Business Case Solution - Finals
Primary Education in India
Development of Monitoring System
Solution by Head of Dept. of I.T. – Yash Jain
Goal: Revamping the primary education system in India
Schools should find
a way of improving
the education
system…
1. Key Issues in current education system
 Lack of monitoring
 Lack of Quality in Teaching
 Teacher absenteeism
 Monotonous nature of teaching
 Lack of Career Counseling for students
 Ineffective interaction between parents and teachers
 Low attendance of students
 Less focus for vocational and skill development courses
 Not using the resources in an optimum manner
 Reservation system
 Lack of awareness of importance of education amongst some strata of society
 Weak financial model
Features of Monitoring System
 Staff Monitoring
 Monitoring of Infrastructure Quality
 Teaching Quality
 Office books maintenance
 Food quality monitoring
 Student physical and psychological health
 Government Aid e-monitoring
2. Monitoring System: Development of Mobile App
Developing a mobile application through which a central authority like the ‘State Education
Board’ can directly monitor and control the activities of the schools under its direct preview.
The mobile application will aid the higher authorities to keep a close eye on all the activities of
the school and monitor them in an effective way.
A. Monitoring of Infrastructure Quality
 The central authority can appoint a supervision committee which can keep a close eye on the quality
standards of the schools.
 It can make it mandatory for the supervisor to click the images of the premises of the school and upload it
on the mobile app so that the quality check can be done in real time.
 At the same time, to prevent fraudulent images to be uploaded the data can be approved by the students
and the parents by logging in to the mobile app.
 The supervision committee can also monitor other activities of the school and the members in
the committee should have adequate knowledge and experience to handle the work.
B. Staff Monitoring
 Developing a section in the mobile application which contains the details of all the teaching and the non teaching staff of
the school.
 It should contain the details like name, age, gender, qualification, experience, achievements, etc. These details can be
used to record all the activities of the corresponding staff thereby enabling an effective monitoring of the staff activities.
Attendance:
 Install biometric finger print attendance system in every school to ensure that teachers
arrive and leave at the right time in schools.
 The logs to be maintained in the mobile app and frequent defaulters may be given the
warning and penalized later.
Teaching Duration:
 CCTV Cameras can be installed in the class rooms to keep a close eye on all the activities going
on in the classroom.
 This will help to build an open culture and transparent system in the schools.
C. Teaching Quality
Test videos:
Test videos may be recorded and uploaded on the mobile app to monitor the teaching standard of
the teachers:
 English speaking ability,
 Accent,
 Knowledge,
 Capability, etc.
of the teachers can be monitored by the authorities remotely by watching the videos uploaded on the mobile app.
D. Office Books Maintenance
Attendance Register:
The attendance of the students can be taken on a mobile app and hence the direct record of all
the students attending the school can be maintained on the central app.
Fund Register:
The accounts can be maintained on the app and the cash flow can be easily monitored.
 Cash Payments: To be deposited timely in the bank A/C of the college.
 Direct Bank Transfers: Can be maintained without any hassle.
Inventory Register:
 The non- teaching staff should be instructed to make regular entries of the available
inventory so as to determine when the re-reordering of certain materials has to be done
and better planning may lead to optimum use of the financial resources.
Parents Teacher Meeting:
 Testimonial videos of the parents can be recorded to monitor and track the satisfaction
level of the parents with the general functioning of the schools system.
 There should be a grievance redressal section in the central monitoring application where
all the stake holders can register their complaint through a digital medium.
 Key agenda and solutions of the meeting can be published on the mobile application so that
parents who were unable to attend the meeting can also be aware of the ongoing activities.
E. Food Quality Monitoring
 Strict guidelines should be prepared by an expert panel consisting of dieticians and nutritionists which should be
followed by the school authorities to ensure that healthy, tasty and hygienic food is served to the students of the
school.
 Surprise visits should be conducted by the central authority to ensure that school follows all the guidelines on a
regular basis.
 Complaint redressal system should be developed to make sure that students can solve their grievances by reporting
them to the central authority.
 Image of the kitchen should be uploaded on the mobile app to ensure that hygiene is always maintained.
F. Student Physical and Psychological Health
 Regular physical check ups may be conducted in school to diagnose any possible disorder
amongst children and thus the spread of any contagious diseases may also be prevented.
 For ensuring their psychological health regular sessions of experts on the subjects like:
 Stress Management,
 Personality Development,
 Sex education,
 Financial education, etc. may be conducted.
 Students should be given value based education to make sure that they become not
only good professionals but also good human beings.
 Parents can be made aware about the importance of well balanced diet for maintaining the
good health of the children.
 Awareness regarding good diet, exercise, rest, play, sleep, etc. may be created to ensure
overall development of the students.
G. Government Aid e-monitoring
 Maximum benefits should be used from all the government policies so as to use the
financial resources granted by the government in a judicious and optimum way.
 The central monitoring app may help in keeping track of all the government aid related
activities like various deadlines, keeping track of all the received payments and to be received payments.
3. Improvement Model for Teaching Staff Quality
The teachers should be given the required training to enhance their teaching capabilities.
 Domain knowledge,
 Man management skills,
 Effective teaching pedagogies,
 Holistic development,
 Ability to inculcate feeling of self-motivation amongst students should be developed.
A special training program can be designed by the central authority which can be digitally hosted so that the
teachers even in the remotest part can avail the benefits of the program.
4. Career counseling methodology for students
according to their skills and strengths
Students can be tested on various skills like:
 Linguistic Intelligence, Numerical Intelligence, Spatial Intelligence
 Speed, Accuracy, Interest
 Personality
 Ambition
 Financial Capability
 Family Background
 And accordingly they can be provided different options and various fields of study.
 But it is important that this may just be suggestion and the students must be given complete freedom in
taking the decision regarding their careers.
 Parents should be guided thoroughly through out this process as they play a major role in the career choice
of their children.
5. Parent School Interaction model
 As discussed earlier the mobile application which will be designed may be used to simplify the process of parents
teachers interaction and may act as a better and effective channel of communication between the teachers and the
parents.
 The weekly, monthly, quarterly , half-yearly and annual reports may be submitted to the parents via the app.
 The app can be used to notify the parents regarding all the events, activities and reports of their children.
 All the notices that are put on the notice board can be effectively communicated to the parents by publishing them on
the mobile application.
6. Improving the number of students attending schools on
the regular basis
 Awareness regarding the importance of education should be created in the minds of the parents and the students.
 The classroom environment should be made more student friendly and should encourage students to follow their
different passions apart from studies like sports, music, dance, arts, martial arts, etc.
 If possible fees structure of the school should be revamped so as to make the education more affordable to the masses.
 Scholarships should be started to help the meritorious and deserving students in gaining knowledge.
 Meritorious and deserving students should be rewarded to keep them motivated to perform better.
7. System to identify talents of students
 The training programs for activities like sports, music, dance, yoga, arts, martial arts, etc. should be conducted in
school so that students can explore their interest, ability and passion in these various activities.
 By competing at the school level they can showcase their talent from where the parents, teachers and other elders
can guide them to fruitful careers.
 Students should be given proper infrastructure and if required proper training staff should be appointed to develop
the required skills amongst the students.
 They should be encouraged to take part in national and international competitions and school management should
fund such activities to help the promising talent.
8. Integration of vocational and skill development
courses
 The school activities should be tweaked in such a way that a good optimum balance amongst the curricular and
extra- curricular activities can be achieved and holistic development environment for the students should be
created.
 Industrial visits, field trips, cultural activities, skill development programs should be started to enhance the
learning of the students.
9. Financial model to support all the above activities
 Money is the lubricating factor in any organization.
 Expansion without proper financial planning the organization can be detrimental to the organization.
So the proper funding should be done to smoothly carry out all the activities of the organization.
The financial model of the school should be made self sustainable and less financial burden should be put on the
parents by strategically utilizing the resources of the school in an optimum manner.
Some smart moves to make the financial model of the school self reliant:
 Actively taking part in all the schemes rolled out by the central and the state government so as to avail the
maximum benefits for the welfare of the students.
 Hiring those people who believe more in purpose rather in making money so as to build a culture of excellence
which is not bounded by material gains.
 Forming strategic partnerships with the corporates and thus by having meaningful tie-ups with the sponsors can
create a win-win situation for the educational institute and the parents.
 The central monitoring app can be monetized by allowing advertisements on the apps.
 The school premises can be rented if possible for additional revenue which can be used for betterment of the
infrastructure.
 The school can out source the activities like sports by taking a life time membership in a sports club rather than
spending hefty amounts on the infrastructure and the equipment.
 The school can conduct fund raising activities like plantation ceremony, social camps, etc. where sponsors can be
invited thereby making money which can be wisely used for various activities of the school.
Technology Matrix for Monitoring System
Additional Suggestions…
1. Embracing the RFID Technology for Attendance
Maintenance System
2. Reward Creativity, original thinking,
research and innovation
 Our education system rarely rewards what deserves highest academic accolades.
Deviance is discouraged.
Risk taking is mocked.
 Our testing and marking systems need to be built to recognize original contributions, in form of creativity, problem
solving, valuable original research and innovation.
If we could do this successfully Indian education system would have changed overnight.
 Memorizing is no learning; the biggest flaw in our education system is perhaps that it incentivize memorizing above
originality.
3. Get smarter people to teach
 It is high time to encourage a breed of superstar teachers.
 The internet has created this possibility – the performance of a teacher now need not be restricted to a small classroom.
 Now the performance of a teacher can be opened up for the world to see.
 The better teacher will be more popular, and acquire more students. That’s the way of the future.
 We need leaders, entrepreneurs in teaching positions, not salaried people trying to hold on to their mantle.
4. Implement massive technology
infrastructure for education
 India needs to embrace internet and technology if it has to teach all of its huge population, the majority of which is
located in remote villages.
 Now that we have computers and internet, it makes sense to invest in technological infrastructure that will make access
to knowledge easier than ever. Instead of focusing on outdated models of brick and mortar colleges and universities, we
need to create educational delivery mechanisms that can actually take the wealth of human knowledge to the masses.
 The tools for this dissemination will be cheap smartphones, tablets and computers with high speed internet
connection. While all these are becoming more possible than ever before, there is lot of innovation yet to take place in
this space.
5. Redefine the purpose of education system
 Our education system is still a colonial education system geared towards generating babies and pen-pushers under the
newly acquired skin of modernity.
 We may have the most number of engineering graduates in the world, but that certainly has not translated into much
technological innovation here. Rather, we are busy running the call centers of the rest of the world – that is where our
engineering skills end.
 The goal of our new education system should be to create entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists, thinkers and
writers who can establish the foundation of a knowledge based economy rather than the low-quality service provider
nation that we are turning into.
6. Personalize education – One size
does not fit all
 Assembly line education prepares assembly line workers. However, the drift of economic world is away from assembly
line production. Indian education system is built on the presumption that if something is good for one kid, it is good for all
kids.
 Some kids learn faster, some are comparatively slow. Some people are visual learners, others are auditory learners, and
still some others learn faster from experience.
 If one massive monolithic education system has to provide education to everyone, then there is no option but to assume
that one size fits all. If however, we can effectively decentralize education, and if the government did not obsessively
control what would be the “syllabus” and education personal attention what will be the method of instruction, there
could be an explosion of new and innovative courses geared towards serving various niches of learners.
7. Make reservation irrelevant
 We have reservation in education today because education is not available universally.
 Education has to be rationed. This is not a long –term solution. If we want to emerge as a country build on a
knowledge economy, driven by highly educated people – we need to make good education so universally available
that reservation will lose its meaning.
 There is no reservation in online education – because it scales. Today top universities worldwide are taking various
courses online, and today you can easily attend a live class taught by a top professor of Harvard University online if
you want, no matter which country is belong to. This is the future, this is the easy way to beat reservation and make
it inconsequential.
8. Creating awareness about the environment amongst
the students
 We have to create awareness about the environment and an attitude of caring and sharing of natural resources in the
minds of those children who are the future citizen of our nation.
 The need for environmental education is recognized by all but there is little actual experience or knowledge about the
way to provide it.
 The objective of such education is that individuals and social groups should become aware, acquire knowledge,
develop attitudes, skills and abilities and be able to address real-life environmental problems.
 Integrated inter-disciplinary and holistic education is to be provided to all sections of the population. It would first of
all require a new approach to education itself—an approach which cuts across different subjects in schools and
universities.
Lets hope that India’s
PRIMARY EDUCATION SYSTEM
becomes one of the best in the world
Thank You

Bcs finals solution

  • 1. Team Kalam Business Case Solution - Finals Primary Education in India Development of Monitoring System Solution by Head of Dept. of I.T. – Yash Jain
  • 2. Goal: Revamping the primary education system in India Schools should find a way of improving the education system…
  • 3. 1. Key Issues in current education system  Lack of monitoring  Lack of Quality in Teaching  Teacher absenteeism  Monotonous nature of teaching  Lack of Career Counseling for students  Ineffective interaction between parents and teachers  Low attendance of students  Less focus for vocational and skill development courses  Not using the resources in an optimum manner  Reservation system  Lack of awareness of importance of education amongst some strata of society  Weak financial model
  • 4. Features of Monitoring System  Staff Monitoring  Monitoring of Infrastructure Quality  Teaching Quality  Office books maintenance  Food quality monitoring  Student physical and psychological health  Government Aid e-monitoring
  • 5. 2. Monitoring System: Development of Mobile App Developing a mobile application through which a central authority like the ‘State Education Board’ can directly monitor and control the activities of the schools under its direct preview. The mobile application will aid the higher authorities to keep a close eye on all the activities of the school and monitor them in an effective way. A. Monitoring of Infrastructure Quality  The central authority can appoint a supervision committee which can keep a close eye on the quality standards of the schools.  It can make it mandatory for the supervisor to click the images of the premises of the school and upload it on the mobile app so that the quality check can be done in real time.  At the same time, to prevent fraudulent images to be uploaded the data can be approved by the students and the parents by logging in to the mobile app.  The supervision committee can also monitor other activities of the school and the members in the committee should have adequate knowledge and experience to handle the work.
  • 6. B. Staff Monitoring  Developing a section in the mobile application which contains the details of all the teaching and the non teaching staff of the school.  It should contain the details like name, age, gender, qualification, experience, achievements, etc. These details can be used to record all the activities of the corresponding staff thereby enabling an effective monitoring of the staff activities. Attendance:  Install biometric finger print attendance system in every school to ensure that teachers arrive and leave at the right time in schools.  The logs to be maintained in the mobile app and frequent defaulters may be given the warning and penalized later. Teaching Duration:  CCTV Cameras can be installed in the class rooms to keep a close eye on all the activities going on in the classroom.  This will help to build an open culture and transparent system in the schools.
  • 7. C. Teaching Quality Test videos: Test videos may be recorded and uploaded on the mobile app to monitor the teaching standard of the teachers:  English speaking ability,  Accent,  Knowledge,  Capability, etc. of the teachers can be monitored by the authorities remotely by watching the videos uploaded on the mobile app. D. Office Books Maintenance Attendance Register: The attendance of the students can be taken on a mobile app and hence the direct record of all the students attending the school can be maintained on the central app.
  • 8. Fund Register: The accounts can be maintained on the app and the cash flow can be easily monitored.  Cash Payments: To be deposited timely in the bank A/C of the college.  Direct Bank Transfers: Can be maintained without any hassle. Inventory Register:  The non- teaching staff should be instructed to make regular entries of the available inventory so as to determine when the re-reordering of certain materials has to be done and better planning may lead to optimum use of the financial resources. Parents Teacher Meeting:  Testimonial videos of the parents can be recorded to monitor and track the satisfaction level of the parents with the general functioning of the schools system.  There should be a grievance redressal section in the central monitoring application where all the stake holders can register their complaint through a digital medium.  Key agenda and solutions of the meeting can be published on the mobile application so that parents who were unable to attend the meeting can also be aware of the ongoing activities.
  • 9. E. Food Quality Monitoring  Strict guidelines should be prepared by an expert panel consisting of dieticians and nutritionists which should be followed by the school authorities to ensure that healthy, tasty and hygienic food is served to the students of the school.  Surprise visits should be conducted by the central authority to ensure that school follows all the guidelines on a regular basis.  Complaint redressal system should be developed to make sure that students can solve their grievances by reporting them to the central authority.  Image of the kitchen should be uploaded on the mobile app to ensure that hygiene is always maintained.
  • 10. F. Student Physical and Psychological Health  Regular physical check ups may be conducted in school to diagnose any possible disorder amongst children and thus the spread of any contagious diseases may also be prevented.  For ensuring their psychological health regular sessions of experts on the subjects like:  Stress Management,  Personality Development,  Sex education,  Financial education, etc. may be conducted.  Students should be given value based education to make sure that they become not only good professionals but also good human beings.  Parents can be made aware about the importance of well balanced diet for maintaining the good health of the children.  Awareness regarding good diet, exercise, rest, play, sleep, etc. may be created to ensure overall development of the students.
  • 11. G. Government Aid e-monitoring  Maximum benefits should be used from all the government policies so as to use the financial resources granted by the government in a judicious and optimum way.  The central monitoring app may help in keeping track of all the government aid related activities like various deadlines, keeping track of all the received payments and to be received payments. 3. Improvement Model for Teaching Staff Quality The teachers should be given the required training to enhance their teaching capabilities.  Domain knowledge,  Man management skills,  Effective teaching pedagogies,  Holistic development,  Ability to inculcate feeling of self-motivation amongst students should be developed. A special training program can be designed by the central authority which can be digitally hosted so that the teachers even in the remotest part can avail the benefits of the program.
  • 12. 4. Career counseling methodology for students according to their skills and strengths Students can be tested on various skills like:  Linguistic Intelligence, Numerical Intelligence, Spatial Intelligence  Speed, Accuracy, Interest  Personality  Ambition  Financial Capability  Family Background  And accordingly they can be provided different options and various fields of study.  But it is important that this may just be suggestion and the students must be given complete freedom in taking the decision regarding their careers.  Parents should be guided thoroughly through out this process as they play a major role in the career choice of their children.
  • 13. 5. Parent School Interaction model  As discussed earlier the mobile application which will be designed may be used to simplify the process of parents teachers interaction and may act as a better and effective channel of communication between the teachers and the parents.  The weekly, monthly, quarterly , half-yearly and annual reports may be submitted to the parents via the app.  The app can be used to notify the parents regarding all the events, activities and reports of their children.  All the notices that are put on the notice board can be effectively communicated to the parents by publishing them on the mobile application.
  • 14. 6. Improving the number of students attending schools on the regular basis  Awareness regarding the importance of education should be created in the minds of the parents and the students.  The classroom environment should be made more student friendly and should encourage students to follow their different passions apart from studies like sports, music, dance, arts, martial arts, etc.  If possible fees structure of the school should be revamped so as to make the education more affordable to the masses.  Scholarships should be started to help the meritorious and deserving students in gaining knowledge.  Meritorious and deserving students should be rewarded to keep them motivated to perform better.
  • 15. 7. System to identify talents of students  The training programs for activities like sports, music, dance, yoga, arts, martial arts, etc. should be conducted in school so that students can explore their interest, ability and passion in these various activities.  By competing at the school level they can showcase their talent from where the parents, teachers and other elders can guide them to fruitful careers.  Students should be given proper infrastructure and if required proper training staff should be appointed to develop the required skills amongst the students.  They should be encouraged to take part in national and international competitions and school management should fund such activities to help the promising talent.
  • 16. 8. Integration of vocational and skill development courses  The school activities should be tweaked in such a way that a good optimum balance amongst the curricular and extra- curricular activities can be achieved and holistic development environment for the students should be created.  Industrial visits, field trips, cultural activities, skill development programs should be started to enhance the learning of the students.
  • 17. 9. Financial model to support all the above activities  Money is the lubricating factor in any organization.  Expansion without proper financial planning the organization can be detrimental to the organization. So the proper funding should be done to smoothly carry out all the activities of the organization. The financial model of the school should be made self sustainable and less financial burden should be put on the parents by strategically utilizing the resources of the school in an optimum manner.
  • 18. Some smart moves to make the financial model of the school self reliant:  Actively taking part in all the schemes rolled out by the central and the state government so as to avail the maximum benefits for the welfare of the students.  Hiring those people who believe more in purpose rather in making money so as to build a culture of excellence which is not bounded by material gains.  Forming strategic partnerships with the corporates and thus by having meaningful tie-ups with the sponsors can create a win-win situation for the educational institute and the parents.  The central monitoring app can be monetized by allowing advertisements on the apps.  The school premises can be rented if possible for additional revenue which can be used for betterment of the infrastructure.  The school can out source the activities like sports by taking a life time membership in a sports club rather than spending hefty amounts on the infrastructure and the equipment.  The school can conduct fund raising activities like plantation ceremony, social camps, etc. where sponsors can be invited thereby making money which can be wisely used for various activities of the school.
  • 19. Technology Matrix for Monitoring System
  • 21. 1. Embracing the RFID Technology for Attendance Maintenance System
  • 22. 2. Reward Creativity, original thinking, research and innovation  Our education system rarely rewards what deserves highest academic accolades. Deviance is discouraged. Risk taking is mocked.  Our testing and marking systems need to be built to recognize original contributions, in form of creativity, problem solving, valuable original research and innovation. If we could do this successfully Indian education system would have changed overnight.  Memorizing is no learning; the biggest flaw in our education system is perhaps that it incentivize memorizing above originality.
  • 23. 3. Get smarter people to teach  It is high time to encourage a breed of superstar teachers.
  • 24. 4. Implement massive technology infrastructure for education  India needs to embrace internet and technology if it has to teach all of its huge population, the majority of which is located in remote villages.  Now that we have computers and internet, it makes sense to invest in technological infrastructure that will make access to knowledge easier than ever. Instead of focusing on outdated models of brick and mortar colleges and universities, we need to create educational delivery mechanisms that can actually take the wealth of human knowledge to the masses.  The tools for this dissemination will be cheap smartphones, tablets and computers with high speed internet connection. While all these are becoming more possible than ever before, there is lot of innovation yet to take place in this space.
  • 25. 5. Redefine the purpose of education system  Our education system is still a colonial education system geared towards generating babies and pen-pushers under the newly acquired skin of modernity.  We may have the most number of engineering graduates in the world, but that certainly has not translated into much technological innovation here. Rather, we are busy running the call centers of the rest of the world – that is where our engineering skills end.  The goal of our new education system should be to create entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists, thinkers and writers who can establish the foundation of a knowledge based economy rather than the low-quality service provider nation that we are turning into.
  • 26. 6. Personalize education – One size does not fit all  Assembly line education prepares assembly line workers. However, the drift of economic world is away from assembly line production. Indian education system is built on the presumption that if something is good for one kid, it is good for all kids.  Some kids learn faster, some are comparatively slow. Some people are visual learners, others are auditory learners, and still some others learn faster from experience.  If one massive monolithic education system has to provide education to everyone, then there is no option but to assume that one size fits all. If however, we can effectively decentralize education, and if the government did not obsessively control what would be the “syllabus” and education personal attention what will be the method of instruction, there could be an explosion of new and innovative courses geared towards serving various niches of learners.
  • 27. 7. Make reservation irrelevant  We have reservation in education today because education is not available universally.  Education has to be rationed. This is not a long –term solution. If we want to emerge as a country build on a knowledge economy, driven by highly educated people – we need to make good education so universally available that reservation will lose its meaning.  There is no reservation in online education – because it scales. Today top universities worldwide are taking various courses online, and today you can easily attend a live class taught by a top professor of Harvard University online if you want, no matter which country is belong to. This is the future, this is the easy way to beat reservation and make it inconsequential.
  • 28. 8. Creating awareness about the environment amongst the students  We have to create awareness about the environment and an attitude of caring and sharing of natural resources in the minds of those children who are the future citizen of our nation.  The need for environmental education is recognized by all but there is little actual experience or knowledge about the way to provide it.  The objective of such education is that individuals and social groups should become aware, acquire knowledge, develop attitudes, skills and abilities and be able to address real-life environmental problems.  Integrated inter-disciplinary and holistic education is to be provided to all sections of the population. It would first of all require a new approach to education itself—an approach which cuts across different subjects in schools and universities.
  • 29. Lets hope that India’s PRIMARY EDUCATION SYSTEM becomes one of the best in the world Thank You
