(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery) As for Well Zhang 279 Cong 1, the analysis result shows that the main reason for production reduction is the plugging of the near-wellbore zone caused by organic matters such as wax and asphalt contained in crude oil. In September 2012, BERO™ biosurfactant was mixed with formation water and injected in Well Zhang 279 Cong 1 to remove plugging and stimulate production and the temperature of the injection fluid was above 122℉. During construction, pressure rose from 0 psi to 1450 psi.
After shut-in for 5 days, Well Zhang 279 Cong 1 resumed production and then its production greatly increased. Its daily oil production increased from 11.7 BOPD to 17.4 BOPD.
After BERO™ biosurfactant is injected into a water injection well, it has the functions of cleaning, oil displacement, stimulation, facilitating drainage, penetration and biological degradation such as preventing organic deposition, so change happens to the reservoir within the retention zone and the passage of injected water flow also changes when BERO™ biosurfactant evenly diffuses in the reservoir, passages with small resistance causing “short-circuit” are influenced, water flow is forced to search for more new passages and the sweep area of water flooding is enlarged, thereby improving water flooding effect and realizing plugging removal and injection reduction.
(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery) application scope of bero™ biosurfactant 2Matt Wu
(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery) BERO™ biosurfactant has the unique characteristic of non-activity, will not be affected by shear degradation, temperature, pressure, acid, alkali and water salinity, and is completely soluble in water and compatible with sewage with any salinity. Therefore, it is commonly used for the cleaning and oil displacement of reservoirs and has wide application scope and prospect. The laboratory experiment on water flooding efficiency shows that the addition of BERO™ biosurfactant into injected water can improve the rate of oil recovery through water flooding by 5%-6% and final oil recovery rate can be improved by about 10%.
(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery)Application of bero™ biosurfactant in pucheng oil...Matt Wu
(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery)BERO™biosurfactant has a very strong ability in releasing the hydrocarbon on the surface of reservoir rock particles, and does not form a hydrocarbon emulsification, in theory, BERO™biosurfactant can be used as a good displacing agent, but this proposal remains to be further studied.

After the application of BERO™ biosurfactant, due to the bio-chemical and biological degradation effect of enzyme, BERO™ biosurfactant will encompass outer films of oil drops, cause deformation of oil drops, split oil drops and make oil drops become smaller and then release from rock formation.
BERO™ biosurfactant is a polymeric biological enzyme and as a water-soluble product, it can efficiently release hydrocarbon on the surfaces of solid particles in reservoir. After being injected into the formation, due to activity, it can adhere to rock surface for a long time to change the property of rock formation into hydrophilic biological surface, reduce wetting angle and the interfacial tension of rock particles in reservoir, thereby reducing the flowing resistance of crude oil in reservoir pores; meanwhile, due to biological degradation effect, BERO™ biosurfactant will continuously deform and split oil drops until oil drops are released from rock formation, thus not only being able to loosen the crude oil of retention layer, but also making oil drops become smaller and more easily exude through the pores of rock formation until they are recovered. Since enzyme will form a kind of mild emulsion composed of oil, water, enzyme, enzyme-based ferment, etc. The emulsion can resist against, contact and change the retention layer, thereby achieving the effect of cleaning, injection reducing and oil displacement and improving oil recovery rate. Meanwhile, it will not produce other new product, so it will not plug pores or cause secondary pollution.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

As for cost reduction seen from the practical application effect, in recent years,
the average water cut of onshore oilfields has been as high as 82% and
onshore oilfields enter the development period of high water cut. Oil-water
separation and sewage re-injection greatly increase energy consumption,
which makes oil production nearly profitless and forces some old oilfields to
reduce production. BERO™ biosurfactant technology can not only greatly
improve oil recovery rate, but also greatly reduce water injection and water cut
of produced liquid, lower energy and machinery consumption, improve the
efficiency of production well systems and prolong workover-free period. The
production of crude oil greatly increases while production cost is lowered, so
remarkable economic benefit is gained.
As for environmental problem seen from the perspective of development,
generally speaking, exploration and development and long- distance
transportation of crude oil will irreversibly damage and seriously affect the
environment and affect the soil and biological environments of some areas.

Most production wells have entered into secondary recovery; most commonly
used chemical and physical secondary recovery technologies are
internationally considered as efficient and environmentally harmful
technologies and have been restricted or prohibited in some advanced
countries; and the cost for improving those restricted technologies is very high.
In this case, due to the limitations of technology, the environmental protection
performance of oilfields face many problems, the surfaces of many oilfields are
barren and ecological environment cannot be restored within several decades.
In recent years, national industrial policies and energy policies explicitly
specify that processes, equipment and products requiring high energy
consumption and causing environmental pollution shall be eliminated.
Environmental problem has attracted a lot of attention from people from all
walks of life and people are more and more aware of effectively protecting
ecological environment during oilfield development. As a non-acidified
preparation, BERO™ biosurfactant will not cause the secondary pollution of
formation or disturb crude oil dehydration and sewage treatment systems and
it can prevent secondary plugging since it produces no other new ramification
during reaction. It is biologically degradable, will not corrode or pollute facilities
(such as pipes) and surrounding environment or do harm to human or animals,
so it is an environmentally friendly product. This product totally meets the HSE
requirements for working environment during oilfield development. Even
though well selection and technical deviation could not achieve expected result,
it will not damage production well and formation.
Therefore, BERO™ biosurfactant has obvious advantages over other existing
enhanced oil recovery technologies. It brings considerable economic benefit
as well as environmental and social benefits and is beneficial to the harmony
between oilfield development and environment and sustainable development.

Comparison between BERO™ biosurfactant technology and technologies
such as acidification, fracturing and polymer flooding:
As for conventional technologies such as acidification, polymer flooding and
fracturing, due to their own limitations, they cannot achieve ideal effect or only
have short-term effect and may cause secondary pollution of reservoir. For
instance, if acidification is adopted to remove plug, high acid concentration is
required, effective action radius is often small and substances dissolved by
acid may cause new plug, so it only has short-term effect. This method
possibly results in damage of reservoir and environment and corrosion of
equipment. As for fracturing, it can only act on fractures and will fast increase
water cut. As for polymer flooding, produced wastewater not only has high oil
content, but also contains a lot of polymer, thus increasing liquid viscosity,
improving the oil carrying capability of liquid and also increasing difficulty in
water-oil separation.
Compared with the above methods, BERO™ biosurfactant technology
prevents their disadvantages perfectly:
