2. Why this one?
I decided the institution I was going to use for my products was Columbia
Records, a subsidiary label for Sony Music Entertainment (SME). I decided this
institution over many other because after conducting some research into
existing Digipacks and Magazine adverts, I found this to be one of Sony’s
three flagship labels alongside RCA Records and Epic Records. Kings of Leon
are the band responsible for making the song I have based my portfolio
around, and therefore I thought it appropriate to at least be a part of SME.
However, I allowed myself to independently choose which subsidiary label I
wanted to be a part of. In my Digipak analysis, I analysed a Kasabian album
and found that their record label was Columbia Records. The album I analysed
was West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, one of my most cherished albums
growing up. After not only appreciating the music from a young age, I was
now able to appreciate the design of their Digipak too. After concluding that
their style was something I liked the look of, and remembering I used many of
their videos to aid my research and planning process, I decided Columbia
Records was the label my artist was going to be signed to.
