Internet of Things:What is this
“Thing” supposed to do?
The “Thing” may provide
Identification and info storage(RFID tags, MAC (Media access control) address)
Information collection (Sensor networks, store sensor values)
Information processing(Understanding commands, filtering data)
Communications (Transmit and receive messages)
Actuation (Switch control, motor control)
It means adding an embedded device to  say a chair, window, ceiling fan or bulb for them
to have theses capabilities.
Some systems which already have the above
features: Can you think of any?

How do we make these
“Things”?

Editor's Notes

  • #6 Timing: 10mins Script short : Problems we are looking to solve should have some of the above characteristics. Script Long : “There are certain key characteristics that make a problem a problem, and worth solving with a IoT, they are… A problem should be… Familiar: They effect either real people you know (and can name), or yourself - you should be able to name 3 people that you know personally who have the problerm Frequent: They happen often enough to justify a solution - Specific: They have a clearly defined story you can tell – You should be able to tell a story that includes the problem Irritant: They often get on somebody’s nerves – If its not annoying its probably not even a problem. It may sound obvious but sometime people try to create solutions to problem that do not even exist. Expensive: What you forfeit if you don’t have a solution is pretty high -could be money, time ,friends etc Mobile: They occur on the go in unpredictable times and places.- if the problem occurs while you're by you pc, you may prefer to just find an online solution”
