ASSIGNMENT 3
Attitude and Job Satisfaction
Attitudes refer to feelings and beliefs of individuals or group of
individuals. Attitudes are evaluative statements either favorable or
unfavorable about objects, people or ideas. They reflect how we feel
about something. For e.g. A person says “I like my job.” It shows that he
has positive attitude towards his job.
Components of Attitudes:
Attitudes comprise of three basic components and they are;
1) Informational (Cognitive) component
2) Emotional (Affective) component
3) Behavioral component
1)Informational component:
It consists of beliefs, values, ideas, and other information a person has
about the object. For e.g. “My pay is low.”
2)Emotional component:
It involves the person’s feelings or affect- positive, neutral or negative
about the object. For e.g. “I am angry over how little I’m paid.”
3)Behavioral component:
It consists of the tendency of a person to behave in a particular way or
manner towards an object. Out of the three components, only the
behavioral component can be directly observed. One cannot see
another person’s beliefs (cognitive component) and his feelings
(emotional component). For e.g. “I’m going to look for another job that
pays better.”
ABC Model of Attitudes:
All the three components of attitude constitute together, called the
ABC model. In the ABC model
A = Affective component
B = Behavioral component
C = Cognitive component

Job Satisfaction
Job satisfaction is a positive feeling about one’s job resulting from the
evaluation of its characteristics. A person with a high level of job
satisfaction holds positive feelings about his/her job, while person with
a low holds negative feelings.
Job involvement is the degree to which a person identifies with a job,
actively participates in it, and considers performance important to self-
worth.
Factors contributing to job satisfaction:
1) Personality
2) Person-environment fit
3) Job security
4) Psychological contract
5) Work relationships
6) Stress
7) Work-Life balance
8) Organizational justice
Consequences of positive work attitude:
 High performance
 High productivity
Assessing work attitude in the workplace:
There are two systematic ways in which company can track the work
attitudes of the employees that whether they are satisfied or not. They
are:
1)Attitude survey
2)Exit interview
Attitude survey:
It is a management tool business owners or managers use to learn
about the views and opinions of their employees about the job or task
assigned to them.
Exit interview:
It is the discussion conducted between the managers and the
employees to know the reason why he/she is leaving or exiting the job.
For e.g. Companies such as KFC Corporation, Google, Long John Silver’s
Inc. restaurant, etc. give periodic surveys to employees to track their
work attitudes. Companies can get more out of these surveys if
responses are held confidential.
These two systematic ways helps the organization in many ways. They
are:
 Reduces number of turnover
 Reduces absenteeism
 Makes the organization more effective
 Creates healthy working environment
 Uplift the performance and productivity of the organization
and so on.
