Ben Howards print advert shows a clear link to his digipack,
because the whole image of the advert is the the CD cover,
for his album ‘Every Kingdom’. This is a very effective
technique because as soon as the audience see’s either the
poster or the album cover, if they are fans of Ben Howard,
the will be able to create the link between the two. This is a
very effective and popular marketing choice.
The advert uses the rule of thirds to gather all the important
pieces of information together in one section in the bottom
centre of the screen, and then leave the rest of the advert
free for the conceptual photo. This rule means that the last
the the audience see is a link to the website to find out
more information.
The first thing the audience is drawn to is the text, which is
the most prominent part of the poster, besides the
signature, which adds a personal touch.
The targeted audience would enjoy the minimalistic design
of this poster (using a uniform font, with a white text colour,
and very little in the way of text). The intended audience
prefer posters that are ambiguous, much like this one that
uses a picture of someone diving in the sea to create that
enigma.
The colour scheme of the soft blues and greens and whites
could be used to suggest a new beginning in the artists life,
and the bright light at the top could suggest that he is
hoping for ‘light’ in his upcoming career in music, as this is
Ben Howards debut album.
