1. Audience profile: Kerrang
Kerrang is a music magazine based around rock, the target audience is mainly 18-
35, this catagorises them into YAKS and EWES. The typography used on the front
cover it the Kerrang logo in its usualfont and the cover line in frontof the main
image. The fontused for the main cover line can vary and be quite different on
each magazine, sometimes it will the band/artists logo or something completely
different to their logo but it is always very bold block like text; this makes the text
easy for the buyer to read because its big. The other text on the frontcover is
different to the main cover line and less extravagant; this is so the buyers
attention is focused on the main cover line. A main image on the front over is
always of a band/artist and the text is placed around it, smaller images are also on
the cover that relate to the smaller cover lines; because of the smaller images it
will give the buyer an insight into what they are buying and the content inside the
magazine, this is because someof the audience EWES and will wantto value their
money now that they may have to pay for a mortgage. The content includes
competitions which are provided by sponsors, this makes thebuyer want to keep
buying the magazineas they will keep wanting to try to win the competitions and
because there is a interest in the competitions the sponsors willkeep providing
the competition prizes ;posters havea similar effect on the buyer, becausethey
come with in every magazineand in a rangeof sizes they buyer will want to
collect them. The magazinealso offers reviews of albums which allows the buyer
to read a review of an album by someonein the industry, this gives a professional
insight to the album so the buyer can decide if they want it. The price of Kerrang
is £2.20 which is a reasonableprice and many people are willing to pay this.
Kerrang is a weekly magazine meaning it won’thaveas much content as a
monthly magazinebecause it won’thaveas much news and information to catch
up on; this is an advantage becausebuyers won’thave to wait long till they can
get fix of Kerrang however, peoplemay not want to keep buying it every week as
the costs can add up. The colour scheme for Kerrang is normally quite bright
colours but very masculine colours e.g red, dark green, black ect. This attracts a
male audience as it makes the magazine look masculine telling us the main
audience for Kerrang is male.
