The document discusses the application of BEROTM biosurfactant in the Yanchang Oilfield in China. It describes how the biosurfactant was used to increase oil production in four wells that were experiencing reductions due to wax and organic matter plugging near the wellbore. After injecting the biosurfactant, all four wells saw increases in daily oil production rates, with one well's rate doubling from 3.1 to 10.8 barrels of oil per day.

(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery)BERO™biosurfactant has a very strong ability in releasing the hydrocarbon on the surface of reservoir rock particles, and does not form a hydrocarbon emulsification, in theory, BERO™biosurfactant can be used as a good displacing agent, but this proposal remains to be further studied.
After BERO™ biosurfactant is injected into a water injection well, it has the functions of cleaning, oil displacement, stimulation, facilitating drainage, penetration and biological degradation such as preventing organic deposition, so change happens to the reservoir within the retention zone and the passage of injected water flow also changes when BERO™ biosurfactant evenly diffuses in the reservoir, passages with small resistance causing “short-circuit” are influenced, water flow is forced to search for more new passages and the sweep area of water flooding is enlarged, thereby improving water flooding effect and realizing plugging removal and injection reduction.
BERO™ biosurfactant technology can not only greatly improve oil recovery rate, but also greatly reduce water injection and water cut of produced liquid, lower energy and machinery consumption, improve the efficiency of production well systems and prolong workover-free period. The production of crude oil greatly increases while production cost is lowered, so remarkable economic benefit is gained.
As for conventional technologies such as acidification, polymer flooding and fracturing, due to their own limitations, they cannot achieve ideal effect or only have short-term effect and may cause secondary pollution of reservoir.
(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery) application scope of bero™ biosurfactant 2Matt Wu
(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery) BERO™ biosurfactant has the unique characteristic of non-activity, will not be affected by shear degradation, temperature, pressure, acid, alkali and water salinity, and is completely soluble in water and compatible with sewage with any salinity. Therefore, it is commonly used for the cleaning and oil displacement of reservoirs and has wide application scope and prospect. The laboratory experiment on water flooding efficiency shows that the addition of BERO™ biosurfactant into injected water can improve the rate of oil recovery through water flooding by 5%-6% and final oil recovery rate can be improved by about 10%.

(EOR/MEOR/BERO/oil recovery) According to the effect and characteristics of BERO™ biosurfactant and the production need and geological solution of Well Wu 11-7 of Qinghai Oilfield, we carried out the plug removal of this well by using BERO™ biosurfactant in March 2006 and then this well was shut in for 5 days; its daily oil production reached 50.4 BOPD within 7 days after this well resumed production, maintained at about 8.6 BOPD from April 2006 to January 2007 and reached 2.2 BOPD from January 2007 to April 2007. So far, oil production increases by about 2,779 bbls (1608%) on a cumulative basis.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Application of BERO™ Biosurfactant in Yanchang Oilfield and Its Effect
China has relatively mature development and steady production technology for
middle- and high-permeability reservoirs. However, as for low-and ultra
low-permeability reservoirs, oilfield operators face the challenges of slowing
down natural depletion, realizing sustainable steady production of oil wells and
gaining high final recovery rate and economic benefit. Yanchang Oilfield is
located in Ordos Basin and the reserves of ultra low-permeability reservoirs
account for more than 50%. Since such reservoirs have high permeating
resistance and poor formation communication, they are typical complicated oil
and gas reservoirs which are mainly characterized by low porosity, low
permeability and low production and are difficult for recovery.
Application of BERO™ Biosurfactant in Yanchang Oilfield Jingbian Oil
Production Plant and Its Effect
Jingbian Oil Production Plant has been using fracturing method to improve
recovery rate for a long time, but when fracturing method is applied in ultra
low-permeability reservoirs, there is a potential problem that fracturing fluid
flows back difficultly and residual fracturing fluid in reservoir fractures will
cause fluid plugging and lower the permeability of fractures; in addition, the
residual fracturing fluid will result in clay mineral expansion and particle
migration and cause great damage to the reservoirs. Under the condition that
detailed data on Well 45054 and Well 41094 of Yanchang Oilfield Jingbian Oil
Production Plant cannot be acquired, our company only could combine the
data of adjacent wells and calculate based on actual condition and data of
adjacent wells and then applied 1.15m3 of BERO™ biosurfactant in Well
41094 and 1.05m3 of BERO™ biosurfactant in Well 45054.

bounce back. Through one year’s development, the daily liquid production of
this well maintained at 21.6 bbls, water 13 bbls and oil production 8.6 bbls,
indicating that this well maintained at high production stimulation level.
As of July 2007, the crude oil production of these two wells has increased by
5184 bbls on a cumulative basis.
Application of BERO™ Biosurfactant in Yanchang Oilfield Zhiluo Oil
Production Plant and Its Effect
Hu 85, Hu 86 Cong 3, Zhang 228 Cong 2 and Zhang 279 Cong 1 wells of
Yanchang Oilfield Zhiluo Oil Production, analysis result shows that these wells
have sufficient formation energy and production reduction of these wellsare
mainly caused by high wax content of polymers and crude oil and the plugging
of near-wellbore area caused by well flushing conducted recently. BERO™
biosurfactant is characterized in that it has strong ability in releasing
hydrocarbon (oil) on all solid surfaces, is a non-acidizing plugging removal
agent and will not cause secondary contamination to the formation and or
disturb crude oil dehydration and sewage treatment system, so it is used for
full plugging removal according to the production need and the requirements of
geological solution of Hu 85, Hu 86 Cong 3, Zhang 228 Cong 2 and Zhang 279
Cong 1 wells of Yanchang Oilfield Zhiluo Oil Production Plant.
In September 2012, our company conducted plugging removal tests by using
BERO™ biosurfactant on these wells, effectively removed the organic plug of
test wells and restored the oil flowing channels of production wells. The
treatment result is as follows:

As for Well Hu 85, the analysis result shows that the main reason for
production reduction is the plugging of the near-wellbore zone caused by
organic matters such as wax and asphalt contained in crude oil. In September
2012, BERO™ biosurfactant was mixed with formation water and injected in
Well Hu 85 to remove plugging and stimulate production and the temperature
of the injection fluid was above 122℉. During construction, pressure rose from
0 psi to 1450 psi.
After shut-in for 5 days, Well Hu 85 resumed production and then its
production greatly increased. Its daily oil production increased from 0.9 BOPD
to 4.3 BOPD.

As for Well Hu 86 Cong 3, the analysis result shows that the main reason for
production reduction is the plugging of the near-wellbore zone caused by
organic matters such as wax and asphalt contained in crude oil. In September
2012, BERO™ biosurfactant was mixed with formation water and injected in
Well Hu 86 Cong 3 to remove plugging and stimulate production and the
temperature of the injection fluid was above 122℉. During construction,
pressure rose from 0 psi to 1450 psi.
After shut-in for 5 days, Well Hu 86 Cong 3 resumed production and then its
production greatly increased. Its daily oil production increased from 1.9 BOPD
to 5.8 BOPD.
