
to 1783. The American Revolution resulted in a fundamental change in American politics, society, and
economics and brought about concepts of the Enlightenment and changes in the lives of the colonists
and in the years to come, including rule of law, liberty, equality, and a government of the people. The
American Revolution gave rise to democracy, it gave birth to ideas about voting rights for more
people, and it raised debates about the roles of women and slaves.
True, only some fundamental changes were felt immediately while other changes, such as slavery and
women s rights, were not be abolished or recognized for several decades later. Nonetheless, the
Revolution brought about political, social, and economical changes. While they may not have been all
at once in a given day, over time (months, years, decades, and even centuries), these changes took
place.

With China, Zimbabwe would never walk alone claimed Emerson Mnangagwa, speaker of the
Zimbabwe parliament (qtd in Obiorah 39). Nonetheless, several experts have condemned the Chinese
government for fueling the ongoing conflicts in Zimbabwe and for helping the authoritarian
government in its repression of any opposition. China has been heavily criticized for shipping
armament to Zimbabwe that would ultimately distributed to the military and the militia that would
help keep the opposition down during the 2008 elections. Although China adopts its non interference
stance, such types of trades are ultimately affecting the country. The delivery of those arms coincided
with a time of extreme hostilities in the country and many pointed fingers at the Chinese government
for blatant human rights violations (Spiegel and Le Billon 324, 330).
South Africa, unlike Zimbabwe, has a more mature and solid political system. Therefore, China has
been more prudent in its relation with that country (Taylor 22). In the past, South African leaders were
highly critical of the Chinese style communism and Maoism which was spreading in South Africa
calling for a total rejection of the country. However, China still got involved in the conflicts in Pretoria

Comparing Macbeth And Great Expectations
There are more than enough examples from Macbeth and Great Expectations to prove that subversion
of gender roles, a term that describes someone acting in a way that is not expected from those of their
said gender, is evident in both writing pieces. There are a number of connections between the women
of the play and novel; this can be seen in their stern, powerful and leader like and always changing
personalities that a number of female characters share. For instance, Miss Havisham s burning hatred
for men that she implemented into Estella s mind, to Lady Macbeth s level of ambition to have her
husband become king. Others include similarities in levels of knowledge, even though they were
considered commoners on a part of the social ladder where a lack of knowledge is expected, and
examples of how they use their high levels of knowledge to their advantage. This can also be
considered evidence of subversion of gender roles; women at the time were not expected to be
knowledgeable by society as they are now. Other connections would be based on the topic of visual
appearance overall, with connections to how they portray themselves to other characters and the
reader throughout. The women of these two works show an exceptionable amount of power, control
and capability of holding a family together a number of times throughout the novel and the play. A
leading factor in this is their personalities they spoke their mind, and were not afraid of the
consequences. which happen to be

Introduction
Epilepsy is one of the most common and well known serious neurological condition. The current
treatment of epilepsy is done with modern AEDs which is associated with side effects , dose related
and chronic toxicity, and even, approximately 30% of the patients continue to have seizures with these
current therapies and medicines. Because of this , natural products obtained from traditional remedies
can be considered as an alternative source for the AEDs with novel structures and shows better safety
and efficacy parameters. It is assumed that more than half of the medicinally active pharmaceutical
drugs are from natural products or either derivatives of natural products. The presently available AEDs
(Antiepileptic drugs )i.e., phenobarbitone, benzodiazepine, sodium valproate and ethosuximide are
associated with a number of short comings, dose related neurotoxicity and other side effects. Though
AED therapy is meant for a long duration usage , because of this , there is a risk of drug interactions
and this problem is further compounded by the high protein bindings for some drugs and potential for
inducing hepatic enzymes. These limitations with the conventional AEDs highlighted the need for
developing newer agents for epilepsies.
Spaheranthus indicus Linn. is commonly known as Mundi and East Indian globe thistle , belongs to
the family Asteraceae (Compositae). It

The U.s. Pharmaceutical Industry
The U.S. pharmaceutical industry is continuously growing and profiting. How these industries profit
and grow in the current status of the American business is caused by various factors such as demand
of the citizens, change in marketing and competition. To understand how the factors added to the
increase in profit and growth of the pharmaceutical industries, we need to know how it was founded
and industrialized.
In an article written by Robin Walsh for Pharmaphorum the history of pharmaceutical industries can
be seen as a multi stage development. One of it is the root of the pharmaceutical industry lying back
with apothecaries and pharmacies that offers traditional remedies as far back as the Middle Ages.
The spread of rationalism and experimentation is a scientific revolution that occurred in the 17th

Truman Show Equality
The Truman show is an American science fiction film produced in 1998, directed by Peter Weir, and
starring Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank, who is unknowingly starring in a produced by a man known
as Christof, who is played by Ed Harris. The movie aims a satirical barb at the rapidly expanding
influence of the media, and this is apparent through the relationship between Christof and Truman, and
how the media, if unchecked, could remove the very notion of privacy, and render it a long forgotten
moral value. Christof was in no way right to prevent Truman entering the real world, as it was wrong
to deny Truman his freedom, it was selfish and morally unjust to put Truman s own feelings, rights
and happiness second to his show s successfulness, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are numerous examples of this throughout the film, however an explicit and rather symbolic one
was nearing the end of the movie, when Truman had finally conquered his fears, and reached the end
of the world. It is at this point that Christof projects his voice to Truman from above the clouds, where
the spiritual residence of a God, or indeed Gods are symbolized to be. This might well have been done
to add to the sense of awe that Truman undoubtedly felt upon realizing that his world was not indeed
the real world but rather, an artificially created one, and one that had been designed by the man that
was now talking to him, the man that even as he first directly speaks to Truman, takes the mantle and
position of God. By doing so, Christof may have attempted to exert a subliminal form of influence
over Truman, in order to better persuade him. His very first words to Truman, in response to Truman s
question about his identity, further reinforces this notion: I am the creator of a television show that
gives hope and joy and inspiration to

Research Paper On St. Aquinas
This semester has felt as being in a roller coaster, despite of some of the theories having similarities,
one cannot said that one theory is the same to another. For the reason, I personality felt as every time
that there was a new theory introduced, I tried to see how it applied to my life. As the different
theories were presented in our Ethical Theory class, the theory that stood out and reignited the most is
St. Thomas Aquinas of the personalist /natural law ethics. St. Thomas Aquinas natural laws theory

pertaining to reason. (Aquinas, p.3) This was a key point that was a development from what St.
Aquinas had understood from Aristotle that not mattering what the issues were there had to be law that
had to refer to reason, as characteristic human function. Also, there are some essential to a law that St.
Aquinas recognized which are an ordinance of reason, directed to the common good, made by one
who has care of the community, and promulgated. Furthermore, the characteristic human function,

Rhetorical Techniques In Billy Joel s The Nylon Curtain
While the term authored is traditionally applied to literary works, the term can be used in a broader
sense to refer to any piece which employs rhetorical devices in order to serve a specific purpose or put
forth a specific message. In terms of an audio album, the cover artwork is the first part a listener is
exposed to and can be expected to pique that person s curiosity so that they are led to learn more about
or buy the album. The artwork created by Christopher Austopchuk for Billy Joel s album The Nylon
Curtain exemplifies this concept of authoring as the scene he uses both draws one s interest when first

The title brings to mind the historical scene in which the album was released due to the relation to the
figurative Iron Curtain which divided Europe at the time. With the Cold War continuing and the recent

at the time. This reference to the conflict at the time further appeals to the sympathies of the audience,
with many opposing the war efforts which were ongoing for decades. Because of this, they would

Child Development Explanations And Understanding
Child development explanations and understanding is a complicated process and it is hard deciding
the right process to use with each child. Many individuals and doctors have their own way of thinking
how the body and mind develops. Their ideas have no right or wrong answers and are mere guesses of
human growth. No one idea can be applied directly to a person, without looking at another idea also.
To prove these explanations of psychology, scientific methods are used. Teachers may use all patterns
of ideas in their lesson planning for children.
Teachers choose what ideas to apply in the classroom by what is best proven, and what is in the best
interest of the child. They must also look at what has been effective in their teaching in the past. If the
idea does not work, then it should be removed from the class, replaced or changed. Each idea has their
strong points as well as their weak ones. To avoid the extreme differences in psychology opinions of
the ideas you must use the common methods offered. It is hard for teachers to apply one idea to
different children, this is due to the fact that none of use grow up the exact same way. For children to
have the chance of becoming who and what they want, we must not put all of them in the same box,
this is to keep choice free in life. To summarize it definitely helps when you understand the great
philosophers and their processes.

Increasing the security of the borders in The United States became top priority following the terrorist
attacks of September 11, 2001. In 2002, 22 federal agencies were united to form The Department of
Homeland Security to oversee the security of the country within and outside its borders.
US Custom Border Protection (CBP) is an agency/department of The Department of Homeland
Security that perform inspections in border and ports of entry. CBP officers and agents welcome all
legitimate travelers and trade while preventing the entry of terrorists and their weapons. CBP law
enforcement professionals enforce U.S. law, stopping narcotics, agricultural pests and smuggled goods
from entering the country. They also identify and arrest travelers ... Show more content on

Benner said. It was the first time cocaine had been seized in connection with a tunnel operation, the
authorities said. (By Liam Dillon and Ian Lovett Published: October 31, 2013)
It is clear why the breach of security on the southern border is of concern to both governments as well
as to citizens of US and Mexico. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is working to secure
the border by ensuring that an effective combination of staffing, technology, and infrastructure is
utilized to protect the more than 8,000 miles of land and maritime areas along both the northern and
southern borders, however the current system in place needs urgent changes in order to secure the
borders and move forward to target all illicit activities that take place on the border. The next step will
be redirect the attention and work on the effects that it brings to citizens of the countries involved. It is
easy to think only on the effects that it brings to United States but also for Mexico it has a negative
impact. It is often assumed that illegal immigrants are all Mexican citizens crossing the border
however this statement is not a fact. Mexico is being used as a bridge by illegal immigration
immigrating to United States from neighbor countries such as Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador,
Costa Rica, and Peru. The federal government, the DHS and agencies involved in securing our borders
need to create a comprehensive plan to guarantee the DHS gains

Gracile Features
Introduction
The more gracile features that denote a female typically include the smaller size or often nonexistence
of certain features found on the skeleton including but not limited to the nuchal crest, mastoid process,
and brow ridges. Also, the average height of a female is shorter than that of the average male. Due to
this difference in skeletal structure, most of the bones in the female skeleton should in some form be
sexually dimorphic. The trend of smaller features is of course excluding the pelvic girdle, on which
most female features are larger and rounder due to the skeletal requirements of childbirth. Given the
above statement, it is reasonable to predict that there would be a distinguishable difference between
the metacarpal of a male and a female. Studies have proved that metacarpals are sexually dimorphic,
and can be used to identify the sex of a skeleton in both Egyptian and Tai populations. Due to these
past studies, it is logical to assume that the same sexually dimorphism can be found in the European
population. If successful this study could develop an algorism to help determine the sex from just a
single bone. This advancement in our knowledge of sex identification could propel cases, in which the
sex of the induvial was undeterminable from the bones recovered.

The measurements include the width, length, diameter, and height of all the metacarpals, giving
adequate data to the size of the hand, and joint sizes. Using the data collected from the metacarpals a
formula should prove that White Females have distinctly smaller measurement than that of White
Males. The difference in measurement is due to the more gracile features of females who need less
robust metacarpals because less space for muscle attachment is

Capgras Syndrome Research Paper Capgras Syndrome, also known as Capgras Delusion, is a neuropsychological condition or illogical belief in which an individual holds a belief that a familiar person or place such as a friend, spouse, family member or even pets, have been replaced with an exact duplicate. In 1923, Joseph Capgras, a French psychiatrist, had discovered this delusion and have seen that this disorder is associated with people who have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder and often people who have a brain injury or disease (Bier). Capgras syndrome is usually followed after brain damage such as a stroke, drug overdose, and many other causes typically on the right side of the brain. It s the lost of connection between the visual face recognition area in the right temporal lobe and the areas of the brain that provides the emotional response to the face. Capgras syndrome is often times confused with prosopagnosia, an impairment in the recognition of faces, this however, is not the same thing. Capgras syndrome would be classified into syndromes like Bipolar disorders and other delusions. As of right now, there is no prescribed treatment available for the Capgras syndrome. In other words, technology and social media work together to link the world. Other than connecting people, social media can also be used for advertising. Today, about all businesses market their products through advertisements. If not for the advertisements, nearly every businesses would not be able to sell their latest products. People learn about their country or other countries in the world through news, which are given through social media like YouTube channel. They also can learn about new products or weather conditions in their areas; they are able now to learn about everything that is happening either where they live or in other places. Social media are sources of publicity of new products; they help people stay informed about everything. Just as they have advantages, social media also have disadvantages such as being addictive. • 7. Essay on The Glaciers of Yosemite National Park The Glaciers of Yosemite National Park One of nature s most powerful and influential forces is also one of nature s coldest and slowest processes. These great icy rivers are called glaciers and have formed some of the most beautiful scenery on this planet. These enormous frozen bodies of water are often thousands of feet wide and deep and many miles long. They cover millions of acres of land and drastically change the land into beautiful mountains with many amazing features. One of the areas where glaciers have been most influential is in Yosemite National Park in California. Here almost every glacial feature is shown. (Muir, 1880, P. 557) A glacier occurs when the climate of an area is so cold that new snow does not completely melt each summer and more snow is added in the winter. After many winters the accumulation of this snow becomes compact and re crystallizes, thus forming a glacier. Currently, glaciers cover about ten percent of the Earth s surface. Yet, in the past, glaciers covered much more land and were thousands of meters thick. (Tierney) Glaciers take part in two of the Earth s cycles hydrology and the rock cycle. When precipitation falls at high attitudes where glaciers exist, the rain or snow becomes a part of the glacier and may be stored in the glacier for up to thousands of years. Glaciers move very slow but are very important in erosion of rocks. (Lutgens Tarbuck) There are different types of glaciers that exist. Valley or alpine glaciers exist in mountain valleys. They occupy the space where a stream once was and become a glacial stream flowing down the valley. Ice sheets are a very different type of glacier. They are much larger and are at times referred to as continental ice sheets. They flow in all directions and cover the land they are on. An ice cap is another kind of glacier that covers the uplands and plateaus. They cover the surface they are on totally, but are smaller than ice sheets. The final type of glacier is a piedmont glacier. These cover the land at the bases of mountains and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Shrek Research Papers DreamWorks Animation has released over 30 animated films since 1998. Among their highest grossing films are the Shrek franchise, Madagascar 3, and Kung Fu Panda 2. For this analysis I shall be looking at Shrek 2 and Kung Fu Panda 2, and examining what may make these movies a bit unsuccessful despite their success. Shrek 2 is DreamWorks highest grossing film at $919.8 million worldwide, topping its first film Shrek. This film may be the highest grossing film but what about it may have fallen short? I found the opening of the movie using a storybook to not be as successful as its usage in the first Shrek. The issue of using the storybook may have stemmed from how they transitioned to the actually movie, having the 2D storybook picture of Prince Charming suddenly change into the 3D model was a bit jarring and could have been done better. Using a different way to deliver the opening monologue, or even changing the dialogue so it didn t have to be read as if it were a storybook could have fixed this issue. The 2D animation works better with the 2D in my opinion, while I feel like the cutout animation is out of place. If they wanted to have the opening in a different style I would suggest sticking with only 2 styles of animation in the movie. • 9. Groundwater Contamination Research Paper When there is an addition of undesired substances from human activities in the groundwater, it can cause groundwater contamination. There are many industrial operations that cause contamination in ground water, due to the large quantities of chemicals used. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, which are used in cleaning products and solutions containing chromium, which are used in metal plating, lead to the groundwater contamination. These industrial wastes are dumped in storage tanks and they leak, thus causing contamination. There is greater awareness of the issues and hazards of the dumping of chemical waste and there are laws restricting the dumping of this waste. Since many individuals rely on groundwater for drinking water, many of them are drinking contaminated water. Due to this, there are many health risks including, hepatitis, poisoning and cancer when exposed to polluted water. As well, the wildlife can be harmed from the contaminated ground water. A good disposal method of ground waste consists of a chemical treatment that is able to convert the hazardous waste into environmentally safe materials. Estrogen Receptors Essay Estrogen receptors: Estrogens act via two types of receptors (ERα and ERβ), which are members of a large super family of proteins that function as ligand activated transcription factors (Katzenellenbogen and Katzenellenbogen, 1996). Both receptors have direct differentiative influences on reproductive organs and have similar binding affinity to estradiol (Kuiper et al., 1997; Drummond et al., 1999). Although, there are significant amino acid differences in the regions of these receptors that would be expected to influence transcriptional activity (Hall and McDonnell, 1999). Examples Of Direct Characterization In Lamb To The Slaughter In the short story Lamb to the Slaughter, written by Roald Dahl, Dahl uses direct and indirect characterization to give us both realistic and improbable portrayals of characters, In addition to showing us the values and perspective of the characters. In this short story the author states, This was her sixth month expecting a child. (Dahl, 1). Direct characterization is when the author directly provides information on the personality or background on the character instead of indirectly revealing it through actions and speech. This quote obviously utilizes direct characterization by describing background information on Mary Maloney. Additionally, the fact that it was her sixth month expecting a child is direct characterization because we did not have to assume it through actions and speech, the author directly mentioned it in the first page. Not only does Dahl use direct characterization, but also indirect characterization. In the story the author states, It s probably right under our noses. What do you think Jack? And in the other room Mary Maloney began to laugh. (Dahl 4). Indirect characterization is when the author reveals background and the personality of the character through thoughts and actions. • 13. Prufrock T.S. Eliot s poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock examines a single character, Prufrock, who has been influenced by three very different modes of thinking: Romanticism, Realism, and Modernism. These influences cause inner conflict within the character that he struggles to overcome throughout the course of the poem. Eliot s Prufrock is both psychologically and socially crippled because he embodies both Romantic and Realist ideals, i.e. the heroism of the individual and the awareness of insurmountable, objective realities, respectively, while possessing the self conscious mind of a man influenced by a culture of Modernism. Robert Cook, in his analysis, titled Emerson s Self Reliance, Sweeney, and Prufrock, of Ralph Emerson s self reliant man, the epitome of a Romantic, and T.S. Eliot s Prufrock, draws a number of distinctions between the two writers. He holds that Prufrock is Eliot s more realistic response to Emerson s idealistic man. Ron Banerjee examines the epigraph of the poem, which is a verse from Dante s Divine Comedy, and, among other things, discovers how it illuminates the unchangeable reality of the world around Prufrock. Romanticism heralds the heroism and nonconformity of the noble individual. The desire to be great and known is innate to all men, including Prufrock; however, Prufrock s crippling self consciousness disables him from breaking away from society as the true Romantic man would strive to do. • 15. Cystic Fibrosis Can viruses used as vectors in the process of gene therapy be an effective treatment for Cystic Fibrosis? Firstly, Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic and recessive disease that mostly affects the lungs and pancreas. This leads to phlegm accumulation, salty sweat, male infertility, shortness of breath and increased risk of infection, which all contribute to premature death (CFF, 2017). Since it is recessive, you need two copies of the gene to manifest the disease, but 1/30 Americans have at least one copy of the gene, so it is easily passed on (Hulslander 2017). To treat this disease, some scientists believe a viral vector can be used in gene therapy while others say using a virus is too risky and suggest a non viral approach, such as liposomes ... Gene therapy is the insertion of a normal gene into deficient cells using an appropriate vector (Hart, et al. 2006). However, it does have potential risks, leading to the argument of if they should be used or not, and if used, is a viral or non viral approach better. It becomes complicated since many symptoms of these diseases begin in early childhood, and deciding whether or not to subject a child to these possible dangers is a hard choice, but do the benefits outweigh the risks? As stated above, Cystic Fibrosis can lead to early death, around 37 years old (Hulslander 2017), so if death is the impending result, shouldn t every possible measure be examined, if not explored? One side to this issue is the use of viral vectors in gene therapy to cure the underlying disease. One of the first viral vectors used was the adenovirus vector. The adenovirus by itself is a linear double stranded DNA molecule that causes mild respiratory infections, but when used as a vector, certain genes and regions are removed to make it less harmful (Alton, et al. 2010). The sari is weaved primarily made from cotton threads, but other variations, such as linen and silk and recently, polyester, have also been used to create the fabric needed for this popular dress among the Indians (Kamat, 2012). The sari is reported to be 5,000 years old, originating from the Indus Valley civilization, dated between 2800 1800 B. C. It is said to have evolved from the word Sattika or Sadi (Prakrit), which simply means, strip of cloth. From the sari, an idea for a women s dress developed, and throughout the centuries, this dress became more elaborate and developed, eventually becoming to what is known as sari today (Kumar, 2001). One of the unique characteristics of the sari (and dhoti) is that these dresses are unstitched. Comparing Macbeth And Great Expectations There are more than enough examples from Macbeth and Great Expectations to prove that subversion of gender roles, a term that describes someone acting in a way that is not expected from those of their said gender, is evident in both writing pieces. There are a number of connections between the women of the play and novel; this can be seen in their stern, powerful and leader like and always changing personalities that a number of female characters share. For instance, Miss Havisham s burning hatred for men that she implemented into Estella s mind, to Lady Macbeth s level of ambition to have her husband become king. Others include similarities in levels of knowledge, even though they were considered commoners on a part of the social ladder where a lack of knowledge is expected, and examples of how they use their high levels of knowledge to their advantage. This can also be considered evidence of subversion of gender roles; women at the time were not expected to be knowledgeable by society as they are now. Other connections would be based on the topic of visual appearance overall, with connections to how they portray themselves to other characters and the reader throughout. The women of these two works show an exceptionable amount of power, control and capability of holding a family together a number of times throughout the novel and the play. A leading factor in this is their personalities they spoke their mind, and were not afraid of the consequences. which happen to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Epilepsy is one of the most common and well known serious neurological condition. The current treatment of epilepsy is done with modern AEDs which is associated with side effects , dose related and chronic toxicity, and even, approximately 30% of the patients continue to have seizures with these current therapies and medicines. Because of this , natural products obtained from traditional remedies can be considered as an alternative source for the AEDs with novel structures and shows better safety and efficacy parameters. It is assumed that more than half of the medicinally active pharmaceutical drugs are from natural products or either derivatives of natural products. The presently available AEDs (Antiepileptic drugs )i.e., phenobarbitone, benzodiazepine, sodium valproate and ethosuximide are associated with a number of short comings, dose related neurotoxicity and other side effects. Though AED therapy is meant for a long duration usage , because of this , there is a risk of drug interactions and this problem is further compounded by the high protein bindings for some drugs and potential for inducing hepatic enzymes. These limitations with the conventional AEDs highlighted the need for developing newer agents for epilepsies. Truman Show Equality The Truman show is an American science fiction film produced in 1998, directed by Peter Weir, and starring Jim Carrey as Truman Burbank, who is unknowingly starring in a produced by a man known as Christof, who is played by Ed Harris. The movie aims a satirical barb at the rapidly expanding influence of the media, and this is apparent through the relationship between Christof and Truman, and how the media, if unchecked, could remove the very notion of privacy, and render it a long forgotten moral value. Christof was in no way right to prevent Truman entering the real world, as it was wrong to deny Truman his freedom, it was selfish and morally unjust to put Truman s own feelings, rights and happiness second to his show s successfulness, and ... There are numerous examples of this throughout the film, however an explicit and rather symbolic one was nearing the end of the movie, when Truman had finally conquered his fears, and reached the end of the world. It is at this point that Christof projects his voice to Truman from above the clouds, where the spiritual residence of a God, or indeed Gods are symbolized to be. This might well have been done to add to the sense of awe that Truman undoubtedly felt upon realizing that his world was not indeed the real world but rather, an artificially created one, and one that had been designed by the man that was now talking to him, the man that even as he first directly speaks to Truman, takes the mantle and position of God. By doing so, Christof may have attempted to exert a subliminal form of influence over Truman, in order to better persuade him. His very first words to Truman, in response to Truman s question about his identity, further reinforces this notion: I am the creator of a television show that gives hope and joy and inspiration to ... Rhetorical Techniques In Billy Joel s The Nylon Curtain While the term authored is traditionally applied to literary works, the term can be used in a broader sense to refer to any piece which employs rhetorical devices in order to serve a specific purpose or put forth a specific message. This reference to the conflict at the time further appeals to the sympathies of the audience, with many opposing the war efforts which were ongoing for decades. Many individuals and doctors have their own way of thinking how the body and mind develops. Their ideas have no right or wrong answers and are mere guesses of human growth. No one idea can be applied directly to a person, without looking at another idea also. To prove these explanations of psychology, scientific methods are used. Teachers may use all patterns of ideas in their lesson planning for children. Teachers choose what ideas to apply in the classroom by what is best proven, and what is in the best interest of the child. They must also look at what has been effective in their teaching in the past. If the idea does not work, then it should be removed from the class, replaced or changed. Each idea has their strong points as well as their weak ones. To avoid the extreme differences in psychology opinions of the ideas you must use the common methods offered. It is hard for teachers to apply one idea to different children, this is due to the fact that none of use grow up the exact same way. For children to have the chance of becoming who and what they want, we must not put all of them in the same box, this is to keep choice free in life. Gracile Features Introduction The more gracile features that denote a female typically include the smaller size or often nonexistence of certain features found on the skeleton including but not limited to the nuchal crest, mastoid process, and brow ridges. Also, the average height of a female is shorter than that of the average male. Due to this difference in skeletal structure, most of the bones in the female skeleton should in some form be sexually dimorphic. The trend of smaller features is of course excluding the pelvic girdle, on which most female features are larger and rounder due to the skeletal requirements of childbirth. Given the above statement, it is reasonable to predict that there would be a distinguishable difference between the metacarpal of a male and a female. Studies have proved that metacarpals are sexually dimorphic, and can be used to identify the sex of a skeleton in both Egyptian and Tai populations. Due to these past studies, it is logical to assume that the same sexually dimorphism can be found in the European population.
