- Every comprehensive mobile strategy for a venue complements an app with a browser-based mobile web product. ClearPass Guest has always made using a venue’s guest wifi easier for the consumer and more secure for the venue’s IT dept. Now, ClearPass has unveiled browser-based advertising in the guest portal experience. Additional Talking points: Customizable registration portal (T&Cs email address, age, sex, zip code, purchasing preferences, App delivery, etc.) Capture user demographics and preferences Look-up existing directories for Wi-Fi login Facebook login integration Use credentials to enforce network policies and securely onboard (staff vs. visitors) One Wi-Fi login for repeat visitors App delivery via guest registration Billing form integration
- Now, in the initial registration page for the guest Wi-Fi, a venue can tailor advertising and notifications to the guest based on their preferences, location, time of day and device. This personalization is an ideal mobile web counterpart to the Meridian-powered notifications from the venue’s app. As an example, a hotel could use this to create awareness and incentivize in-house services to guests, thus increasing share of wallet, or a mall might use this space to help tenants advertise and create a new revenue stream. - Here you can see the cloud-based Meridian Editor interface. It’s easy to use and includes a previewer so that you can see your changes as you go. Any level of staff can manage the content, no IT pros needed.
- When businesses use Meridian to build an app from scratch, the framework allows them to customize and input content, as well as customize colors, images and styles so that it is branded to the venue. The app can be published as a standalone app that users can download from the Apple or Google Play store.
- When building an app with Meridian’s AppMaker, a venue can also add self-guided wayfinding (turn-by-turn directions to points of interest) to their mobile app. This lets users find their way within a venue based on selecting a starting and ending point from a list of options /points of interest. No location services or BLE Beacons are required for this).
- How Self-Guided Wayfinding works: End-user tells the app where they’re starting from (e.g., the lobby) and where they would like to go and can then access turn-by-turn directions. A few happy customers using this technology today: Boston Children’s Hospital, The Venetian Palazzo resort, MTA, Chicago Art Institute, and the Portland Intl. Airport.
- Adding Aruba location services – specifically Aruba Beacons (pictured here, and covered later) - allow apps to become location-aware, that’s to say they are able to deliver granular information based on a mobile-app users position in real-time, users can access directions from their existing location, or find services near their location.
- Good marketing takes advantage of the context of the consumer to make the message relevant, not annoying. And context equals location of the consumer plus their preferences. By adding Aruba location services – powered by Aruba Beacons - apps become location-aware, and this allows a venue’s marketing or IT dept. to create more contextual communications campaigns with this information by triggering a push notification campaign when a guest enters a predefined area in real-time (e.g., A welcome or deal notification near a particular retail department in a store). You can see here, that the campaign is defined and edited within the Meridian Editor dashboard.
- Let’s look at the kind of mobile engagement you can achieve with Aruba’s new solution. Waking up an app with a personalized notification that’s tailored to where a consumer is standing indoors has long been the holy grail for marketers. Now, by leveraging Aruba’s mobile engagement solution, venues can do just that. And we can even tie notifications into a venue’s own customer loyalty program. For example, at Station Casinos’ Red Rock location, we can greet the loyal customer “Nicholas” with a loyalty reward for $45 in casino points. Like many hospitality companies, Station Casinos rewards loyalty for visits and such. Instead of maintaining expensive and antiquated kiosks that long lines can form in front of, Station taps into guests’ existing smart phones to allow guests to check their loyalty points.
- When ecosystems change, agile companies like Aruba adapt. Apple has changed privacy policies: iOS7 prevents collection of phone’s MAC; iOS 8 randomizes it. Apple makes a move, and other handset manufacturers will follow. This poses challenges for network-based solutions like ALE or MSE on consumer engagement use cases, but still works well for analytics use cases. In response, we moved quickly to assess and finalize roadmap for proximity based technologies (Bluetooth Low Energy beacons, FCS: Jan 2015) and we have repositioned ALE for Analytics use cases only. Bluetooth Works well for iOS and new Android devices Bluetooth is less expensive than other hardware approaches
