Stereotypes in High School
In high schools all over the world you notice different groups that tend to stick
together. These groups vary depending on where your high school is located. For
example, the groups at my high school are different from those of many of my classmates
here at Marshall University because I am from California. While we were talking about
groups in high school during class, I had never even seen some of these Stereotypes that
were described.
At my high school in Stevenson Ranch, California the main five groups that we
had were the nerds, drama club, jocks, Asians, and Mexicans. If you were to walk onto
my high schools campus, you would see all five of these groups separated throughout our
campus. Our campus had two sections and in the lower section is where you would find
all the Mexicans, we called this area “Brown Town”. Then on the upper campus by the
soda machines you will find all the Asians. They mostly kept to themselves and were
very quiet. The drama club hung out by the outside amphitheater and rarely left that area.
The nerds would hang out close to the classrooms and they were rarely seen walking
across the middle of campus, which is where the jocks hung out with the popular people.
Looking back, our school was definitely separated by different stereotypes.
The different high school groups do vary based on where you are from. My
friends that went to high school here in West Virginia had different groups like rednecks
2. and Goths. However, they are similar because they both had the jocks, nerds, and popular
people. This goes on to show that there are different kinds of people depending on the
region on where you are from. No matter what though, all high schools have their
different groups.
