What Was The Relationship Between The Neolithic And...
The Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions
The two changes in the use of the earth s resources that had the greatest effect on the world
population were the Neolithic and the industrial revolutions.
The Neolithic revolution (a.k.a. agricultural revolution) was a change in the way of life of our
ancestors. It took place about 8000 years ago among various tribes in Asia and the Middle East. It
included a transition from foraging and hunting to the domestication of animals (most probably
starting with the dog) and to farming. Tribes settled in fertile areas and formed agricultural
communities many of which grew into villages and cities. This relatively stable way of life and the
more reliable food supply (and surplus) led to the development ... Show more content on

Biogeochemical cycles
In the carbon cycle, the key events are the complementary reactions of respiration and
photosynthesis. Respiration takes carbohydrates and oxygen and combines them to produce carbon
dioxide, water, and energy. Photosynthesis (6CO + 12H O + Light Energy C H O + 6O +6H O)
takes carbon dioxide and water and produces carbohydrates and oxygen. The outputs of
respiration are the inputs of photosynthesis, and the outputs of photosynthesis are the inputs of
respiration. The reactions are also complementary in the way they deal with energy.
Photosynthesis takes energy from the sun and stores it in the carbon carbon bonds of
carbohydrates; respiration releases that energy. Both plants and animals carry on respiration, but
only plants and other producers can carry on photosynthesis. The chief reservoirs for carbon
dioxide are in the oceans and in rock. Carbon dioxide dissolves readily in water. Once there, it
may precipitate as a solid rock known as calcium carbonate. Corals and algae encourage this
reaction and build up limestone reefs in the process. On land and in the water, plants take up carbon
dioxide and convert it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis. This carbon in the plants now has
3 possible endings. It can be returned to the atmosphere by the plant through respiration; it can be
eaten by an animal, or it can be present in the plant when the plant dies. Animals obtain all their
carbon in their food, and, thus, all carbon

At T Mobile Case Summary
It really doesn t get better than this. T Mobile 1Q16 results were good...again. For an industry
that is competitive and mature, the company has done an incredible job of continuously adding
subscribers and taking market share from industry leaders AT T (NYSE:T) and Verizon
(NYSE:VZ), and overtaking its nearest competitor Sprint (NYSE:S) last year. 1Q16 results saw
the company add its 12th straight quarter of subscriber additions of over 1 million. Revenue rose
11% to $8.6 billion, driven by a 13% increase in service revenue to $6.6 bn. PAT came in at $479
million (EPS $0.56), compared with a loss of $63 million in 1Q15 (EPS: $0.09). While results
were clearly better than consensus estimates, the increase in guidance is what increases the
confidence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I expect that as mature, incumbent players, AT T and Verizon are unlikely to make the price
changes necessary to really stop T Mobile s momentum, and instead are likely to focus on
maintaining cash flow. With Sprint now focused on cost cutting and maintaining liquidity, it is
also no longer a real threat to T Mobile s operational and earnings momentum. The only real
challenge that T Mobile will face is to prove to customers that even though its network may not
be as big as AT T s or Verizon s, it is just as good. While quality seems better so far, the verdict is
not yet in, and T Mobile needs to augment coverage in some areas to catch up. So what does all
this momentum in subscriber addition lead to? It leads to higher revenue and for a capex
intensive industry, operating leverage benefits! T Mobile has seen its EBITDA margin expand
from 25% in FY14 to 30% in 2015 and 32% in 1Q16. More importantly, the company is also
reporting strong improvement in FCF. The company reported FCF of $1.0 billion in FY15 versus
a negative FCF of $ 90 million in FY14. Factset consensus expects the company to report FCF of
$2.0 bn in FY16, implying FCF growth of almost 100% over

Jerry Tello Analysis
The presentation that Jerry Tello gave was like none I ve been to before. It was very
entertaining and informational all at once. There were a few parts that really struck a cord for
me, but I m going to focus on one particular one because I understand and relate to it and I find it
extremely irritated by how more and more children don t know, agree with or understand what s
wrong. He described how one day when he was a little boy he sighed and turned his back on his
motherwhen she was asking his to do something and he was spanked by his father for the first and
only time in his life.

there are certain circumstances to where that doesn t apply). ... Show more content on

Your job is to provide, teach and support your children. More specifically, to teach them how to be
able to function in the world. This means teaching them how to behave respectfully to others, not
just you. If you re not a single parent home or if you have help from others it is especially
important for you guys to be on the same page on how to teach what you need to and how
discipline works into the situation because if not, more than likely the first thing the child or
children will do is try to pin you guys against each other (I say this because that is what me and
my siblings tried to do...it only worked once). It s good to catch disrespectful behavior early if
possible. If your child is rude or disrespectful, it s not good to turn a blind eye. Giving
consequences when children are younger will pay off in the long run. It may sound old
fashioned, but I find that it s very important to teach your child basic manners like saying please
, may I and thank you. If you think about it, when your child deals with their teachers, others
outside the household or even gets their first job these common manners will really go a long
way and using manners is also a form of empathy. It also teaches your children to respect others
and acknowledge their impact on other people. As a parent myself (though my child is still young
but I have raised others) I also find it a good idea to communicate

Its top competitors, JPMorgan Chase Co, Bank of America, and CITIGROUP inc, all worked
towards building its net income and assets. Currently, JPMorgan is leading Wells Fargoin ranking,
however last year Wells Fargo was on top. The decrease in business came from the direct effect of
the scandal. The company is now working towards moving forward and reaching the top in the
banking industry.
Moreover, the company s network is shrinking due to an increase in technology. With online and
mobile banking, there has become a decline in the need for so many banks. As said by
CNNMoney, 84 locations were drop in the year 2016 and they expect to cut 300 more by 2018.
It s part of a broader Wells Fargo plan to save about $2 billion a year by the end of next year
(Eagan, 2017). This will help repair, what they lost from the scandal. However, they are not the
only company that has been closing banks. This is happening throughout the entire industry. Also,
Wells Fargo will not layoff all its employees, many will be able to transfer to a new location.
Wells Fargo would be an incredible company to work for and represent. The company s distinct
values and culture make it an excellent work environment for team members and leaders. This
company may have its up and downs, but it still displays true passion for putting customers first and

Amy Winehouse Back To Black Analysis
Amy Winehouse Back to Black
Amy Winehouse is an old soul who inspired a new sound in a modern age. She manipulated
classical jazz with her hip hop influences and her strong unique voice with lyrics from her life
experiences. These factors made her music unique and inspiring. Sadly in July of 2011, Amy
passed away at the young age of twenty seven, leaving behind her musical legacy. Back to Black is
one of her most popular albums that shows off her beautiful voice and thoughtful composition.
Due to its unique traits in modern music, it will continue to be played. This album is truly a work
of art based on Amy s use of meaningful lyrics in her songs, her strong unique voice, and her
particular take on jazz. I feel that Back to Black is an outstanding ... Show more content on

I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express
struggles within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and
confront her troubles in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more
wonderful. In the documentary film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything
unless it was directly personal to me, just cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because
I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be
that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just trying to be different with my lyrics
(Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude, which made her vulnerable,
but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the lyrics that she wrote was
her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly shown in the song
Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed from all that
we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to go back
to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s
powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to
that of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even
when she wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood.
Her voice glints with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy
timing of a Dinah Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla
Thomas (Pareles). The main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other
album out there that sounds similar. Ms. Winehouse has grown up on hip hop s version of R B,
which chops the old dramatic

Monsieur, who are you (p. 7)? This is said by Christine to Raoul in the novel The Phantom of the

The Criminalization Of Hiv Transmission
The criminalization of HIV transmission has sparked many debates on how the law and health
policy are related and how they both have a profound impact on health. HIV criminalization was a
policy meant to incapacitate and rehabilitate those transmitting the disease to others while the
retribution of the act would deter others from engaging in transmission . However, the harsh
realities of criminalization have caused many to reconsider its original purpose. The criminalization
of HIVtransmission in Canada has negative implications on health. This paper will argue that by
criminalizing HIV transmission there is a greater chance of individuals not getting tested, that
living with HIV can be extremely difficult within the criminal justicesystem, and that
criminalization does not address broader, structural issues that cause HIV transmission.
The history of HIV criminalization in Canada is rooted in the 1998 case of the Supreme Court
of Canada (R. v. Cuerrier), where the court found that an individual could be convicted of sexual
assault if they do not disclose their HIV status to their sexual partner . Since then, over 70 people
in Canada have been criminally charged for not disclosing their HIV status to their sexual partner
. In 2012, the criminalization of HIV transmission reached a new level of overreach by finding
that an individual could be convicted for sexual assault in a situation where there is a realistic
possibility of HIV transmission. Some have called into

Epic Of Gilgamesh Analysis
In the Epic of Gilgamesh , it is easy to conclude that Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the story, is the
hero. In Like Mayflies in a Stream , Gilgamesh is merely a scary person who appears in the story
here or there rather than being the protagonist. Instead, Shamhat is the main person that the story
focuses on, but the book is imprecise on one heroof the entire story. There are numerous characters
that could reflect hero aspects such as going on a quest, having another to help guide them, or
facing trials. Personally, I believe that there is no true hero in this story due to the nature that
Shamhat is a woman, who were represented badly during this time, and that Shauna Roberts did not
want to misrepresent the epic due to extreme... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This singular word, only , immediately tells us as a reader that they are looked down upon, are
not as good as men, and are not as important to society. Along with this, many people call
Shamhat a whore when her pregnant stomach begins to show. Women, and girls for that matter,
as Nameshda was only 13, were raped by Gilgamesh. Shamhat is the older sister in her family,
yet her younger brother Geshtu gets to make all of the decisions for the family. The scenarios in
this book are contemplative of how women are viewed and treated compared to the men of
society. Patriarchy is correct by their standards, and having women in any sort of important role
is almost nonexistent. Due to this condescending view, we can understand why it would be
difficult to have Shamhat as the hero in this story. If men are the superior ones, wouldn t it make
sense to have a man as the hero? In the event that a woman was a hero in this story, it may make
readers predict that the entire society will change their outlook on women by the end of the story.
On the other hand, others may think that Roberts was trying too hard to modernize this epic. With
this issue, Roberts could fear that creating this story with a female hero may be too contemporary
and take away from the true epic. She already modernized the book somewhat by adding in a love
triangle and happily ever after ending. Adding a female hero may just completely

The On The Integrity Of An Asset Is Reliable, Precise And...
1 Integrity: it is an insurance that an asset is reliable, precise and is not altered by unauthorized

One should know that the vast majority of impacts on the integrity are due to errors or negligence.
To protect the integrity, general measures are strict access controlthat allows the manipulation of the

When The Boss Wants Sex
Women are subordinated by men in everyday life situation. The subordination is so raified and
many women are still, unconsious about their circumstances. When the opression is so raified, it
also indicates that it is difficult to speak out against men, and even more difficult to have their
opinion accepeted in the society. Two articles, When the Boss Wants Sex written by Yla Elason
and Politics of Housework written by Pat Mainardi both shows how subordination of women is
designed into everyday life, thus into the behavior of men and women. The purpose of this report
is to assess Elason and Mainardi s article. Elason, in her article, shows how mistreatment could be

She picks up some of the words by her husband and it is striking to see how he, under the surface
thinks that housework is the women s job despite the economic situation in the house. This shows
the ironic side of pushing women to work outside her home, since the role in the house has not
changed but now she has the extra burden to carry on. Her argument, however, goes too far
especially when she interprets her husband s word. The way he talks or put out his words could
indicate certain social understanding and so forth, however, Mainardi sometimes interpret in the
way that is unreasonable. Interpretation, although it is one of the common ways to study human,
also has the indication that it is hard to present the evidence to the interpretation. Depending on
the interpreter, the meaning of words could differ a lot. Nevertheless, she spotted the sexism
almost correct, and different from the topic of sexual harrassment, unfortunately the concept of
housewife is still prosperious in many societies. To sum up, the article When the Boss Wants Sex
by Yla Elason and politics of Housework by Pat Mainardi shows the raification of sexism in

historical evidence shows that the norms, gradually, could be changed. Pat Mainardi expressed

Thurmond Rule Pros And Cons
The Thurmond Rule is an informal and somewhat amorphous rule in the United States Senate
regarding confirmations of judicial nominees. While it originated with former Senator Strom
Thurmond s opposition to President Lyndon Johnson s nomination of Justice Abe Fortas to be
Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in June 1968, the specifics of the rule vary between sources.
Thurmond himself said that no lifetime judicial appointments should move in the last six months
or so of a lame duck presidency.[1] In the last year of George W. Bush s second term Democratic
Senator Patrick Leahy stated the rule as meaning judicial nominations do not advance in the Senate

work with senators from other states, as well, so that we might make progress before time runs out
on your presidency and the Thurmond rule precludes additional confirmations. [2] In June 2012,
however, Leahy said it is troubling to hear Senate Republicans already talking about how they plan
to resort to the Thurmond Rule to shut down all judicial confirmations for the rest of the year. [4]
In 2004, Republican Senator Orrin Hatch dismissed the rule: Strom Thurmond unilaterally on his

2.2THE SERVICE VALUE
Value is the customer s assessments of the benefits of the service weighted against all the cost
involved. (Johnston and Clark, 2008, pg. 44). In a service organisation, operations determine the
balance between minimising organisational cost and maximising customer s value. The service
value of BA includes the following: 1. All inclusive prices for the journey. 2. Free foods, drinks
and entertainment (television [audio and video], and headphones) while on board. 3. Tickets are
expensive compared to other airlines that provide the same services at cheaper rates. 4. Overall
satisfactory values for money.
Therefore, the service concept of BA gives a worldwide linkage of interconnecting flights and a
range of services for different group of travellers. BA follow this objective by establishing a
complex linkage of routes and by developing collaboration with other organisations (airlines) that
enhance international coverage and provide links among routes. Operationally, the main focus and
concern of BA is to ensure greater level of customer service, to generate international network, and
to manage route effectiveness.

E commerce has grown in a wide scale in the advanced world and has a vital role in the day to day
lives of individuals and the economies of their nation. The developing countries are left very far
behind in this respect even though the governments of these developing countries have taken so
many measures to encourage the e commerce in their countries. This Dissertation gives you a study

Electronic commerce (e commerce) has been defined in different ways by different researchers.
Schneider and Perry (2000), characterize e trade as business actions directed using electronic
information transmission by means of the web and World Wide Web. As per Turban, King, Lee,
Warkentin and Chung (2002), Electronic business is a procedure of purchasing and offering items,
administrations and data utilizing PC systems and the web. Gibbs, Kraemer Dedrick (2003)
characterize e commerce as the utilization of the web to purchase, offer, or bolster items and
administrations. In this study, e trade involves the utilization of the web for purchasing and offering
items or administrations.
Electronic trade and actions identified with it that are directed over the web can be a source that

Calculus Controversy Between Newton And Leibniz
Introduction Who was the first individual to invent the mathematical study of change known as
calculus? This was a question that was the premise of a dispute between two mathematicians, Isaac
Newton and Gottfried Leibniz. The discovery of a new branch of mathematics requires years of
research and trial and error experiments. That is why, when the controversy arose concerning the
genuine Father of Calculus , one of the biggest intellectual controversies emerged. Isaac Newtonand
Gottfried Leibnizeach claimed that they established calculus as a true branch of mathematics on
their own. However, it is highly improbable that two men working independently of one another
reached the same conclusions on a topic as broad as modern calculus. These claims lead the public
to ask the question: who was the great mastermind behind this now universally used branch of
science? While it is true that both men contributed in content to Calculus, the controversial belief
that Leibniz plagiarized Newton s work, changing only a few minute details and publishing his
findings before Newton had a chance to publish his, is the fuel that caused this controversy to
become one of the greatest mathematical disputes in history. Historical events and mathematical
evidence dictate that Newton is the real father of calculus... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After reviewing the evidence, it is undeniable that Leibniz was in possession of Newton s work
while he was developing his research on calculus. It was no coincidence that Leibniz was able to
publish his results on differential calculus after he saw Newton s book De Principal which
contained all of Newton s findings about fluxional calculus. Even if Leibniz did not copy Newton
s work exactly, he was at the very least was inspired by it, and his exposure to Newton s work

Lydia Bennet Women
Today, women are appraised as weak because of the roles women were assigned since they existed.
In the 18th century, women were only given the power to submit to bear children, submit to their
husband, and be a housewife. Rights were given to women but their roles and expectations were
still appended to their gender. In the novel Pride and Prejudice, author Jane Austin s motive was to
reveal how women s expectations challenged women with different personalities and how things
haven t changed since the 18th century.
Back then, a woman was expected to be ladylike and mature. Lydia Bennet is the youngest child
in the Bennett family who is immature and obsesses over men. When Lydia runs away with an
older man name Mr. Wickham, her womanhood was challenged by society. Since Lydia was not
married to Mr. Wickham, her ignominy of being promiscuous causes a bad reputation on her and
her family. Today, Lydia would be classified as a whore because of her lack of marriageand running
off with a man. It has become a normal thing for women to be called out of their name for being
single and going on dates with multiple men. The reason being is because people imply that the
women are providing voluntary sex. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, it is challenging for Elizabeth Bennett, who is outspoken. She is challenged when
she refuses Mr.Collins proposal and tells him off. Refusing to marry caused society to sham her.
Today, refusing a marriage means that the woman is delusional because society s standards say
that a woman needs a man in her life. Also, having a sharp tongue classified her as being
disobedient. Lizzy tells Mr. Darcy off for sabotaging her sister s relationship with Mr. Bingley and
rejects his hand in marriage. Her acrimonious tone makes her come off as harsh. Still, society
continues to sham women for voicing their opinion and being strong minded. These type of women

I figured putting money towards efficiency would not only allow me to create more units, but it
would also bring down the amount of wastage as to where increasing SCU would create more
wastage and also make the efficiency upgrades that I would purchase less effective per dollar. This
is likely because with more SCU, comes more equipment and more employees that need to be
trained or upgraded with efficiency updates in order to improve production and productivity.
Therefore, less units equals less distribution of upgrades.
I essentially wanted to be an efficient company that could maintain a steadily increasing Share
Holder Value with as few expenditures as possible, and it seemed to be working for a while. I
also wanted to have a higher number of sales as it seemed the more sales I had, the less customers
the competition had to sell to keeping their sales down a little bit.

Summary Of The Book A Clockwork Orange, Burgess By...
In the fiction world, writers have an idea of creating society with perfect human morals but
establishing those ideas to real life people can see that there is no such thing as perfect. Anthony
Burgess incorporates this idea into many of his works which accentuate many dark points in his
life; he lost both, his mother and sister at a young age, and his first sexual experience was when he
was seduced by an older woman (41 Facts on Anthony Burgess). The fact the Anthony had many
occupations such like a linguist, critic, poetic, etc. show the vast amount of knowledge and views
he has on the world. He also loved to mix in human nature with religion, trying to help express the

hears about English entering India, he wants to befriend them and become acquaintances. A

Determined to prove him wrong, Aziz is soon encountered by Mrs.Moore, a woman from England

Lynch Syndrome
Lynch syndrome, previously known as hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) is a
parental inherited condition that exposes a person to the risks of cancers, but most commonly
colon cancer1 9. It is a heterozygous autosomal dominant genetic condition, which means that if
only one parent carries the gene for Lynch syndrome (LS), then a 50 percent chance of passing on
the mutation will be passed to each child1 9. LS is limited to families with a known pathogenic
germline mutation2. A germline mutation is when mutations occur in the germ line, which is a
group of cells that contribute to the improvement of gametes2,3,10. To find out how individuals are

The first role is that there is a predisposition to cancer development, meaning that a mutation in
Mlh1 or Msh2 provide alternate causes for LS2,5. These mutations are distinguished because of
the presence of CpG islands and following transcriptional loss of single genetic alleles of the
affected gene, which results in the comparison of a heterozygous mutation2,10. CpG islands are
clusters of the sequence CG which may be gathered near promoter regions in a gene10. Another
role is when the Lynch associated tumors developed as a result a somatic loss of function of the
last normal allele of the mutated gene2. Somatic loss of function is a genetic change that takes

Having never experienced a positive way to express his feeling in his childhood it caused him to
be so cold and empty in side. He was as inhuman and void of emotions as his small childhood pet.
Once the world s inhabitants are wiped out, Snowman is left with the task of taking care of the
Crakers. Whether it is the fact that Snowman wants to be the parent he never had, or if he just
simply doesn t want to lose his only somewhat human interactions, it is evident that he cares about
these creatures. In the time of crisis he exhibits a compassionate reasonability toward the Crakers
because it is his duty to look after the new race of humans. Perhaps the only positive by product of
his dysfunctional childhood is that he knows what it is like to be deserted and left uncared for so
he strives now in his adulthood as Snowman to protect the Crakers as best he can. Even though

The Effects Of Lowering Stress On College Students
There isn t a better, more comforting feeling, than coming home after a long, hard day at work
or school and being welcomed at the door with a wagging tail, wet kisses, and an excited to see
you face from your dog. For many, having any sort of interaction with a pet or animal is the
ultimate cure to stress that is caused by work, people, and life. While not every college student is
able to have a loving pet in their lives, even a momentary encounter with any animal can lower
stress and anxietylevels. Multiple studies have proven that animals are a powerful form of stress
relief by not only lowering blood pressure, but also lowering a dangerous stress hormone, cortisol,
which is correlated with depression and anxiety. Interactions with animals have also proven to
raise oxytocin levels, which are linked to pleasure, relaxation and happiness. Lowering stress and
anxiety in college students will help them academically and socially throughout their college lives.
College students will experience lower stress levels, a lower level of cortisol, and live a happier
stress free life by interacting with animals or pets throughout their time in college.
With more and more college students becoming depressed and anxious, researchers have been
working hard to try and improve college student lifestyles. According to Therese Borchard,
associate editor of World of Psychology, at least 44 percent of American college students reported
feeling symptoms of depression this past year (Borchard).

The Human Condition Essay
The Human Condition
Does life ever seem pointless and discouraging? In Albert Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus
describes the correlation between Sisyphus s fate and the human condition. In the selection,
everyday is the same for Sisyphus. Sisyphus is condemned to rolling a rock up a mountain for
eternity. Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus forces one to contemplate Sisyphus s fate, how it relates to
the human condition, and how it makes the writer feel about her part in life.
Camus states if this myth is tragic, that is because its hero is conscious (Camus). Condemned by
the gods, Sisyphus does not acknowledge his fate until after the rock rolls back down the mountain
and he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he starts to find meaning in his fate, starts to enjoy what he does, almost to take pride in
his work, like a true laborer. Thus, Sisyphus is the absurd hero, because, like people he has a goal
he believes that he can ultimately accomplish (Camus). He, in his own small way spites the gods
by taking delight in pushing this rock over and over again.
How might one feel about this essay and her position in life? The writer feels as though life in
essence is futile and hopeless (Camus). For example, day after day the writer continually gets
up and goes to school. Many will feel disheartened by another day of doing things he or she may
not want to do. Nevertheless, one would rather go to school and endure the torture of being in
school than sitting at home for hours on end doing absolutely nothing or at a job she may not
enjoy. Hence, why students welcome the summer, but after a few weeks they yearn to be in
school again or why the depressed are depressed. The writer is no different. One is happiest when
there are responsibilities to fill one s day rather than a day without promise.
Life can seem futile and hopeless. However, it only seems that way to people who don t take
pleasure in what they do. Sisyphus realizes that if he just sat around all day instead of pushing that
rock, he would never

Essay On Natural Immunity Against Malaria
Natural Immunity against malaria:
Natural immunity against asexual stage parasites develops with repetitive exposure to malaria
parasites and thus forms the basis of clinical immunity against malaria (Baird, Jones et al. 1991,
Day and Marsh 1991, Trape, Rogier et al. 1994, Baird 1995, Baird 1998, Hviid 2005). Though
clinical immunity to malaria has been shown to develop in individuals, it does not prevent
reinfection due to several factors including the complex life cycle of the parasite and insufficiency
of the magnitude of effective antibodies. Susceptibility to P. falciparum was shown to be
independent of the number of years of exposure to the parasite, and age dependent protective

2012, Aguilar, Magallon Tejada et al. 2014, Joice, Nilsson et al. 2014)while the mature stage V
gametocytes are observed in the blood. These newly formed gametocytes developing as
intraerythrocytic stages present several new antigens to the human immune system during each
infection cycle. These immunologically identifiable forms are clear targets for the host immune
system and both innate and adaptive immune responses are expected to become active against
them. Naturally acquired antibodies against gametocytes exist (Graves, Carter et al. 1988, Paul,
Vengesai et al. 2016, Bansal, Vengesai et al. 2017, Gebru, Ajua et al. 2017) and may play a role in
controlling transmission by limiting the gametocyte development in the circulation or by
interrupting gamete development and fertilization in the mosquito following ingestion. In particular
antibodies against Pfs48/45 and Pfs230 gametocyte proteins effectively target male and female
gamete surface and block mosquito stage development of the malaria parasites.
Analysis of investigations carried out in areas of different malaria endemicity have shown wide
variation in the frequency and prevalence of these antibodies (Bousema and Drakeley 2011).
Studies have demonstrated that while natural immunity does develop against sexual stages, little is
known about age dependent pattern of the antibodies. Age dependency of the humoral response can
be associated with repetitive exposure to the parasite (Graves, Wirtz et al. 1988,

What Challenges Does South Asian Children Face
South Asian children face many challenges while living in Toronto/Canada. The children are
typically adjusted to the lifestyle of their homeland and find it difficult to re adjust to a new
territory. Settling alone in a new place takes a toll on the children as well as the parents. Leaving
everyone/everything in a search for a better life for their kids, parents struggle to thoroughly
manage taking care of their children to the fullest. Parents have one eye open for their extended
familyand one eye open for their kids. As a result, the children fail to have a companion alongside

The Constitution And The Articles Of Confederation
Rules would be the new topic of discussion at the end of the American Revolution amongst the
newly formed Free states that won their independence from Britain. One huge question loomed
over the Free states, how could they conduct a civilized way of living without another ruler such
as the king of Britain here in America? There needed to be some sort of system that would
generate a control to create a unified country. States were acting and conducting business as if each
state was its own country and this left the America vulnerable on many fronts. Some of the main
issues that surfaced were; How to divide powers between local and national governments? Which
laws should be made, and by whom and who would enforce them? I will address some of the
differences between the Constitution and The Articles of Confederation.
The Articles of Confederation were designed and formed from the thirteen states that created a
Confederation known as the league of friendship ; their goal was to find solutions for problems;
and one of the first attempts to create a system. The Articles of Confederation was our nation s first
constitution; during the last years of the Revolutionary war, the government had been conducting
our country s affairs helping to negotiate the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
The Articles of Confederation were a set of principles set forth that got our nation through the

This is supported by the line where it says and like a blade you stain, well I ve been holding on
tonight , which is a metaphor for how the death of his grandmother has stained his heart,
(possibly meaning he is cut up about her death),he can t forget her nor let go of his guilt for
leaving her before she died. Both Helena and Remembrance complement each other due to the
fact that they both speak of a lifetime terminated too early. The tone of Helena is mournful but
angry, perhaps at himself for not being there when he lost a love one, one could even say fervent
and regretful, for example, when he says you are the very hurt you sold which reflects his hurting
and how he was angry towards others because he was angry with himself, we are so far from you
which depicts his realisation that he will never see his grandmother again, and every star fall
brought you to tears again , which tells of how every little thing that reminded him of her brought
him to grief. Both poems

The Road by Cormac McCarthy Essay
he Road, written by Cormac McCarthy was inspired by a trip he took with his young son to El
Paso Texas. He was imaging what the town would look like 100 years into the future and he
though of fires on the hill and then thought about his son s safety. McCarthy admitted to having
conversations with his brother about different scenarios for the apocalypse. For example,
cannibalism, when everything is gone, the only thing left to eat is each other. He made some notes
about this vision of his, but didn t act on it until a few years later in 2006, while in Ireland. He
started and finished the novel and dedicated it to his son, John Francis McCarthy. In addition to this
history behind the novel, The Roadhas received a plethora of reviews... Show more content on

The connection that the man feels with his son is sacred and throughout the novel the man
makes great sacrifices to allow his son to live on and have a future in a world that has gone dim.
He shows his son how to carry the fire , first with his help, and then, later, without him. The novel
opens after some unknown apocalyptic event has struck the entire world. Neither the man nor
the boy is given a name; this anonymity adds to the novel s tone that this could be happening
anywhere, to anyone. McCarthy also chooses to not use any quotation marks in dialogue. This
was very interesting, but makes sense because this is a post apocalyptic story, and the exemption
of these punctuation elements might serve as a way for McCarthy to indicate that in this new
world, things of the old world like electricity, running water, and humanity; no longer exists, or
they exist in very scarce amounts. The first few pages of the novel establish us in the scenery.
The land is filled with ash and the remains of living animals and vegetation. Many of the
remaining human survivors have resorted to cannibalism, scavenging the rubble of city and
country alike for flesh. The father carries a revolver with him with only two bullets inside. We
assume that they are for him and his son if need be. We then find out the boy is told to use the gun
on himself, if necessary. During their journey the father uses one bullet to kill a man who

Beatty Samuelson Essay
7. Bluffing can be ethical, depending on the circumstances and how it is employed. In fact, Beatty
Samuelson, in Essentials of Business Law, points out the Kantian evasion or plater , which serves
as the basis for deceiving someone in an ethical way. She describes it as a truthful statement that is
nonetheless misleading (36). For instance, Kant s example of a murderer coming to our door asking
for someone who is in our own home and who he wants to kill illustrates an instance when
answering questions fully could lead to terrible consequences (36). In that case, Samuelson argues,
telling the truth and pointing the killer to the victim would be very costly, so it is better to employ
Kant s evasion principle and reply with a truthful, but misleading statement. Immanuel Kant,
according to Samuelson,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although gender discrimination currently receives intermediate Fourteenth Amendment Scrutiny,
they should receive strict scrutiny. As Samuelson points out, like in the case of race, A
government action interfering with a fundamental right receives strict scrutiny and will likely be
declared void (127). Gender discrimination, just like race discrimination, should also be
considered an interference with a fundamental right and, therefore, receive strict scrutiny. The
repercussions of the severe problem of gender discrimination in American society can be seen in
the gender pay gap in our country. In fact, according to the Institute for Women s Policy
Research, In 2014, female full time workers made only 79 cents for every dollar earned by men,
a gender wage gap of 21 percent. Women, on average, earn less than men in virtually every single
occupation for which there is sufficient earnings data for both men and women to calculate an
earnings ratio. The fact that women are discriminated on the basis of gender in the workplace and
paid less than men is sufficient to argue that gender discrimination should be treated with the same
scrutiny as race

Analysis Of The Poem I Am Struck By The Irony Between...
At one hundred years young, my grandmother passed away. As the matriarch of our family, we felt
both saddened and relieved to see her go. She was an independent, educated, hardworking woman
who cherished her family and friends. Stories she shared about her youth and her numerous life
experiences supported me and guided me. Much of my personal identity formed in connection to
her. My grandmother s landscape, traditions, and identity lives on through me and my family. We,
as people, construct identities to both give life meaning and to make meaning of life.
Momaday makes meaning of his life and culture through the unique textual structure of The Way to
Rainy Mountain. While reading, I almost felt as if I was reading poetry versus a novel. The
inclusion of mythology makes the reading have a poetic tone. Within this beautifully constructed
piece of literature, I am struck by the irony between Momaday s connection to his grandmother and
the Kiowa treatment of women.
In the introduction to Momaday s piece of literature, he reveals a deep connection and reverence
for his grandmother, Aho. Momaday values her life and her memories because they give his life
meaning and help him construct his personal identity. He clearly expounded how, the immense
landscape of the continental interior [of Rainy Mountain] lay like a memory in her
blood...[Momaday] wanted to see in reality what she had seen more perfectly in the mind s eye
(Momaday, 1969, p. 7). At this point, he is

Application Essay To Phi Theta Kappa
Attending the upcoming international conference will help me grow, both culturally and
intellectually. I do not have many opportunities to travel, and I feel that this will be a great chance
for me to expand my world, and learn more about Phi Theta Kappa.
I believe that learning from this trip will help me to better serve my chapter and my school. This
experience will help me learn more about Phi Theta Kappa, and what I can do to improve my
chapter. I have lived in my own little bubble for far to long, I need this chance to spread myself
out, and really learn about other people and places. This experience would be very rewarding for
me, and help me to expand my horizons.
I would love this opportunity to be involved with Phi Theta Kappa This will be an excellent way
for me to meet other Phi Theta Kappa members. I can get to know more people in similar
situations to my own, I can learn from them, and maybe they can learn from me. As a college

A Desire Unspoken In Baby Driver By Edgar Wright
A Desire Unspoken Women should be seen, not heard. A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some
point in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a
woman s worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises
the traits of obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout
history women s lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who
listens to her father, being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting
anything for themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for
her own happiness, but to make others happy. A womanmust be self sacrificing and put the wants
and needs of her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own
happiness for others is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again
women are used as tragic martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years
popular film Baby Driver by Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or
personality of her own. She only exists in relation to the main character and is there to make
him happy and feel good. Even in current films and media women are still being portrayed as one
dimensional props whose only purpose is to look pretty and be agreeable. That is why watching the
movie Carol by Todd Haynes felt like a breath of

Edward Livingston Voices Of Freedom
Until the 1770s most colonists believed themselves to be the freest political system humankind has
ever known (Foner 73). Overtime conflict began as tension began to build between the colonists
and British authority due to many factors one including a series of acts meant to punish the
colonies for their defiance against Great Britain. Over time this led to the fight for the independence
of the thirteen coloniesalso known as the revolutionary war.
In voices of freedom the author of article twenty three , Edward Livingston established the
difference between a limited monarchy and absolute monarchy. Livingston s believed that any

rural areas to those who were not previously part of the resistance. soon in 1774 a colonial protest

A Student s Academic Success
A college campus is purposefully built to help students succeed. Many campuses include a library,
sports fields, computer labs, a gym, among other shops, food vendors, and resources for students.
It is safe to make the claim that a college library is the most useful building on a college campus.
Everything a student needs to succeed can be found in the library. From the quiet atmosphere, to
the useful resources, and helpful staff and students, the library contributes a large part to a student s
academic success at Cumberland County College. As part of a student s academic success, he or she
must feel comfortable in his or her working environment. The college library provides the perfect
atmosphere to fulfill wide variety of student needs. Every student has a different study technique,
some prefer a quiet, low stress atmosphere, while others prefer to have music and Facebook as
constant background noise. Both types students have an equally opportunity to be successful, if
given the proper study environment. A college library is universal in the types of students that it
can accommodate. Group learners have the opportunity to reserve a group work room where
they can talk, argue, yell, and better themselves as learners; meanwhile, independent learners can
find safety at a private study desk that is so quiet a pin drop could be heard. In addition to the
diverse atmospheres offered in the library, the room is built to feel calm. The walls and floors are

Choosing A Career At Young Age
Imagination is everything. It is the preview of lifeВґs coming attractions. (Albert Einstein)
Choosing a career at young age expands the imagination in oneВґs mind. At the age of five, my
imagination was expanding because that was all I thought about. Growing up to me meant there
would be plenty of responsibilities that would have to be taken care of. This is something that our
parents teach us while growing up. What is more important of those teachings is the significance. If
you can pursue any career path, then do it without the ideas of others. This is what I did. The
actions of others affect your thoughts. My elementary and middle schoolyears changed my
perspective of how my life would be while growing up. I experienced bullying and behaviors that
left me surprised. There were careless teachers, rude comments of how I would grow up to be,
and the words, You will never be good enough unspoken, but still meant. I would just think this
was normal, but it would continue for years. Then bad things turn for the good. I was given the
opportunity to start over by going to a new school. There I was exposed to the career of Criminal
Justice. This is where I had my mind set. The past years of bullying affected my way of making
decisions. I felt like I had to run my decisions through somebody. That somebody were my parents.
Each one of our parents dream of their childВґs future, so I was hoping we both had the same
thoughts. After being at my new school for one year, I

Modern Horror Film Analysis
Why are modern audiences still going to watch horror movies? How are they still scared of
vampires, zombies, and conveniently isolated cabins? Perhaps the horror comes from the new
stories told with that same tool set. As New York Times film reviewer A. O. Scott says in his
thoughts on Drew Goddard s The Cabin in The Woods, Novelty and genre traditionalism often
fight to a draw. Scott s claim is correct, finding a delicate balance between novel plot devices and
reliable scares is one of the main troubles of the modern horror genre. Many modern horror films,
The Cabin in the Woods included, use their novelty to create a compelling story while scaring
the audience with the classic tropes. Modern horror films don t have to scare in a whole new
way, and they often don t. But, a predictable movie is a boring one, and as such novelty is used to
keep the audience on their toes during modern horror films. Though novel horror films such as The
Cabin in the Woods and Cargo don t need novelty to create fear, the novelty is essential in balancing
with the demands of the genre to create interesting stories.
The Cabin in the Woods is a 2011 horror filmdirected by Drew Goddard that follows the slasher
film roadmap to a tee, yet is sure to keep audiences enthralled throughout. Five teenagers head out
to an isolated forest cabin to be indiscriminately killed by a gang of terrifying monsters. The film
soon shows it s full hand, however, when it is revealed that the monsters are under the

Effects of Zoning on Housing Option Value.
The 2011 New Orleans International Academic Conference New Orleans, Louisiana USA 2011
Effects Of Zoning On Housing Option Value Prathamesh Muzumdar, Illinois State University,
Normal, USA Abstract The research explores the subject of zoning effect on price value of a
house in a certain designated zone. Zoning is defined as a land under planned use. This results
in price value of the land. As the area of the land decreases an increase in price occurs. This
research does not specify the magnitude of a certain unit by which a housing price will increase or
decrease but it estimates the housing option value. This research helps the policy makers to
improve long term policy decisions. This research will showcase zoning effects on... Show more

In his thesis, zoning was described both advantageous and disadvantageous. Disadvantages were
found to be failure to increase the efficiency for a proportion of land to its use. In spite of the
back drop, zoning has proved to its practicality in USA as land availability is greater as
compared to that of UK. This proves that zoning is effective way of urban planning over a
greater stretch of land. Glasear and Gyaurko estimated changes in housing price resulting in
housing affordability which results due to zoning impact. They have argued in their research that
housing prices differ in different area as per zoning pattern. The pattern change occurs for
different region of different states. Due to this housing price in California is greater as compared
to other states. Zoning in USA is of 4 types: Euclidian, Performance, Incentive, Design Based 1.
Euclidean: It is used mostly in small towns and large cities. Segregation of land is done on
specified geographic district and dimensional standards stipulating limitations on development
activity within each type of district. Performance: It is performance based or goal oriented criteria
to establish review parameters for proposed development projects. This type of zoning is intended
to provide flexibility, rationality, transparency and accountability avoiding arbitrariness of the
Euclidian approach and better accommodating market principles and private

  • 2. What Was The Relationship Between The Neolithic And... The Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions The two changes in the use of the earth s resources that had the greatest effect on the world population were the Neolithic and the industrial revolutions. The Neolithic revolution (a.k.a. agricultural revolution) was a change in the way of life of our ancestors. It took place about 8000 years ago among various tribes in Asia and the Middle East. It included a transition from foraging and hunting to the domestication of animals (most probably starting with the dog) and to farming. Tribes settled in fertile areas and formed agricultural communities many of which grew into villages and cities. This relatively stable way of life and the more reliable food supply (and surplus) led to the development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biogeochemical cycles In the carbon cycle, the key events are the complementary reactions of respiration and photosynthesis. Respiration takes carbohydrates and oxygen and combines them to produce carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Photosynthesis (6CO + 12H O + Light Energy C H O + 6O +6H O) takes carbon dioxide and water and produces carbohydrates and oxygen. The outputs of respiration are the inputs of photosynthesis, and the outputs of photosynthesis are the inputs of respiration. The reactions are also complementary in the way they deal with energy. Photosynthesis takes energy from the sun and stores it in the carbon carbon bonds of carbohydrates; respiration releases that energy. Both plants and animals carry on respiration, but only plants and other producers can carry on photosynthesis. The chief reservoirs for carbon dioxide are in the oceans and in rock. Carbon dioxide dissolves readily in water. Once there, it may precipitate as a solid rock known as calcium carbonate. Corals and algae encourage this reaction and build up limestone reefs in the process. On land and in the water, plants take up carbon dioxide and convert it into carbohydrates through photosynthesis. This carbon in the plants now has 3 possible endings. It can be returned to the atmosphere by the plant through respiration; it can be eaten by an animal, or it can be present in the plant when the plant dies. Animals obtain all their carbon in their food, and, thus, all carbon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. At T Mobile Case Summary It really doesn t get better than this. T Mobile 1Q16 results were good...again. For an industry that is competitive and mature, the company has done an incredible job of continuously adding subscribers and taking market share from industry leaders AT T (NYSE:T) and Verizon (NYSE:VZ), and overtaking its nearest competitor Sprint (NYSE:S) last year. 1Q16 results saw the company add its 12th straight quarter of subscriber additions of over 1 million. Revenue rose 11% to $8.6 billion, driven by a 13% increase in service revenue to $6.6 bn. PAT came in at $479 million (EPS $0.56), compared with a loss of $63 million in 1Q15 (EPS: $0.09). While results were clearly better than consensus estimates, the increase in guidance is what increases the confidence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I expect that as mature, incumbent players, AT T and Verizon are unlikely to make the price changes necessary to really stop T Mobile s momentum, and instead are likely to focus on maintaining cash flow. With Sprint now focused on cost cutting and maintaining liquidity, it is also no longer a real threat to T Mobile s operational and earnings momentum. The only real challenge that T Mobile will face is to prove to customers that even though its network may not be as big as AT T s or Verizon s, it is just as good. While quality seems better so far, the verdict is not yet in, and T Mobile needs to augment coverage in some areas to catch up. So what does all this momentum in subscriber addition lead to? It leads to higher revenue and for a capex intensive industry, operating leverage benefits! T Mobile has seen its EBITDA margin expand from 25% in FY14 to 30% in 2015 and 32% in 1Q16. More importantly, the company is also reporting strong improvement in FCF. The company reported FCF of $1.0 billion in FY15 versus a negative FCF of $ 90 million in FY14. Factset consensus expects the company to report FCF of $2.0 bn in FY16, implying FCF growth of almost 100% over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Jerry Tello Analysis The presentation that Jerry Tello gave was like none I ve been to before. It was very entertaining and informational all at once. There were a few parts that really struck a cord for me, but I m going to focus on one particular one because I understand and relate to it and I find it extremely irritated by how more and more children don t know, agree with or understand what s wrong. He described how one day when he was a little boy he sighed and turned his back on his motherwhen she was asking his to do something and he was spanked by his father for the first and only time in his life. I was taught at a very young age to always respect my elders and to never talk back (of course there are certain circumstances to where that doesn t apply). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your job is to provide, teach and support your children. More specifically, to teach them how to be able to function in the world. This means teaching them how to behave respectfully to others, not just you. If you re not a single parent home or if you have help from others it is especially important for you guys to be on the same page on how to teach what you need to and how discipline works into the situation because if not, more than likely the first thing the child or children will do is try to pin you guys against each other (I say this because that is what me and my siblings tried to do...it only worked once). It s good to catch disrespectful behavior early if possible. If your child is rude or disrespectful, it s not good to turn a blind eye. Giving consequences when children are younger will pay off in the long run. It may sound old fashioned, but I find that it s very important to teach your child basic manners like saying please , may I and thank you. If you think about it, when your child deals with their teachers, others outside the household or even gets their first job these common manners will really go a long way and using manners is also a form of empathy. It also teaches your children to respect others and acknowledge their impact on other people. As a parent myself (though my child is still young but I have raised others) I also find it a good idea to communicate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently, JPMorgan is leading Wells Fargoin ranking, however last year Wells Fargo was on top. The decrease in business came from the direct effect of the scandal. The company is now working towards moving forward and reaching the top in the banking industry. Moreover, the company s network is shrinking due to an increase in technology. With online and mobile banking, there has become a decline in the need for so many banks. As said by CNNMoney, 84 locations were drop in the year 2016 and they expect to cut 300 more by 2018. Sadly in July of 2011, Amy passed away at the young age of twenty seven, leaving behind her musical legacy. Back to Black is one of her most popular albums that shows off her beautiful voice and thoughtful composition. Due to its unique traits in modern music, it will continue to be played. This album is truly a work of art based on Amy s use of meaningful lyrics in her songs, her strong unique voice, and her particular take on jazz. I feel that Back to Black is an outstanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think this album is marvelous for a few reasons, one being her lyrics. The lyrics express struggles within Amy s life that can be considered controversial. Amy would express and confront her troubles in a fearless way within each song, which makes her music even more wonderful. In the documentary film, Amy, they quoted her saying, I wouldn t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just cause I wouldn t be able to tell the story right because I wouldn t have done it. Even though the songs are personal, in a sad way, I d never let it just be that. I d always put in a punch line in the song just trying to be different with my lyrics (Winehouse). She spoke the truth and showed her sincere attitude, which made her vulnerable, but made her real and unique. Amy s main experience that effected the lyrics that she wrote was her ordeal with her ex husband Blake. Her experience with Blake was clearly shown in the song Back to Black when Amy sang You went back to what you knew, so far removed from all that we went through (Winehouse), which conveys the way Amy felt when Blake left her to go back to his girlfriend. Another reason why I believe this album is outstanding is due to Amy s powerful and distinctive voice. Her voice is strong and charismatic. Her vocal style compares to that of a sixties soul singer. Amy s tone and mood is expressed clearly through her voice. Even when she wasn t singing her lyrics, the sounds she made within her songs expressed the mood. Her voice glints with possibility: tart, smoky, ready to flirt or sob, and capable of the jazzy timing of a Dinah Washington or the declamation of soul singers like Martha Reeves and Carla Thomas (Pareles). The main reason why I find this album most successful is that there is no other album out there that sounds similar. Ms. Winehouse has grown up on hip hop s version of R B, which chops the old dramatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Criminalization Of Hiv Transmission The criminalization of HIV transmission has sparked many debates on how the law and health policy are related and how they both have a profound impact on health. HIV criminalization was a policy meant to incapacitate and rehabilitate those transmitting the disease to others while the retribution of the act would deter others from engaging in transmission . However, the harsh realities of criminalization have caused many to reconsider its original purpose. The criminalization of HIVtransmission in Canada has negative implications on health. This paper will argue that by criminalizing HIV transmission there is a greater chance of individuals not getting tested, that living with HIV can be extremely difficult within the criminal justicesystem, and that criminalization does not address broader, structural issues that cause HIV transmission. The history of HIV criminalization in Canada is rooted in the 1998 case of the Supreme Court of Canada (R. v. Cuerrier), where the court found that an individual could be convicted of sexual assault if they do not disclose their HIV status to their sexual partner . Since then, over 70 people in Canada have been criminally charged for not disclosing their HIV status to their sexual partner . In 2012, the criminalization of HIV transmission reached a new level of overreach by finding that an individual could be convicted for sexual assault in a situation where there is a realistic possibility of HIV transmission. • 13. Epic Of Gilgamesh Analysis In the Epic of Gilgamesh , it is easy to conclude that Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the story, is the hero. In Like Mayflies in a Stream , Gilgamesh is merely a scary person who appears in the story here or there rather than being the protagonist. Instead, Shamhat is the main person that the story focuses on, but the book is imprecise on one heroof the entire story. There are numerous characters that could reflect hero aspects such as going on a quest, having another to help guide them, or facing trials. Along with this, many people call Shamhat a whore when her pregnant stomach begins to show. Women, and girls for that matter, as Nameshda was only 13, were raped by Gilgamesh. Shamhat is the older sister in her family, yet her younger brother Geshtu gets to make all of the decisions for the family. The scenarios in this book are contemplative of how women are viewed and treated compared to the men of society. Patriarchy is correct by their standards, and having women in any sort of important role is almost nonexistent. Due to this condescending view, we can understand why it would be difficult to have Shamhat as the hero in this story. If men are the superior ones, wouldn t it make sense to have a man as the hero? In the event that a woman was a hero in this story, it may make readers predict that the entire society will change their outlook on women by the end of the story. On the other hand, others may think that Roberts was trying too hard to modernize this epic. With this issue, Roberts could fear that creating this story with a female hero may be too contemporary and take away from the true epic. She already modernized the book somewhat by adding in a love triangle and happily ever after ending. Adding a female hero may just completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was a question that was the premise of a dispute between two mathematicians, Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz. The discovery of a new branch of mathematics requires years of research and trial and error experiments. That is why, when the controversy arose concerning the genuine Father of Calculus , one of the biggest intellectual controversies emerged. Isaac Newtonand Gottfried Leibnizeach claimed that they established calculus as a true branch of mathematics on their own. However, it is highly improbable that two men working independently of one another reached the same conclusions on a topic as broad as modern calculus. These claims lead the public to ask the question: who was the great mastermind behind this now universally used branch of science? While it is true that both men contributed in content to Calculus, the controversial belief that Leibniz plagiarized Newton s work, changing only a few minute details and publishing his findings before Newton had a chance to publish his, is the fuel that caused this controversy to become one of the greatest mathematical disputes in history. In the 18th century, women were only given the power to submit to bear children, submit to their husband, and be a housewife. Oryx and Crake Essay December 12, 2013 The Importance of Childhood in Oryx And Crake In Atwood s novel Oryx and Crake we see the cause and effect of how our childhood and how we are raised has a large correlation to what type of adult we become. Through the character of Jimmy and later his new persona Snowman, the reader is shown the detrimental effects of an abandoned childhood. Not only do Jimmy s poor choices in his adult life have a clear link to his neglected and unguided childhood they also create an adult that is emotionally damaged and unable to see the right path in his life even when he wants to. Atwood s similarities between Jimmy and Snowman and their relationship in his childhood through to adulthood clearly exemplify the cause and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having never experienced a positive way to express his feeling in his childhood it caused him to be so cold and empty in side. He was as inhuman and void of emotions as his small childhood pet. Once the world s inhabitants are wiped out, Snowman is left with the task of taking care of the Crakers. Whether it is the fact that Snowman wants to be the parent he never had, or if he just simply doesn t want to lose his only somewhat human interactions, it is evident that he cares about these creatures. In the time of crisis he exhibits a compassionate reasonability toward the Crakers because it is his duty to look after the new race of humans. Perhaps the only positive by product of his dysfunctional childhood is that he knows what it is like to be deserted and left uncared for so he strives now in his adulthood as Snowman to protect the Crakers as best he can. Even though Crakers original vision for these creature was to make them Godless and without art, Snowman taught them things in there childhood that contradicted there original thoughts. Snowman teaches them about the world and tries to make them understand their surroundings better, even though his explanations make him feel isolated and alone; reminding him of the sad childhood that he had. He gives them something to believe in and he teaches them right from wrong. He becomes the parent that he wishes he had had.Atwood seems to marvel or poke fun at what our youth can ... The Effects Of Lowering Stress On College Students There isn t a better, more comforting feeling, than coming home after a long, hard day at work or school and being welcomed at the door with a wagging tail, wet kisses, and an excited to see you face from your dog. For many, having any sort of interaction with a pet or animal is the ultimate cure to stress that is caused by work, people, and life. While not every college student is able to have a loving pet in their lives, even a momentary encounter with any animal can lower stress and anxietylevels. Multiple studies have proven that animals are a powerful form of stress relief by not only lowering blood pressure, but also lowering a dangerous stress hormone, cortisol, which is correlated with depression and anxiety. Interactions with animals have also proven to raise oxytocin levels, which are linked to pleasure, relaxation and happiness. Lowering stress and anxiety in college students will help them academically and socially throughout their college lives. College students will experience lower stress levels, a lower level of cortisol, and live a happier stress free life by interacting with animals or pets throughout their time in college. With more and more college students becoming depressed and anxious, researchers have been working hard to try and improve college student lifestyles. According to Therese Borchard, associate editor of World of Psychology, at least 44 percent of American college students reported feeling symptoms of depression this past year (Borchard). ... In Albert Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus describes the correlation between Sisyphus s fate and the human condition. In the selection, everyday is the same for Sisyphus. Sisyphus is condemned to rolling a rock up a mountain for eternity. Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus forces one to contemplate Sisyphus s fate, how it relates to the human condition, and how it makes the writer feel about her part in life. Camus states if this myth is tragic, that is because its hero is conscious (Camus). Instead, he starts to find meaning in his fate, starts to enjoy what he does, almost to take pride in his work, like a true laborer. Thus, Sisyphus is the absurd hero, because, like people he has a goal he believes that he can ultimately accomplish (Camus). He, in his own small way spites the gods by taking delight in pushing this rock over and over again. How might one feel about this essay and her position in life? The writer feels as though life in essence is futile and hopeless (Camus). For example, day after day the writer continually gets up and goes to school. Many will feel disheartened by another day of doing things he or she may not want to do. Nevertheless, one would rather go to school and endure the torture of being in school than sitting at home for hours on end doing absolutely nothing or at a job she may not enjoy. Hence, why students welcome the summer, but after a few weeks they yearn to be in school again or why the depressed are depressed. The writer is no different. One is happiest when there are responsibilities to fill one s day rather than a day without promise. Life can seem futile and hopeless. However, it only seems that way to people who don t take pleasure in what they do. Sisyphus realizes that if he just sat around all day instead of pushing that rock, he would never ... Essay On Natural Immunity Against Malaria Natural Immunity against malaria: Natural immunity against asexual stage parasites develops with repetitive exposure to malaria parasites and thus forms the basis of clinical immunity against malaria (Baird, Jones et al. 1991, Day and Marsh 1991, Trape, Rogier et al. 1994, Baird 1995, Baird 1998, Hviid 2005). Though clinical immunity to malaria has been shown to develop in individuals, it does not prevent reinfection due to several factors including the complex life cycle of the parasite and insufficiency of the magnitude of effective antibodies. Susceptibility to P. falciparum was shown to be independent of the number of years of exposure to the parasite, and age dependent protective immunity developed over a two year period of repeated ... These immunologically identifiable forms are clear targets for the host immune system and both innate and adaptive immune responses are expected to become active against them. Naturally acquired antibodies against gametocytes exist (Graves, Carter et al. 1988, Paul, Vengesai et al. 2016, Bansal, Vengesai et al. 2017, Gebru, Ajua et al. 2017) and may play a role in controlling transmission by limiting the gametocyte development in the circulation or by interrupting gamete development and fertilization in the mosquito following ingestion. In particular antibodies against Pfs48/45 and Pfs230 gametocyte proteins effectively target male and female gamete surface and block mosquito stage development of the malaria parasites. Analysis of investigations carried out in areas of different malaria endemicity have shown wide variation in the frequency and prevalence of these antibodies (Bousema and Drakeley 2011). Studies have demonstrated that while natural immunity does develop against sexual stages, little is known about age dependent pattern of the antibodies. The Constitution And The Articles Of Confederation Rules would be the new topic of discussion at the end of the American Revolution amongst the newly formed Free states that won their independence from Britain. One huge question loomed over the Free states, how could they conduct a civilized way of living without another ruler such as the king of Britain here in America? There needed to be some sort of system that would generate a control to create a unified country. States were acting and conducting business as if each state was its own country and this left the America vulnerable on many fronts. Some of the main issues that surfaced were; How to divide powers between local and national governments? Which laws should be made, and by whom and who would enforce them? I will address some of the differences between the Constitution and The Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were designed and formed from the thirteen states that created a Confederation known as the league of friendship ; their goal was to find solutions for problems; and one of the first attempts to create a system. The Articles of Confederation was our nation s first constitution; during the last years of the Revolutionary war, the government had been conducting our country s affairs helping to negotiate the Treaty of Paris in 1783. Using a pensive and sorrowful tone, Bronte portrays her sadness for a love cut short by her death, and her regret that she is forgetting her memories of her lover. Helena complements this with the emotional lyric My Chemical Romance s singer, Gerard Way, wrote about the painful passing of his beloved grandmother whilst he was on tour, and how he felt he neglected her due to his travels. Obviously, as this song was written about his grandmothers passing, the theme is death. This is supported by the line where it says and like a blade you stain, well I ve been holding on tonight , which is a metaphor for how the death of his grandmother has stained his heart, (possibly meaning he is cut up about her death),he can t forget her nor let go of his guilt for leaving her before she died. Both Helena and Remembrance complement each other due to the fact that they both speak of a lifetime terminated too early. The tone of Helena is mournful but angry, perhaps at himself for not being there when he lost a love one, one could even say fervent and regretful, for example, when he says you are the very hurt you sold which reflects his hurting and how he was angry towards others because he was angry with himself, we are so far from you which depicts his realisation that he will never see his grandmother again, and every star fall brought you to tears again , which tells of how every little thing that reminded him of her brought him to grief. Neither the man nor the boy is given a name; this anonymity adds to the novel s tone that this could be happening anywhere, to anyone. McCarthy also chooses to not use any quotation marks in dialogue. This was very interesting, but makes sense because this is a post apocalyptic story, and the exemption of these punctuation elements might serve as a way for McCarthy to indicate that in this new world, things of the old world like electricity, running water, and humanity; no longer exists, or they exist in very scarce amounts. The first few pages of the novel establish us in the scenery. The land is filled with ash and the remains of living animals and vegetation. Many of the remaining human survivors have resorted to cannibalism, scavenging the rubble of city and country alike for flesh. The father carries a revolver with him with only two bullets inside. In fact, Beatty Samuelson, in Essentials of Business Law, points out the Kantian evasion or plater , which serves as the basis for deceiving someone in an ethical way. She describes it as a truthful statement that is nonetheless misleading (36). For instance, Kant s example of a murderer coming to our door asking for someone who is in our own home and who he wants to kill illustrates an instance when answering questions fully could lead to terrible consequences (36). A phrase not unfamiliar to most, at some point in her life all girls have heard something along the lines of this. A phrase that dictates that a woman s worth lies in her appearance and outer beauty and not in her mind. A phrase that praises the traits of obedience and submission and shames those who speak their minds. Throughout history women s lives have always been used in the service of others. Being a quite daughter who listens to her father, being a silent wife who obeys her husband. Never complaining, never wanting anything for themselves, just selfless, serving, and silent. A girl grows up learning not to strive for her own happiness, but to make others happy. A womanmust be self sacrificing and put the wants and needs of her family before her own desires. This idea that a woman must sacrifice her own happiness for others is apparent in our own society and in our media. Time and time again women are used as tragic martyrs to further the character development of men. Look at this years popular film Baby Driver by Edgar Wright. The love interest Deborah is given no complexities or personality of her own. She only exists in relation to the main character and is there to make him happy and feel good. • 49. Modern Horror Film Analysis Why are modern audiences still going to watch horror movies? How are they still scared of vampires, zombies, and conveniently isolated cabins? Perhaps the horror comes from the new stories told with that same tool set. As New York Times film reviewer A. O. Scott says in his thoughts on Drew Goddard s The Cabin in The Woods, Novelty and genre traditionalism often fight to a draw. Scott s claim is correct, finding a delicate balance between novel plot devices and reliable scares is one of the main troubles of the modern horror genre. Many modern horror films, The Cabin in the Woods included, use their novelty to create a compelling story while scaring the audience with the classic tropes. Modern horror films don t have to scare in a whole new way, and they often don t. But, a predictable movie is a boring one, and as such novelty is used to keep the audience on their toes during modern horror films. Though novel horror films such as The Cabin in the Woods and Cargo don t need novelty to create fear, the novelty is essential in balancing with the demands of the genre to create interesting stories. The Cabin in the Woods is a 2011 horror filmdirected by Drew Goddard that follows the slasher film roadmap to a tee, yet is sure to keep audiences enthralled throughout.
