WHAT IS BHAKTI ?
The term Bhakti comes from the root 'Bhaj', which means 'to be
attached to God'. Bhakti is love for love's sake.

As Gita says, four types of virtuous men worship Me, O Arjuna!
The man in distress, the man seeking knowledge, the man
seeking wealth and the man imbued with wisdom, O the best of
the Bharatas!
Caturvidha bhajante mam

jnani ca Bharatarsabha.
TYPES OF BHAKTI
Sakamya Bhakti is devotion with desire for material
gains. Nishkamya Bhakti, Your heart will be purified and
the Divine Grace will descend upon you.
NAVA-VIDHA-BHAKTI Devotion to God is developed in
nine different ways.In the Srimad-Bhagavata and the
Vishnu Purana it is told that the nine forms of Bhakti are
1.śravana – ‘listening’ to the names of the Divine;
2. kīrtana – ‘chanting’ praise songs in honour of
God
3.smnarana –‘meditation’ of God
4.pāda –sevana – ‘service at the feet’ of the Lord
5.arcana – ‘ritual devotion’
6.vandana –‘prostration’ before the image of the Lord
7.dāśya – ‘slavish devotion’ to God
8.śākhya – ‘friendship’- the divine raises the humble
devotee to the status of a friend
9.ātma – nivedana – ‘self –offering’ through which the
worshipper enters into the immortal body of God.
A devotee can practice any method of Bhakti which suits him best. Through
that he will attain Divine illumination.
FRUITS OF BHAKTI
Bhakti softens the heart and removes jealousy, hatred, lust, anger, egoism,
pride and arrogance. It infuses joy, divine ecstasy, bliss, peace and
knowledge.
