Audience Consideration Grid
Audience Research
As part of my primary research, I have given out a questionnaire to the public which has
been successful and has given me a clear acknowledgement on who my short film is targeted
to. The questionnaire was distributed online on the groups Facebook page, so that people
were able to access it with difficulty. The research then continued through secondary
research, where I had looked at reviews to movies that belong to the genre.
Audience Identification
From the research, it has been intended that the target audience will be identified as male
and female, between the ages of 18 and 25. This has been confirmed through the mass
amount of results, as we were able to see their strong interest in the genre and how a short
film could be entertaining for them. These ages are able to understand a faced pace,
complex narrative as well as understand the characters.
Audience Expectations
I expect that the audience will be excited and engaged by the idea of the film. I believe that
they expect some visualization of violence and action, as well as some type of relationship
and a relatable connection with the characters. They may also compare the short film to a
similar situation in their life, as recognizable locations will be used. I hope to be successful
when meeting the audience’s expectations, that they thoroughly enjoy the product because
it was entertaining to watch.
Audience Engagement
To keep the audience thoroughly engaged, I plan on bringing some narrative from the end to
the beginning. This will keep the audience on their toes, and make them think and
concentrate throughout the short film, on the reason why the scene was important enough
to be shown at the beginning. Also, the use of editing will be considered carefully, making
sure each scene and clip isn’t uninteresting because it has been shown for a too long amount
of time. Technical uses continue, as a soundtrack will be used for certain parts of the
narrative, adding the comedy aspects – making the audience experience the feel-good factor
(a reason that a few people wrote down in the questionnaire, that has been considered to
include in the narrative. These are a few components that will be thought out to make the
product as engaging as possible.
