Assure Method- 
Justin Peterson. 
Analyze Learners- 
The students are 4th grade children, young, almost even genders, Mostly white, but with several 
students who are of a minority. 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish, and 2 African Americans. 
State Objectives= 
Students will break up into groups of five, chosen so that each group has at least one of the 
minority children within it. 
Each student group will be assigned a major holiday to teach the students about. (Kwanza, 
Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan.) 
Student groups will be read the Wikipedia articles about the holiday they have been given. 
Student groups will produce a poster that shows some part of one of the major holidays. 
Student groups will give a short presentation on the holiday to the rest of the class. 
Selected Methods, Media, Materials. 
Starting with large group instruction, will give an example of a holiday presentation, using a pre 
produced poster, about Chinese New Year, so the students have an idea of what to do on their 
own. The Wikipedia pages for each holiday will be brought up already on computers within the 
classroom. Five blank poster boards, markers, paper, safety scissors, glue, sparkles, etc, shall all 
be available on a central table, along with paper and pens for the students to write down their 
presentation notes. 
Utilize Media and Materials. 
Preview/prepare the materials 
The teacher sets the appropriate Wikipedia sites before the students enter the classrooms. 
Having the materials for construction ready to be used. And then have the Chinese New year 
poster ready to be presented for the example project for the students. 
Prepare the Environment. 
The classroom will be set up so that each set of five desks are in a cluster near each of the four 
computers set up for the holiday research. The desks will have the students’ names written on 
cards on the desks so that they can sit in their groups at the start of class. 
Prepare the Learners 
To set the students up for the project, the teacher presents an example poster and holiday, 
(Chinese new year). And a general set of guidelines of what kind of information should be 
presented for each holiday.
Remind students to avoid racial epitaphs and the need for respect for different religions than 
their own. 
Require Learner Participation 
Large Group Participation 
At class start, teacher gives the example presentation, which lasts only a few moments, then 
presents th basic information that each group needs to present for the project. After the small 
groups finish, they present their holiday and it’s traditions one group at a time at the end of 
class. 
Small Group Participation 
Students will work on their own, as the teacher makes rounds to answer questions and offer 
advice. Students will spend enough time researching and making their posters to get their 
point across, leaving enough time to give the presentations at the end of class. 
Evaluate and revise. 
The teacher will ask the students questions about the holidays at the end of each presentation. 
The students don’t have to answer about their own holidays. This allows the teacher to offer 
new or more complete information, or re explain things that may have been inadequately 
covered by the students. Each student group will receive a grade of pass or fail depending on 
how well they presented orally, how much information they delivered, and how informative 
their posters where. 
Students will be asked to fill out an index card with their general opinion of the lesson and 
anything they would change if given the choice.

Assure method 1

  • 1. Assure Method- Justin Peterson. Analyze Learners- The students are 4th grade children, young, almost even genders, Mostly white, but with several students who are of a minority. 2 Muslims, 3 Jewish, and 2 African Americans. State Objectives= Students will break up into groups of five, chosen so that each group has at least one of the minority children within it. Each student group will be assigned a major holiday to teach the students about. (Kwanza, Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan.) Student groups will be read the Wikipedia articles about the holiday they have been given. Student groups will produce a poster that shows some part of one of the major holidays. Student groups will give a short presentation on the holiday to the rest of the class. Selected Methods, Media, Materials. Starting with large group instruction, will give an example of a holiday presentation, using a pre produced poster, about Chinese New Year, so the students have an idea of what to do on their own. The Wikipedia pages for each holiday will be brought up already on computers within the classroom. Five blank poster boards, markers, paper, safety scissors, glue, sparkles, etc, shall all be available on a central table, along with paper and pens for the students to write down their presentation notes. Utilize Media and Materials. Preview/prepare the materials The teacher sets the appropriate Wikipedia sites before the students enter the classrooms. Having the materials for construction ready to be used. And then have the Chinese New year poster ready to be presented for the example project for the students. Prepare the Environment. The classroom will be set up so that each set of five desks are in a cluster near each of the four computers set up for the holiday research. The desks will have the students’ names written on cards on the desks so that they can sit in their groups at the start of class. Prepare the Learners To set the students up for the project, the teacher presents an example poster and holiday, (Chinese new year). And a general set of guidelines of what kind of information should be presented for each holiday.
  • 2. Remind students to avoid racial epitaphs and the need for respect for different religions than their own. Require Learner Participation Large Group Participation At class start, teacher gives the example presentation, which lasts only a few moments, then presents th basic information that each group needs to present for the project. After the small groups finish, they present their holiday and it’s traditions one group at a time at the end of class. Small Group Participation Students will work on their own, as the teacher makes rounds to answer questions and offer advice. Students will spend enough time researching and making their posters to get their point across, leaving enough time to give the presentations at the end of class. Evaluate and revise. The teacher will ask the students questions about the holidays at the end of each presentation. The students don’t have to answer about their own holidays. This allows the teacher to offer new or more complete information, or re explain things that may have been inadequately covered by the students. Each student group will receive a grade of pass or fail depending on how well they presented orally, how much information they delivered, and how informative their posters where. Students will be asked to fill out an index card with their general opinion of the lesson and anything they would change if given the choice.
