Augmented reality (AR) enhances the real world by overlaying virtual objects. AR allows users to see the real world with virtual objects superimposed on top. AR supplements reality rather than replacing it. Some key applications of AR include using it to provide military and medical personnel with helpful overlays of information, enhancing education through 3D overlays, and using it for product displays and games. Popular AR mobile apps include Star Walk for identifying stars, Google Sky Map, and games like Piclings that incorporate the real world camera view.

Augmented Reality connects the online and offline worlds. Let us have a look at what it is, why it is so popular and what are the businesses to which it can contribute.
AUGMENTED REALITY CONNECTS THE ONLINE AND OFFLINE WORLDS.
Introduction about Augmented Reality. This slides will provide knowledge about how Augmented Reality will work virtually using VR Glasses, Google Glass, etc.
AUGMENTED REALITY :-By superimposing virtual imagery, sound and theoretically even other sensorial enrichment over real-world environments in real-time, augmented reality serves as a tool to ever more enhance a human being’s awareness and performance.
Originally developed for military applications, the technology has since been transferred to civilian domains such as the medical field, the automobile or leisure industries and many more. While already in place and constantly receiving improvement, augmented reality still faces many shortcomings that limit its effectiveness and portability.
Virtual Reality: An Introduction
Virtual Reality is a term that applies to computer-simulated environments that can simulate physical presence in places in the real world, as well as in imaginary worlds. In other word, virtual Reality is a simulation in which computer graphics is used to create a realistic looking world.
Augmented reality (AR) , is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called computer-mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. Augmented reality enhances one’s current perception of reality, whereas in contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one.[1][2] Augmentation techniques are typically performed in real-time real time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as overlaying supplemental information like scores over a live video feed of a sporting event.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

3. What is it?
• Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a
live direct or indirect view of a physical
real-world environment whose
elements are merged with (or
augmented by) virtual computer-
generated imagery - creating a mixed
reality.
5. Augmented Reality (AR) is a variation of VE/VR.
• VR technologies completely immerse a user inside a
synthetic environment. While immersed, the user
cannot see the real world around him.
• In contrast, AR allows the user to see the real world,
with virtual objects superimposed upon or
composited with the real world.
AR supplements reality, rather than completely
replacing it. It creates the illusion that the virtual and
real objects coexisted in the same space.
AR can be thought of as the "middle ground“ between VE
(completely synthetic) and telepresence (completely real)
7. • AR enhances a user’s perception of interaction with the real world.
• The virtual objects display information that the user cannot directly
detect with his own senses.
• The information conveyed by the virtual objects helps a user perform
real-world tasks.
• AR is a specific example of what is known as Intelligence Amplification
(IA): using the computer as a tool to make a task easier for a human to
perform.
9. • There are essentially 3 different kinds of displays of augmented
reality:
• The head mounted display (HMD) is worn on the head or
attached to a helmet. This display can resemble goggles or
glasses. In some instances, there is a screen that covers a single
eye.
• The handheld device is a portable computer or mobile
smartphone such as the iPhone.
• Spatial display makes use of projected graphical displays onto
fixed surfaces.

14. The military, particularly the Office of Naval Research and Defense
Advanced Research Projects Agency or DARPA, are some of the
original pioneers of augmented reality systems. One of the main uses
of augmented reality systems to the military is providing field soldiers
crucial information about their surroundings as well as friendly
troops and enemy movements in their particular area.

15. Medical
One of the interesting uses for AR in the medical field involves live interactive
imaging for assisting physicians, medical students and children. Minimally
invasive surgery (MIS) includes procedures where a camera is inserted into the
patient's body to help the doctor visualize the procedures he or she is conducting
16. This form of surgery is aided with the use of AR imagery
of a brain superimposed onto the patient's head, giving
the doctor a more tangible visualization.
Surgery
17. Augmented Reality applications that can enhance textbooks to have
the power to engage a reader in ways that have never been possible.
Children learn better the lesson if they see it like a game.
In mathematics and geometry the main advantage of using an AR
system is that students actually see three dimensional objects.
Education
18. AR in medicine, where an
“error” could drive to a disaster.
A surgeon learns laparoscopic surgery in an augmented reality
situation, there are no real consequences if mistakes are made during
training. These types of training provide opportunities for more
authentic learning and appeal to multiple learning styles.
20. STAR WALK
Tells you exactly what stars, constellations, and satellites you’re looking at as
you point your device at the sky. The camera records both your position in
relation to the sky and where you’re pointing. It then presents information to
you about the cosmos. The app also has a feature called Time Machine that
shows you what the sky looked like in the past or will look like in the future.
21. Google Sky Map
This Android app lets you point your smartphone camera to
the sky and identify the stars, constellations, and planets above
you. Details and scenery change in real time as you move your
handset across the sky.
22. Piclings
An iOS game that uses the to create level layouts for the game.
The game recognizes the images taken by the camera, redefines
them digitally, and incorporates them into the game world.
23. Tissot has launched the first augmented reality
window display at which allows consumers on the
street the chance to virtually "try-on" a 3D watch
from Tissot's pioneering T-Touch watch collection.
24. Conclusion
• Though Augmented Reality has both
advantages & disadvantages, it is a great
way of delivering entertainment media
that uses computer generated graphics
transposed over a real life scene.
