Printed Circuit Board(PCB)
A Printed Circuit Board is an
electronic circuit used in devices
to provide mechanical support
and pathway to its electronic
components.
Conducting pathways etched or printed onto board,
connect different components on the PCB such as
transistors, resistors and Integrated Chips.
PCBs are currently made using Fire Resistant
Plastics(FRPs). FRPs are typically made using glass
fibres and epoxy which are non-biodegradable when
exposed to the environment
Biodegradable PCBs
Biodegradable Printed Circuit Boards are
PCBs which are developed
using biocomposites made
from natural cellulose which
are normally considered as
agricultural wastes or
co-products.
Research
Completely Biodegradable PCBs have been developed using
banana stems and wheat gluten which are normally considered
as agricultural wastes.
PCBs have been fabricated on these biocomposites, and the
performance of the PCB including dielectric properties,
electrical performance, and fire resistance has been studied.
These composites do not contain any chemicals and will
completely degrade when disposed in the environment.
Bio-PCBs over PCBs
PCBs are an integral part of
electronic gadgets and since
the use of these gadgets will
only increase, so will the
environmental problems
like accumulation of
e-waste.
Natural fibres and protein-based
PCBs provide the perfect
alternative to the synthetic
polymer-based electronic
components and help us to
reduce the environmental
burden due to the disposal of electronic waste (e-waste).
New idea to implement
Conducting polymers is new alternative for
traditional electrical
This conducting paint can used in the fabrication
of Biodegradable PCB in order to provide
mechanical support and pathway to its
electronic components and replacing FRPs.
Introducing this into PCB would not only widens
the scope the materials to be used but also
reduce the most of the e Waste around us.
For example:
The plant in your window is the new switches
for the room. Door bell is the flower at the
entry.
Industries would dramatically change the way of
functioning.
Banayan tree in the park is new data storage of
some companies.
May be this attempt of changing the electronic
world fails, but change is important. Afterall our
attempt was to explore the information and try
to think something different.
Thank you !
