Emotions And Moods - Organizational Behavior - PsychologyFaHaD .H. NooR
Introduces us the the concepts of emotions and moods and their effects on Organizational Behavior. These are concepts that have only recently received increased attention in research and practice. As mentioned, emotions and moods were dismissed by OB for a long time. One of the primary reasons was the “Myth of Rationality” that suggested that OB comprised rational concepts and applications and emotions and moods were seen as highly irrational. Emotions were thought to be disruptive of organizational activity and decreased productivity. Because they were perceived as irrational the belief was that they were unpredictable and therefore not easily influenced. We now know this is untrue.Affect is a generic term that covers a broad range of feelings people experience. This includes both emotions and moods. Emotions are intense feelings that are directed at someone or something. Moods are the feelings that tend to be less intense than emotions and that lack a contextual stimulus.
Indian models of leadership presentation by Prof. Neeraj AgrawalNeeraj Agrawal
These days ‘leadership’ is the in thing– everybody wants to be a leader.
Interestingly, a few years ago, ‘manager’ was the role people aspired to and the top team was called the ‘management team’ of the organisation.
Before that, ‘administrator’was the aspired role – think about it – MBA is the short form for Masters in Business Administration; IAS is an acronym for Indian Administrative Service.
‘Leader’ is a role that an individual plays.
Leading is what people do when they are in the leader’s role.
Leadership includes the context that make any organisation –
Relationships
Culture,
Systems,
Structures,
Processes
It means that leader development is not the same as leadership development,
but most programmes deal with leader development without a focus on developing systems, structures, culture, and processes in the organisation.
personality traits are "enduring patterns of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and oneself that are exhibited in a wide range of social and personal contexts." A trait is what we call a characteristic way in which an individual perceives, feels, believes, or acts.
Trait theories are the following
Three trait theory
16 personality factor theory
Universal trait theory
Big five model
HEXACO model
Attributions are inferences that people make about the causes of events and behavior. People make attributions in order to understand their experiences. Attributions strongly influence the way people interact with others.
The “Dark Triad” was coined in 2002 by Paulhus and Williams which refer to personality traits that make people magnets for conflict and disagreement.
These are negative qualities because they destroy relationships and compromise overall well-being.
These people can be helped by boosting their strengths and play down their weaknesses.
They have host of undesirable behaviors including
Aggressiveness,
Sexual opportunism, and
Impulsivity
The technical definition of the Dark Triad( Jonason and Webster’s article) is rather daunting: “the Dark Triad as a whole can be thought of as a short-term, agentic, exploitative social strategy...” (p. 420).
People who show these qualities are trying to get away with acting out against others in order to achieve their own ends.

3. O.C.E.A.N Analysis
The concept of the "Big Five" personality traits is taken from psychology and includes five broad
domains that describe personality. These five personality traits are used to understand the
relationship between personality and various behaviors. These five factors are assumed to
represent the basic structure behind all personality traits. These five factors were defined and
described by several different researchers during multiple periods of research.
The FIVE Traits are:
Openness
Conscientiousness
Extraversion
Agreeableness
Neuroticism
Commonly these Five traits are referred to as “O.C.E.A.N.”, taking the first letters from each of the
traits.
4. What Factors Influence the
Big Five Traits?
Research suggests that both biological and environmental
influences play a role in shaping our personalities. Both nature
and nurture play a role in the development of each of the five
personality factors.
Studies have shown that maturation may have an impact on
the five traits. As people age, they tend to become less
extraverted, less neurotic, and less open to experience.
Agreeableness and conscientiousness, on the other hand, tend
to increase as people grow older.
