Un Chien Andalou
The Marvelous Irrational The Surrealists believed that the conscious mind repressed the power of
imagination and dreams, weakening it by norms or taboos. They utilized unusual and untraditional
techniques and phenomena to achieve subconscious creativity, eradicating the line between dream and
reality. The film Un Chien Andalou was extreme for 1929, because non traditional art was passion of
both Buñuel and Dali; therefore, they were driven to shock the common movie viewers by using
bizarre surrealistic imagery in a film that was disjointed and disturbing to the masses, because of its
purposeful bizarre symbolism and suggested eroticism. Un Chien Andalou was born of the encounter
between my dreams and Dali s. , says Luis Bunuel in his autobiography; both Luis Buñuel and
Salvador Dali are known to be artists who are considered as the creators and representatives of the
Surrealist movement, while challenging it in every work of them. The film begins with Buñuel s
dream of a woman s eye cut by a razor, and Dali s dream of ants emerging from a hole in a man s
hand, which are the most important symbols in the film. The beginning is followed with a card reading

emphasize certain realities of life that were usually hidden in the private world of a couple and not

Borders By Thomas King Analysis
As one is passionate towards their heritage they will not identify or label themselves something there
not. They will show pride and courage by showing they are willing to fight for their cultures
independency. In the story Borders by Thomas King, King illustrates the idea that one should be proud
of their heritage and to never give up. The story expresses this through the mother s pride and her
personal identity. Pride is being proud of a skill or a particular quality. In this case Laetitia s mom is
honoured to represent the Blackfoot culture. She has showed many good traits in her personality, one
being pride. As she reached the border a guard told her Now, I know that we got Blackfeet on the
American side and the Canadians got Blackfeet

Social Change in Two Novels Essay
Social Forces are the Forces of the environment that include the demographic characteristics of the
population and its values. (Richard J. Ch.3) The social forces can affect the conceptual framework of
marriage, education, social class, and politics. In the Nineteenth Century, many authors addressed
those social forces in forms of novels. Among those authors were William Makepeace Thackeray and
Thomas Hardy. This essay will compare and contrast the nature and function of society and social
forces on Thackeray s Vanity Fair and Hardy s Tess D Urberville.

Her manipulative character sparks different emotions from the Crawleys but succeeds in impressing
the wealthiest of its members, Aunt Matilda Crawley. Meanwhile, she figures that Matilda s fortune
will eventually be in the possession of her favourite nephew, Rawdon.
Thackeray examines Rebecca s character in the event of Sir Pitt s proposal while she was secretly
married to his son, Rawdon. When she refused Sir Pitt, Thackeray described her refusal in a tone of
regret as she considers Sir Pitt as a potential asset considering his wealth, age, and needs in
comparison to Rawdon. The narrator describes Rebecca emotions as she gave away to some sincere
and touching regrets that a piece of marvellous good fortune should have been so near her, and she
actually obliged to decline it. (P. 138)
Thackeray also mentions Sir Pitt s second wife, Lady Rawson, in an attempt to warn the reader of
what may become of Becky Sharp. Lady Rawson gave up her previous relationship which was based
on love to end up marrying Sir Pitt for his wealth and social standing. Although wealth was granted to
her, her life lacked any sort of happiness or satisfaction. The narrator later describe Rose s life as her
rose faded out of her cheeks, and the pretty freshness left her figure after the birth of a couple children,
and she became a mere matching in her husband s house, of no more use than the late lady Crawley s
grand piano. (P. 74)
Social forces also motivated parental attitudes in Vanity

Lab Report For Gram Negative Bacteria
NAME: Zachary R Short
Unknown Number: 118 Points: _________ (50 Possible)
Title: Identifying a Gram Positive and Gram Negative bacteria from a mixed broth
Abstract: I inoculated a T Soy agar with bacteria number 118, for this I used a streak isolation method.
Next, in order to distinguish between Gram positive and Gram negative I used a streak isolation
technique on a CNA plate, then performed the same exact procedure on a MacConkey plate. The
results from the CNA plate showed the Gram Positive bacteria was an Alpha hemolyzer. Next, I used a
P Disc on a T Soy agar inoculated with bacteria 118 and determined the Gram Positive bacteria was
not sensitive to P Disc antibiotics. This revealed the Gram Positive bacteria to be Streptococcus Mitis.
The results from the MacConkey plate proved the Gram Negative bacteria to be a lactose fermenter.
With the Gram Negative bacteria I performed a lysine test with positive results. Next, I performed an
ornithine test on the Gram Negative bacteria, with negative results, therefore I concluded the Gram
Negative bacteria was Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Introduction: The two bacteria from sample number 118 I have identified to be Streptococcus mitis
and Klebsiella pneumoniae. When taking a class like Microbiology it is understood that most
individuals will progress further into the medical field. In the medical field it is important to know as
much about as many different bacteria as possible. One example of why this is

You ll also need to know what version of firmware is installed on your phone. Third party applications
can then be browsed, downloaded and installed with software such as Cydia, which is conveniently
included in jailbreaking tools. Part II: Instructions How to jailbreak an iPhone and install third party
applications. Jailbreaking a iphone can be a relatively simple task to do. There are two types of
jailbreak you can perform on your iPhone, and they are a tethered jailbreak and an untethered
jailbreak. 1) Tethered jailbreak: This method is not recommended, as it requires you to jailbreak your
iPhone by connecting it to your computer every time you switch off your phone or if the battery dies.
Usually, this method is only performed when a new software update for the iPhone is released and an
untethered jailbreak method is unavailable. 2) Untethered jailbreak: This method involves connecting
your iPhone to your computer once and jailbreaking it. After doing this, your phone remains
jailbroken even after it switches off and you switch it back on again. In other words, the jailbreaking
process is permanently done on your iPhone without needing to be done again if you reboot your
phone. Of course if you wish to un jailbreak your iPhone, it s still possible by resetting via iTunes. So
naturally this is the preferred

The Importance Of British Literature
British literature has been a controversial subject for a very long time throughout history. The main
topics of its importance or there lack is one of the most significant debates in today s modern age.
American studies have to this day been about British literature, but is it reasonable that we should
study it? Not only is there a big debate about British literature being taught in America, but more
explicitly being taught in high school. Many literary scholars think that reasons of why or why not
coincide with the two. More scholars lean to the opinion that British literature should not be taught in
high school. Furthermore, educators justify their beliefs, but also give practical, logical, and useful
ideology that supports the theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Adams (2013) The age of chivalry is gone: that of sophisters, economists, and
calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever . He said there for himself
that chivalry is no longer relevant, so why should high school student have to learn about? This goes
to prove why British literature should not be taught in high school because chivalry is a huge
component of it and chivalry is dead. In the words of Adams (2013) Chivalry is best defined as a
medieval knightly system, with its religious, moral, and social code . This means that men should be
kind noble and fair to everyone. It is, in reality, a set of moral rules that one should follow. We hardly
ever see any of this in today s society. It is hardly ever that someone holds the door for another, or
helping an elder across the street, or even walking neighborhood dogs. These examples would be
perfect for modern chivalry, but we just don t see it in our modern world.
A Discussion on Chivalry When discussing medieval chivalry, the topic of modern chivalry should
never arise. Modern chivalry or their lack of is completely and utterly different than that of medieval
chivalry. Chivalry has changed and some may say have died out throughout the ages. It is an entirely
different world that we live in today than that of two thousand years ago. Why should we discuss it in
modern times, if there is no relation to the lack of contemporary

James Weldon Johnson Research Paper
African American Racial Pride in James Weldon Johnson s Literary Work James Weldon Johnson
(1871 1938) was an important Black author, poet, leader, and political activist whose work was very
influential in his time. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1871 to middle class parents. In a long
career he worked as a teacher, a lawyer, a diplomat and the executive officer of the NAACP (National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People). His literary works had a powerful influence on
other African American poets of the time, and those that followed him. His best known work is the
hymn, Lift Every Voice and Sing, which is considered the Negro National Anthem. He wrote many
other poems such as The Color Sergeant, To America, and The Creation. In these poems, he expresses

black and white meant stood out starkly. According to Carroll A. Richards, he was influenced directly
by the conditions of life for African Americans in the rural South (347). Johnson tried to bring the
determination of African Americans against these barriers to the attention of the wider world. Allan H.
Spear asserts that Johnson was a part of the movement to create a positive and vital culture rooted in
the folk experience of the Negro people (Richards 344). He accomplishes this goal in To America

because the product generated by higher education is not visible, tangible that cannot be held,
analyzed and inspected for defects. The study offers insight on how universities in Tanzania have
managed service quality and student satisfaction.
A total of 102 respondents were involved in data collection process using questionnaires and
interviews on students, administrative staff and departments selected at random. The study used
descriptive cross sectional research design. The study on student satisfaction based on service quality
attributes of service responsiveness, reliability and availability. Findings spell out service
responsiveness; service reliability and service availability are significant in measuring service quality
and also the level of student satisfaction. In the study students were not satisfied with the services that
are rendered by different universities.
The findings imply that public and private universities should adequately analyze service quality

Kofi Annan believes that globalization is unavoidable when he compares it to the laws of gravity
which is inescapable; this is exemplified when he states that arguing against globalization is like
arguing against the laws of gravity . He believes it is pointless because it is bound to happen and
instead of fighting against globalization individuals should embrace and take the advantages it offers.

The European colonization was a period in history when European countries such as Britain rapidly
took over and colonized many parts of the world which led to trade and interaction between different
peoples. Throughout the centuries of European control much advancement has been made in
transportation, communication and technology. In particular, the printing press, which was created
around the 1500 s was a printing medium used to copy text. The printing press was slow to develop,
but it gradually initiated one of the first technological advancements which spread throughout
European cities and countries. This meant that with more printing presses being made there were more
copies of texts which led to a faster way of communication. The invention and advancement of the
printing press was one of the first contributing factors of globalization through communication. One of
the other major events that shaped history was the Silk Road. The Silk Road was an ancient trade
route stretching from Europe to Asia. It was used to export goods, but also served as a means of
carrying out cultural trade amongst different civilizations and it was used to exchange ideas. This
presents the idea that even though initially its purpose was only to trade and gain materials, it
eventually transformed into a way of communication between many different

The History Of The Irs
The History of the IRS
The IRS has a long history of enforcing various form of taxes and a variety of regulation in the United
States of America. In fact, federal agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms
began as part of the IRS before separation onto its own agency. Below is a brief timeline of the origins
of the IRS and subsequent events that transformed it into the agency it is today:
1862 President Lincoln signed into law a revenue raising measure to help pay for Civil War expenses.
The measure created a Commissioner of Internal Revenue and the nation s first income tax (Internal
Revenue Service, 2013).
1913 Wyoming ratified the 16th Amendment, providing the three quarter majority of states necessary
to amend the Constitution. The 16th Amendment gave Congress the authority to enact an income tax
(Internal Revenue Service, 2013).
1919 The states ratified the 18th Amendment, barring the manufacture, sale or transport of
intoxicating beverages. Congress passed the Volstead Act, which gave the Commissioner of Internal
Revenue the primary responsibility for enforcement of Prohibition (Internal Revenue Service, 2013)
1944 Congress passed the Individual Income Tax Act, which created the standard deductions on Form
1040 (Internal Revenue Service, 2013).
1972 The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division separated from the IRS to become the independent
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (Internal Revenue Service, 2013).

On page 4 it says that bad sleep habits and long term sleep loss can affect your long term health. But
on page 7, it says you can counteract the mistakes a tired person makes, if you take short naps.
Astronauts in space average 2 hours less sleep than usual as stated on page 6. This makes them
grumpy and have trouble concentrating. However, a nap could help them make fewer mistakes and
boost their mental performance. So you should try to get the right amount for your age group, or else
you will suffer these negative effects. Luckily, napping can help you regain lost sleep, help you focus,
and counteract the effects of loss of sleep. On page 6, it tells you that scientific studies prove the
benefits of naps. In fact, nappers may even have better long term health compared to people who don t
nap as stated on page 8. On nights when you don t get enough sleep, napping can help. Napping for as
little as 24 minutes improves your mental performance. Therefore, napping can help you if you don t
get enough sleep. In conclusion, there are many negative effects because of sleep loss but napping can
help lessen these effects. So for everyone, there is a right amount of sleep, but if that isn t met napping
can help reduce the bad effects that lack of sleep caused. Seems like Adamoond should have taken a

Analysis Of The Movie Trainspotting
The movie Trainspotting, released in the July of 1996, depicts a group of heroin addicts and their peers
eking out an existence in 1980 s Edinburgh, Scotland. Based on a 1993 book of the same name by
Irvine Welsh, the movie was a commercial success as well as critical one. It is ranked as the 10th best
British movie of All Time by the British Film Institute in 1999 (Best 100 British Films). When the
book was published Welsh was condemned for glamorizing heroin abuse, to which he responded that
he was only depicting what was going on, what he knew, and who he knew. The book and the movie
mirror the reality of the creation of an underclass in Edinburgh in the late 1970 s and 1980 s.
Historically opiates have been a part of Edinburgh since the late 1600 s. After heroin was synthesized
and began being used as a painkiller in 1894 Edinburgh became the capital of opiate production as
discussed in an article from The Guardian in 2009. The article quotes Michael Fry as saying By the
end of the 19th century, writes Fry, Edinburgh produced most of the world s opiate drugs, heroin
included. (Edemariam and Scott) In the 1980 s however the situation changed dramatically. Cheaper
heroin from South Asia became readily available which was met with a growing receptive audience.
The same outsourcing that created the US Rust Belt and condemned Detroit to become a shadow of
former self was felt in Scotland as well. So when that influx of drugs came in the early 80 s it was met

The Struggle Of Women In The 1920 s
After reading both of the short articles, what really stuck out to me is how in the face of adversity and
pressure from people to simply stay put in typical women roles, that women continued to break the
glass ceiling. With the back lash of feminism and what many fought for in the sixties and seventies it
would be very easy to see that women of the eighties were stepping away from that role. Many would
say that women of that era failed their mother s generation, but what I see is that these women had to
make their own way, all be it different from their mothers, but in their own right were pioneering
women s rights in the second wave of the movement. Finally allowing the term date rape to be
considered as real rape, is such a huge step forward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We tend to take for granted many of the rights we have come to know of, and think of them being
rights for a long time, finding out that these rights only came out in the eighties and nineties saddened
me. To think of a time that women and men did not have rights to tell someone they knew or had a
relationship with no and for it to mean no, seems so common sense now. It because of work of women
like Brownmiller and Estrich that many no longer have to fear retribution of claims of Date rape. In
her article Neumann speaks about the backlash to women s rights and how many viewed feminism as
anti male or anti family. Although, I do not consider myself to be a feminist I have never thought that
those who are as either of anti male or anti family, I think that sometimes things that we fear we tend
to label as to have a point of hatred for and maybe that s where those titles come from. Being able to
see the victim family rape laws and for men to be educated that women do not owe them sex or are
meant to be submissive are huge leaps toward equality. Obviously there is still work to be done and
that will continue to be needed done until all people are viewed and treated equally, and while the
views on feminism were pushed down I think the ultimate goals of the feminist movement started in
the seventies about rape and rape education are huge

Not exactly.
To say I experienced culture shock when, smack in the middle of my junior year, my dad s job moved

The Bride Ship Was Important For The Future Of The Colonies
In the spring of 1620, a ship carrying anxious women traveling to a new land in hopes of starting a
new life with their new husbands. These women took the plunge into exaggerated promises and
wishful thinking. Promises of land, money, and status was promised to these women. However this
fortunate life was not all like it seemed. The bride ship was important for the future of the colony due
to the fact that it allowed the colonies to reproduce and flourish, stopped interracial marriage, and lead
to a feminist movement as we know it today.
Colonial mail order brides were considered hero s to the colonies. The first attempt to bring over
brides was in the early 1600 s by the British and French colonies. These countries strongly encouraged
immigration to the America s. However this was not enough to help the population increase. Not many
families immigrated to the south, also New France was not lucky in drawing in potential citizens. New
England did not experience this disappointment and there population continues somewhat to flourish.
Due to an unsteady growing of the population and reproduction not increasing the government
advertised a bride ship in European towns.
The movement of these women from European countries to the American colonies was important for
the reproduction of the nation. There was a scarce reproduction of children and promises of continuing
the population. However the reason this movement was so important was because the men in the
colonies were getting

How To Start A Fire Department Essay
STUDENT SAMPLE ESSAY
Tamms Fire Department
What is a Volunteer Fire Department? A Volunteer Fire Department is composed of volunteers who
will perform fire suppression or other related emergency services for a local jurisdiction. People
should volunteer because people can save lives and they can save the houses from completely burning
down to the ground. People can help the community by showing up to training nights and meetings to
see what it is like to be on a fire department. Volunteer firefighters are needed because they will need
people to operate the pumps and going into a burning building to save a elderly s life or even a dog s
life. Fire Departments are good for the community especially for a small town like Tamms, Illinois.
Volunteer Fire Departments need more funding especially for new equipment, lot of training, and
salary. A lot of the equipment that the Fire Department uses are the Jaws of life to cut people of ...

Garza, Harriet Mandela, And Harriet Tubman And The Heroes...
Heroes of Justice Have you ever seen someone s freedom taken from them? Have you ever seen
discrimination right in front of your eyes? Well, Alicia Garza, Nelson Mandela, and Harriet Tubman
all experienced these issues first hand and decided to enact change. Alicia Garza started the Black
Lives Matter movement to help abolish racial inequality, Harriet Tubman brought hope to other slaves
as she started the underground railroad and helped slaves escape, and Nelson Mandela fought against
apartheid and for freedom. All three of these individuals helped to enact change by supporting
movements that would help eliminate racial inequality, while also supporting freedom. To start,

(Mandela 1). Nelson Mandela had a different method than most, as he used his platform to create
change and give freedom and rights to his people. The text also says, It is from these comrades in the
struggle that I learned the meaning of courage... I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but
the triumph over it. I felt fear myself more times than I can remember, but I hid it behind a mask of
boldness (Mandela 4). One great characteristic of Mandela is that he had the ability to never show fear
or doubt, no matter the circumstances, he always proved to be a leader and thus the reason he was able
to accomplish so much. Finally, the text says, I never lost hope that this great transformation would
occur. Not only because of the great heroes I have already cited, but because of the courage of the
ordinary men and women of my country (Mandela 5). Mandela fought through the toughest of
situations and even went to prison for 27 years, just for his people, and continued to fight for them and
their rights. These individuals all had hopes and dreams for their people, and they put everything they
had into making sure that they was accomplished. Last but not least, Alicia Garza helped to enact

Fireworks
Introduction Whether it be the 4th of July, a day at Disneyland, or Chinese New Year, fireworks can
be used to appeal to people of all ages, genders, and races. These low explosive pyrotechnic devices
are primarily used for aesthetic or entertainment purposes. Fireworks come in various forms, including
sparklers, firecrackers, basic fireworks, and ariel or display fireworks. Those who watch firework
displays find that those can be broken into smaller categories by four primary effects. These effects
include noise, light, smoke, and floating material. Because of the varying types available, it is
common for fireworks to be classified by how they perform, whether it be on the ground or more
commonly, aerial. The overall dangers associated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scientific aspect of fireworks grew in Germany, where advancement became the key goal in
pyrotechnics. It wasn t until the nineteenth century that fireworks also became popular in America.
Firework development, such as the forest green color, is still continuing today (Gondhia).
Discussion
A basic firework, sparkler, firecracker, and aerial all have different components in which produce
different reactions. Different components may also be added to an aerial firework to produce various
colors and shapes. A basic firework is made up of six basic ingredients. These ingredients include fuel,
an oxidising agent, a reducing agent, regulators, a coloring agent, and binders. Charcoal or black
powder is the most common fuel in fireworks. Other elements like thermite can be used in place of
black powder, although fuels usually contain an organic element. The fuel initially starts to work
inside the firework when it begins to lose electrons to atoms within the oxidiser, thereby reducing and
releasing atoms from the oxidiser. When this occurs, bonds are formed between the fuel and oxygen
atoms, causing the product to be somewhat stable. However, only a minimal amount of energy is
required to start the combustion of this fuel oxidiser compound. As a result, the solid mixture liquefies
and vaporizes into the flame of the ignition causing a massive release of energy. This act marks the
beginning of combustion (Gondhia). The oxidising agent produces

Bill Cosby Debate
This article addresses a controversial issue that has remained secret for years. Twenty nine courageous
women have come together to tell their stories about how Bill Cosby sexually abused them. They
claim that they were drugged and raped by him, sometimes for weeks and months. Some of them were
even underage at the time it happened and they were afraid at that time to come public with this issue.
Almost all the women say that they know even more victims, but they are afraid to step into the public
eye. However, Cosby denies any sexual harassment and hasn t faced any punishment as there is no
tangible proof that those statements are true. In my opinion Bill Cosby should be charged or even
imprisoned for these unlawful acts, because why would

The Spectacle Theatre Costumes
There are several elements in a play that make it successful. These elements consist of the writer s
plot, theme, characters, dialogue, music and the Spectacle . The Spectacle refers to the visual elements
that make up a play: sets, costumes and special effects. Although costumes are only one small
component in a play, I believe they are very imperative for the overall feel of the audience. The
costumes worn by the performers portray the personality of the character along with the period of time
of the play. According to a Canadian designer, Judith Bowden, The main job of costume design in a
production is to provide physical and emotional support to every actor through the clothing he or she
will wear to enhance characterization ( The costumes designers role ). There is an extensive history of
Costume design in Theater, an each century has importance.
Theatre design has believed to be created from the ancient Greeks. There costumes varied because of
how they grew up living in a ritualized style of theatre. Their costumes consisted of face masks, face

The clothing will accurately reflect the clothing of the appropriate time in history. Costumes are
created for movement. Allowing actors to raise their arms without moving the entire costume or being

enormous amount of performances for months or even a year. Costumes today are made from natural
fibers like cotton, linen, silk and wool. Styles of costumes design will continue to go in and out,
however, the principle behind costumes remains endless. As Robert Edmond Jones wrote in 1941, A
stage costume is a creation of the theater. Its quality is purely theatrical and taken outside the theater it
loses its magic at once. It dies as a plant dies when uprooted

Exome sequencing is one example of NGS that is useful when the identity of the specific genes
involved in the disease has not yet been identified. The technique, which entails sequencing only the
1% of the genome that is exons and thus codes for proteins, is less costly than whole genome
sequencing and is increasingly being used for the diagnosis of rare inherited disorders. A 2013 study
on MHS using exome sequencing was able to identify over 100 RYR1 and CACNA1S variants in an
asymptomatic population, reclassify several previously classified pathogenic variants as likely non
pathogenic due to high prevalence, as well as alert several individuals with a high likelihood of MHS
based on known pathogenic mutations7. The major use of large scale exome sequencing efforts in
MHS is that they will allow researchers to identify the pathogenicity of variants identified in RYR1
and CACNA1S genes. In addition, the technique can be used in combination with functional studies to
identify new mutations in families for whom traditional methods have not identified a mutation. A
limitation of this technology, however, is that many variants of unknown significance (VUS) are
frequently identified, making interpretation and large scale clinical application of the results

Before we go into this, we have to understand the difference between the foreigner and the American.
When Muslims immigrate to the US, they are faced with the constant stares of onlookers who are
confused of what they are, where they come from, and when are they leaving. As you can tell,
Americans have always seen Muslims as the other , but tensions intensified after the 9/11 attacks. The
9/11 attacks brought Muslim culture to the forefront. Many people started performing hate crimes
against Muslims and Islamic nations. The American government has sanctioned surveillance and
investigations into Islamic nations in order to prevent another 9/11 attack. The government has
perpetuated this hatred towards Muslims on the basis that since all terrorists are Muslims, all Muslims
must be terrorists. Furthermore, Americans have this idea that Muslims should apologize for the 9/11
attacks. The entire Muslim culture was not responsible for 9/11. Although it seems to be easy to point
the finger at one group of people, it becomes difficult when you are blaming a group of people on one
person s actions. If Americans expect an apology for Muslims, all whites should be prepared to
apologize to blacks for slavery. The apology concept is complete ludicrous. If you believe that all
Muslims are terrorists, this judgment makes the statement that all blacks are criminals true. If either
one are true, how do we explain Barack Obama and Farah Pandith. In addition, airport customs have
used the 9/11 attacks as an excuse for random security checks of Muslims. This promotes an almost
majority rule of widespread racial profiling of Muslims. On the airport, there are numerous customs
checkpoints for Homeland Security that takes a minimum of 2 hours to catch your plane. Americans

William Penn and A New Society
Nearly a century before the original 13 colonies were declared as independent, William Penn initiated
the colony Pennsylvania that bore its own independence based on individual and religious freedom.
He is recognized as one of the seventeenth century s most devoted advocates of liberty of conscience.

Four months later, Penn had constructed his general layout for colonization. To the purchasers of sites
within the province, Penn made his first mention of a large city, Philadelphia. Penn did not want
Philadelphia to be a duplicate of London. Instead, he desired the appearance of an orderly, yet rural,
English town. 3 He built the foundations of the town in a new way to match the new principles Penn
wanted Pennsylvania to be ruled by. Penn idealized Pennsylvania as the political solution to economic
prosperity. The free practice of different faiths, except for Roman Catholicism, was necessary to a
successful economy. Political participation by various religious groups was also a condition for a
productive society. 2 Nearly 20 years after commencing construction, Penn drafted and structured a
Pennsylvania Charter of Privileges, for the citizens of the territory to be governed by.
Penn planned on using his ideals to grow a successful and prosperous society, and had radical beliefs

Bsbwor501 What Makes A Good Role Model
BSBWOR501 Summative Assessment 2 ? Michelle Rick
1. What makes a good role model and how can I ensure that I act as a role model for employees I
supervise?
The definition of a role model is a person whose behaviour, example or success can be emulated by
others, especially young people. Their values, actions and behaviours are upheld as an ideal and to be
desired. Being a role model may not be taken in its entirety. It can be broken down allowing a person
to be a role model in one area and not another. Being a manager is not a guarantee to be a role model.
Good leaders will model behaviours that encourage employees to endorse organisational goals and
objectives. By modelling the behaviours you find desirable and that will help reach company gaols
others will also begin to model said behaviours.

Master Craftsmen in the Medieval
I like crafts that are made out of necessity because they re a little naive you made it because you
needed it. Amy Sedaris. Master craftsmen during the Medieval Ages created items needed for the
kingdom to thrive. Craftsmen included candle makers, shoemakers, and farmers, but the most famous
craftsmen were blacksmiths, carpenters, and masons. Every type of craftsmen were in groups called
guilds and every guild needed to cooperate. If one guild failed to meet its needs, then the whole
medieval structure will fail, causing the kingdom to fall.
Carpenters, masons, and blacksmiths were important craftsmen in building castles and villages and
you had to go through apprenticeship for many years before becoming one of the three master
craftsmen. Before becoming a master craftsman, the child started their training at the age of eleven or
twelve and became an apprentice. A child would be able to choose his own profession or follow the
family business. Some craftsmen that a child can become include: carpenters, masons, and
blacksmiths The apprentice would last from five to nine years depending on the trade. He received no
wages and could not marry until he was a journeyman. After finishing apprenticeship, the apprentice
became a journeyman. A journeyman received money for his labour and bought supplies that he
needed. During his own time, he created a Masterpiece and later presented it to his group of
craftsmen, or guild, to see if he was ready to be a Master ,

but Chick fil A has used a strategy that ensures their success. Another factor which has the ability to
have a major impact on profitability is the increasing price of chicken. With the increasing popularity
of ethanol based fuels made primarily of corn it is becoming more costly to feed and raise chickens,
whose main source of food is corn. This new demand for corn has increased the price, which is in turn
passed onto the next buyer. It is necessary for Chick fil A to address this issue and formulate a plan of

technological advantages that can distinguish the company from its competitors. The company does,

to the company s large profit margins. Secondly, Chick fil A has stringent guidelines and goals

Women s Foreign And Domestic Policies Play
What role did China s foreign and domestic policies play in the 1899 Boxer Rebellion? The Boxer
Rebellion, also known as the Boxer Uprising, was a movement created by nationalist Chinese men in
response to what they perceived to be the westernization of their country by European forces and
influences ( Boxer Rebellion ). Most of the people involved were very young men who had been
inducted into a society known as the Yihequan, or Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, to fight
against foreign influences that were making their way into the culture that many Chinese people loved
and wanted to protect (Harrison). The Yihequan felt that their enemies were not only the European
troops and missionaries that had made their way into China, but also the Chinese people who had
welcomed the foreigners and converted to Christianity in response to European missionaries
(Tiedemann). They were not only angered at the perceived erasure of their traditional culture, but
China had been going through a host of problems at the time, including severe droughts leading to
widespread food shortages, and many of the Yihequan chose to blame this on the Christian influences
in China. This was due to the belief in traditional Chinese culture that the only way to end drought
was to pray to the gods to end it. The intense rituals that the villagers used to beg their gods to end
drought was believed to need the sincere participation of the entire village in order to work. The
Catholic Chinese did not

Effects Of Colonization In Africa
J. Klíma argues that Africa was the most affected by colonization. Colonialism established artificial
states which did not respect ethnic, natural and cultural units. Massive decolonization of the countries
in Africa commenced mainly after the Second World War. The Anglophone countries struggled for
their independence more or less successfully. Great Britain began to retreat from the Empire shortly
after 1945. The British government fell back because they could not afford financing of the
administration, army and other important issues to maintain their distant possessions. There was not
only lack of interest to engage in African possessions, there was also general persuasion of
illegitimacy of colonialism. It is confirmed by United Nations resolution (Declaration on the Granting
of Independence to Colonial Countries and People). According to this resolution, Recognizing the
passionate yearning for freedom in all dependent peoples and the decisive role of such peoples in the
attainment of their independence, and Recognizing that the peoples of the world ardently desire the
end of colonialism in all its manifestations, Milestone in decolonization in sub Saharan Africa became

  • 2. Un Chien Andalou The Marvelous Irrational The Surrealists believed that the conscious mind repressed the power of imagination and dreams, weakening it by norms or taboos. They utilized unusual and untraditional techniques and phenomena to achieve subconscious creativity, eradicating the line between dream and reality. The film Un Chien Andalou was extreme for 1929, because non traditional art was passion of both Buñuel and Dali; therefore, they were driven to shock the common movie viewers by using bizarre surrealistic imagery in a film that was disjointed and disturbing to the masses, because of its purposeful bizarre symbolism and suggested eroticism. Un Chien Andalou was born of the encounter between my dreams and Dali s. , says Luis Bunuel in his autobiography; both Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali are known to be artists who are considered as the creators and representatives of the Surrealist movement, while challenging it in every work of them. The film begins with Buñuel s dream of a woman s eye cut by a razor, and Dali s dream of ants emerging from a hole in a man s hand, which are the most important symbols in the film. The beginning is followed with a card reading Once Open a Time , and later it jumps to eight years later without a significant change in the characters or the events: only the sound ... In the Nineteenth Century, many authors addressed those social forces in forms of novels. Among those authors were William Makepeace Thackeray and Thomas Hardy. Meanwhile, she figures that Matilda s fortune will eventually be in the possession of her favourite nephew, Rawdon. Thackeray examines Rebecca s character in the event of Sir Pitt s proposal while she was secretly married to his son, Rawdon. When she refused Sir Pitt, Thackeray described her refusal in a tone of regret as she considers Sir Pitt as a potential asset considering his wealth, age, and needs in comparison to Rawdon. The narrator describes Rebecca emotions as she gave away to some sincere and touching regrets that a piece of marvellous good fortune should have been so near her, and she actually obliged to decline it. (P. 138) Thackeray also mentions Sir Pitt s second wife, Lady Rawson, in an attempt to warn the reader of what may become of Becky Sharp. Lady Rawson gave up her previous relationship which was based on love to end up marrying Sir Pitt for his wealth and social standing. Although wealth was granted to her, her life lacked any sort of happiness or satisfaction. The narrator later describe Rose s life as her rose faded out of her cheeks, and the pretty freshness left her figure after the birth of a couple children, and she became a mere matching in her husband s house, of no more use than the late lady Crawley s grand piano. • 5. Lab Report For Gram Negative Bacteria NAME: Zachary R Short Unknown Number: 118 Points: _________ (50 Possible) Title: Identifying a Gram Positive and Gram Negative bacteria from a mixed broth Abstract: I inoculated a T Soy agar with bacteria number 118, for this I used a streak isolation method. Next, in order to distinguish between Gram positive and Gram negative I used a streak isolation technique on a CNA plate, then performed the same exact procedure on a MacConkey plate. The results from the CNA plate showed the Gram Positive bacteria was an Alpha hemolyzer. Next, I used a P Disc on a T Soy agar inoculated with bacteria 118 and determined the Gram Positive bacteria was not sensitive to P Disc antibiotics. This revealed the Gram Positive bacteria to be Streptococcus Mitis. The results from the MacConkey plate proved the Gram Negative bacteria to be a lactose fermenter. With the Gram Negative bacteria I performed a lysine test with positive results. Next, I performed an ornithine test on the Gram Negative bacteria, with negative results, therefore I concluded the Gram Negative bacteria was Klebsiella pneumoniae. Introduction: The two bacteria from sample number 118 I have identified to be Streptococcus mitis and Klebsiella pneumoniae. When taking a class like Microbiology it is understood that most individuals will progress further into the medical field. In the medical field it is important to know as much about as many different bacteria as possible. One example of why this is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You ll also need to know what version of firmware is installed on your phone. Third party applications can then be browsed, downloaded and installed with software such as Cydia, which is conveniently included in jailbreaking tools. Part II: Instructions How to jailbreak an iPhone and install third party applications. Jailbreaking a iphone can be a relatively simple task to do. There are two types of jailbreak you can perform on your iPhone, and they are a tethered jailbreak and an untethered jailbreak. 1) Tethered jailbreak: This method is not recommended, as it requires you to jailbreak your iPhone by connecting it to your computer every time you switch off your phone or if the battery dies. Usually, this method is only performed when a new software update for the iPhone is released and an untethered jailbreak method is unavailable. 2) Untethered jailbreak: This method involves connecting your iPhone to your computer once and jailbreaking it. After doing this, your phone remains jailbroken even after it switches off and you switch it back on again. In other words, the jailbreaking process is permanently done on your iPhone without needing to be done again if you reboot your phone. Of course if you wish to un jailbreak your iPhone, it s still possible by resetting via iTunes. So naturally this is the preferred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of British Literature British literature has been a controversial subject for a very long time throughout history. The main topics of its importance or there lack is one of the most significant debates in today s modern age. American studies have to this day been about British literature, but is it reasonable that we should study it? Not only is there a big debate about British literature being taught in America, but more explicitly being taught in high school. Many literary scholars think that reasons of why or why not coincide with the two. More scholars lean to the opinion that British literature should not be taught in high school. Furthermore, educators justify their beliefs, but also give practical, logical, and useful ideology that supports the theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Adams (2013) The age of chivalry is gone: that of sophisters, economists, and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is extinguished forever . He said there for himself that chivalry is no longer relevant, so why should high school student have to learn about? This goes to prove why British literature should not be taught in high school because chivalry is a huge component of it and chivalry is dead. In the words of Adams (2013) Chivalry is best defined as a medieval knightly system, with its religious, moral, and social code . This means that men should be kind noble and fair to everyone. It is, in reality, a set of moral rules that one should follow. We hardly ever see any of this in today s society. It is hardly ever that someone holds the door for another, or helping an elder across the street, or even walking neighborhood dogs. These examples would be perfect for modern chivalry, but we just don t see it in our modern world. A Discussion on Chivalry When discussing medieval chivalry, the topic of modern chivalry should never arise. Modern chivalry or their lack of is completely and utterly different than that of medieval chivalry. Chivalry has changed and some may say have died out throughout the ages. It is an entirely different world that we live in today than that of two thousand years ago. Why should we discuss it in modern times, if there is no relation to the lack of contemporary ... The European colonization was a period in history when European countries such as Britain rapidly took over and colonized many parts of the world which led to trade and interaction between different peoples. Throughout the centuries of European control much advancement has been made in transportation, communication and technology. In particular, the printing press, which was created around the 1500 s was a printing medium used to copy text. The printing press was slow to develop, but it gradually initiated one of the first technological advancements which spread throughout European cities and countries. This meant that with more printing presses being made there were more copies of texts which led to a faster way of communication. The invention and advancement of the printing press was one of the first contributing factors of globalization through communication. One of the other major events that shaped history was the Silk Road. The Silk Road was an ancient trade route stretching from Europe to Asia. Analysis Of The Movie Trainspotting The movie Trainspotting, released in the July of 1996, depicts a group of heroin addicts and their peers eking out an existence in 1980 s Edinburgh, Scotland. Based on a 1993 book of the same name by Irvine Welsh, the movie was a commercial success as well as critical one. It is ranked as the 10th best British movie of All Time by the British Film Institute in 1999 (Best 100 British Films). When the book was published Welsh was condemned for glamorizing heroin abuse, to which he responded that he was only depicting what was going on, what he knew, and who he knew. The book and the movie mirror the reality of the creation of an underclass in Edinburgh in the late 1970 s and 1980 s. Historically opiates have been a part of Edinburgh since the late 1600 s. After heroin was synthesized and began being used as a painkiller in 1894 Edinburgh became the capital of opiate production as discussed in an article from The Guardian in 2009. The article quotes Michael Fry as saying By the end of the 19th century, writes Fry, Edinburgh produced most of the world s opiate drugs, heroin included. (Edemariam and Scott) In the 1980 s however the situation changed dramatically. Cheaper heroin from South Asia became readily available which was met with a growing receptive audience. With the back lash of feminism and what many fought for in the sixties and seventies it would be very easy to see that women of the eighties were stepping away from that role. Many would say that women of that era failed their mother s generation, but what I see is that these women had to make their own way, all be it different from their mothers, but in their own right were pioneering women s rights in the second wave of the movement. Colonial mail order brides were considered hero s to the colonies. The first attempt to bring over brides was in the early 1600 s by the British and French colonies. These countries strongly encouraged immigration to the America s. However this was not enough to help the population increase. Not many families immigrated to the south, also New France was not lucky in drawing in potential citizens. Different components may also be added to an aerial firework to produce various colors and shapes. A basic firework is made up of six basic ingredients. These ingredients include fuel, an oxidising agent, a reducing agent, regulators, a coloring agent, and binders. Charcoal or black powder is the most common fuel in fireworks. Other elements like thermite can be used in place of black powder, although fuels usually contain an organic element. The fuel initially starts to work inside the firework when it begins to lose electrons to atoms within the oxidiser, thereby reducing and releasing atoms from the oxidiser. When this occurs, bonds are formed between the fuel and oxygen atoms, causing the product to be somewhat stable. However, only a minimal amount of energy is required to start the combustion of this fuel oxidiser compound. As a result, the solid mixture liquefies and vaporizes into the flame of the ignition causing a massive release of energy. This act marks the beginning of combustion (Gondhia). The technique, which entails sequencing only the 1% of the genome that is exons and thus codes for proteins, is less costly than whole genome sequencing and is increasingly being used for the diagnosis of rare inherited disorders. A 2013 study on MHS using exome sequencing was able to identify over 100 RYR1 and CACNA1S variants in an asymptomatic population, reclassify several previously classified pathogenic variants as likely non pathogenic due to high prevalence, as well as alert several individuals with a high likelihood of MHS based on known pathogenic mutations7. The major use of large scale exome sequencing efforts in MHS is that they will allow researchers to identify the pathogenicity of variants identified in RYR1 and CACNA1S genes. In addition, the technique can be used in combination with functional studies to identify new mutations in families for whom traditional methods have not identified a mutation. A limitation of this technology, however, is that many variants of unknown significance (VUS) are frequently identified, making interpretation and large scale clinical application of the results ... • 29. Conference Reflection Paper During the week of May 25, I had the privilege to attend a conference in Washington D.C. called NCORE, the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity. Conference topics ranged from police brutality, mass incarceration, Ferguson to moving towards identity after liberation. Since I am an African American, I felt that it was expected of me to attend conferences that only relate to my people and my identity. To stray away from the expected , I decided to dedicate one day to learning about different cultures. That morning, I attended a conference on the education of Asian Americans in the United States. I went into this conference not expecting to take away anything since our culture has conditioned us to believe that Asian Americans are the model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before we go into this, we have to understand the difference between the foreigner and the American. When Muslims immigrate to the US, they are faced with the constant stares of onlookers who are confused of what they are, where they come from, and when are they leaving. As you can tell, Americans have always seen Muslims as the other , but tensions intensified after the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 attacks brought Muslim culture to the forefront. Many people started performing hate crimes against Muslims and Islamic nations. The American government has sanctioned surveillance and investigations into Islamic nations in order to prevent another 9/11 attack. The government has perpetuated this hatred towards Muslims on the basis that since all terrorists are Muslims, all Muslims must be terrorists. Furthermore, Americans have this idea that Muslims should apologize for the 9/11 attacks. The entire Muslim culture was not responsible for 9/11. Although it seems to be easy to point the finger at one group of people, it becomes difficult when you are blaming a group of people on one person s actions. If Americans expect an apology for Muslims, all whites should be prepared to apologize to blacks for slavery. The apology concept is complete ludicrous. If you believe that all Muslims are terrorists, this judgment makes the statement that all blacks are criminals true. If either one are true, how do we explain Barack Obama and Farah Pandith. In addition, airport customs have used the 9/11 attacks as an excuse for random security checks of Muslims. This promotes an almost majority rule of widespread racial profiling of Muslims. On the airport, there are numerous customs checkpoints for Homeland Security that takes a minimum of 2 hours to catch your plane. Americans even have this fear of terror ... Four months later, Penn had constructed his general layout for colonization. To the purchasers of sites within the province, Penn made his first mention of a large city, Philadelphia. Penn did not want Philadelphia to be a duplicate of London. Instead, he desired the appearance of an orderly, yet rural, English town. 3 He built the foundations of the town in a new way to match the new principles Penn wanted Pennsylvania to be ruled by. Penn idealized Pennsylvania as the political solution to economic prosperity. The free practice of different faiths, except for Roman Catholicism, was necessary to a successful economy. Political participation by various religious groups was also a condition for a productive society. 2 Nearly 20 years after commencing construction, Penn drafted and structured a Pennsylvania Charter of Privileges, for the citizens of the territory to be governed by. • 32. Master Craftsmen in the Medieval I like crafts that are made out of necessity because they re a little naive you made it because you needed it. Amy Sedaris. Master craftsmen during the Medieval Ages created items needed for the kingdom to thrive. Craftsmen included candle makers, shoemakers, and farmers, but the most famous craftsmen were blacksmiths, carpenters, and masons. Every type of craftsmen were in groups called guilds and every guild needed to cooperate. If one guild failed to meet its needs, then the whole medieval structure will fail, causing the kingdom to fall. Carpenters, masons, and blacksmiths were important craftsmen in building castles and villages and you had to go through apprenticeship for many years before becoming one of the three master craftsmen. Before becoming a master craftsman, the child started their training at the age of eleven or twelve and became an apprentice. A child would be able to choose his own profession or follow the family business. Some craftsmen that a child can become include: carpenters, masons, and blacksmiths The apprentice would last from five to nine years depending on the trade. He received no wages and could not marry until he was a journeyman. After finishing apprenticeship, the apprentice became a journeyman. A journeyman received money for his labour and bought supplies that he needed. During his own time, he created a Masterpiece and later presented it to his group of craftsmen, or guild, to see if he was ready to be a Master , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite this, Chick fil A has posted positive increases in revenue all 40 years the company has been in business, many of which have been double digit increases. These increases may seem extraordinary, but Chick fil A has used a strategy that ensures their success. Another factor which has the ability to have a major impact on profitability is the increasing price of chicken. With the increasing popularity of ethanol based fuels made primarily of corn it is becoming more costly to feed and raise chickens, whose main source of food is corn. This new demand for corn has increased the price, which is in turn passed onto the next buyer. It is necessary for Chick fil A to address this issue and formulate a plan of action to try to combat these rising costs. Technology Chick fil A does not have any distinct or visible technological advantages that can distinguish the company from its competitors. The company does, however, have processes in place which gives Chick fil A an advantage in both profitability and customer service. • 34. Women s Foreign And Domestic Policies Play What role did China s foreign and domestic policies play in the 1899 Boxer Rebellion? The Boxer Rebellion, also known as the Boxer Uprising, was a movement created by nationalist Chinese men in response to what they perceived to be the westernization of their country by European forces and influences ( Boxer Rebellion ). Most of the people involved were very young men who had been inducted into a society known as the Yihequan, or Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, to fight against foreign influences that were making their way into the culture that many Chinese people loved and wanted to protect (Harrison). The Yihequan felt that their enemies were not only the European troops and missionaries that had made their way into China, but also the Chinese people who had welcomed the foreigners and converted to Christianity in response to European missionaries (Tiedemann). They were not only angered at the perceived erasure of their traditional culture, but China had been going through a host of problems at the time, including severe droughts leading to widespread food shortages, and many of the Yihequan chose to blame this on the Christian influences in China. This was due to the belief in traditional Chinese culture that the only way to end drought was to pray to the gods to end it. The intense rituals that the villagers used to beg their gods to end drought was believed to need the sincere participation of the entire village in order to work. The Catholic Chinese did not ... • 35. Effects Of Colonization In Africa J. Klíma argues that Africa was the most affected by colonization. Colonialism established artificial states which did not respect ethnic, natural and cultural units. Massive decolonization of the countries in Africa commenced mainly after the Second World War. The Anglophone countries struggled for their independence more or less successfully. Great Britain began to retreat from the Empire shortly after 1945. The British government fell back because they could not afford financing of the administration, army and other important issues to maintain their distant possessions. There was not only lack of interest to engage in African possessions, there was also general persuasion of illegitimacy of colonialism. It is confirmed by United Nations resolution (Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and People). According to this resolution, Recognizing the passionate yearning for freedom in all dependent peoples and the decisive role of such peoples in the attainment of their independence, and Recognizing that the peoples of the world ardently desire the end of colonialism in all its manifestations, Milestone in decolonization in sub Saharan Africa became ...
