Italian American Attitudes Towards Speech Summary
Italian American attitudes towards speech not only is representative of their family orientated culture,
but also for the role oral traditions as a medium for providing younger generations the necessary
values and beliefs to thrive in what otherwise was a foreign society with different ideologies.
Throughout Mount Allegro, Mangione repeatedly talks about the idea of second generation Italian
immigrants being able to speak the parent s language, or mother tongue, Italian (Mangione 20 and 49
50). His mother, who reinforced the rule of only speaking Italian in the household, emphasizes the
importance of being able to communicate in a language shared by everyone in the household: I don t
want to hear anything but Italian in his house. You will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Italian American attitudes towards speech are often taught through descent, by lessons told from older
generations. One such lesson is the idea of never telling others about one s own problems or family
problems. Particularly relevant in Mangione s anecdote about Comare Alfreda and Compare Calogero,
in which Comare Alfreda discusses Compare Calogero s philandering to Jerre s mother (Mangione
168). As discussion of Compare Calogero s philandering to others could result in others, especially
women, paying more attention to Compare Calogero, this could have resulted in Comare Alfreda s
problems from coming true, emphasizing the sense of vulnerability when one reveals too much
information. This particularly becomes relevant, as Mangione states that eventually the details of the
story soon got around to [his] relatives (Mangione 180). In addition to keeping quiet about one s own
problems, the idea of omereta, the oath of silence, is also a practice passed down through descent, due
to the older generation s lack of faith in the law (Mangione

Hurricane Comme Essay
Hurricane Cosme can be traced to a tropical wave that formed on the west coast of Africa on or around
June 8. That westward moving wave, which was also responsible for the formation of Tropical Storm
Barry in the Caribbean Sea, eventually reached the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The progress of the wave
was slowed by a southwesterly movement within the Intertropical Convergence Zone.[10] During the
morning hours of June 20, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) began monitoring a broad area of
disturbed weather several hundred miles southeast of Acapulco, Mexico.[11] Assessed with a low
chance of tropical cyclone formation within a two day interval, conditions at the time were
unfavorable but expected to become more conducive for development over subsequent ... Show more

A large area of very cold cloud tops developed over and just southeast of the center of the storm, and
convective banding wrapping into the mass began to form, mainly in the north and east semicircles.
[18] Though the cloud pattern became elongated north to south during the pre dawn hours of the
following day,[19] a rapid improvement of the inner core on microwave and the structure on satellite
imagery became apparent. A timely AMSU pass indicated an eyewall nearly closed with an
accompanying intensity estimate of 77 mph (124 km/h), and a transient eye became visible on early
morning satellite images. As a result, the National Hurricane Center upgraded Cosme to a Category 1
hurricane on the Saffir Simpson hurricane wind scale.[20] Given the light wind shear, warm sea
surface temperature, and moist air environment, the agency predicted further intensification for the
following hours, and the system attained its peak intensity with winds of 85 mph (140 km/h) and a
minimum barometric pressure of 981 mbar (hPa; 28.97 inHg) late on June 25.[21] Thereafter, a result
of cooler sea surface temperatures forecast several days in advance, convection on the west side of the
circulation center began to erode significantly.[22] The tropical storm wind radii expanded the
following morning, but the inner core of Cosme, specifically the

Black Friday Essay
How far do sources 11 12 challenge the view presented in source 10 about the conduct of the police on
Black Friday?
The three sources to be compared are all in relation to the events that occurred on Black Friday ,
particularly surrounding the conduct of the metropolitan police. Source 10, taken from The Times
newspaper presents the view that the police were more victims of the women and raiders that they
were trying to control, and that it took some effort to restrain the women that were protesting on that
day. Whereas source 11, taken from a memorandum that was sent to the home office after Black
Friday gives the view that the police were acting violently towards the women protesting and that the
women in this situation were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Source 11 on the other hand disagrees with the view presented in source source 10. It is an extract
from a memorandum by the Parliamentary Conciliation Committee for Women s Suffrage send to the
Home Office after Black Friday . It agrees with the source ten in the sense that it admits a relentless
struggle occurred between the police and the suffragettes, but it disagrees with source 10 because it
presents the view that it was the police acting violently towards the women, who it says were flung
hither and thither amid moving traffic, and into the hands of a crows which was sometimes rough and
indecent . This opinion is presented because the purpose of the memorandum sent to the home office
was to request a public inquiry into the conduct of the police on Black Friday , because they did not
follow their usual course of action which would have been to arrest the women on a charge of
obstruction but they had been instructed to avoid, as far as possible, making any arrests which is why,
the women argue that the police were so violent. Also, this

Iron Curtain Speech Research Paper
The Cold War was the state of tension between democratic nations and the communist Soviet Union.
There were two opposing groups in the group. The United States and their allies formed NATO (North
Atlantic Treaty Organization) and the Soviet Union and their allies formed the Warsaw Pact. The
NATO was formed to stop the progression of communism throughout countries and the Warsaw Pact
wanted to take over countries to spread communism. The Cold War lasted from 1945 to 1992.

Hiroshima A Bomb August 6, 1945
Before the First World War, German scientists James Franck and Gustav Hertz conducted experiments
where they added electrons to Mercury atoms. They traced the energy changes that the collision
caused. That experiment led Nils Bohr to make a theory that an atom can absorb energy in precise and
definite amounts. After that experiment, many other scientists conducted research on radioactive
methods to chemical problems and conducted more experiments on how elements would react when

Churchill using the term Iron Curtain was iconic. The term became a part of the vocabulary used when
talking about Cold War. The speech was used to confirm the relationship with Britain and the United
States (forming an alliance). The speech was a warning of the danger that was the Soviet Union and
Communism. By giving the speech let the public know the dangers of the Soviet Union.
I think the Iron Curtain Speech speech was really interesting. I found myself to get lost while
watching the video of the speech as I was getting information about the topic. I think it was important
for the speech to be given. I don t have any other solution for the speech because it didn t affect
anyone in a negative way (unlike the A Bomb). Overall, I enjoyed reading about the topic and how it
set the beginning of the Cold War.

Leanro De Vinci Accomplishments
I find Leandro de Vinci most interesting. He was a painter, architect, inventor, and student of all things
scientific. A true genius in my eyes. Leandro was born April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. His hometown
was within the territory of the the republic of Florence under the rule of Medici. He was born out of
wedlock, and his parents were Caterina and Messer Piero Fruosino Di Vinci. Leandro died May 2,
1519 at his residence at Clos Luce. There are few documents on Leandro early years. He stayed with
his mother home until he was 5 years old. Then he moved into his fathers household in the beginning
of 1457. During his childhood, he received informal education in mathematics, geometry and Latin.

Current Approacheses To Targeting And The Current...
Current Approaches of targeting As increasing data is coming forward confirming the role of Jak
STAT pathway in several autoimmune disorders and malignancies, this pathway is attracting
substantial attention as a potential therapeutic target. Explained below are the FDA approved Jak
inhibitors also commonly known as Jakinibs. Tofacitinib As the first selective Janus kinase inhibitor to
be approved in humans, Tofacitinib garnered immense interest from the scientific community. Jak3 s
essential function in lymphocytes makes it an attractive therapeutic target since its deficiency does not
affect non immunologic tissues. As a result, tofacitinib inhibits Jak1 and to a certain extent JAK2.

Ruxolitinib Ruxolitinib is the first FDA approved Jakinib. It acts by potent inhibition of Jak1 and
Jak2. Initially it was approved for intermediate and high risk primary myelofibrosis after witnessing
the therapeutic efficacy in COMFORT I and COMFORT II trials. Effect seen was irrelevant of
Jak2V617F mutations. Preliminary results in models studying efficacy of ruxolotinib in psoriasis and
in RA have been encouraging. Studies are currently being conducted to study effect on polycythemia
vera, malignancies and alopecia areata (20). Second generation Jakinibs Almost 25 Jakinibs are
currently being tested for efficacy in diseases ranging from malignancies, to a host of autoimmune
disorders (Table 1). The initial Jakinibs approved by FDA are relatively non selective and inhibit a
broad spectrum of cytokines and interferons. Some of them are also included in ongoing clinical trials.
Baricitinib acts by blocking the subtypes Jak1 and Jak2 and as of February 2017 has been approved in
the EU as second line therapy for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis either alone or in conjunction with
methotrexate (21). Momelotinib, another non selective inhibitor of Janus kinases acts on Jak1 and
Jak2 with lesser efficacy towards Jak3 inhibition. It is currently undergoing Phase III clinical trials for
myelofibrosis with additional studies aiming to understand its role in metastatic

Explore How Ian Mcmillan Conveys His Attitudes Towards the...
McMillan uses harsh words throughout the poem to show his grief and remorse at his mothers death.
Words like shatters link with how he is feeling, like everything is broken and cannot be repaired. This
word makes us imagine something broken into lots of tiny pieces which can t be put back together
again, and it helps us to understand how broken and jumbled up he is feeling. The word slap when
talking about the tears (that) slap my torn face insinuates the idea that he is in physical pain, that the
emotional pain he feels is is so strong that he physically hurts.
In the first stanza, we find out about his mothers death. Enjambment is used to speed up the pace of
the poem, and show how quickly someone s whole live can change, like ... Show more content on

McMillan describes his tears to slap his torn face ; as well as slap being a raw and aggressive word,
the way he describes his face as torn perhaps suggests that it was his mother who held him together,
and now, without her, he is broken. This helps us to realise how important his mother was to him,
which makes us sympathise for him a lot and evokes a feeling of empathy when we put ourselves in
his position. McMillan says he feels trapped , like he is trapped by his own emotion and although it s
up to him to find a way out of this dark place, he can t see an escape. This shows how alone and
scared he is feeling knowing his motherr is no longer around and also makes us think how panicked he
must be feeling, as we would be if we were trapped somewhere. The word float makes us think that
McMillan is no longer in control of his emotions, that what he is feeling is unstoppable, but also it
instigates the sense that nothing seems quite normal around him, and that he is detached from reality.
The final stanza is a rhyming couplet that summarises the grief and emptiness and the lack of will to
go on without his mother. Feeling that the story ends just here conveys the idea that there isn t a story
to continue without his mother, showing how depressed McMillan is feeling, like he has reached a
dead end in his

Myers, S.C. (1984). Finance Theory and Financial Strategy . Interfaces, 14.
Introduction
This journal explained how to bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory. Myers
wrote this journal to explain why finance analysis had only slight impact on strategic planning, even
though strategic planning needs finance. Strategic and financial analysis are not reconciled. When low
net present value (NPV) projects are nurtured for strategic reasons, the strategic analysis overrides
measures of financial value, and vice versa.
Relevant Financial Theory
The financial concepts most relevant to strategic planning are those dealing with firms capital
investment decisions. To select the projects to be financed, we calculate ... Show more content on

There is also a lesson for current appli cations of finance theory to strategic is sues. Several new
approaches to financial strategy use a simple, traditional DCF model of the firm, [For example,
Fruhan 1979, Ch. 2]. These approaches are likely to be more useful for cash cows than for growth
businesses with substantial risk and intangible assets. The option value of growth and intangibles is
not ignored by good managers even when conventional financial techniques miss them. These values
may be brought in as strategic factors, dressed in non financial clothes. Dealing with the time series
links between capital investments, and with the option value these links create, is often left to strategic
planners. But new developments in finance theory promise to help.
Conclusion
Myers argued that the standard discounted cash flow techniques will tend to understate the option
value attached to growing, profitable lines of business. To bridge the gap between strategic planning
and finance theory, Myers suggested that the financial theorist need to apply existing finance theory
correctly and extend the theory on real option pricing to model time series interactions between
investments. Both sides should reconcile financial and strategic analysis to uncover hidden
assumptions to have deeper understanding on strategic

The Threat Of Supplier Power
The threat of supplier power is moderate. There are only a select few organic producers that make up a
large percentage of the organic food processed. Since a large number of 81 companies in 1995, the
corporations that produce the majority of the organic food has been limited to approximately 15
(Remington, 2014).
Competitive Rivalry In the industry, competition is high in most areas of the United States. There are
usually two to three Supermarkets in a given location depending on the population. Whole Foods has
an advantage with the organic and natural food buying trends, but many other businesses in the
industry such as Kroger, Costco, etc. have taken notice to the trend.
Threat of Substitution Whole Foods Market has a great selection of natural and organic foods trending
previously mentioned. The threat of substitution is high though. One reason this is true is due to the
superstores such as Wal Mart and Target. Consumers can go to those stores to have a one store
shopping experience for everything from food to clothing. Also, though the revenue in the industry,
mostly goes to the top 50 stores, there still exists local markets and farmers that communities would
rather support over the larger stores such as Whole Foods in the area.
Analysis from Porter s Five Force From analysis of the force that affect the industry s businesses,
especially Whole Foods Market, include substitution of products, supplier power, and competitors.
There are many methods a consumer can

Autistic Children
troduction The autism spectral disorders are defined by the qualitative impairments in social
communication. Although the actual reason for autism is still unknown to the medical sciences; it has
been proved to be the result of abnormal and irregular growth of cerebral neurons of human brains.
People suffering from autism very often demonstrate a poor performance in social interactions; and
hence find it difficult to communicate to other people. On the other hand, it is equally difficult for
others to communicate to them in the usual ways. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) regarded as the
presence of three aspects of impairment, namely; social cognition, communication and imagination.

The term intelligibility refers to the proportion of a speaker s speech that a listener can readily
understand. Many of the autistic children suffer from speech unintelligibility. Although they can
produce sounds loud enough, the audience cannot get the meaning of those. Again, a good number of
autistic children can utter a word or two correctly but cannot make a full sentence. We address these
two vital problems of speech communication in this paper. Actually, there is no definite treatment for
autism. The best we can do is to help the autistic children in making proper social communication
being within their limitations. Computer games have recently been proved to be very powerful tools in
this regard We do not suggest replacing the traditional therapies by our game therapies; rather we
recommend introducing our games besides the traditional therapies for the best output.
The paper is organized as follows. We first discuss the related works about autism spectrum disorders
(ASDs). Then we demonstrate our first interactive e learning games for increasing intelligibility of the
autistic children with its software architecture and hardware and software requirements. Then we
discuss our next computer game which helps children from autism spectrum

Balanced Budget Amendment
As we discussed and read about this week in our class, the topic of the US Budget and how, why and
what should we do about it has become a topic with many views and opinions. The United States of
America currently holds over 16 Trillion dollars in debt based on our governments spending practices
for the last ten years. Two wars, numerous fiscal collapses and cliffs, a bubble popped housing market,
looming medical care costs from a socialized healthcare law and a recession have caused the
government to acquire enormous amounts of debt. This debt with caused by what seems to be from
irresponsible spending on both the Legislative and the Executive Branches have done nothing to
lessen this deficit. One idea that has been discussed not only in ... Show more content on

Proponents of these amendments also that running deficits over the long term or persistent deficits can
be dangerous as well. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of consumer
s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private capital goods . This
is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the future. Growing Federal Debt
can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of crises can occur when debt levels
become so large in relation to the economy s output that the government has difficulty selling it.
Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the governments ability to repay its debt and
refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often
leading to inflation, reduction in government services and programs and increased economic hardship
on its citizens. There are several good examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and
Greece. The US saw a version of this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt
and its credit worthiness reduced its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at
lower interests rates.
A federal Balanced Budget amendment based loosely on those instituted by the States of this country
has many benefits. One such advantage

The Genocide Is The Systematic Extermination Of An Entire...
A genocide is the systematic extermination of an entire social, racial, or political group or nation,
specifically those of a particular ethnicity. While the genocide in Cambodia is not as widely
recognized as that of Rwanda or the Holocaust, millions of Cambodian citizens were murdered
between the years of 1975 and 1979 under the control of the Khmer Rouge. The government
depopulated cities and forcibly relocated citizens to collective farms known as Killing Fields because
of the unspeakable amount of deaths of all ages that occurred there. Approximately 14,000 lives were
taken in these fields due to the stringent rules placed upon the citizens. The Khmer Rouge advocated
for social equality and transformed Cambodia into a pre industrialized nation centered around
agriculture. The loss of millions of lives led to significant demographic changes, ranging from an
increase in the amount of elderly, homeless citizens, and to a decrease in ethnic diversity across the
nation. The dictatorship simultaneously lessened the culture and identity of coming generations due to
the execution of artists and musicians who brought forth important aspects of tradition. The
destruction of infrastructure also contributed to the limitations of postwar Cambodia. In summary, The
Khmer Rouge carried out a genocide that strongly influenced the demographics, culture, and
infrastructure of Cambodian society.

A Battle Of Endings By James Cameron
Sundiata Short Essay Andrew Davis Professor Benander Topics in Literature 4 November 2012 A
Battle of Endings It is widely believed that the ending makes the story. What would Titanic, the movie
by James Cameron, be without its ending? In the epics of Kirikou and Sundiata, we see two distinctly
different endings that would cause different responses from different audiences. The Treatment of the
villain is significant in the end because it brings into question the judgment of the hero. Examining
how others respond to the shadow is important because it allows people to examine what they would
do to treat the shadow who wronged others. A modern teenage Disney audience would be more
satisfied with the treatment Sundiata gave to his enemies, because Sundiata tries his best to satisfy the
people who were affected by the rule of the shadow. Sundiata s treatment of the enemies should be
established before getting into the argument. Sundiata just wants the shadow out of the way of the
goal of the conquering Mali, but he tries to please his people, the maiden, in serving justice to the
Shadow. Some may argue that Sundiata really wanted to kill Soumaoro because of the treachery he
brought upon Mali. However, Sundiata proves that defeating Mali is more important than killing the
shadow when the book by D.T. Niane of the Longman African Writers states, Straight away the son of

park of Disney World, Joy realized her dream was really a reality and she shed tears of excitement.
Disney World is a magic kingdom full of people, buildings, song and dance, food like homemade
fudge, horse drawn street cars and horseless carriages, statues and Disney characters. Joys family
adventure began by entering through a tunnel just below a train station before they landed right in
front of cinderella s castle. Since the experience was nothing like what joy had even been through
before, she stood amazed as she viewed the castle she dreamed about living in, much like every other
girl. Six paths lead from several different angle around the castle spreading throughout the theme park.
One of the first attractions within Disney world that Joy and her family stopped at was the Swiss
Family Treehouse. The Swiss Family Treehouse was based on a 1960 s movie, Swiss Family
Robinson . The attraction is a large treehouse accessible for children and adults to climb and maneuver
through, but it is also the makeshift home of a shipwrecked family as portrayed in the movie. As Joy
entered the enormous treehouse she was lead to a narrow staircase that was the pathway to the dining
room, kitchen, and two bedrooms. The treehouse left Joy and her siblings

The Characteristics Of The Native Americans
Introduction Humans in nature are curious and this leads into finding or creating extraordinary things
that may one day be value or question by many. As early civilizations emerge, the beginning of many
wonders were developed and with great accuracy. Although there was a lack of technology, as we have
today, one wonders how some items may have been developed. The Native Americans are just one
particular example to analyze. Despite the lack of the tools we have today, their artwork is impeccable
and with great accuracy. Their art work and constructions leave one to ponder on how those items
were developed. Furthermore, one can also wonder on how records were kept. The number system
that we have today was not available to them. Yet, they were able to have some sense of counting. In
addition, Native Americans placed importance on specific numbers and this can be seen in both art
and their activities. Patterns and Shapes The need to create and construct goes far beyond what one
can imagine. It is in human nature to be curious and to develop or create based on the observations of
the world around us. In fact, shapes and patterns emerge in nature organically (Rudman 2007). Native
Americans development of geometric shapes is still a mystery to many. Yet, by analyzing the world
around us and trying to create based on observations and creativity leads into our desire to mimic
nature itself. Designs and patterns on everyday life items were utilized by Native

Private Ownership And The Natural Right Of Property...
Compare and contrast the account of the origins of private ownership Grotius gives in The Freedom of
the Sea (1609) with the one he gives in The Laws of War and Peace (1625). To what extent does
Grotius argue for the natural right of property ownership?

ECON32002 Property and Justice: From Grotius to Rawls
John Salter
30 March, 2015
Introduction
This paper aims to discuss private ownership and account for the origins of private ownership as well
as comparing and contrasting these accounts through the ideas of Grotius in his two publications; The
Freedom of the Sea (1609) and The Laws of War and Peace (1625). In addition, the paper aims to
discuss the extent to which Grotius argues for The Natural Right of Property Ownership.
Through studying these works of Grotius in the manner outlined above, it will become clear that the
overall idea is that the common ideology that private ownership means that owners can do whatever
they wish with what they own is incorrect. Both private and common ownership are established on the
right to alienate a thing regardless of the number of people that have possession of the thing. In the
case of common ownership social and legal norms can make the ownership of a thing subject to group
ownership. In the case of private ownership these social and legal norms are not applied although
things are owned. Regional social circumstances determine which type of ownership provides the
highest benefit to the owners where as

Comparing Scarface 1932 And Scarface 1983
Remakes of films are a common occurrence. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a
generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark
completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the
first of its kind in many respects while Scarface 1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these
films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and fall of
a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in the 1983
film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface 1932 was revolutionary in its
use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting conventions. The use of
symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the film that Scarface 1983 did not
have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was censorship. Each film had to be heavily
altered in some way in order for the public to view them. While neither film was truly in the
production code era each film felt the effects regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film,
but when compared to Scarface 1932 it pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur
so frequently, the answer that is found is nostalgia. Gangster films stem from nostalgia much like
westerns do however in both examples neither one is at all an accurate depiction of the time period.

Literary Analysis Of The Other Wes Moore
Textual Analysis of The Other Wes Moore In The Other Wes Moore, the author expresses the striking
similarities between him and another man with the same name. The two men are so similar, in fact,
that there are very few elements of their lives that set them apart, such as their family histories and
personal choices. In writing his book, the author has several target audiences in mind, from young
black men to young adults pursuing higher education and people in positions of power. Despite his
multiple target audiences, the author has one overall purpose for his book: to show what happens
when a person full of potential gives up hope. The story also goes further, showing the importance of
both family history and personal choice in the shaping of a person s future. The purpose of the story is
to show what a person could be if they live out their full potential, and what they could end up being if
they give up. The author remarks that the chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The
tragedy is that my story could have been his , indicating that had circumstances been different for
either man, their lives could have been even more similar (xi). The author is the man who lives to his
full potential, eventually receiving the Rhodes Scholarship and working for both the White House and
Wall Street (176). In contrast, the other Wes loses hope and allows himself to get caught up in the drug
game, resulting in him serving...a life sentence in jail (174). Both men

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hearing Aids
Hearing is a major and important sense in our lives which is why we have to take care of our hearing.
Many people are deaf and it can be caused by many different factors that can affect the hearing
strength of a person or individual, which is why hearing aids were invented. Over the past two
centuries hearing aids went through a great development and we are still using the outcomes of it till
today they provide us with many advantages, but as you know where there are advantages there are
disadvantages. They can benefit us with better hearing for those who can t hear very well.
The people who can t hear either partly or whole have deafness which can be defined as the inability
to hear either partly or entirely. Deafness is divided into three main types which are conductive
deafness, which means that sound cannot flow freely into the middle ear. The second type is
Sensorineural deafness which means that there is a problem in the auditory nerve or the cochlea. And
finally the neural deafness, which means that there is no auditory nerve. It is important to specify if a
child has deafness or hearing loss or even a toddler because the sooner anything ... Show more content

Another way to treat deafness to a degree is using hearing aids which work as an amplifier for the
sound it receives and sends it into the brain. And for those who don t have hearing problems it is still
beneficial to protect your hearing from being damaged, you can do this by not exposing yourselves to
loud noises and even music to protect your hair cells from washing away. Also if you work in a place
or be at a place with loud noises make sure you have hearing protection to reduce the noise exposed to

Essay On Jacob Riis
Jacob
Riis was born on May 3, 1849 in Ribe, Denmark and later immigrated to the
United States in 1870 at the age of 21. When he arrived in New York city he had a total of only $40
and a locket that he had for as long as he can remember
(study.com). He did a lot of odd jobs around the city to earn just enough money to get by. Soon there
later he became a police reporter and found an interest in the things that he saw. So he taught himself
some photography skills and took a camera with him every time that he walked the streets. His belief
was that a picture was worth 1,000 words so experimenting in the new field of photography. He

He believed that it was morally wrong to have children in the work force epically one s working with
such harsh and dangerous conditions. So he protested and fought to get companies to get rid of all

United states. His stance was that a child should experience childhood and have fun because it was the
only chance they will have. Childhood was definitely not trying to be an adult in the work force to
help their family survive. After all, they got paid less than half of the adults and had to fix the small
parts on dangerous machinery because, they were the only ones small enough to do the job. This was a
terrible thought for Riis to imagine so he did what he had to do.
Jacob Riis also had very strong religious beliefs that he followed throughout his lifetime. Before Riis

First Past The Post-Voting System
This essay explains four potential concerns about the American electoral system. First, this essay
provides a summary of our current voting system. Next, this essay explains four problems with First
Past the Post Voting System. Finally, this essay explains the most democracy distorting concern, the
electoral college.
Summary of the Current Voting System: First Past the Post
The current voting system that is used in America, is the First Past the Post Voting (FPTP) System.
There are two basic rules that ensure a winner in this voting system. This first rule is that there is only
one vote per citizen and the second rule is that who ever gets the most votes during the election, wins
or is elected president.
Concern One: Minority Rules The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Concern Three: Gerrymandering The third concern with the FPTP Voting System is that creates
gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is the redrawing of electoral boundaries in order to increase a
candidate s chance of winning an election (The Problems with FPTP Voting Explained Video). When
the population has moved and grown, to better represent the largest population, there is a redrawing of
electoral boundaries. However, for a price one can turn a land slide victory by the way boundaries are
set up (Gerrymandering Explained Video). By packing a majority of one group together, and
spreading the rest out, it guarantees a win for one party.
Concern Four: The Spoiler Effect The fourth concern with FPTP Voting is the Spoiler Effect . After a
candidate has been in office for multiple years, it is difficult for other candidates to enter the race. The
better a third party candidate does, the more it hurts its own voters by guaranteeing loss for the party
they most agree with and a win for the party they most disagree with (The Problems with First Past the
Post Voting Explained Video). The First Past the Post Voting (FPTP) System is not susceptible to new
candidates (The Problems with FPTP Voting Explained

The Effects Of Prenatal Care On Children
Discussion
Traditionally, pregnancy is a celebrated occasion but for women who live in poverty this life changing
event can be wrought with uncertainty and apprehension. Typically, new mothers living in poverty are
most likely already facing multiple stressors such as unemployment, unfavorable living conditions,
substandard environment and threats of violence. Additionally, the increased physical demands and
need for supplemental financial resources consistent with a new pregnancy are more likely to leave a
mother living in poverty feeling overwhelmed and depressed. One of the ways expanded Medicaid
coverage can reduce this burden is by facilitating improved access to medical care for both the mother
and her unborn child.
Multiple definitive studies have proven that mothers who have access to adequate prenatal care have
fewer miscarriages, less birth defects and give birth to healthier babies. The United States, despite
being one of the richest countries in the world has a lower rate of infant survival when compared to
other developed nations and decreased access to prenatal care exacerbates this statistic. Prenatal care
not only gives new mothers access to medical, education and nutritional resources but serves an
opportunity to identify babies at risk for delivering preterm or suffer from low birth weight (Alexander
Cornely, 1986). Data derived from the 1980 National Natality Survey associated a higher instance of
low birth weight with inadequate prenatal

President Abraham Lincoln, An Innovator And The Only...
Encourage Innovation President Abraham Lincoln once advised George McClellan, if we never try,
we shall never succeed (Phillips, 1992). Lincoln was an innovator and the only American president to
hold a patent. He constantly pushed his generals during the Civil War to move the war effort forward
and he considered mistakes to be learning events, or steps in the right direction (Phillips, 1992). In
addition to encouraging his generals, Lincoln personally sought out new weapons such as repeating
rifles and other equipment. Lincoln s desire for an advancing and innovative army was critical to the
survival of the union. In my professional career, I find myself frequently asking my subordinates can
we do better? Typically, when I ask that question, I have already answered it my own head, yes.
However, at times, I get asked that same question by my boss, and become annoyed. I quickly come to
the realization that the answer to his question is also a yes, and I somehow missed it. Like Lincoln, I
am reminded that the best leaders never stop learning and if we never try, we will never succeed.
Learning is a critical part of innovation. I am blessed to work for a supervisor who has many great
leadership characteristics. I consider Chief Michael Haworth a mentor who has instilled many of the
same characteristics in me over the years. Assistant Chief Michael Haworth has secured the support
and funding to allow our agency to innovate technologically over the

How Did Hamilton Influence George Washington
Ellis seems to be biased in his writing. He tries to be objective when explaining the relationship of
Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, by detailing Hamilton s concerns about Burr s character during a
time period where it mattered. Unlike the other figures mentioned later it is hard to contort the
perspective of Burr into a leader that needs to be revered. Ellis does however show that Burr and
Hamilton were very much alike and that many of the other political pioneers had legitimate concerns
about Hamilton s character. That is where the objectivity ends however. To Ellis, George Washington
is the catalyst that sparked the success of the country. Despite outlining his physical flaws, Ellis
believes that Washington had a vision of what the nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not the case with Jefferson s presidency. Despite it being barely mentioned, Ellis says that
Jefferson s first term would go down as one of the most brilliantly successful in American history.
This statement implies that this success had nothing to do with Jefferson or his actions, but just
happens to be how history remembered it. Ellis goes on to state that his second term proved to be a
series of domestic tribulations and foreign policy failures. This appears confusing as he tells the reader
that Adams is not to blame for his mistakes, but Jefferson s failures fall solely on him. At this point,
Ellis throws in Adams s quote on Jefferson by noting that Jefferson was an elegant stylist, to be sure . .
. But he was not a mover and shaker, only a draftsman. This seems an odd point for Ellis to make as
the books focus is on Jefferson s efforts to eliminate Adams and the Federalists and to have his version
of history emerge as the one

  • 2. Italian American Attitudes Towards Speech Summary Italian American attitudes towards speech not only is representative of their family orientated culture, but also for the role oral traditions as a medium for providing younger generations the necessary values and beliefs to thrive in what otherwise was a foreign society with different ideologies. Throughout Mount Allegro, Mangione repeatedly talks about the idea of second generation Italian immigrants being able to speak the parent s language, or mother tongue, Italian (Mangione 20 and 49 50). His mother, who reinforced the rule of only speaking Italian in the household, emphasizes the importance of being able to communicate in a language shared by everyone in the household: I don t want to hear anything but Italian in his house. You will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Italian American attitudes towards speech are often taught through descent, by lessons told from older generations. One such lesson is the idea of never telling others about one s own problems or family problems. Particularly relevant in Mangione s anecdote about Comare Alfreda and Compare Calogero, in which Comare Alfreda discusses Compare Calogero s philandering to Jerre s mother (Mangione 168). As discussion of Compare Calogero s philandering to others could result in others, especially women, paying more attention to Compare Calogero, this could have resulted in Comare Alfreda s problems from coming true, emphasizing the sense of vulnerability when one reveals too much information. This particularly becomes relevant, as Mangione states that eventually the details of the story soon got around to [his] relatives (Mangione 180). In addition to keeping quiet about one s own problems, the idea of omereta, the oath of silence, is also a practice passed down through descent, due to the older generation s lack of faith in the law (Mangione ... • 3. Hurricane Comme Essay Hurricane Cosme can be traced to a tropical wave that formed on the west coast of Africa on or around June 8. That westward moving wave, which was also responsible for the formation of Tropical Storm Barry in the Caribbean Sea, eventually reached the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The progress of the wave was slowed by a southwesterly movement within the Intertropical Convergence Zone.[10] During the morning hours of June 20, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) began monitoring a broad area of disturbed weather several hundred miles southeast of Acapulco, Mexico.[11] Assessed with a low chance of tropical cyclone formation within a two day interval, conditions at the time were unfavorable but expected to become more conducive for development over subsequent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A large area of very cold cloud tops developed over and just southeast of the center of the storm, and convective banding wrapping into the mass began to form, mainly in the north and east semicircles. [18] Though the cloud pattern became elongated north to south during the pre dawn hours of the following day,[19] a rapid improvement of the inner core on microwave and the structure on satellite imagery became apparent. A timely AMSU pass indicated an eyewall nearly closed with an accompanying intensity estimate of 77 mph (124 km/h), and a transient eye became visible on early morning satellite images. As a result, the National Hurricane Center upgraded Cosme to a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir Simpson hurricane wind scale.[20] Given the light wind shear, warm sea surface temperature, and moist air environment, the agency predicted further intensification for the following hours, and the system attained its peak intensity with winds of 85 mph (140 km/h) and a minimum barometric pressure of 981 mbar (hPa; 28.97 inHg) late on June 25.[21] Thereafter, a result of cooler sea surface temperatures forecast several days in advance, convection on the west side of the circulation center began to erode significantly.[22] The tropical storm wind radii expanded the following morning, but the inner core of Cosme, specifically the ... • 4. Black Friday Essay How far do sources 11 12 challenge the view presented in source 10 about the conduct of the police on Black Friday? The three sources to be compared are all in relation to the events that occurred on Black Friday , particularly surrounding the conduct of the metropolitan police. Source 10, taken from The Times newspaper presents the view that the police were more victims of the women and raiders that they were trying to control, and that it took some effort to restrain the women that were protesting on that day. Whereas source 11, taken from a memorandum that was sent to the home office after Black Friday gives the view that the police were acting violently towards the women protesting and that the women in this situation were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Source 11 on the other hand disagrees with the view presented in source source 10. It is an extract from a memorandum by the Parliamentary Conciliation Committee for Women s Suffrage send to the Home Office after Black Friday . It agrees with the source ten in the sense that it admits a relentless struggle occurred between the police and the suffragettes, but it disagrees with source 10 because it presents the view that it was the police acting violently towards the women, who it says were flung hither and thither amid moving traffic, and into the hands of a crows which was sometimes rough and indecent . This opinion is presented because the purpose of the memorandum sent to the home office was to request a public inquiry into the conduct of the police on Black Friday , because they did not follow their usual course of action which would have been to arrest the women on a charge of obstruction but they had been instructed to avoid, as far as possible, making any arrests which is why, the women argue that the police were so violent. • 5. Iron Curtain Speech Research Paper The Cold War was the state of tension between democratic nations and the communist Soviet Union. There were two opposing groups in the group. The United States and their allies formed NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and the Soviet Union and their allies formed the Warsaw Pact. The NATO was formed to stop the progression of communism throughout countries and the Warsaw Pact wanted to take over countries to spread communism. The Cold War lasted from 1945 to 1992. 1940 s Hiroshima A Bomb August 6, 1945 Before the First World War, German scientists James Franck and Gustav Hertz conducted experiments where they added electrons to Mercury atoms. They traced the energy changes that the collision caused. That experiment led Nils Bohr to make a theory that an atom can absorb energy in precise and definite amounts. After that experiment, many other scientists conducted research on radioactive methods to chemical problems and conducted more experiments on how elements would react when elements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Churchill using the term Iron Curtain was iconic. The term became a part of the vocabulary used when talking about Cold War. The speech was used to confirm the relationship with Britain and the United States (forming an alliance). The speech was a warning of the danger that was the Soviet Union and Communism. By giving the speech let the public know the dangers of the Soviet Union. I think the Iron Curtain Speech speech was really interesting. I found myself to get lost while watching the video of the speech as I was getting information about the topic. I think it was important for the speech to be given. I don t have any other solution for the speech because it didn t affect anyone in a negative way (unlike the A Bomb). Overall, I enjoyed reading about the topic and how it set the beginning of the Cold War. 1960 s Gulf of Tonkin Resolution August 7, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leandro was born April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. His hometown was within the territory of the the republic of Florence under the rule of Medici. He was born out of wedlock, and his parents were Caterina and Messer Piero Fruosino Di Vinci. Leandro died May 2, 1519 at his residence at Clos Luce. There are few documents on Leandro early years. • 7. Current Approacheses To Targeting And The Current... Current Approaches of targeting As increasing data is coming forward confirming the role of Jak STAT pathway in several autoimmune disorders and malignancies, this pathway is attracting substantial attention as a potential therapeutic target. Explained below are the FDA approved Jak inhibitors also commonly known as Jakinibs. Tofacitinib As the first selective Janus kinase inhibitor to be approved in humans, Tofacitinib garnered immense interest from the scientific community. Jak3 s essential function in lymphocytes makes it an attractive therapeutic target since its deficiency does not affect non immunologic tissues. As a result, tofacitinib inhibits Jak1 and to a certain extent JAK2. Since this encompasses a much broader spectrum of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ruxolitinib Ruxolitinib is the first FDA approved Jakinib. It acts by potent inhibition of Jak1 and Jak2. Initially it was approved for intermediate and high risk primary myelofibrosis after witnessing the therapeutic efficacy in COMFORT I and COMFORT II trials. Effect seen was irrelevant of Jak2V617F mutations. Preliminary results in models studying efficacy of ruxolotinib in psoriasis and in RA have been encouraging. Studies are currently being conducted to study effect on polycythemia vera, malignancies and alopecia areata (20). Second generation Jakinibs Almost 25 Jakinibs are currently being tested for efficacy in diseases ranging from malignancies, to a host of autoimmune disorders (Table 1). The initial Jakinibs approved by FDA are relatively non selective and inhibit a broad spectrum of cytokines and interferons. Some of them are also included in ongoing clinical trials. Baricitinib acts by blocking the subtypes Jak1 and Jak2 and as of February 2017 has been approved in the EU as second line therapy for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis either alone or in conjunction with methotrexate (21). • 8. Explore How Ian Mcmillan Conveys His Attitudes Towards the... McMillan uses harsh words throughout the poem to show his grief and remorse at his mothers death. Words like shatters link with how he is feeling, like everything is broken and cannot be repaired. This word makes us imagine something broken into lots of tiny pieces which can t be put back together again, and it helps us to understand how broken and jumbled up he is feeling. The word slap when talking about the tears (that) slap my torn face insinuates the idea that he is in physical pain, that the emotional pain he feels is is so strong that he physically hurts. In the first stanza, we find out about his mothers death. Enjambment is used to speed up the pace of the poem, and show how quickly someone s whole live can change, like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McMillan describes his tears to slap his torn face ; as well as slap being a raw and aggressive word, the way he describes his face as torn perhaps suggests that it was his mother who held him together, and now, without her, he is broken. This helps us to realise how important his mother was to him, which makes us sympathise for him a lot and evokes a feeling of empathy when we put ourselves in his position. McMillan says he feels trapped , like he is trapped by his own emotion and although it s up to him to find a way out of this dark place, he can t see an escape. This shows how alone and scared he is feeling knowing his motherr is no longer around and also makes us think how panicked he must be feeling, as we would be if we were trapped somewhere. The word float makes us think that McMillan is no longer in control of his emotions, that what he is feeling is unstoppable, but also it instigates the sense that nothing seems quite normal around him, and that he is detached from reality. The final stanza is a rhyming couplet that summarises the grief and emptiness and the lack of will to go on without his mother. Feeling that the story ends just here conveys the idea that there isn t a story to continue without his mother, showing how depressed McMillan is feeling, like he has reached a dead end in his ... Introduction This journal explained how to bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory. Myers wrote this journal to explain why finance analysis had only slight impact on strategic planning, even though strategic planning needs finance. Strategic and financial analysis are not reconciled. When low net present value (NPV) projects are nurtured for strategic reasons, the strategic analysis overrides measures of financial value, and vice versa. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is also a lesson for current appli cations of finance theory to strategic is sues. Several new approaches to financial strategy use a simple, traditional DCF model of the firm, [For example, Fruhan 1979, Ch. 2]. These approaches are likely to be more useful for cash cows than for growth businesses with substantial risk and intangible assets. The option value of growth and intangibles is not ignored by good managers even when conventional financial techniques miss them. These values may be brought in as strategic factors, dressed in non financial clothes. Dealing with the time series links between capital investments, and with the option value these links create, is often left to strategic planners. But new developments in finance theory promise to help. Conclusion Myers argued that the standard discounted cash flow techniques will tend to understate the option value attached to growing, profitable lines of business. To bridge the gap between strategic planning and finance theory, Myers suggested that the financial theorist need to apply existing finance theory correctly and extend the theory on real option pricing to model time series interactions between investments. Since a large number of 81 companies in 1995, the corporations that produce the majority of the organic food has been limited to approximately 15 (Remington, 2014). Competitive Rivalry In the industry, competition is high in most areas of the United States. There are usually two to three Supermarkets in a given location depending on the population. Whole Foods has an advantage with the organic and natural food buying trends, but many other businesses in the industry such as Kroger, Costco, etc. have taken notice to the trend. Threat of Substitution Whole Foods Market has a great selection of natural and organic foods trending previously mentioned. The threat of substitution is high though. One reason this is true is due to the superstores such as Wal Mart and Target. Consumers can go to those stores to have a one store shopping experience for everything from food to clothing. Also, though the revenue in the industry, mostly goes to the top 50 stores, there still exists local markets and farmers that communities would rather support over the larger stores such as Whole Foods in the area. The United States of America currently holds over 16 Trillion dollars in debt based on our governments spending practices for the last ten years. Two wars, numerous fiscal collapses and cliffs, a bubble popped housing market, looming medical care costs from a socialized healthcare law and a recession have caused the government to acquire enormous amounts of debt. Proponents of these amendments also that running deficits over the long term or persistent deficits can be dangerous as well. When the government runs persistent deficits , a increasing portion of consumer s savings is used to purchase government debt instead of being invested in private capital goods . This is called crowding out , and this effect lower output and incomes in the future. Growing Federal Debt can lead to a sudden fiscal crisis in and of itself. This type of crises can occur when debt levels become so large in relation to the economy s output that the government has difficulty selling it. Current and potential bondholders lose confidence with the governments ability to repay its debt and refuse to buy anymore. The government is then forced purchase new debt at higher interest rates, often leading to inflation, reduction in government services and programs and increased economic hardship on its citizens. There are several good examples of this type of debt crisis in Argentina, Mexico and Greece. The US saw a version of this in 2011, when S amp;P concerned with the US climbing debt and its credit worthiness reduced its credit rating or the ability of the country to borrow money at lower interests rates. A genocide is the systematic extermination of an entire social, racial, or political group or nation, specifically those of a particular ethnicity. While the genocide in Cambodia is not as widely recognized as that of Rwanda or the Holocaust, millions of Cambodian citizens were murdered between the years of 1975 and 1979 under the control of the Khmer Rouge. The government depopulated cities and forcibly relocated citizens to collective farms known as Killing Fields because of the unspeakable amount of deaths of all ages that occurred there. Approximately 14,000 lives were taken in these fields due to the stringent rules placed upon the citizens. The Khmer Rouge advocated for social equality and transformed Cambodia into a pre industrialized nation centered around agriculture. The loss of millions of lives led to significant demographic changes, ranging from an increase in the amount of elderly, homeless citizens, and to a decrease in ethnic diversity across the nation. The dictatorship simultaneously lessened the culture and identity of coming generations due to the execution of artists and musicians who brought forth important aspects of tradition. A Battle Of Endings By James Cameron Sundiata Short Essay Andrew Davis Professor Benander Topics in Literature 4 November 2012 A Battle of Endings It is widely believed that the ending makes the story. What would Titanic, the movie by James Cameron, be without its ending? In the epics of Kirikou and Sundiata, we see two distinctly different endings that would cause different responses from different audiences. The Treatment of the villain is significant in the end because it brings into question the judgment of the hero. Examining how others respond to the shadow is important because it allows people to examine what they would do to treat the shadow who wronged others. A modern teenage Disney audience would be more satisfied with the treatment Sundiata gave to his enemies, because Sundiata tries his best to satisfy the people who were affected by the rule of the shadow. Sundiata s treatment of the enemies should be established before getting into the argument. Sundiata just wants the shadow out of the way of the goal of the conquering Mali, but he tries to please his people, the maiden, in serving justice to the Shadow. Some may argue that Sundiata really wanted to kill Soumaoro because of the treachery he brought upon Mali. However, Sundiata proves that defeating Mali is more important than killing the shadow when the book by D.T. The night before, Joy and all of her siblings decided swimming and playing on the play grounds was the way to occupy their time. Tuesday morning the family woke up at 8:00 a.m. and ate a quick breakfast prior to beginning their short journey to the Disney World theme park. All of the children, including Joy were extremely excited to arrive at Disney World because it would be their first time. They left the campground at about 9:00 a.m. and arrived at Disney World at approximately 9:45 a.m. When the family arrived at the theme park, it took them nearly 20 minutes to locate a parking space and enter the park. During the entire drive to Disney World Joy thought it was all just a dream. But, upon arriving to the actual theme park of Disney World, Joy realized her dream was really a reality and she shed tears of excitement. Disney World is a magic kingdom full of people, buildings, song and dance, food like homemade fudge, horse drawn street cars and horseless carriages, statues and Disney characters. The Characteristics Of The Native Americans Introduction Humans in nature are curious and this leads into finding or creating extraordinary things that may one day be value or question by many. As early civilizations emerge, the beginning of many wonders were developed and with great accuracy. Although there was a lack of technology, as we have today, one wonders how some items may have been developed. The Native Americans are just one particular example to analyze. Despite the lack of the tools we have today, their artwork is impeccable and with great accuracy. Their art work and constructions leave one to ponder on how those items were developed. Furthermore, one can also wonder on how records were kept. The number system that we have today was not available to them. Yet, they were able to have some sense of counting. In addition, Native Americans placed importance on specific numbers and this can be seen in both art and their activities. Patterns and Shapes The need to create and construct goes far beyond what one can imagine. It is in human nature to be curious and to develop or create based on the observations of the world around us. In fact, shapes and patterns emerge in nature organically (Rudman 2007). To what extent does Grotius argue for the natural right of property ownership? 8150842 ECON32002 Property and Justice: From Grotius to Rawls John Salter 30 March, 2015 Introduction This paper aims to discuss private ownership and account for the origins of private ownership as well as comparing and contrasting these accounts through the ideas of Grotius in his two publications; The Freedom of the Sea (1609) and The Laws of War and Peace (1625). In addition, the paper aims to discuss the extent to which Grotius argues for The Natural Right of Property Ownership. Through studying these works of Grotius in the manner outlined above, it will become clear that the overall idea is that the common ideology that private ownership means that owners can do whatever they wish with what they own is incorrect. Both private and common ownership are established on the right to alienate a thing regardless of the number of people that have possession of the thing. In the case of common ownership social and legal norms can make the ownership of a thing subject to group ownership. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the first of its kind in many respects while Scarface 1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and fall of a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in the 1983 film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface 1932 was revolutionary in its use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting conventions. The use of symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the film that Scarface 1983 did not have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was censorship. Each film had to be heavily altered in some way in order for the public to view them. While neither film was truly in the production code era each film felt the effects regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film, but when compared to Scarface 1932 it pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur so frequently, the answer that is found is nostalgia. Gangster films stem from nostalgia much like westerns do however in both examples neither one is at all an accurate depiction of the time period. Many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literary Analysis Of The Other Wes Moore Textual Analysis of The Other Wes Moore In The Other Wes Moore, the author expresses the striking similarities between him and another man with the same name. The two men are so similar, in fact, that there are very few elements of their lives that set them apart, such as their family histories and personal choices. In writing his book, the author has several target audiences in mind, from young black men to young adults pursuing higher education and people in positions of power. Despite his multiple target audiences, the author has one overall purpose for his book: to show what happens when a person full of potential gives up hope. The story also goes further, showing the importance of both family history and personal choice in the shaping of a person s future. The purpose of the story is to show what a person could be if they live out their full potential, and what they could end up being if they give up. The author remarks that the chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his , indicating that had circumstances been different for either man, their lives could have been even more similar (xi). The author is the man who lives to his full potential, eventually receiving the Rhodes Scholarship and working for both the White House and Wall Street (176). • 31. The Effects Of Prenatal Care On Children Discussion Traditionally, pregnancy is a celebrated occasion but for women who live in poverty this life changing event can be wrought with uncertainty and apprehension. Typically, new mothers living in poverty are most likely already facing multiple stressors such as unemployment, unfavorable living conditions, substandard environment and threats of violence. Additionally, the increased physical demands and need for supplemental financial resources consistent with a new pregnancy are more likely to leave a mother living in poverty feeling overwhelmed and depressed. One of the ways expanded Medicaid coverage can reduce this burden is by facilitating improved access to medical care for both the mother and her unborn child. Multiple definitive studies have proven that mothers who have access to adequate prenatal care have fewer miscarriages, less birth defects and give birth to healthier babies. The United States, despite being one of the richest countries in the world has a lower rate of infant survival when compared to other developed nations and decreased access to prenatal care exacerbates this statistic. Prenatal care not only gives new mothers access to medical, education and nutritional resources but serves an opportunity to identify babies at risk for delivering preterm or suffer from low birth weight (Alexander Cornely, 1986). Data derived from the 1980 National Natality Survey associated a higher instance of low birth weight with inadequate prenatal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. President Abraham Lincoln, An Innovator And The Only... Encourage Innovation President Abraham Lincoln once advised George McClellan, if we never try, we shall never succeed (Phillips, 1992). Lincoln was an innovator and the only American president to hold a patent. He constantly pushed his generals during the Civil War to move the war effort forward and he considered mistakes to be learning events, or steps in the right direction (Phillips, 1992). In addition to encouraging his generals, Lincoln personally sought out new weapons such as repeating rifles and other equipment. Lincoln s desire for an advancing and innovative army was critical to the survival of the union. In my professional career, I find myself frequently asking my subordinates can we do better? Typically, when I ask that question, I have already answered it my own head, yes. However, at times, I get asked that same question by my boss, and become annoyed. I quickly come to the realization that the answer to his question is also a yes, and I somehow missed it. Like Lincoln, I am reminded that the best leaders never stop learning and if we never try, we will never succeed. Learning is a critical part of innovation. I am blessed to work for a supervisor who has many great leadership characteristics. I consider Chief Michael Haworth a mentor who has instilled many of the same characteristics in me over the years. Assistant Chief Michael Haworth has secured the support and funding to allow our agency to innovate technologically over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. How Did Hamilton Influence George Washington Ellis seems to be biased in his writing. He tries to be objective when explaining the relationship of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, by detailing Hamilton s concerns about Burr s character during a time period where it mattered. Unlike the other figures mentioned later it is hard to contort the perspective of Burr into a leader that needs to be revered. Ellis does however show that Burr and Hamilton were very much alike and that many of the other political pioneers had legitimate concerns about Hamilton s character. That is where the objectivity ends however. To Ellis, George Washington is the catalyst that sparked the success of the country. Despite outlining his physical flaws, Ellis believes that Washington had a vision of what the nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not the case with Jefferson s presidency. Despite it being barely mentioned, Ellis says that Jefferson s first term would go down as one of the most brilliantly successful in American history. This statement implies that this success had nothing to do with Jefferson or his actions, but just happens to be how history remembered it. Ellis goes on to state that his second term proved to be a series of domestic tribulations and foreign policy failures. This appears confusing as he tells the reader that Adams is not to blame for his mistakes, but Jefferson s failures fall solely on him. At this point, Ellis throws in Adams s quote on Jefferson by noting that Jefferson was an elegant stylist, to be sure . . . But he was not a mover and shaker, only a draftsman. This seems an odd point for Ellis to make as the books focus is on Jefferson s efforts to eliminate Adams and the Federalists and to have his version of history emerge as the one ...
