2. A Booming Technology
Automotive infotainment is one
of the fastest growing
technologies in the industry - a
growth trend expected to
continue with the smart phones
technology boom.
3. What is an Infotainment System
A term and popular buzzword for a media device or service that delivers a
combination of information and entertainment. The content delivered via
infotainment is designed to be informative yet entertaining enough to
attract and maintain the consumer's interest.
Infotainment can refer to a variety of content served through traditional
media such as television, print, radio or the Internet.
4. In-Vehicle Infotainment System
In-Car entertainment (ICE), or In-Vehicle infotainment (IVI), is a
collection of hardware and software in automobiles that provides audio or
video entertainment. In car entertainment originated with car audio systems
that consisted of radios and cassette or CD players, and now includes
automotive navigation systems, video players, USB and Bluetooth
connectivity, Carputers, in-car internet, and Wi-Fi. Once controlled by simple
dashboards knobs and dials, ICE systems can include steering wheel audio
controls and hands-free voice control.
5. Parts of IVI

6. Parts of IVI
A screen integrated in the upper part of the centre of the dashboard. The various
screens found in high end vehicles range from six to 12 inches in width and is
commonly an LCD (liquid crystal display) screen. If the system uses a touch screen
then the other parts of the system may not be required.
Buttons, rotary dials or even a mouse like device to select and control what is
displayed on the screen. These controls are laid out on the dashboard or on the
centre console. Some infotainment systems also have buttons on the steering
wheel in addition to the controls or the touchscreen. Some systems even have a
remote to control some of the features in the infotainment system, especially the
entertainment part of the system.
7. Features of IVI
Easy navigation using GPS and in-
built Maps
Listen to your favourite music from
Cds, Pen Drives, Smart phones or
any Smart Devices
Hands free voice control over your
phone
Safely manage your phone
through Android Auto, Apple
CarPlay or Bluetooth control
Enjoy the movies/videos/music on
your phone on IVI system
Make phone calls using steering
controls or voice commands
Reverse Parking Cameras and
Ultrasonic Proximity sensors for
safe parking
Driver Assistance Systems to make
your driving easy and safe
8. GPS Navigation System
A GPS navigation system is a GPS
receiver and audio/video (AV)
components designed for a specific
purpose such as a car-based or
hand-held device or a smartphone
app. The global
positioning system (GPS) is a 24-
satellite navigation system that
uses multiple satellite signals to find
a receiver's position on earth. "What is the nearest gas
station?" and Google Maps will
present you a list of options or
the best route.
9. Entertainment System
Entertainment system provide in-car
entertainment. Until the 1950s it
consisted of a simple AM radio. Additions
since then have included FM radio, CD
players, USB player, Bluetooth
integration, and smartphone controllers
like CarPlay and Android Auto. This
enabled the entertainment system to
play music or movies from different
platforms even from the internet. You can access your stored
music collection or millions of
songs in Google Play Music or
Apple AirPlay
10. Reverse Parking Assistant
Reverse Parking Assistant consist of reverse
camera and a set of ultrasonic proximity
detectors.
Reverse camera that is produced specifically for
the purpose of being attached to the rear of a
vehicle to aid in backing up, and to alleviate the
rear blind spot.
Ultrasonic proximity detectors to measure the
distances to nearby objects via sensors located
on the rear bumper
11. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are systems developed to
automate/adapt/enhance vehicle systems for safety and better driving. Safety
features are designed to avoid collisions and accidents by offering technologies that
alert the driver to potential problems, or to avoid collisions by implementing
safeguards and taking over control of the vehicle.

“Car Infotainment Systems with user experience data, music,
apps, themes and colours of their choice can only enhance
their driving experience. Integrating these features with
customized human-machine interfaces can bring huge
boost to IVI industry.
