2. Examples Of Learned Helplessness
Since childhood Sandra had experienced numerous difficulties in her life, began by
her father who was continuously abusing her in different ways, his actions had
developed a sense of helplessness inside of her that stayed with her for many years
to follow at the age of 22 Sandra got married to her husband who at first seemed to
be a man of well manners, but it was proven later on that he was completely the
opposite of her expectations, besides he had also created an abusive unhealthy
environment for her which has further increased her level of helplessness. Learned
helplessness is defined as the inability to take control over one s life due to a
previous lack of control in important life outcomes (manyu li ,vaishali mardhekar, alka

for the emotional numbing and maladaptive passivity sometimes following
victimization . Victims suffering in certain situation assume that there is no freedom

A person should have enough will power to quite an activity or walk away from a
situation which puts them under stress or gives them depression. A state of mind
which stops them from rescuing themselves is known as learned helplessness . It
could make a person have a perspective that they no control or power to change
their current stressful situation to a better situation (bronwyn harris 9 oct 2014)
Some people use the mechanism of learned helplessness to deal with painful
situations. For example a child who is been abused by their guardian and a partner
who is been abused by their other half will adapt the behavior of being submissive
and accommodating to their abuser s behaviour ,as they feel that they cannot fight
with the situation and escaping from it is impossible.(bronwyn harris 9 oct

childhood living with her family on the prairie. Her stories and legacy will always
be an inspiration to people everywhere, including myself. Laura once said, It is the

The moment a reader opens a book, they invest their trust solely into the narrator,
depending on them for a truthful, accurate and impartial portrayal of events and
characters within the story. Edith Wharton, in the Introduction to her work Ethan
Frome, claims that the narrator of her story is capable of seeing all around and is the
sympathizing intermediary between his rudimentary characters, and the more
complicated minds to whom he is trying to present them (viii). This is not an accurate
description of her narrator, for he lacks credible sources and includes Ethan s personal
bias in his account of Starkfield and its inhabitants. In the story of Ethan Frome, the
narrator, who remains anonymous for the entirety of the tale, obtains

Leadership Styles:
Autocratic Leadership Style
This is the type of leadership exhibits by dictators. A leader exerts high levels of
power over his or her followers. An autocratic leader gives his or her idea which
the team must follow. He or she has no time for deliberations on others ideas before
chosing one. In autocracy, time wasting in long deliberations is reduced but most
followers will not like being treated as bench warmers without having anything to
contribute. For leading unskilled workers who do not have any skill about a job, this
leadership style is appropriate.

leader. He puts the structure in place for team members to work and satisfy their
requirements as far as they are getting results. He does not want to understand why

Transactional Leadership Style
This is the type of leadership in which rewards are measured by performance. This
leadership style believes fingers are not equal and deals with individuals team
members according to their performance. Good performances are rewarded while
poor performances are punished. Transactional leadership does not consider his or
her surbodinates as members of his or her team but as workers who must be managed

7. Specific Heat Lab Report
Have you ever wondered why a fire burns orange, or why a lighter burns blue towards
the bottom of the flame? If we take a quick step back, this is mostly due to a
chemical reaction that is known as the specific heat . This must be achieved (as
well as the other two properties that every fire is required to possess in order to burn)
in order for a flameto become present. After this specific heat is reached, a chemical
reaction occurs and turns the fuel source of the fireinto a vapor. The aspects that are
required for a flame to be created are a heat source, some sort of fuel, as well as
some sort of oxidizing agent. The only way that a change in flame color can be
observed is by manipulating the fuel source. After we manipulate the source
8. Textual Analysis Of The Movie Bye Birdie
In the beginning of the film the audience is first welcome with Rose Perez (Tina)
dancing against the back drop of Brooklyn brownstone stairs. This is supported by
the film theme song Fight the Power by Public enemy which is heard blaring in the
background while the character is dancing. The tone of the song seems quite
aggressive if not rebellious, this was due to the fact that the song was going to be
used as a leitmotif throughout the filmsimilar to other films like Indian jones (Steven
Spielberg) and even under the skin (Jonathan Glazer).
It was said that Spike Lee gained his stylistic inspiration from films Bye Bye birdie

9. The Importance Of Free Will In Macbeth
So the important question is do we determine what happens to us (free will) or is
everything is predetermined (destiny)? Do you make your own choices or do you
let life happen as it is? You always hear people talk about them being destined to be
with this person or they are destined to do this or be this or even do this career . If
we do not make certain choices we will never become anything so how is that destiny
? Even if there is a such thing as destiny, we have the free willto change it.
Body Paragraph 1:
Everyone has a choice to do what they think is right or what gives them what they
want which is their free will. For example, in Macbeth, he thinks he is going to be
king because the witches predicted it, with his free will, he killed Duncan. This
quote shows where he decided to kill Duncan If it were done when tis done, then
twere well
It were done quickly: if the assassination
Could trammel up the consequence, and catch
With his surcease success; that but this blow
Might be the be all and the end all here . In Macbeth, the witches tell Macbeth he s
going to become King, however the current King is still alive, so he had the choice
to wait it out or to kill the current king and his successors. This shows what destiny
has predicted, but in Macbeth s free will he did something different because of
ambition. We see even if things are predicted we choose rather to be what is
predicted or not which is your free will. After all, if everything is
10. Examples Of Scapegoat In Animal Farm
Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove man from the scene, and root cause
of hunger and overwork is abolished forever, (Orwell 7), says Old Major, the twelve
year old pig. In the book, Animal Farm by George Orwell, an enemy and a
scapegoat are necessary in a revolution. They give an individual a cause to fight for,
changing their way of thinking. The humans are the enemies of the animals. After
defeating the humans, the began blaming all the misfortunes on the scapegoat,
Snowball. The animals complain about not getting enough food and having to work
too much. Old Major says, All men are enemies. all animals are comrades
(Orwell11). Even though the animals say all men are enemies, they are pointing
more towards the farmers, especially Mr.Jones. He controls the animals actions and
what they receive. Snowball is very helpful to the animals, while they fight against
the humans. Orwell writes, Snowball, who had studied an old book by Julius Caesar
s campaigns which he had found in the farmhouse, was in charge of defensive
operations (40). This shows that snowball was one of the smarter and trusted animals
at the farm.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

animals. The reason this is happening is, because they have defeated the farmer and
the rest of the men. So, they need someone else to blame things on. Squealer also

that snowball s part was much exaggerated (Orwell55). THey say that from the
beginning Snowball was fighting for the humans, when in reality everything he has

11. Analysis Of Rescued From The Reich By Bryan Rigg
In chapter three of the book, Rescued from the Reich, Bryan Rigg showcases a
glimpse into what life was like for the Jewish population in Warsaw, Poland during
the month of September, 1939. The chapter examines many horrifying experiences
the Jews faced, the role that God played in their lives, and how the Nazis were able
to take over Poland in a month s time. Furthermore, Rigg puts great focus on a key
person in the chapter, the Rebbe, who influenced the lives of many Jews. Through all
the chaos that consumed Warsaw, the Rebbe continued to teach the Jews to stay
true to their beliefs. Throughout chapter three of the book, Bryan Rigg evaluates
the events that take place throughout the Jews journey when Poland is at war with
the Nazis and how the Rebbe played a major role in the Jews lives. The point of
view that the author, Bryan Rigg, takes on is an objective perspective. The authors
point of view is objective because he is just stating facts that took place during a
specific time period in history. Additionally, the author does not include any bias or
skepticism in the reading. Furthermore, the fact that his reading does not include any
of his own emotions, feelings, or opinion backs up the idea that his point of view is
from an objective perspective. The author uses biblical quotations from the Rebbe
and facts to reinforce his main points. He also focuses on one main thread that he
incorporates into the reading throughout the chapter. This thread would be the huge
role that God played in the Jews life and how it helped them get through hard times
while the Nazis were bombing and invading Warsaw.
The chapter starts out describing the terror of war and the beginning of what would
become known as a tragic time period in history. Germany invaded Otwock, Poland
on September 1, 1939. Early that morning bombs were dropped awakening the
frightened yeshiva students of Otwock (p38). The students rushed to the Rebbe for
instructions on what to do from there and he instructed them to leave for Latvia,
which was a neutral country nearby. In addition, he informed them to not be afraid
because God will always protect them (p38). This context of the reading shows how
people looked up to the Rebbe by coming to him for

The Battle of Bataan was a significant turning point battle in the war for the
Americans and the Japanese. The battle was fought from January 7, 1942 to April 9,

Axis powers who were commanded by Lieutenant General Masaharu Homma. The
Allied powers started out strong with 79,500 armed men while the Axis powers
started out with 75,000 men. After the invasion of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese
continued to attack the US owned island of the Philippines. Macarthur started to
prepare the US to defend the island of Luzon, near Bataan in the Philippines.
Specifically, he wanted the US to defend Legaspi, which was located in southern
Luzon. As the Japanese started to invade,

Materialism is the only form of distraction from true bliss. Douglas Horton. At the
beginning of A Perfect Day for Bananafish , J.D. Salinger concentrates on the
deranged Seymour Glass, who, after being released from the Army hospital, isolates
himself from blinded consumers. Seymour returns to his family after World War II,
only to become aware of the nauseating phoniness of the world. Seymour attempts to
rid his family of the superficial American dream with The trees. That business with

All those whom Seymour knows Muriel and her family, the psychiatrist, and Sybil s
mother reflect the oppressive adult world where true value is lost. On the contrary,
the innocence and value is still visible and pure within children. Salinger uses a
young Sybil to symbolize the human condition for Seymour. By speaking with Sybil,
Seymour reconnects to the innocent, childlike state, but this is short lived for when
she leaves him, he is forced to submerge himself back into Muriel s superficial life.
Though briefly bringing Seymour hope and happiness, Sybil already resembles the
tarnishing spirit of man after she returns to the real world of superficial paradise from
the imaginative dream Seymour and her have established: Goodbye, said Sybil, and
ran without regret in the direction of the hotel (Salinger 9). Salinger uses Sybil in
reference to Greek mythology like the sibyls of old, she is the unconscious oracle
through whom prophecy is revealed, the instrument of truth; what she reveals to
Seymour is the finality of that unbridgeable gap between human aspiration and
human possibility. Seymour s suicide is his summing up (Lane). In the end, Seymour
s search for opportunity and innocence proves futile and his final attempt for true
bliss or nirvana imminent. Salinger often associates the phoniness of adulthood and
materialism with the constant complication of true communication. For the motif of
14. Igor Stravinsky Rite Of Spring
A critique of The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky and Folding by Shen Wei On
November 22th, I enjoyed the Rite of Spring and Folding at Centennial Hall in U of
A. Both of them shocked me by their unique way of performances. From the very
beginning, The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky strengthens in a volatile sense of
harmonious movements. The Rite of Springis quite different from classical ballets
whose subtle interchange of the curvaceous, subjective lithesome in the flow of time
that romanticism savored. In this particular dance which was carefully planned by
Igor Stravinsky, Stravinsky s rhythms hit and batter; although highly asymmetric they
are still pounded in such a new way that the score requires innovation in harmonious
representation to make Stravinsky s invention workable. In this dance, there is no
way are these rhythms presented subtly, in fact, they are habitually stricken out in
harmony by the huge orchestra that the work uses. Undeniably, one of the most
enjoyable facets of a noble performance, even without dance convention, is the way
that it looks. Their grey outfit and sporadic black tops make them a perfect blend....

It was as if there was nobody and only the ghost like dancers onstage accompanied by
irregular music terrified me. So as to concentrate on the listener s discernment on the
rhythm, musical material, Stravinsky at times reduces to tiny repetitive
configurations of a simple two or three pitch. In tandem with this rectilinear plainness,
The Rite of Spring s gargantuan crunching synchronizations move at the stride of
glaciers, this gradual harmonic movement puzzlingly magnifying the general sense of
drive and energy. These structures of sound, although distressingly dissonant for an
audience in 1913, are selected with perfect modification, and they reinforce
Stravinsky s complete arc with a structural indemnity on a practically Beethovenian
15. Zero Tolerance In Schools
Zero tolerance is a great idea however, there needs to be changes made to this
program. Zero tolerance has made big changes at schools, some good and some
bad. The idea of getting a school safer is great but some of the consequences in the
program can be rather excessive. There has been many times where a student has
gotten in trouble for a minor violation of the Zero Tolerancepolicy. The article Zero
Tolerance: Safer Schools or Unfair Rules says Horror stories abound: The Wisconsin
sixth grader suspended for a year for bringing a kitchen knife to schoolfor a science
project; an 8 year old facing expulsion for carrying a fingernail clipper; a high
school junior charged with verbal abuse and expelled for sharing with friends his
essay ridiculing the principal. These are not the only students that it has happened to.
There have been many students that have done something and were treated like a
criminal. The article also states Rachel Kiel, 15, admits she messed up last February.

16. Cinematic Conventions In Jane Campion s Bright Star
Jane Campion s Bright Star (2009) is a film critically acclaimed for its use of
cinematic conventions, winning an array of awards such as the 2010 Australian Film
Industry awards for Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Costume

Fanny Brawne notably is presented initially in bright and youthful clothing that is
similar to that of her sister Toots. The opening scene of the film presents both Fanny
and Toots dressed in near matching white dresses, and both sisters wear bonnets upon
their heads. Such presentation of the Brawne sisters is indicative symbolically of the
closeness in their relationship that stems predominately from their shared youth and
maturity. Patterson creates a contrast to this presentation as eventually Fanny
increasingly dresses similarly to her mother as she matures, finding herself more akin
to an adult than to Toots, who, lacking the experience of falling in love with a
terminally ill man such as Keats, retains more childlike qualities. Upon the near end
of the film this costume alteration is apparent, particularly within the scene where
Mrs Brawne comforts her distraught daughter after she hears the news of Keats death.

17. The Indigenous Religions Of The World
The Indigenous Religions of the World
Throughout the world there are many various religions, some very common to you
and I. However, there are many religions that are common in several isolated places
all around the world in Japan, Australia, and the Americas. Many of these religions,
called Indigenous Religions are based on nature, and the earth. The practice of these
religions is considered sacred to the people that follow them. Many of these
indigenous people are fully sacrificed to their religion. They live their lives according
to these religions and are fully indebted to them. The four major Indigenous Religions
are Shinto, found in Japan, the Australian Aboriginal, African, and Native American.
The Native American Religion is based off of nature. Many Native Americans
believe in a Great Spirit who powers all aspects of life. This spirit, they believe,
makes its presence known through nature; plants and animals. Performing various
rituals, ceremonies, and prayers, the Native American people focus most of their
worship on important points of the agricultural and hunting seasons. Many of their
prayers are offered in song and dance form (Spielvogel) . One very well known
ceremony of the Native American people is the Sun Dance. The Sun Dance is
practiced by many tribes, even today, as a prayer for life. It is much like the Native
American s Thanksgiving. Many people may dance to pray for a relative or friend,
or to determine their place in the world, but it is their
18. The American Constitution And The Constitution
Let take a look at some of the compromises and challenges the Founding Fathers had
to overcome when they set out to rewrite the American Constitution. The government
built upon the Articles of Confederation was failing and change was needed. The
American Constitution would not have been adopted without compromise over very
difficult topics such as slavery, size and structure of government, taxation, elections,
and governing responsibilities. The Federal and States balance of authority and
division of responsibility provided a level of comfort to the citizens concerned with
being ruled once again. Human natures mistrust of others is written into the
Constitution as the separation of powers . The birth of political parties (Federalists
and Antifederalists) highlights the two distinct different in America views of politics,
small central government or a strong central government. The Constitutional
compromise, states with large populations like Virginia and South Carolina wanted
the population of their states to determine the number of representatives in congress,
of course, this count would include slaves. The smaller northern states were the use
of Slaves was on the decline or not practices at all did not agree with having slaves
counted for population, as the southern states wanted. If this was allowed the
Southern states would have a disproportionate number of elected representatives in
congress. So as a compromise was made, the 3/5th rule. The rule counted one slave as
19. Advantages Of Reconstruction Sharecropping
One failure of Reconstruction would be sharecropping. After the Civil War ended,
slaves were formally emancipated. Most of them, however, did not have any skills
aside from farm work, so wealthy white farmers allowed poor Americans (mainly
blacks) to work on their farms in exchange for part of the crop. While this seems
like a great idea, in reality most plantation owners took advantage of their workers.
From Rebuilding the Old Order, paragraph 2 states, SHARECROPPERS often
found themselves in debt, for they had to borrow on bad terms and had to pay
excessively for basic supplies. When the harvest came, if the debt exceeded harvest
revenues, the sharecropper remained bound to the owner. That sort of sounds like
another form of slavery,

decision. Before Sheila never talked to her mother like this, this shows that Sheila
has gained more power and can now stand out for herself and decide what is right
for her. On the other hand, Lady Macbeth is gradually losing her power. For
example in act 3 scene 2 she ask Macbeth What s to be done, Macbeth replies Be
innocent of the knowledge. The word `innocent suggest that Macbeth is not
involving Lady Macbeth in his plans and telling her to act more innocent.. This
shows that she has lost power because now Macbeth is in control and he is making
the important decision. Also, in act 3 scene 2 Lady Macbeth speaks to Macbeth
and says, you must leave this, and Macbeth replies O, full of scorpion is my mind,
dear wife The word `scorpion suggest that his mind is now full of evilness. This
tells us that Macbeth has stopped listening to his dear wife and he is now answering
back. We can clearly see that she has lost power over her husband. This links with the
play as Jacobean men made important
22. The Presidential Model Of The United States
From the materials we covered in classes I believe that a parliamentary system, as
opposed to the presidential model of the United States might solve problem of
having a low approval of the government. In the US we have the presidential
model. The presidential model has single head of state that is the face of the
country, plays a very small role in day to governing of the country and head of
government who actually runs the government, executive that is responsible for day
to day governing of a particular society. In the case of United States, President
Barack Obama holds both positions. If we were to compare this to the United
Kingdom, the head of stateis the queen, she is the face of the country, doesn t really
run the government. While David Cameron, the prime minster is the head of the
government, he is the one in charge of actually running the government. The head
of government is different from the head of state unlike the United States. In the
presidential model there is a single executive with real decision making powers and
can only be removed under extreme circumstances. It also has Separate elections
and separate survival. Doesn t matter how poorly or how well the president s party
does in legislative election doesn t affect his election or survival. It will not affect the
presidents time in office because they are separately elected and their survivals aren t
linked. But in parliamentary systemit does matter, if you lose the support of your
party, you are
23. Graphic Design Essay
The world of Graphic Design is ever changing, and fast paced. Attempting to keep
up with new ideas and trends can be dizzying along with tiring. We have already
seen the invention of so much technology to get us where we are today, whether
that be the Gutenberg Press or Apple s Macintosh Computer. The future of design
shows no signs of mercy in terms of slowing down, but just what does the future
have in store? Before we can think about the future, we must first understand the
past. Design can be dated back as far as pre historic times through the Lascaux
Cave Paintings. Done over 200,000 years ago, it is the earliest known example of
writing. It would later be discovered as a form of communications. The Egyptian
culture utilized design in their Book of the Deads. Each book was made to include
passwords, and spells to help those you have passed away in their afterlife. It would
be until the Chinese civilization, and all their world changing inventions, where we
would see an emergence of the printingprocess. Alongside the compass, and
gunpowder, the civilization also invented paper, and what is known as Chinese
Chops. Chinese Chops were commonly made of jade, silver, or even ivory, and was a
stamp like objects that allowed for mass production at the time. Between a
combination of the Chops and a shortage of iron, the culture was able to get printing
into the hands of everyone through money. Unfortunately, because of the shear
amount of characters in the Chinese language,
24. Behavioral Science And Community Health
For Department of Behavioral Science and Community Health
Around 6 years of age, I was outside playing with other children when I noticed a
group of people building something in an area. Everyone gathered around to observe
them and saw water coming out of a pump. There were a few stories about drinking
unsafe water or eating contaminated foods which led to gastrointestinal diseases, but
very little effort was made to prevent this. While in my undergraduate years studying
to become a physician, I noticed how doctors were trained in interventional medicine,
but not many practiced preventive medicine. I decided that I wanted to enact positive
impact by assessing and analyzing data to understand public health problems,
developing programs to address the issues and designing methods to measure the
efficiency of health interventions in order to improve population health. By the end of
my sophomore year, I started pursuing a degree in public health.
At X University, I took two courses Community Health Promotion and Epidemiology
that captured my interest in Behavioral Community Health Sciences. As I listened to
experts speak intensively about effective communication with vulnerable population
and ways to modify incidence, prevalence and mortality rates within the
communities, I saw the possibilities of improving the quality of lives for many. My
professors carried such genuine interest in educating us on various public health
issues that by the end of the course, I was sure

It launched for the first time on mission STS 1 on April 12, 1981, the first flight of
the Space Shuttle program. Over 22 years of service it completed 27 missions
before disintegrating during re entry near the end of its 28th mission, STS 107 on

History: Columbia was named after the American sloop Columbia Rediviva which,
from 1787 to 1793, under the command of Captain Robert Gray, explored the US
Pacific Northwest and became the first American vessel to circumnavigate the
globe. It is also named after the Command Module of Apollo 11, the first manned

27. Prison Subculture In Prison
When the average person thinks of jails and prisons, they typically think of
horrible criminals being locked up in order to protect the rest of society. They think
justice has been served, and those who did the crime are now doing the time. But
what goes on inside a prison, and inside the minds of the inmates? What about after
those offenders have served their time, and are now being released back into the
general public? People don t really think about how prisonaffects a person s
mentality, or how incarceration impacts both relationships the inmate currently
has, or ones that will develop in the future. Although it isn t something most people
think of first, incarceration is an experience that can have a negative psychological
impact on a person for quite some time. Once you enter a prison, you are in a
completely different world. The sound of the door as it closes drives the
realization home: your freedom is gone. Whatever luxuries you had before are
gone. Everything you once took for granted you now long for, and contemplate with
reverence. This being the case, there are now two new sets of rules you have to
follow: the rules of the staff, and the rules of the inmates. Of course, these will
conflict, but you have to deal with it now. Prison subculture is different from the
outside world and even varies between men s and women s. The men s subculture is
probably the better known of the two. It has its own set of ebonics, attitudes, statuses,
and values. Inmates say that

29. Kathleen M. Kenyon s Life
INTRODUCTION Kathleen M. Kenyon is an archeologist of the twentieth century
that is well known and highly looked upon in her field. She came from a family with
influence and and connections to many different institutes and colleges. It is because
of her family s influence and connections that she was able to become well known
and one of the best excavators in Great Britain. Kathleen Kenyonwas born in London,
England, on January 5, in 1906 to her parents Fredric and Amy Kenyon after losing
two children at birth due, according to family tradition, to the incompetence of the
doctor where they lived in Harrowon the Hill, a suburb of London. She was the
older sibling between her and her sister. Her father was a biblical scholar who also
believed in the inspiration of the Word of God and became the Director of the
British Museum. Kathleen goes on to say about having her father as a Director of
the British Museum it was most useful to have the national collection at one s
disposal, added to which were the joys of accompanying my father by the light of an
electric torch to select books from the great catalogue in his Reading Room. She
enjoyed the access to material and studying she could do. Kathleen s mother was not
a scholar she was more artistic and musically talented. Amy s skills in painting and art
was a complement to her husband s scholarly detachment. Kathleen s mother was
very talented, she sang, sketched, and did different crafts like wood carving. Although
30. Essay on A Psychological Analysis of Alice Walker s...
A Psychological Analysis of Alice Walker s Everyday Use
The human mind is divided into three parts that make up the mind as a whole.
These parts are necessary to have a complete mind, just as the members of a family
are needed to make up the entire family. The use of components to equal a whole is
often exercised in literature. Alice Walker s short story, Everyday Use, contains the
idea of family and of the mind, therefore her work can be evaluated through
psychological methods. Through their actions, the characters symbolize the three
different parts of the mind: the id, the ego, and the superego.
The first type of mind division, the id, constantly strives to satisfy basic drives...[and]
seeks immediate gratification ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maggie s personality is closely connected to the ego section because of her powerful
desire to do right and to solve her problems realistically. Mama explains that after
dinner Dee went to the trunk at the foot of [the] bed...Maggie hung back in the
kitchen over the dishpan (Walker 95). As Dee tries to usurp the quilts from her
mother, Maggie tries to help her mother by doing the dishes. Maggie tries to act
morally while Dee tries to take advantage of her mother. While discussing the
rightful owner of the quilts, Maggie said, She can have them, Mama ...like
somebody used to never winning anything, or having anything reserved for her
(Walker 97). Instead of fighting over the quilts, Maggie willingly gives them to her
sister. Even though Maggie wishes to have them, she does not want to produce
conflict in her family. Maggie is accustomed to getting less than her sister and has an
unselfish personality. Her actions are parallel to an ego because the ego defines
moral actions.
Finally, Myers states that the superego strives for perfection and judges our actions,
producing positive feelings of pride or negative feelings of guilt (380). The superego
acts as the mind s conscience. In the story, the narrator, Mama, clearly represents the
superego portion of the mind structure because of her guilty conscience and her
wishes to be perfect, both mentally and physically.
31. The Federal Government And Education System
The Federal Government and Education Article 1, Section 8, of the Constitution
declares that the US Government is responsible to tax the people for the general
welfare of its citizens . Under this clause, the Government has taken the responsibility
of education; not to micro manage the education system, but instead to increase the
efficiency of it. In the past, states and local governments have maintained primary
control of the educationsystem, which has led to many problems. The differences in
curriculum, quality, and administering as well as other aspects of public education
are vastly different around the country, which has actually inhibited America s ability
to succeed. Many of these issues could be resolved with a shift in power in terms of
who is controlling the country s academic system. The Federal Government should
have a significant amount of regulating responsibility in America s education system,
because it standardizes the quality of education across the country, presents an
opportunity of equal education for all students, and regulates teachers. With the
Federal Government regulating education, a national standard of schooling will
become available. This means that there will be set expectations for how well a
studentdoes in schoolas well as standards for a quality education across the US the
education on one side of the country will be exactly the same as on the other side.
Having a national academic standard is important because standards spell out
32. Plasmid Lab Report
Introduction In this investigation pUC19 plasmids were used as the vector due to
its small size of 2686bp, high uptake efficiency by the host and fast replication
time. Important features of this plasmid include the origin of replication and
multiple cloning sites (MCS). The origin of replication allows the plasmid to
replicate inside the host bacterium. The MCS is located within the lacZ gene and
contains unique sites for the Xbal EcoRI restirction enzymes to cut and produce
sticky ends for the CIH 1 gene to bind to. Furthermore, the pUC19 plasmid also
contains an ampiccilin resistance gene so only transforemed E.coli are able to
remain viable when spread on the agar plates that also has the addition of ampiccilin.
The lacZ gene encodes the ОІ galactosidase enzyme which aids in indentifying the
recombinant E.coli from the non recombinant cells (Coventry University 2016). The
addition of 5 bromo 4 chloro 3 indoyl ОІ thiogalactoside (X gal) in the agar mix acts
as an artifical substrate for the enzyme so it produces blue E.coli colonies when
hydrolised by the ОІ galactosidase meaning those specific colonies do not contain the
plasmid with the CIH 1 insert (non recombinant E.coli) (Coventry University 2016).
Isopropyl ОІ D thiogalactoside (IPTG) an artifical transcription inducer of the lacZ
gene is also added into the agar mix, binding to the repressor gene and inactivating it.
Therefore when the CIH 1 gene is incorporated within the plasmid MCS and inserted
into the E.coli

35. The Life And Opinions Of Tristram Shandy, Sisband
Writing, when properly managed, (as you may be sure I think mine is) is but a
different name for a conversation (87; vol. II, ch. XI), states the narrator Tristram
Shandy in Laurence Sterne s novel, The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy,
Gentleman. Indeed, the distinctive writing style of the novel may make one feel
reminded of a real conversation due to the many interruptions and digressions, which
are typical of human face to face interaction and which occasionally make it more
difficult for the reader to follow the storyline.
Following the above depicted statement, Tristram proceeds by maintaining that the
truest respect which you can pay to the reader s understanding is to halve this matter

the reader or a narratee like Sir or Madam, and the resulting consequences for the
respective addressee in terms of how they are dealt with. In order to achieve this,
the analysis will be confined to only three visual elements, namely asterisks, dashes,
and gaps because they are the most common ones. Although literary researchers
have already examined these particular visual elements, they have not done so in
terms of their recipients. For my analysis, it is important to distinguish between the
narratee, the implied reader, and the actual reader: According to Jahn, the narratee
is the narrator s fictional addressee (cf. N1.5.); the implied reader, as already
mentioned above, is a text s overall projection of a reader role, superordinate to any
narratee (N2.3.2.), which means that he is e.g. able to understand the function of all
visual elements in the novel and handles them perfectly; Which is, according to Iser,
influenced by his former experience (cf. Der Akt des Lesens 66). The actual reader,
consequently, does not necessarily have this experience and might struggle during the
reading
36. Use Of Purpose And Form In To Kill A Mockingbird, By...
While analyzing any sort of text it is very important to take a look at purpose and
form. From purpose and form a message or moral is thrived which provides a life
lesson. Many times readers may overlook the purpose and form of a text, which can
cause confusion and misunderstanding when expanding the reading to find a theme.
Purpose and form are two critical aspects that are the main contributors to a
meaning. This can be seen through To kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee, as
she uses purpose and significantly uses form to create meaning. Furthermore this
concept is also present in King Lear by William Shakespeare, who majorly utilizes
purpose and form to illustrate meaning. While taking a look at these two very famous
and well known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purpose and form can be quite complicated to determine and understand but in
order to get a deep understanding of the moral it is necessary to breakdown key
conceptions so that a full meaning can be addressed. Harper Lee does a effective
job highlighting purpose in To kill a Mockingbird . She sets her book in a era
where racism is at its severe heights. She uses Tom Robinson an African American
accused of rapping a Caucasian female. Even though there is enough evidence to
prove Robinson not guilty he is proved guilty by and all white jury. From her novel it
is clearly demonstrated that the purpose of this novel is to break racial barriers and
clear all stereotypical ideas. Lee does an excessive job writing this novel through a
child named Scout. She bases her perceptions all through Scout and her point of
view this represents the form of her novel, the style, the shape of her literature.
Extensively as Scout says, you never really understand a person until you consider
things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk
37. Marketing And Communication In Fashion Marketing
Fashion Marketing is a way to contribute to the field of the fashion industry s process
to success. I have always seen fashion marketing and communications as an
opportunity, appreciation and passion for fashion and all that it stands for. Jobs
within fashion marketing can include; merchandising, product development and
production, trend forecasting, public relations, visual merchandising and marketing
and leadership related positions. A large part of all these jobs is having an
understanding for what consumers enjoy, love and want to spend their money on.
For example, label and logo design can read into what consumers feels a brand
represents and may entail. In fast fashion, (having worked with Forever 21 for over a
year myself) it has given me an insight for how a large scale fast fashionbusinesses
run one store of their many locations around the world. In my generation, social
media has a very large influence on the way people in today s day and age consume
clothing. This comes with the need of a product wanted right away and
instantaneously. Consumers are impatient just like all of us are, we love express
shipping, to get the latest trends that released on Instagram, and to wear the new
clothing we purchased the very next day. This is what has lead to the success of the
fast fashion industry. Knowing this, the way fashion is marketed must bring
awareness of new media, for companies and brands to succeed in the future. The
people consuming product will contribute

Page 1 I chose the short story of from The Gospel of Luke Story of a Lost Son. This
captured my attention because it is a religious story from the bible. This story
represents a certain Tone (The mood or attitude reflected in a literary work; it is
important in identifying how the author approaches a subject and conveys it to
readers. (Clugston, 2010)) of moral theme. Throughout the story we see examples
of jealousy, envy, regret, forgiveness and a father s undying love. I will use the
Formalist approach for my analysis of this story. The formalist approach is most
widely used in literary criticism; it focuses on the form and development of the
literary work itself. (Clugston, 2010) What makes the setting so memorable? A...

story stayed very to the point. The point of this story was to cause the reader to
have a realization or epiphany to the lesson at hand. What point of view was used?
This story was written as a third party point of view. The writer let us know exactly
how the characters feel, however did not have any participation in the story.
(However, according to the bible Jesus is telling the story.) In what ways do
literary conventions and forms contribute to its appeal? Page 3 This story is a

everyday life. Meaning of the Story: This is a biblical story so the meaning of the
story is to represent God s love. The father representing God, the youngest son
representing people of sin and the oldest son representing faithful followers of
God. Therefore the main point of the story would be how much God rejoices when
a being makes the decision to follow him. Although the people who have followed
all along may be jealous the point is for us to rejoice that our brother has returned
home . If I was unaware this story was from the
39. The Democracy And Human Rights
For as long as it has existed, the Chinese government has been power hungry, They
have limited the freedom of citizens so that they can make the decisions themselves,
such as not allowing citizens to vote for government officials. Instead, officials are
simply appointed by others in government. Citizens want reform, protests have
occurred across the country for change to a democratic system so that citizens can
finally elect the people that represent them. This would give citizens more power,
but as result, take some away from the government, which they do not want. The
Chinese government needs to listen to their citizens and change to a democratic
system to give them more freedom and make them happier. The status of democracy
and human rights in China is not where it could be. Both are limited in the
following ways. According to Noah Berlatsky, China s government is authoritarian
and undemocratic. Leaders are for the most part appointed and not elected. Media in
China are regulated, and protest against the government is strictly limited
(Berlatsky). This means that the citizens of China do not have the ability to
influence who is elected. The already appointed government officials decide and
appoint others. The Chinese government also strictly limits protesting. There is a
popular practice known as Falun Gong, which includes exercises and the study of
several books. This was founded by Li Hongzhi in 1992, and by 1998, it had 70
million practitioners. The Chinese

In 1966 Great Britain, several art forms began to spring up within the LSD
subculture, and music and art were being produced and performed. As Andy Roberts
puts states, the environment was being created by LSD users for the LSD user. [18]
Most musicians and artist used LSD to open up creative pathways for writing and
creating art and used lyrics and artwork to express their rebellious and dissatisfaction
with the government. LSD was common among psychedelic rockartists such as The
Beatles, Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd and the Grateful Deadamong others; this
helped in increasing the popularity of LSD during the 1960s. Musicians in America

[19] Although they created a more mellow genre, their lyrics voiced their
disapproving opinion of society as some musician and bands did. Music greatly
affected the minds of young people and once they caught a wind about LSD, they
wanted to know more and find another escape from rigid society and new avenues
of self expression. The media explained to the younger generation what LSD is and
how it could help enhance the free and rebellious lifestyle they wanted so
desperately to be a part of, so users began to use LSD to enhance their senses and
experiences, just like musicians had been doing. The experience created another
sense of community and belonging which the youth of the counterculture had always
wanted. Britain and American influenced each other in the LSD music scene.
Psychic expressions of art, design, and performance flooded London and its
Underground art scene, just like in New York. [20] Halls in London filled with artist,
poets, and musicians expressing themselves and opinions about the world, and some
were using LSD to help reach a deeper contention themselves and their
42. The Legacy Of Ted Bundy
Theodore Robert Cowell, more notoriously known as Ted Bundy, was born in
Burlington, Vermont on November 24, 1946. Bundy was raised by his grandparents
for the first three years of his life in order to avoid public disgrace from their
community due to the fact that Bundy s mother had him out of wedlock. As a young
boy, Bundy was under the notion, along with the community around him, that his
grandparents were his parents and his mother was his older sister. At the age of four,
his mother left with Bundy to live in Philadelphia and there met her new husband,
Johnny Bundy. Together, they resulted in conceiving four children and despite the
fact that Johnny Bundy had adopted him; he continued to stay secluded from the rest

According to the United Nations, 158.8 million people around the world use
marijuana that is more than 3.8% of the planet s population (Marijuana statistics,
2017). These statistics indicate that marijuana is frequently being used around the
world without people knowing its positive and negative effects. Marijuana is one
of the most abused drugs in the world. There is an ever growing gap between the
latest science about marijuana and the myths surrounding it (drug facts, marijuana).
A lot of people around the world are still ignorant about marijuana and its uses.
They do not even know about its existence. Marijuana is a slow poison that
deteriorates the body and the person consuming it loses the ability to think about his
own welfare. When a person loses the ability to think, that is when his downfall
starts. There are effective uses of marijuana, yet there are also serious issues that
should be considered and therefore, all this leads us to research more deeply into this
matter and make all possible efforts to understand the causes and effect of marijuana
more effectively.
Marijuana can lead to a lot of genetic damage to our human body which can further
result in other ailments. Based on the results of an experimental study published in
the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology (2009), investigators reported that
carcinogenic potential of marijuana is attributed to compounds like acetaldehyde.
Acetaldehyde can change the structure of DNA in our body which can further
45. Teaching, Learning, And Learning
The learning process is a highly complex one no two children will learn in the exact
same way. It is, therefore, important to understand how young people learn in order
to use effective teaching strategies in the classroom which, in turn, will result in
effective learning (Hallam Ireson, 1999). There are a variety of different ways to
learn and different theories underpinning it, this essay will consider three different
learningapproaches behaviourism, constructivism and social constructivism, the
change in teaching style from a traditional, didactic manner to an active approach
and look at two different pedagogies cooperative learning and outdoor learning,
mainly fieldwork, that can be used to aid and support learning in Geography.
Following this, the essay will argue how effective pedagogy can aid the teaching of
one key aspect within the Geography curriculum, in this case Weather, and how this
can be taught through the two pedagogies discussed in this essay.
Teaching and learning traditionally followed a behaviourist approach. This theory
considers the learner to be tabula rosa (a blank slate), thus, people learn through
experience whereby a positive or negative experience will create a certain response
or behaviour, therefore, learning from reward or punishment. It is the change in
behaviour that enhances learning. This theory places the learner in a passive role and
the teacher decides on all aspects of the lesson, subsequently, giving the learner little
choice

47. Effects of Cell Phones
Outline Thesis: Unless the risks of usage of cell phones outweighs the benefits, we
should educate people on how to manage their usage of cell phones or use a
different mean of communication. The Effects that Cell Phones have on Society
Introduction In the United States of America, there are over one hundred million
cell phone users. This number is growing at an astonishing rate of more than sixty
thousand people per day. (Cellular Telephones) Thirty percent of all Americans have

States was a rarity. (Raloff) The most common domestic appliance that Americans
use every day is the cell phone, and we deserve the right to know the effects... Show

If people would practice using correct grammar more often, they wouldn t have as
much trouble doing things such as writing a job resume and writing an essay. Can I
die from using cell phones? Will one phone call to your grandmother be the last
phone call that you ever make, or will you get cancer from the radioactivity that cell
phones emit? Many citizens have become concerned that cell phones can cause
cancer. For many years, health experts have investigated claims that the radio waves
emitted and received by cell phones could heat brain tissues, leading to genetic
mutations that cause formation of cancerous and noncancerous tumors. (Cellular
Telephones) Cell Phones generate electromagnetic fields that affect biological
tissues and create diseases, putting millions of people at risk. EMFs are all around
us in any object that has an electrical charge. There are invisible lines of force that
surround all wiring and electrical instruments. The strength of these fields varies from
indoors to outdoors along with the individual s surrounding environment, which
changes from day to day. EMF waves from cell phones challenge the human body s
natural electrical frequency by continually penetrating the entire body and disrupting
homeostasis within neural transmission. This increases the risk of harmful diseases.
They also damage DNA and cause headaches, tumors, brain cancer, and loss of
hearing. (Wimmer) Benefits of Cell Phone Usage Increase in Public Safety Cell
48. The Association Of Nurse Anesthetists
Qui tam pro domino rege quam pro se ipso in hac parte sequitur is Latin for
meaning Who brings the action for the King as well as for himself (Blumenreich,
1999). An abbreviated form, qui tam is a current writ in the United States under the
False Claims Act. This act allows a private individual or whistleblower with
knowledge of present or past fraud committed against the federal government to bring
suit on the government s behalf. As a student embarking on a new career in anesthesia
, I feel it very important to have an understanding of a lawsuit brought by the
Minnesota Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA) against Allina Health
Systems, several Minnesota hospitals and a number of anesthesiologists. It is one in
which has kept the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist(CRNA) profession thriving
and has also been instrumental in bringing about regulatory changes regarding
reimbursement of anesthesia professionals. Being a registered nurse over the last
fourteen years, I have witnessed firsthand that the healthcare industry is constantly
evolving. And with all the government budget deficits, many models of health care
are built on cost containment and managed care. This has resulted in a lot of conflicts
between healthcare providers, especially between CRNAs and anesthesiologists.
Historically the delivery of anesthesia has predominately been by nurses rather than
doctors. However this balance began to shift when the delivery of anesthesia became
49. How To Make Up Memories Essay
A camera can only capture so many memories. There are a lot of people that make
up the memories in my life. Some memories are good and some memories are bad,
but these events make me who I am today, and who I am becoming as an
individual. The flash was blinding to my eyes. Thinking to myself, I hate pictures.
Today was my first day of second grade in a new school. Not knowing anyone in the
second grade scared me quite a bit. I have so many worries!!! Will I get lost? Will I
make new friends? Will my teacher be mean? Get in the car. said mom. I don t

school, I could only think of negative thoughts. As I stopped crying my mom finally
has a chance to talk to me she said have a good daysweetie, today will be great! I did
not know that at that second but soon I would. Walking into the classroom, I find
my name on one of the desks. As I take my seat the teacher walks up and says You
can go outside if you want and play with the other kids. Getting up from my seat this
girl says Hey you want to be my friend? Sure! I said. What s your name? Miranda she

time to go home. Right as I walked in the door my mom was there to greet me. I told
her all about my day and how I want to go back already and how this year is going to
be great!
Going back to that moment would be terrifying. But the
