All participants were expected to have seen the
complete products (music video/magazine
advert/digipak) prior to answering the following
questions. This was controlled and measured in order
to make these answers as reliable as possible.

1.Having seen the video, what genre do you think it
falls into, and what features within the video
influenced your answer to this question?
Probably the indie genre, the guitar suggests to me this
is the case. Also the black and white, the smoking and
the drinking all suggestthe indie genre.
2.Do you understand the meaning? Is it straight
forward or does it rely on audience interpretation?
I think the meaning is open to audience interpretation
definitely. The video seems to highlight the characters
battle with keeping his religion and adolescent
temptations, though there are many elements that
could be interpreted differently. For example, the
fighting scene could be because the character is drunk
and highlight the dangers of drinking, though I

2. personally believe it to be representing the inner
pain/battle the character feels when he’s torn between
his religion and his temptations.
3.Were there any components within the video or
ancillary products that you thought were
particularly effective?
I thought the magazineand digipack worked together
well due to the constant colour schemes (black, white,
orange). I also felt the video told a clever message, and
used many props to reinforce its message.
4.Could you offer any possible avenues for
expansion or development of the products in
order to make them more effective?
I feel the video was good at telling a storey, but the
long sequence of the walking at the beginning was too
long. Basically, I felt the video took a little too long to
get going.
5.In your opinion, what audience was this video
targeting, in terms of both demographic and
psychographic features?

3. Male audience with the trainers, the character himself
and the fighting. Probably teenagers or young adults
due to the smoking/drinking.
6.There was once central figure throughout all of my
products. What do you think of this casting
choice?
He was exciting to watch. He wasn’t over acting but he
wasn’t boring. I felt his enthusiasm in the fighting
scene was appropriate and when he was less
enthusiastic or serious, I felt this matched the metal
state of the character he was playing at the time.
Overall, a really good casting choice.
