Louise Erdrich is a Native American author from Minnesota. She is a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Erdrich has authored numerous novels, short stories, and poems exploring Native American themes and experiences. Some of her most well known works include Love Medicine, The Beet Queen, and Tracks. Erdrich has received many honors for her writing including the National Book Critics Circle Award and Guggenheim Fellowship.

3.  Louise is the oldest of seven children.
 She is a member of the Turtle Mountain Band
of Chippewa Indians.
 She was born in Minnesota but was raised in
North Dakota.
 She attended Dartmouth College for her
Bachelor’s then John Hopkins University for a
Master’s in Creative Writing.
 She has held a variety of jobs including a
poetry teacher at a prison.

When grandmother sails away, she leaves behind a collection of birds' nest--
and three eggs in one nest miraculously begin to hatch out passenger
pigeon chicks.

7. Erdrich, L. (2006). The game of silence. Harper Collins.
Her name is Omakayas, or Little Frog, because her first step was a hop, and
she lives on an island in Lake Superior. One day in 1850, Omakayas′s
island is visited by a group of mysterious people. From them, she learns
that the chimookomanag, or white people, want Omakayas and her
people to leave their island and move farther west.
That day, Omakayas realizes that something so valuable, so important that
she never knew she had it in the first place, could be in danger: Her way
of life. Her home.
