Archetypes Of Dark In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451
Take a look at any timeless movie like the Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Marvel superhero series. In each
of these movies, a villain dressed in long black robes, with a corruptive smirk and mind uses their
malicious powers to battle relentlessly with the force of the hero, the strongest and at times, the most
kind hearted character in the film. In these films, Luke fights Vader, Harry battles Voldemort, and
Spider Man combats against his villains. In the end, the hero is praised for bringing peace by restoring
their community from the depths of darkness. Even in these classic movies, the archetype of light vs.
dark is incorporated through it s heroic and villainous characters. Similarly, Ray Bradbury
incorporates this archetype into his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By giving Montag the inspiration and understanding to use his mind to think for his own, Montag is
able to become more powerful due to his intellect. He is now seen as a character who doesn t get
brainwashed by the government and has his individual thought, allowing him to escape from this
controlled society. Also, when Clarisse rubs the bright yellow dandelion on her chin, she s yellow
under there (19), proving that she s in love (19). Unlike the other characters in the novel, Clarisse has
emotions such as love, satisfaction, and happiness. The dandelion rubbing color on her illustrates how
she is able to express these emotions and is an overall ray of light towards others. Clarisse uses the
dandelion to prove to Montag that he lacks these qualities of lovingness and happiness in his life,
which ignites his self revelation. She is a symbol of light since she is aware of her surroundings by
being able to think and has a bright personality, as seen through the dandelions. Clarisse is able to use
her curiosity to help others see the world through their own eyes, not what the government or parlor
walls want them to. On the other hand, Mildred is contrasted to be the character that is lost in the dark
side for her lack of thought to escape. To further implement Mildred s character, Bradbury describes
her room as if it was like coming into the cold marble room of a mausoleum ... complete darkness, not
a hint of the silver world

Allegory In Veidt s Watchmen Moore And Gibbons
In Watchmen, Moore and Gibbons have a few subplots branching off of the main story. One of these
subplots centers on a newsvendor in New York City. A boy sitting close by is reading a pirate comic
book, and as the story moves forward, various panels and pieces of text from this comic interposed
with the real storyline. In this passage of Watchmen Moore and Gibbons utilize the gritty allegory of
the Sea Captain in the Black Freighter to foreshadow the ending of the graphic novel and to give the
reader more insight to the question raised throughout the entire story: Who watches the Watchmen?
On page nine of chapter five, the first thing the reader sees is the other comic in the Watchmen s
universe, the Black Freighter. The overarching plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the key themes from Watchmen. The Watchmen, who use their time and effort attacking
people who they believe to be the cause of the recent murders, make hasty determinations of
culpability and impose their vigilante execution without any foresight were doomed to make mistakes.
And, in defending the innocents, this raises the questions: how many mistakes will be tolerated before
one is considered villainous? How many innocent civilians can one harm without becoming the very
monster being fought against? Moore and Gibbons were using the Watchmen not as a case for the
necessity for people to take justice upon themselves but to show the idea that vigilantes are essentially
destined to turn into the villains they fight against. The main story is the example of the message
contained within the Tales of the Black

The Two Principles Of A Basis Of Our Brain Capacity,...
Tiraj Lucas
Professor Onishi
Philosophy 229
March 5th, 2017
INTRODUCTION
The problem at hand is that majority humans believe we are superior to non human animals on the
basis of our brain capacity, ability, and preferences of life. The two principles of consequentialism I
plan to work with is the two that consequentialism are based on: 1. Whether an act is right or wrong
depends only on the results of that act. 2. The better consequences an act produces, the better or more
right that act. These two principles play a part in non human animal inequality because it emphasizes
that a person should choose the action that maximizes the good of consequences for all living beings.
If we apply the first principle we could conclude that non human ... Show more content on

Another argument is that it is believed to natural and ancestral for humans to eat non human animals.
Neverless, in cavemen days their life span was much shorter, they did not kill nearly as many animals
that are killed today in factory farming, they ate for survival, and their diets consisted of fruits and
vegetables; not McDonalds and steroid induced animals. Humans are the only species in the animal
kingdom who have to cook and season their meat before eating it. We do not salivate naturally at the
sight of raw meat like real carnivores do. We would get food poisoning, salmonella, e.coli, mad cow
disease, norovirus, trichinosis, etc, when we ever did eat raw or unhealthy meat. Yet somehow there
are people who think our human species hasn t evolved passed the need to eat meat to survive phase,
and continue to use ancestral history as an illogical reason to continue to contribute to suffering and
environmental atrocities. Non human animal equality is not only an ignored environmental issue but
an ignored social issue, resulting in another form of racism or sexism by the name of speciesism.
Speciesm is the idea that being human is a good enough reason for human animals to have greater
moral rights than non human animals. A prejudice or bias in favor of the interests

Best Features Of The Apple Watch
Best Features of the Apple Watch Introduction Innovation and ingenuity are pertinent to the success of
any modern piece of technology. Maintaining viability requires thinking outside the box and linking

distributed and accessed on your Apple watch as on other iOS devices. 3. Synchronizes This new
novelty beams messages and updates from the more popular social media sites such as Facebook. It
mitigates the need to regularly check other mobile devices for notifications as they come right to the

remain concealed, whether in a bag or pocket and still be conveniently at hand through this device. 5.
Shape It has been designed with a classic rectangular design, softened out by the integration of
rounded edges, a single button and a knob. The placement of the button makes it an easy controller for
the device. 6. Time Keeping and More This new phenomenon will move beyond keeping excellent
time. It also maintains the time and dates that are pertinent in your life for each day e.g. Reminding
you of the anniversary dinner and your child s ballet recital. This again is done on the screen of the
watch, which reminds you without distracting you too much from any other activity that you may be
engaged in. 7. Time Detection The Apple Watch was designed to continually check and align its time
with the definite global time found in GPS satellites. It has the design capabilities to adjust for
daylight savings time without any adjustments by the consumer; it simply does the work for you. This

Compare And Contrast Circe s Power And One Art
Being confident can sometimes get you through tough times but sometimes can make others think you
re conceited. Being resilient helps you to move on through tough times. Being direct can help you to
get a point across. In One Art by Elizabeth Bishop, the speaker is someone who has lost but moves on.
In Circe s Power by Louise Gluck, the speaker is Circe and on his journey, Odysseus and his men
came upon her, and she turned them into pigs. In One Art by Elizabeth Bishop and Circe s Power by
Louise Gluck, both speakers have a confident tone towards their audiences. On the other hand in One

The speaker s tone in One Art is confident towards a loved one because they know that they will be
able to move on in their life. When the speaker is giving advice to the audience, the speaker says,
None of these will bring disaster. (Bishop line 9). This proves that the speaker knows that everything
will be all right. The words disaster means something very bad so the speaker knows that nothing bad
will happen. The speaker is confident because they know that nothing absolutely terrible will happen.
When the speaker is talking to the audience, the speaker says, It s evident / the art of losing s not too

words not too hard to master means that the speaker has gotten used to loss. The speaker has a

Enormouse Wealth of CEO s
Let me start off by saying 2.27 billion. What does that make you think of? Some of you may think it is
the population of a specific continent? Others may think it is the amount of petroleum being drilled
for. I am sure none of you would have guessed it was the amount of money Mark Zuckerburg, the
creator of Facebook, made in one year. Executive compensation is bonuses and benefits given to CEO
s of companies on top of the base salary they are receiving. The amount, as you see, can be
astronomical which will lead one to question the ethics of employee compensation programs. While it
may motivate some people to perform better so they may increase stockholders wealth, it may also
have an adverse effect on the executive which will have an effect on the entire company as was the
case with Enron. I am taking up Business Economics and Research has led me to the conclusion that
employee compensation is unethical, detrimental to the health of companies, and disadvantageous to
the entire economy. Executive compensation is a form of financial compensation that is determined by
the compensation committee. The compensation committee sets the package so it correlates with
factors that have an effect on the company. According to an economic theory known as the Optimal
Contracting Theory. , top executives and shareholders negotiate through the board of directors to

What Does Douglass Tell Us During General About Slave Life...
1. What does Douglass tell us in general about slave life on a large plantation? What does he say about
slave childhood?
In general, Douglass describes slave life on a large plantation as harsh and cruel. As a child he was an
eyewitness to a Bloody Transaction . Douglass wrote often been awakened at the dawn of day by the
most heart rending shrieks of an own aunt of mine, whom he used to tie up to a joist, and whip upon
her naked back till she was literally covered with blood. No words, no tears, no prayers, from his gory
victim, seemed to move his iron heart from its bloody purpose. The louder she screamed, the harder he
whipped; and where the blood ran fastest, there he whipped longest. He would whip her to make her
scream, and whip her to make her hush; and not until overcome by fatigue, would he cease to swing
the blood clotted cow skin. I remember the first time I ever witnessed this horrible exhibition. I was
quite a child, but I well remember it. (Douglass, 4) This quote demonstrates the cruelty slaves endured
on a large plantation. Slave children were unable to work so they were allowed two coarse linen shirts
per year and after they were worn out they would be naked. Slave children had a lot of leisure time.
Douglass describes his daily activities as a child I lived on Colonel Lloyd s plantation, it was very
similar to that of the other slave children. I was not old enough to work in the field, and there being

Coal Mining In West Virginia Essay
Before 1890 in West Virginia, you would not be able to see any signs of coal mining. However, after
1890 coal mining surged due to new legislative representatives favoring the use of land in an
industrial sense. Coal mining was now dominating the southern region of West Virginia. In the
beginning, coal mining did not seem to have many effects on the people or land; but, eventually
people became very aware of the negative consequences that came from coal mining. People are now
aware that coal mining in West Virginia was almost entirely detrimental to the environment as well as
the community. Throughout West Virginia, everyone agreed there was a large amount of air pollution
from coal mines. These air pollutants were so bad in the 1990s that the Clean Air Act was enacted.
However, this act had unforeseen consequences of its own. Coal companies began to need much more
readily available coal. So, they mined coal that was closer to the surface by using mountaintop
removal. This resulted in a decrease in jobs for miners because this was a much easier and efficient
way of removing coal. The many jobs that were originally created by coal mining were now being cut.
Now numerous people in West Virginia were left unemployed. ... Show more content on

Gibbons Book Report
In this monograph The Gibbons of Khao Yai, Thad Q Bartlett records all of his own notes about the
small apes, also known as the gibbons, in their own natural habitat in the national park of Khao Yai,
Thailand. Before he wrote this book, primatologists had hypothesized about a correlation between
territoriality and monogamy in the gibbons and believed that it was due to the small fruiting trees and
figs. Bartlett had taken an interest in the gibbons, and made a goal to contradict this hypothesis by
studying the gibbons up close, and better understand how the availability of food affected their
behaviors and ecology. Bartlett began his field study by focusing on the fauna and environment that
they live in, which was the Mo Singto study area. Gibbons are known as mostly frugivorous primates,
as they mainly thrive on figs and leaves, but Bartlett noted that gibbons could also supplement
themselves with insects and leaves, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gibbons had shown to have friendly encounters with other gibbons when other resources like
insects, leaves and ripe fruit were available. Although, when the fruit was scarce, they displayed more
territorial tendencies, and the encounters became more hostile and agonistic. These observations are
what led to the suggestion of resource defense being an important aspect of territoriality in gibbons
(pg. 119). Regarding the uniqueness of their monogamous lifestyle, Bartlett mainly referred to the
predictions from other primatologists about how gibbons live in their small groups. He referred to
Wright s predictions in particular about how the gibbons created their own small groups for the sake
of having enough food resources. Eventually, Bartlett came to his own conclusion in that the gibbons
monogamy were likely out of a dietary preference for rare but stable resources (Bartlett: ??? pg.

FAFSA is one of the main sources that students apply for to receive federal student aid. However,
there are a lot of students like myself who are not qualified to receive financial aid and are only

loans because other bills come up which result in having to extend their loan payment. Making an
extension to loans means that there is a chance of paying an charge interest which basically means the
longer it takes to pay, the more money you have to owe. Also, students who have grown up in a
middle class family are seen as being able to afford college. However, in today s society, there are
some middle class families that can not afford college because they do not have the extra money. One
of the main issue on the FAFSA is being considered an independent student because it does not mean

human nature. Group influence, a distracted society, and group influence can corrupt a man. With that
said, innocence is only temporary.
Ordinarily, individuals are born innocent, although man signify corruption by society through group
influence. For example, a text in a Newsela article reads I ransacked. I pillaged. I took people s things
by force. ( In a war, children without a childhood 1) For instance, in Lord of the Flies, the littluns
chanted, Kill the beast! Cut its throat! Spill the blood! (Golding 52) You all already see that these kids
are brainwashed by Jack. When society changes, innocence becomes lost. Overall, people around you
can affect who you become.
Moreover, is a corruption of a distracted society. Ralph is left, holding the conch, with no one but
Piggy. (Golding 38) The littluns didn t realize that they were becoming more savage each day. They
were unaware and too distracted by other implements in order towards noticing what they re turning
into. In an article, a man said Please, God, protect my family. (Kyle Hopkins 2) The family was at risk
for turbulence. The man knew of the situation, but the rest of the family was oblivious of, to the reality
from the outside. Distractions expose the benevolent and inadequate in all people.
In addition to the topic, fear causes the loss of innocence leading towards corruption. My dignity was
on the floor having to grab a piece of my dead friend and eat it in order to survive. ( I had to eat a
piece of my friend to survive 1) The man bespeaks terror onto death, remarkably he did something
inhuman in order for him to survive on the frontier. To illustrate this theme, the text in LOTF says
...great shuddering spasms of grief that seemed to wrench his whole body. (Golding 202) This is
significant because it shows that the boys fear the guilt. The boys then realize what they what they ve
done, who ve they killed and what atrocities they ve committed. In other hands, it illustrates that a
man can switch up his morals when he s scared.

Criticize The Onion
The retail industry is a very competitive business to partake in. Companies will do anything to gain
the attention and respect of a new customer. Advertising plays a big role in helping companies achieve
these goals. The onion, a satirical website, released a mock press release that satirizes easily fooled
customers through humor and meticulous mocking, in order to expose the phony marketing strategies
companies use to allure customers. The onion takes the time to ridicule both sides of the advertising
spectrum such as the consumers and advertisers. In the article, the doctors in the press release break
down the so called science that goes into the Magna sole inserts. They claim that, Magna Soles
convert the wearer s own energy to match the Earth s natural vibrational rate (line 46 48). This line
was written by The Onion, to mock how advertisers will throw out complex scientific terms and facts
to assure possible customers that this is the product for them. The Doctors continues by saying that

However, not only do they criticize them, they also criticize the consumers. For example, In the article

an intelligent looking man in a white lab coat (lines 65 68). The Onion writes this line to make a
caricature of gullible consumers who are only convinced by what they see, and only that. The Onion
reveals that ethos play a big part of today s marketing strategies. The customer continues to say,
Magna soles really seem like they re working (line 69). In this line, it is made evident that some
consumers fail to truly dig deep into the facts before they purchase a product. The naiveness of the
consumer, and how they are only merely convinced by what they are shown, is highly zoomed in

Analysis Of The Film Whiplash
Stage 1 English
Responding To Texts: Film Study
How do the cinematic techniques (mise en scène, cinematography, editing, and sound design) work
together in the selected scene or sequence to develop the film s central characters and themes?
Damien Chazelle s Whiplash (2014) follows Andrew Neiman, a fame driven drummer joins the studio
band at a prestigious music school, Shaffer Conservatory where he is acquainted with the
manipulative and vigorous Terence Fletcher who pushes him to his limits. The salient themes of
volatile and manipulative student teacher relationship, overcoming adversity and relentless pursuit of
perfection are accentuated through cinematic techniques such as mise en scène, cinematography, and
sound design and editing. The scene which exemplifies these themes are when Andrew Neiman is
competing against two drummers, Ryan Connolly and Carl Tanner, to earn the part of becoming the
main drummer of a jazz composition called Caravan (1936) composed by Duke Ellington.
Chazelle s usage of mise en scène is used to demonstrate the important theme of volatile and
manipulative student teacher relationship. The dimly lit room is representative of Fletchers
personality, throughout the film Fletcher is portrayed as a manipulative teacher who would go out to
any means to get what he desires. The costumes used in this scene are vital to express the volatile
relationship between Fletcher and his students. During this scene, Connolly is the only drummer to be

Many believe that all of the hard work starts early. Like the saying says he early bird gets the worm.
But is that all that sport is really about? I use to think that the answer to that question was yes! I feel
that there are more disadvantages to sport specialization than there are advantages. Do you realize that

I feel that is good for kid s to be involved in sports but sometimes parents push kid s to participate.
Between practice, games and travel time, there is not much free time for family time, play time or
study time. They need time to play with friends and develop social skills outside of organized sports.
Do not turn them into a workhorse. Realize that you cannot live your dreams through your child, and
that they have dreams of their own. A parent should help a child set performance goals and develop a
winning perspective and strive to instill a healthy level of competition. If kids don t try other sports,
how do they know whether or not they might like those sports more or be better at them? For many
athletes their bodies are not completely developed. By playing at the speed of the higher conditioned
and developed players in the professional league, young underdeveloped athletes run the risk of
suffering an early career ending injury. These opportunities, though, come at a cost. While young
athletes are participating in intensive sporting education, their academic education may be neglected.
Age effects take a greater approach to the physical side of the sports people body, as the older the

Who Is The Ford Mustang Commercial
Because of my love for the Ford Mustang, I chose a Ford Mustang commercial for this assignment.
The commercials premise is unsuspecting men meet a beautiful woman in a coffee shop for a blind
date, the woman purposely projects a non adventurous persona. At the conclusion of the coffee date,
the woman offers to give them a ride home in her Ford Mustang. Initially during the drive home the
woman pretends she is not familiar with driving the car, most of the men offer her instructions and one
suggests that she let him drive to show her what the car can really do. Shortly into the drive home, she
pulls into an empty parking lot and really pushes the car to the limits. She performs a multitude of
highly skilled maneuvers, burnouts, high speed stopping, drifting, etc. What all of these men did not
know is this woman is actually a professional stunt driver and is more than capable of driving this
powerful vehicle. The men s reactions were hilarious. Most of them seemed to enjoy the adrenaline
fueled ride, while others looked horrified sitting in the passenger seat. Being a bit of an adrenaline
junky myself, I really enjoyed this advertisement. I could feel my adrenaline rising as she was

Conquest Of New Mexico Essay
Conquest is defined as the control of a place or people by use of force. Colonization occurs when
more species populate an area. After the Mexican American war the Mexican border went up in San

national patterns of change and development. The conquest of New Mexico and the Unites Sates
Southwest now had distinguishable contradictions and tensions.
In 1519 Spanish arrived in Mexico and further fought in the Spanish American war in 1898. Latinos
were racially considered contaminated, cowardly, and outlawed. The conquest of New Mexico started
when the king declared that land was now open for settlement. The first official Spanish colony

Pueblo Indians reacted. They traveled to New Mexico killing enslaved perceived leaders, destroying
tribal s sacred locations, burning villages, and demolishing their culture by tearing down work
routines, gender roles, and catholic practices. Mexico was too strong to face alone that allowed
success in the Pueblo revolt 1598, creating a force of multiple democracies against Mexico. The
process of colonization began.

Whenever I start to talk about my breeding/showing program, people automatically jump to the

Analyzing Audit And Fraud Risks
Analyzing Audit and Fraud Risks
Audit risk, as defined in SAS No. 47, under Audit Risk and Materiality in Conducting an Audit , is the
kind of risk that an auditor may unknowingly take by failing to make corrections as per their opinions
on financial statements that are materially misstated (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). SAS represents
audit risk in the form of a model that comprises three different risks. There is the control risk, the
inherent risk and detection risk. This is known as the Audit Risk Model (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur
34).
As a way of increasing awareness of possible fraud, SAS No. 82 Consideration of Fraud in a Financial
Statement Audit , was issued in 1997 (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). This SAS does not modify the
basic ARM, but it expands on the guidance for the auditor s consideration of material fraud in
conducting financial statement audits. The SAS increases an auditor s ability to detect fraud in an
organization.
Since the issuance of SAS No. 47, many other approaches of developing the ARM have been issued
(Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). One such approach is the belief function framework that is used to
model the audit planning and evaluation process for accounts receivable. While using such an
approach, it is easier to demonstrate the viability of the auditors. The approach also serves as an expert
system to automate belief functions propagations in networks. More so, sensitivity analyses have been

Judicial Reform Act 2005 Essay
Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary should be separate of the legislative and
executive branches of government. It can be argued that to a moderate extent the Constitutional
Reform Act 2005 and Courts and Crime Act 2013 do enforce and protect judicial independence.
Evidence is provided within sections s.3 and s.7 of CRA 2005 along with the reforms introduced by
the Act. Other acts such as the Act of Settlement 1701 also safeguards independence.
Dame Mary Arden argued that judicial independence involved at least two things being the judge in

This enforces independence because it allows the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice to handle
complaints about discipline and conduct with the help of solely the Ombudsman meaning they are not
being assisted by anyone else. The JACO also protects independence for this exact reason.
One important amendment made by the Crime and Courts Act 2013 is that the Lord Chancellor s
powers to accept, reject or ask for reconsideration of recommendations for judicial appointments
below the High Court have been transferred to the Lord Chief Justice . This means the LC would then
focus on the more senior judicial positions. As the LCJ is not a political executive this would enforce
independence as the branches of government would continue to stay separate and allow judicial
diversity, which was a goal of the JAC s .
However, the Act of Settlement 1701 guarantees independence as it gives senior judges security of

There are a number of barriers to professional development within my role and a number of things
which you need to think about when booking/planning training for your staff. I have outlined the
potential barriers which I am likely to face within my role: * Lack of funding to access training * Lack
of staff to cover training * Courses being cancelled by organisation * No time * No
support/encouragement from your manager * General lack of appropriate training which you require *
No one to acknowledge your training needs through supervisions and appraisals * No confidence or
drive to strive for better * Transport (do not drive, no bus routes etc) * Lack of childcare (or unable to

Do Video Games Cause Violence And How Does Video Games...
Many people think video games can cause violence. Most of the people reading this would say yes,
that video games do cause violence because a lot of times you see video games connect with violence
on the news, but how often are video games the main reason that the act of violence someone caused
happened. But what is video game violence and how do these scientists classify it? Most importantly
how do you measure aggression? There have been 300 studies give or take between 2005 to 2013. That
s on average 37.5 studies per year over eight years. Yet none has yielded a good answer on if video
games cause violence or not. When it comes down to the risk factors of violence ¨no single risk factor
consistently leads a person to act out their aggression.¨(Tibi Puiu) Most of these studies were on a time
of two to three hours a day. Along with all of these studies there have been four meta analysis. Meta
analysis is a statistical analysis that combines groups of similar data usually to show the effect size.
With all of this data surely the world would get a good firm answer. Nope, the research has yet to
show a causal relationship. Among kids between the ages of 12 and 17 97% play some sort of game
with violence. (Susan Scuttl) Now violent games can be seen as violent by one person and nonviolent
by another. It s all on perspective People who want to blame video games for real life violence point to
a literary that a person would believe supplies evidence to the association. Counter claim can be
reading a sad book would lead a person to sad thoughts but people say that this doesn t cause
depression. Dr. Christopher Ferguson a professor at Stetson University studies 103 young adults who
were randomized to play no video game, a non violent video game, a violent where they played the
good guy, and a violent video game where they played the bad guy . He found that those kids who had
history of playing violent video games had fewer hostile feeling during a frustration test. Dr.Ferguson
also said that most of the people that show any type of negative thoughts on modern media are much
much older. With that quote most of these so called experiments that show that there a definitive link
between violent behavior and

Spread of United States Culture through Technology Essay
Abstract
In today s society, the way in which information is spread drastically differs from that of yesterday,
especially in different parts of the world more specifically, the Commonwealth of Nations.
As the United States continues to dominate almost every aspect of the world, including culture, many
different nations scurry to keep up with them, sometimes adopting an identity which is in great
contrast to their own, and in many cases, shadow their own identity as a whole. With the ever
advancing technology, the spreading of U.S. culture seems to be easier, and this has many countries
worried. Hence, a reason or need to censor what enters the country via print, airwaves or Internet.

Some governments are uncomfortable with the fact that the United States seems to pose a better
lifestyle to their people and try to limit the amount of American shows imported, or the amount of
time the shows are viewed.
In Jamaica, for instance, there is currently one local television station, the JBC (Jamaica Broadcasting
Corporation). However, it does not broadcast until late afternoon (around 4 or 5 o clock). The first half
hour is cartoons (imported from the United States). Then, for the next two to three hours there is
nothing but local programs, including news, gardening and cooking shows, local sitcoms, the most
popular being Lime Tree Lane, Titus, and the long running Oliver at Large, all of which contain
Jamaican actors. The quality of the shows is shoddy mainly because there is not much of a budget and
resources are limited.
Most of the citizens especially those without a satellite do not see an American on television until later
in the evening (around 8 or 9 o clock), and it is only for a couple of hours, as the station quits
broadcasting for the day at around 11. The government does this in an attempt to lessen the influence
of American culture on their society.
In the Bahamas the story is a little different. There is one local television station, ZNS (Zephyr Nassau
Sunshine), however, most people own satellites and antennae, allowing them to receive more stations.
The government sees nothing wrong with this, and to some

Experiential Learning Experience Paper
Experiential Learning Activity
The experiential learning activity I will be participating in is attending Mass at a Catholic church. In
attending this experience, I hope to better understand the spiritual needs of a Catholic individual so I
can apply that in my daily nursing experience. This experiential learning activity will also help to
dispel any misconceptions I have about this religion in particular, so I can provide better nursing care.
In the end, I hope to apply the knowledge I have learned to people of all religions so I can provide
culturally safe and accountable nursing care.
Pre Experience Reflection
Overall, my knowledge on the Catholic faith is miniscule and I am not aware of many of their
expectations and traditions in the church. Within my knowledge, I am aware the Catholic Church

The crucifix reminds individuals of Christ s sacrifice and why communion is so important (The
Vatican, n.d.). Often a crucifix will be seen at the center of the alter in the church (The Vatican, n.d.).
In the church I attended the stages of the crucifixion were depicted around the church in the stained
glass windows. After finding this information, I understand why individuals hang crucifixes in their
home/bedrooms as it reminds them of Jesus sacrifice.
It was clear that the priest was very highly regarded in the church; whenever he addressed the
congregation with, may the Lord be with you, the entire congregation would respond and say, and also
with you. I am familiar with services from Protestant Christianity, specifically Christian Reformed.
Although the beliefs are similar, the worship style was extremely different. There was a large choir as
well as an organ. The priest was singing during the worship portion but most of the congregation was
not singing but

Aristotle s Three Artistic Proofs
Persuasion consists of artistic and inartistic proof. This theory comes from the great Greek philosopher
Aristotle. Artistic proof is controlled by the persuader who can control the choice of evidence, the
organization of the persuasion, style of delivery, and language choices. Aristotle believed that there
were three main types of artistic proof, ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos is persuasion depending on a
source s credibility. Pathos uses the emotions to appeal to people. Lastly, logos uses the idea of logical
and rational appeals. By implementing the three artistic proofs when raising awareness for the disease
Lupus it can create great dividends for the cause and rally people to raise awareness.
The artistic proofs can help raise awareness in a copious amount of ways. Our group can utilize ethos

As a group, we have close personal connections to people that suffer from this disease. Our efforts are
to raise awareness with students of the symptoms because people who suffer with lupus are among us
every day and we cannot comprehend the struggle that they are going through. When creating the
pamphlets that we will use to educate the masses, we will include stories of people who suffer from
this disease. By including the personal testimonies it will allow students to understand how lupus
affects the victim s everyday life. Once students understand how painful it to live with this disease,
they will be aware of the symptoms and be able to educate others. Grasping what people with this
disease go through and what they suffer from, has motivated our group to inform others of how
important knowing the symptoms of lupus and how important the quest for a cure is. The reasoning is
that this is a genetic disease that is affecting 1.5 million Americans and a total of 5 million throughout
the world, and there has yet to be a cure for this disease, just treatments to help the sufferers through

Narrative Essay On A Car Accident
Life is unpredictable and an accident can happen anytime. on our way back home from church my dad
was driving a black 2012 Toyota Highlander, which is a family car that seven people can ride in it. My
younger brother, Taw Nay Gay, and I were sitting on the seat behind the driver seat by the door. My
other two younger brothers, Gay Nay Soe and Soe K Maw, sat in the seat behind me, and my mom sat
in the front passenger seat. For the first time a nineteen year old girl like me started to believe that I
had a reason to live and my life could be taken away anytime. This happened on October first 2017,
7:30 pm when we got into a car accident by the traffic lights intersection. Three cars were damaged,
but everyone in the cars were fine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and my family was fine. It just that our car got damaged in the front but we can still drive. Asian man
said, me and my wife were fine too, but our car is not fine because we cannot move it. I remembered
my friend Tim said when he got in to car accident he and the other driver were cursed and blamed
each other about the accident. To me, I felt that they care about their car more than their life. And they
must have forgotten that their cars were not as important as their life. Therefore, they put their cars
first before them. Another accident that I remembered. Karen singer Gangyi was one of my first male
favorite singer. I started to noticed his amazing voice when I listened to one of the song that he covers.
The song called The Prayer ; he sang this song with his sister May. Sadly, not long after I heard his
song; I heard he passed away during car accident. This guy passed away during the car accident not
long ago. I saw some of my Facebook friends post about his death and his family must be really sad
for loosed his precious son, my dad said. Why must he leave the world so early at his young age? He
had not sung more than ten songs yet. He just started to sing few song and he passed away after that? I

Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel
Michelangelo always saw himself as a sculptor, even though some of his most famous works are his
paintings and architecture. In Michelangelo s words, Painting is beautiful in the measure that it
approaches sculpture; sculpture is bad the more it approaches painting . In fact, when Pope Julius II
ordered Michelangelo to decorate the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in fresco, Michelangelo rebelled.
The Sistine Chapel is an example of Michelangelo s impatience with others as previously mentioned.
In the fall of 1508 Michelangelo began the painting of the Sistine ceiling, calling on assistance from
Giuliano Bugiardini, Aristotile da Sangallo, Francesco Granacci and several laborers. However, the
work that Michelangelo s friends and laborers

Analysis Of The Movie Infamy
Infamy: The Shocking Story of the Japanese American Internment in World War II
On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked by Imperial Japan. Soon after the attack, hundreds
of Japanese Americans were being arrested across the country. Within ten weeks President Franklin D.
Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 authorizing the detention of the American Japanese. The
author Richard Reeves, is a Senior Lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication at the
University of Southern California. He was educated as a mechanical engineer, and he began his
journalism career at the age of 23. He has fifteen publications, six films, and has received thirteen
awards. The book has an image of Japanese children with the look of sorrow and a suitcase for the
background of the book cover. In the center of the book there is a huge, vibrant red circle that contains
the title in bold black letters which captures the viewer s eyes. The title Infamy, meaning the state of
being well known for some bad quality or deed makes one s curiosity wonder why the author would
title a book like this that has Japanese children on it. Richard Reeves proves to know how to inform
people of American history considering all the awards, and ratings he has received for his works.
Immediately after the attack many Japanese newspapers in the United States were delivering patriotic
words towards America but that did not stop the hundreds of Japanese Americans being arrested. Less

Questions On Class Hierarchy Analysis
In other words, I started from the entry point and went through all the statements of method body.
Based on Class Hierarchy Analysis definition, for each call site b.n( ) in the method block, if static
type(b)=B, Then the targets of call site b.n( ) will be all concrete (non abstract) methods having the
same signature as method B.n( ) and declared by B or by any concrete subclasses of B including B
itself. According to this definition, I added reachable methods of each call site to the worklist then
made edges from source to reachable methods.
// initialization worklist.initialize() ; worklist while (worklist != empty) {
// remove next method from worklist
Method source = worklist.removeNext() ;
// process statements in source method for each (stmt in source) {
// if statement is a method/constructor call Method if (stmt is a InvokeStmt) { n =
stmt.getInvokedMethod() ;
List reachables = resolveDispatch(n) ; for each (Method target in reachables){ worklist.add (target) ;
callgraph.addEdge (source  target) ;
} // end of for} // end of if
} // end of for} // end of while
(A worklist approach for CHA algorithm)
The method resolveDispatch( ) finds reachable methods of each call site b.n( ) and for computing
reachable methods, at first I check if static type(b)= B and if B declares by signature method B.n( ),
then reachable methods are method n( ) in class B and all methods having signature B.n( ) defined in
concrete subclasses of B, else I have to look at the concrete

Reward Circuit
In this essay the dependency one acquires, as a result of the stimulation of the reward circuit is
examined. Specifically, the association of drug addiction, as a result of stimulants, in response to
increased levels of dopamine. I will begin by examining what defines an addiction, and what factors
influence an individual to become drug dependent, as a result of abuse. I will be focusing on the
reinforcing properties of the drug as well as, physical dependence, psychological dependence, social
factors, drug availability and furthermore, the vulnerability of the individual. Once an understanding
of the contributing factors that result in substance abuse is developed, I will then examine its impact
on the reward circuit. In other words, develop an understanding of the pathway itself and its
evolvement with the neurobiological substrates. With this knowledge, the implications that certain
drugs have on the concentrations of dopamine can be drawn. Finally, I will draw a conclusion from the
information gathered to answer the question of how certain stimulants interfere with the reward circuit
leading to addiction, as a result of a reduction in dopaminergic function.
Addiction and the Factors that Influence it Addiction is defined as a compulsive act of drug seeking
and use that stems from the six foundational elements, despite the consequences associated with it. As
a result of addiction, individuals begin to abuse drugs. Drug abuse is the involvement of said drugs

Amy Tan s My Mother Tongue
In Mother Tongue, Amy Tan describes how her mother s English impacted her views of the world as
she was growing up, which made her experiences more valuable. With Chinese parents growing up in
America, Tan noticed some issues her mother came upon with the English language, such as how
society assumes that language and intelligence are equivalent of one another. Describing her mother s
English, she explains the struggles of others compared to herself as Some say they understand none of
it, as if she were speaking pure Chinese. But to me, my mother s English is perfectly clear, perfectly
natural. It s my mother tongue...vivid, direct, full of observation and imagery...that helped the way I

The particular language(s) people grow up with greatly impact the way they view the world because it
allows for multiple ways of expressing different perspectives and feelings. Experiences encountered
will be defined by the ways people interpret each situation, and language provides a vital means of
shaping the basis of people s thoughts. The relationship between Christa and Mr. Blum, in which their
German culture connects them, as well as the relationship between Tan and her mother, strengthened
by their use of language, can be compared because their culture bounds them together to provide a
connection that enhances their experiences and views of the world. Culture not only provides
significant experiences, but it also bounds one as they develop notions of responsibilities.
Some people have feelings of responsibility when it comes to the culture they come from. In his
speech, A More Perfect Union, Barack Obama explains his feelings and thoughts of how he feels
responsible for Reverend Wright because they are connected by their culture and experiences they
shared with one another. They have known each other for more than twenty years because Reverend
Wright introduced Obama to Christianity, however he accused the U.S. government for fostering
racism and creating lies that attacked people of color.

  • 2. Archetypes Of Dark In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 Take a look at any timeless movie like the Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Marvel superhero series. In each of these movies, a villain dressed in long black robes, with a corruptive smirk and mind uses their malicious powers to battle relentlessly with the force of the hero, the strongest and at times, the most kind hearted character in the film. In these films, Luke fights Vader, Harry battles Voldemort, and Spider Man combats against his villains. In the end, the hero is praised for bringing peace by restoring their community from the depths of darkness. Even in these classic movies, the archetype of light vs. dark is incorporated through it s heroic and villainous characters. Similarly, Ray Bradbury incorporates this archetype into his ... He is now seen as a character who doesn t get brainwashed by the government and has his individual thought, allowing him to escape from this controlled society. Also, when Clarisse rubs the bright yellow dandelion on her chin, she s yellow under there (19), proving that she s in love (19). Unlike the other characters in the novel, Clarisse has emotions such as love, satisfaction, and happiness. The dandelion rubbing color on her illustrates how she is able to express these emotions and is an overall ray of light towards others. Clarisse uses the dandelion to prove to Montag that he lacks these qualities of lovingness and happiness in his life, which ignites his self revelation. She is a symbol of light since she is aware of her surroundings by being able to think and has a bright personality, as seen through the dandelions. Clarisse is able to use her curiosity to help others see the world through their own eyes, not what the government or parlor walls want them to. On the other hand, Mildred is contrasted to be the character that is lost in the dark side for her lack of thought to escape. • 3. Allegory In Veidt s Watchmen Moore And Gibbons In Watchmen, Moore and Gibbons have a few subplots branching off of the main story. One of these subplots centers on a newsvendor in New York City. A boy sitting close by is reading a pirate comic book, and as the story moves forward, various panels and pieces of text from this comic interposed with the real storyline. In this passage of Watchmen Moore and Gibbons utilize the gritty allegory of the Sea Captain in the Black Freighter to foreshadow the ending of the graphic novel and to give the reader more insight to the question raised throughout the entire story: Who watches the Watchmen? On page nine of chapter five, the first thing the reader sees is the other comic in the Watchmen s universe, the Black Freighter. The overarching plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is one of the key themes from Watchmen. The Watchmen, who use their time and effort attacking people who they believe to be the cause of the recent murders, make hasty determinations of culpability and impose their vigilante execution without any foresight were doomed to make mistakes. And, in defending the innocents, this raises the questions: how many mistakes will be tolerated before one is considered villainous? How many innocent civilians can one harm without becoming the very monster being fought against? Moore and Gibbons were using the Watchmen not as a case for the necessity for people to take justice upon themselves but to show the idea that vigilantes are essentially destined to turn into the villains they fight against. The main story is the example of the message contained within the Tales of the Black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tiraj Lucas Professor Onishi Philosophy 229 March 5th, 2017 INTRODUCTION The problem at hand is that majority humans believe we are superior to non human animals on the basis of our brain capacity, ability, and preferences of life. The two principles of consequentialism I plan to work with is the two that consequentialism are based on: 1. Whether an act is right or wrong depends only on the results of that act. 2. The better consequences an act produces, the better or more right that act. These two principles play a part in non human animal inequality because it emphasizes that a person should choose the action that maximizes the good of consequences for all living beings. If we apply the first principle we could conclude that non human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another argument is that it is believed to natural and ancestral for humans to eat non human animals. Neverless, in cavemen days their life span was much shorter, they did not kill nearly as many animals that are killed today in factory farming, they ate for survival, and their diets consisted of fruits and vegetables; not McDonalds and steroid induced animals. Humans are the only species in the animal kingdom who have to cook and season their meat before eating it. We do not salivate naturally at the sight of raw meat like real carnivores do. We would get food poisoning, salmonella, e.coli, mad cow disease, norovirus, trichinosis, etc, when we ever did eat raw or unhealthy meat. Yet somehow there are people who think our human species hasn t evolved passed the need to eat meat to survive phase, and continue to use ancestral history as an illogical reason to continue to contribute to suffering and environmental atrocities. Non human animal equality is not only an ignored environmental issue but an ignored social issue, resulting in another form of racism or sexism by the name of speciesism. • 11. What Does Douglass Tell Us During General About Slave Life... 1. What does Douglass tell us in general about slave life on a large plantation? What does he say about slave childhood? In general, Douglass describes slave life on a large plantation as harsh and cruel. As a child he was an eyewitness to a Bloody Transaction . Douglass wrote often been awakened at the dawn of day by the most heart rending shrieks of an own aunt of mine, whom he used to tie up to a joist, and whip upon her naked back till she was literally covered with blood. No words, no tears, no prayers, from his gory victim, seemed to move his iron heart from its bloody purpose. The louder she screamed, the harder he whipped; and where the blood ran fastest, there he whipped longest. He would whip her to make her scream, and whip her to make her hush; and not until overcome by fatigue, would he cease to swing the blood clotted cow skin. I remember the first time I ever witnessed this horrible exhibition. I was quite a child, but I well remember it. (Douglass, 4) This quote demonstrates the cruelty slaves endured on a large plantation. Slave children were unable to work so they were allowed two coarse linen shirts per year and after they were worn out they would be naked. Slave children had a lot of leisure time. However, after 1890 coal mining surged due to new legislative representatives favoring the use of land in an industrial sense. Coal mining was now dominating the southern region of West Virginia. In the beginning, coal mining did not seem to have many effects on the people or land; but, eventually people became very aware of the negative consequences that came from coal mining. People are now aware that coal mining in West Virginia was almost entirely detrimental to the environment as well as the community. Throughout West Virginia, everyone agreed there was a large amount of air pollution from coal mines. These air pollutants were so bad in the 1990s that the Clean Air Act was enacted. However, this act had unforeseen consequences of its own. Coal companies began to need much more readily available coal. So, they mined coal that was closer to the surface by using mountaintop removal. This resulted in a decrease in jobs for miners because this was a much easier and efficient way of removing coal. Gibbons Book Report In this monograph The Gibbons of Khao Yai, Thad Q Bartlett records all of his own notes about the small apes, also known as the gibbons, in their own natural habitat in the national park of Khao Yai, Thailand. Before he wrote this book, primatologists had hypothesized about a correlation between territoriality and monogamy in the gibbons and believed that it was due to the small fruiting trees and figs. Bartlett had taken an interest in the gibbons, and made a goal to contradict this hypothesis by studying the gibbons up close, and better understand how the availability of food affected their behaviors and ecology. Bartlett began his field study by focusing on the fauna and environment that they live in, which was the Mo Singto study area. Regarding the uniqueness of their monogamous lifestyle, Bartlett mainly referred to the predictions from other primatologists about how gibbons live in their small groups. He referred to Wright s predictions in particular about how the gibbons created their own small groups for the sake of having enough food resources. • 36. Analyzing Audit And Fraud Risks Analyzing Audit and Fraud Risks Audit risk, as defined in SAS No. 47, under Audit Risk and Materiality in Conducting an Audit , is the kind of risk that an auditor may unknowingly take by failing to make corrections as per their opinions on financial statements that are materially misstated (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). SAS represents audit risk in the form of a model that comprises three different risks. There is the control risk, the inherent risk and detection risk. This is known as the Audit Risk Model (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). As a way of increasing awareness of possible fraud, SAS No. 82 Consideration of Fraud in a Financial Statement Audit , was issued in 1997 (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). This SAS does not modify the basic ARM, but it expands on the guidance for the auditor s consideration of material fraud in conducting financial statement audits. The SAS increases an auditor s ability to detect fraud in an organization. Since the issuance of SAS No. 47, many other approaches of developing the ARM have been issued (Riahi Belkaoui, and Picur 34). One such approach is the belief function framework that is used to model the audit planning and evaluation process for accounts receivable. While using such an approach, it is easier to demonstrate the viability of the auditors. The approach also serves as an expert system to automate belief functions propagations in networks. More so, sensitivity analyses have been performed to identify the significance of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people, myself included, believe that the Gospels are a reliable historical resource. The Story of Jesus documentary both undergirds and challenges these presuppositions. The historicity of the Gospels is a thread which underlies the entirety of the Christian faith. The reliability of the Gospels is integral to the life and ministry of Christ. If the Gospels are not historically reliable we lose the largest historical witness to Christ, therefore rendering our belief unprovable and thus void to the world at large. • 38. Judicial Reform Act 2005 Essay Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary should be separate of the legislative and executive branches of government. It can be argued that to a moderate extent the Constitutional Reform Act 2005 and Courts and Crime Act 2013 do enforce and protect judicial independence. Evidence is provided within sections s.3 and s.7 of CRA 2005 along with the reforms introduced by the Act. Other acts such as the Act of Settlement 1701 also safeguards independence. Dame Mary Arden argued that judicial independence involved at least two things being the judge in any individual case being free to reach the decision which he or she considers to be in accordance with the law, free from any influence, and it means institutional independence meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This enforces independence because it allows the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice to handle complaints about discipline and conduct with the help of solely the Ombudsman meaning they are not being assisted by anyone else. The JACO also protects independence for this exact reason. One important amendment made by the Crime and Courts Act 2013 is that the Lord Chancellor s powers to accept, reject or ask for reconsideration of recommendations for judicial appointments below the High Court have been transferred to the Lord Chief Justice . This means the LC would then focus on the more senior judicial positions. As the LCJ is not a political executive this would enforce independence as the branches of government would continue to stay separate and allow judicial diversity, which was a goal of the JAC s . However, the Act of Settlement 1701 guarantees independence as it gives senior judges security of tenure, which means that their continued office is not dependent of the favour of the executive ... • 40. Do Video Games Cause Violence And How Does Video Games... Many people think video games can cause violence. Most of the people reading this would say yes, that video games do cause violence because a lot of times you see video games connect with violence on the news, but how often are video games the main reason that the act of violence someone caused happened. But what is video game violence and how do these scientists classify it? Most importantly how do you measure aggression? There have been 300 studies give or take between 2005 to 2013. That s on average 37.5 studies per year over eight years. Yet none has yielded a good answer on if video games cause violence or not. When it comes down to the risk factors of violence ¨no single risk factor consistently leads a person to act out their aggression.¨(Tibi Puiu) Most of these studies were on a time of two to three hours a day. Along with all of these studies there have been four meta analysis. Meta analysis is a statistical analysis that combines groups of similar data usually to show the effect size. With all of this data surely the world would get a good firm answer. Nope, the research has yet to show a causal relationship. Among kids between the ages of 12 and 17 97% play some sort of game with violence. (Susan Scuttl) Now violent games can be seen as violent by one person and nonviolent by another. It s all on perspective People who want to blame video games for real life violence point to a literary that a person would believe supplies evidence to the association. Counter claim can be reading a sad book would lead a person to sad thoughts but people say that this doesn t cause depression. Dr. Christopher Ferguson a professor at Stetson University studies 103 young adults who were randomized to play no video game, a non violent video game, a violent where they played the good guy, and a violent video game where they played the bad guy . He found that those kids who had history of playing violent video games had fewer hostile feeling during a frustration test. Spread of United States Culture through Technology Essay Abstract In today s society, the way in which information is spread drastically differs from that of yesterday, especially in different parts of the world more specifically, the Commonwealth of Nations. Some governments are uncomfortable with the fact that the United States seems to pose a better lifestyle to their people and try to limit the amount of American shows imported, or the amount of time the shows are viewed. In Jamaica, for instance, there is currently one local television station, the JBC (Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation). However, it does not broadcast until late afternoon (around 4 or 5 o clock). The first half hour is cartoons (imported from the United States). Then, for the next two to three hours there is nothing but local programs, including news, gardening and cooking shows, local sitcoms, the most popular being Lime Tree Lane, Titus, and the long running Oliver at Large, all of which contain Jamaican actors. The quality of the shows is shoddy mainly because there is not much of a budget and resources are limited. Most of the citizens especially those without a satellite do not see an American on television until later in the evening (around 8 or 9 o clock), and it is only for a couple of hours, as the station quits broadcasting for the day at around 11. The government does this in an attempt to lessen the influence of American culture on their society. In the Bahamas the story is a little different. Specifically, the association of drug addiction, as a result of stimulants, in response to increased levels of dopamine. I will begin by examining what defines an addiction, and what factors influence an individual to become drug dependent, as a result of abuse. I will be focusing on the reinforcing properties of the drug as well as, physical dependence, psychological dependence, social factors, drug availability and furthermore, the vulnerability of the individual. Once an understanding of the contributing factors that result in substance abuse is developed, I will then examine its impact on the reward circuit. In other words, develop an understanding of the pathway itself and its evolvement with the neurobiological substrates. With this knowledge, the implications that certain drugs have on the concentrations of dopamine can be drawn. Finally, I will draw a conclusion from the information gathered to answer the question of how certain stimulants interfere with the reward circuit leading to addiction, as a result of a reduction in dopaminergic function. Addiction and the Factors that Influence it Addiction is defined as a compulsive act of drug seeking and use that stems from the six foundational elements, despite the consequences associated with it.
