ASSURE Lesson Plan
Using Facebook in School
By:AwnAlqarni
Analyze Learners
General Characteristics
•
• I would like to work with K12 class at Al Riyadh High School in
the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is comprised of 25 students, and
all of them are male only. The students range in age from 17
years to 20 years. Student diversity consists of four-Egyptian
students white/non-Hispanic, and the rest of students are
Saudis. Al Riyadh High School is located in the middle of Al-
Riyadh city, and this school is fifteen years old. Most students
in this school come from the middle to upper middle class
families, who live around the school. All members are Muslim
students.
Entry Competencies
• Technological: Expect students to have general knowledge of
what a computer and its peripherals are comprised of
(monitor, CPU, printer, keyboard, and mouse), be able to
navigate the internet, basic keyboarding skills, and some
experience with computer usage either through creating
documents, presentations, social networking or gaming.
State Standards and Objectives
• Technology Standards
• According to ISTE Standards Coaches (2011), “Model and
promote diversity, cultural understanding, and global
awareness by using digital age communication and
collaboration tools to interact locally and globally with
students, peers, parents, and the larger community”.
• Lesson Objectives
• Students will use Facebook in this lesson to create a page of
group study. They can use it after school to keep in touch with
their teacher after school, and get more information and
knowledge about the class under an observation from their
teacher.
Select Strategies
• Teacher-Centered Materials
• Computer
• Computer charger
• Projector
• Screen
• Speakers
• Facebook account
• Student-Centered Technology Materials
• Computers w/internet access
• Computer charger
• Paper
• Pencils
• Facebook Account
Utilize Technology, Media, and
Materials
• Preview & Prepare Materials
• One computer should available for per student (located in school's lab)
• Internet access for all students.
• Extra notebook (if needed).
• Make sure all computers are operating properly with internet access
• Make sure projector is operating properly
• Make sure screen is functioning properly
• Log on to Facebook account.
• Prepare the Environment
• Desks are arranged for workshop learning environment (no rearranging necessary).
• Computers are set up around the classroom (no rearranging necessary)
• The Classroom should be clean and the lights are good
• Prepare the Learners
• Introduce the lesson to the students telling them they will learn the importance of using
Facebook as a group study after school and how can they reach the teacher easily if there
any enquiry or question about the class.
• Explain and inform the students the importance of Facebook policy.
• Explain how can they use the group study page properly.
• Explain the importance of the relationship between students and teacher, and what
Facebook can do about that.
Require Learner Participation
• The lesson will be held in the computer lab of the school. Each
student will get a separate computer around the class to
protect the privacy information on the Facebook page. After
that students will log in into their private Facebook page to
accept the request that the teacher sent to them to create a
page of group study on Facebook. The teacher should be the
admin of that group page to control the discussion. Each
student must read and know the policy of using Facebook.
They will be able to share tools, tips, resources, videos, and
much more through Facebook
Evaluate and Revise
• Assessing Learner Achievement
• At the end of this lesson, there will be a survey for learners to assess the lesson
using the following sample:
• 1. What is your reaction about this lesson?
• …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
• 2. Do you think that Facebook will be a good tool to contact your teacher after
school?
• ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
• 3. What is the effect of using Facebook in schools?
• …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
• 4. What are the benefits of Facebook for students?
• …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
• 5. Are there any disadvantages of using Facebook in schools?
• ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
• 6. Do you have any suggestions to improve this lesson?
• ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
…………
Evaluate and Revise
Evaluating and Revising Strategies, Technology, and Media
• After explaining the lesson, the teachers will determine if
Facebook can provide a motivating learning environment and
be a tool to improve students’ skills by asking them questions.
The teacher will walk around and ask learners these questions
while they are using and sharing the information on Facebook.
• Also teacher can direct students if they need any help and give
them the direction again if needed.

Assure lesson plan dr. hanter

  • 1. ASSURE Lesson Plan Using Facebook in School By:AwnAlqarni
  • 2. Analyze Learners General Characteristics • • I would like to work with K12 class at Al Riyadh High School in the capital of Saudi Arabia. It is comprised of 25 students, and all of them are male only. The students range in age from 17 years to 20 years. Student diversity consists of four-Egyptian students white/non-Hispanic, and the rest of students are Saudis. Al Riyadh High School is located in the middle of Al- Riyadh city, and this school is fifteen years old. Most students in this school come from the middle to upper middle class families, who live around the school. All members are Muslim students.
  • 3. Entry Competencies • Technological: Expect students to have general knowledge of what a computer and its peripherals are comprised of (monitor, CPU, printer, keyboard, and mouse), be able to navigate the internet, basic keyboarding skills, and some experience with computer usage either through creating documents, presentations, social networking or gaming.
  • 4. State Standards and Objectives • Technology Standards • According to ISTE Standards Coaches (2011), “Model and promote diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness by using digital age communication and collaboration tools to interact locally and globally with students, peers, parents, and the larger community”. • Lesson Objectives • Students will use Facebook in this lesson to create a page of group study. They can use it after school to keep in touch with their teacher after school, and get more information and knowledge about the class under an observation from their teacher.
  • 5. Select Strategies • Teacher-Centered Materials • Computer • Computer charger • Projector • Screen • Speakers • Facebook account • Student-Centered Technology Materials • Computers w/internet access • Computer charger • Paper • Pencils • Facebook Account
  • 6. Utilize Technology, Media, and Materials • Preview & Prepare Materials • One computer should available for per student (located in school's lab) • Internet access for all students. • Extra notebook (if needed). • Make sure all computers are operating properly with internet access • Make sure projector is operating properly • Make sure screen is functioning properly • Log on to Facebook account. • Prepare the Environment • Desks are arranged for workshop learning environment (no rearranging necessary). • Computers are set up around the classroom (no rearranging necessary) • The Classroom should be clean and the lights are good • Prepare the Learners • Introduce the lesson to the students telling them they will learn the importance of using Facebook as a group study after school and how can they reach the teacher easily if there any enquiry or question about the class. • Explain and inform the students the importance of Facebook policy. • Explain how can they use the group study page properly. • Explain the importance of the relationship between students and teacher, and what Facebook can do about that.
  • 7. Require Learner Participation • The lesson will be held in the computer lab of the school. Each student will get a separate computer around the class to protect the privacy information on the Facebook page. After that students will log in into their private Facebook page to accept the request that the teacher sent to them to create a page of group study on Facebook. The teacher should be the admin of that group page to control the discussion. Each student must read and know the policy of using Facebook. They will be able to share tools, tips, resources, videos, and much more through Facebook
  • 8. Evaluate and Revise • Assessing Learner Achievement • At the end of this lesson, there will be a survey for learners to assess the lesson using the following sample: • 1. What is your reaction about this lesson? • ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… • 2. Do you think that Facebook will be a good tool to contact your teacher after school? • …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… • 3. What is the effect of using Facebook in schools? • ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… • 4. What are the benefits of Facebook for students? • ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… • 5. Are there any disadvantages of using Facebook in schools? • …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… • 6. Do you have any suggestions to improve this lesson? • …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… …………
