Creating a Next-Generation Big Data ArchitecturePerficient, Inc.
If you’ve spent time investigating Big Data, you quickly realize that the issues surrounding Big Data are often complex to analyze and solve. The sheer volume, velocity and variety changes the way we think about data – including how enterprises approach data architecture.
Significant reduction in costs for processing, managing, and storing data, combined with the need for business agility and analytics, requires CIOs and enterprise architects to rethink their enterprise data architecture and develop a next-generation approach to solve the complexities of Big Data.
Creating the data architecture while integrating Big Data into the heart of the enterprise data architecture is a challenge. This webinar covered:
-Why Big Data capabilities must be strategically integrated into an enterprise’s data architecture
-How a next-generation architecture can be conceptualized
-The key components to a robust next generation architecture
-How to incrementally transition to a next generation data architecture
The Pivotal Business Data Lake provides a flexible blueprint to meet your business's future information and analytics needs while avoiding the pitfalls of typical EDW implementations. Pivotal’s products will help you overcome challenges like reconciling corporate and local needs, providing real-time access to all types of data, integrating data from multiple sources and in multiple formats, and supporting ad hoc analysis.
This presentation will help you understand the basic building blocks of Business Intelligence. Learn how decisions are triggered, the complete decision process and who makes decisions in the corporate world.
More importantly, understand core components of a Business Intelligence architecture such as a data warehouse, data mining, OLAP (Online analytical procession) , OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and data reporting. Each component plays an integral part which enables today's managers and decision makers collect, analyze and interpret data to make it actionable for decision making.
Business intelligence has become an integral part that needs to be incorporated to ensure business survival. It is a tool that helps analyze historical data and forecast future so that your are always one step ahead in your business.

Big Data, Internet of Things, Data Lakes, Streaming Analytics, Machine Learning… these are just a few of the buzzwords being thrown around in the world of data management today. They provide us with new sources of data, new forms of analytics, and new ways of storing, managing and utilizing our data. The reality however, is that traditional Data Warehouse architectures are no longer able to handle many of these new technologies and a new data architecture is required.
So what does the new architecture look like? Does the enterprise data warehouse still have a role? Where do these new technologies fit in? How can business users easily and quickly access the various sources of data and analytic results at the right time to make the right decisions in this new world order?
Dr. Claudia Imhoff addresses these questions and presents the Extended Data Warehouse architecture (XDW), demonstrating the need for each component and how an enterprise combines these into appropriate workflows for proper decision support.
Data Lakehouse, Data Mesh, and Data Fabric (r2)James Serra
So many buzzwords of late: Data Lakehouse, Data Mesh, and Data Fabric. What do all these terms mean and how do they compare to a modern data warehouse? In this session I’ll cover all of them in detail and compare the pros and cons of each. They all may sound great in theory, but I'll dig into the concerns you need to be aware of before taking the plunge. I’ll also include use cases so you can see what approach will work best for your big data needs. And I'll discuss Microsoft version of the data mesh.

Integrating data across systems has been a perpetual challenge. Unfortunately, the current technology-focused solutions have not helped IT to improve its dismal project success statistics. Data warehouses, BI implementations, and general analytical efforts achieve the same levels of success as other IT projects – approximately 1/3rd are considered successes when measured against price, schedule, or functionality objectives. The first step is determining the appropriate analysis approach to the data system integration challenge. The second step is understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches. Turns out that proper analysis at this stage makes actual technology selection far more accurate. Only when these are accomplished can proper matching between problem and capabilities be achieved as the third step and true business value be delivered. This webinar will illustrate that good systems development more often depends on at least three data management disciplines in order to provide a solid foundation.
Takeaways:
Data system integration challenge analysis
Understanding of a range of data system-integration technologies including
Problem space (BI, Analytics, Big Data), Data (Warehousing, Vault, Cube) and alternative approaches (Virtualization, Linked Data, Portals, Meta-models)

Agile Data Warehouse Design for Big Data PresentationVishal Kumar
Synopsis:
[Video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNrTxSU5IQ0 ]
Jim Stagnitto and John DiPietro of consulting firm a2c) will discuss Agile Data Warehouse Design - a step-by-step method for data warehousing / business intelligence (DW/BI) professionals to better collect and translate business intelligence requirements into successful dimensional data warehouse designs.
The method utilizes BEAM✲ (Business Event Analysis and Modeling) - an agile approach to dimensional data modeling that can be used throughout analysis and design to improve productivity and communication between DW designers and BI stakeholders. BEAM✲ builds upon the body of mature "best practice" dimensional DW design techniques, and collects "just enough" non-technical business process information from BI stakeholders to allow the modeler to slot their business needs directly and simply into proven DW design patterns.
BEAM✲ encourages DW/BI designers to move away from the keyboard and their entity relationship modeling tools and begin "white board" modeling interactively with BI stakeholders. With the right guidance, BI stakeholders can and should model their own BI data requirements, so that they can fully understand and govern what they will be able to report on and analyze.
The BEAM✲ method is fully described in

A successful ecommerce project is a beautiful thing. It can raise revenue, reduce cost, and strengthen a brand. Unfortunately, the visibility of ecommerce and the breadth of stakeholders can amplify the usual project risks-availability of IT skills, understanding of business needs, scope control, accurate estimating, and so on. We sifted through the results (and in some cases, debris) of ecommerce projects over the last 10 years to bring you this "on the ground" view of what to do to turn the odds in your favor.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Goal of this first slide is to set the tone for BI – companies have spent a ton of money on implementing end user related systems – from customer relationship management (CRM), to ERP, to supply chain (SCM), to HR – and this has caused significant issues for IT as they try to integrate all of these systems together. Figures from the following Gartner articles: CRM: CRM Project Costs Identified and Defined, Beth Eisenfeld, April 2, 2003 ERP: Lies, Darn Lies, and Application Costs Estimates, Vinnie Merchandani, April 12, 1999 ($20,000 figure); Benchmark the Operational Cost of your SAP Applications, Derek Prior, February 3, 2004 ($16,000 figure) SSP
Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited Despite all the money spent, a recent survey by BusinessWeek found that a majority of the business users today are still going on “gut feel,” and not utilizing the data from these systems to make effective business decisions. Goal on this slide is to let the numbers speak for themselves most say they go on gut vs. hard facts only 1/5 say they have the right amount of information to make an informed business decision 3/4 say they make bad decisions because they don’t have sufficient information this is a problem given the investment made in these systems. (Note that because of rounding the pie chart adds up to 101%) SSP
Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited This is somewhat of a conclusion slide. We’ve built the case that there is an information problem, end-users are feeling it, and companies that are addressing it are successful – in this slide we start to agenda set around how Business Objects would solve this problem – and start to talk in general terms: Mass availability: leading into our reporting offerings Interactivity: our query and analysis capabilities Proactivity: setting the stage for performance management (using information to impact future direction and behavior). SSP
Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited The goal of this slide is to agenda set around the SHORTCOMINGS of other approaches – namely those by Microsoft and SAP, as well as Cognos in the “traditional BI tools” bullet. It’s important to note that the customer likely has implemented many of these solutions already with varying degrees of success, so you don’t want to insult them in terms of what they’ve already spent money on. Rather, the goal here is to point out how these approaches in the end do not help the end users get what they need in order to solve their key business problems – again, setting up the Business Objects approach and agenda by speaking in a roundabout way about the need to standardize on a strategic use of BI and a BI tool – ultimately, ours. SSP
Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited This slide hits on why you want to use BI vs. the approaches on the previous slide – we’re trying to paint a vision of what the customer environment COULD become by using Business Objects All companies will want to have these positive characteristics. SSP
Business Intelligence System 04/19/10 Accel Integration Company Limited (Remove less appropriate examples for each prospect to lighten slide) BI is not specific to any one department within the enterprise, with many applications across many functions. Here are some examples: Sales and Marketing – tracking the success of internal marketing campaigns; segmenting and profiling market members. Operations management – monitoring the movement of goods both in and out of the enterprise; identifying where delays in delivery are the cause of late payment. Finance – tracking expense by department over time, spotting anomalies. DSOs: Days’ Sales Outstanding – a measure of how efficient the organization is being at collecting payment Human resources – identifying problems in retention or absenteeism, and where there are concentrations of these problems. Manufacturing – tracking back customer complaints regarding quality to the original supplier, to address the problem fast. SSP
