School Technology Survey

Survey

   1. School name:Uintah Elementary

   2. Name of Principal:Chelsea Malouf

   3. Names of teachers talked with whose classrooms you visited and grade level:Ms.
      Gannuscio, 5th grade

   4. Ask the teachers/principal their perspective on current and future use of technology
in the classroom: The teachers at Uintah Elementary School believe in integrating
technology and education. They have a program there called Enriched Technology
Classrooms where they have a classroom with 2 students per computer. This was the
classroom I visited. Something that they feel needs to be worked on before technology
can be used in the classroom is more funding for the equipment.

   5. Does the school have its own website? If so who maintains the site what is the URL?
      Yes. http://uintah.slcschools.org/

   6. Do teachers at the school have class blogs? If so who has access to them? Some of
the teachers have class blogs that are accessible to students and parents, but some do not.
There are links under a few of the faculty member’s names in the faculty section of the
      website.

   7. Is there a school technology supervisor? Name? Yes. Her name is Amy Carmen.

   8. Do all the classrooms have computers in them? Explain what you find:Every
classroom has two computers in it. The younger grades tend to not use them as much,
but in the Enriched Technology Classrooms there are 2 students to a computer, which is a
      great number.

   9. Is there a computer lab/s? If so how is it used and by whom? There are two
computer labs that can be used at the teacher’s discretion.

   10. What kinds of computers are in the school – PC’s, Laptops, Mac’s etc.? Overhead
projection equipment etc.:There are PC’s, overhead projection equipment and
       smarboards in every classroom.

   11. What software programs are regularly used by teachers? Microsoft Word,
       Powerpoint, Excel.
12. Can/do teachers use the Internet in their instruction? Detail findings.Yes. In
the classroom that we were in the teacher had Googled pictures of volcanoes for the
students to look at. She also used the internet to pull up information about the different
    types of volcanoes.

13. How does a teacher get further training to use technology?

14. See if you can get a sense of the % of students who might have a computer in their
    home:N/A

15. Did you observe students using computer based technology? If so detail what
you observed: Yes. Children were googling pictures using Powerpoint and using
Microsoft Word to type out reports, they were even going online to take spelling tests.

16. Other: When I first walked into the classroom, the first thing that I noticed was that there
were a lot of computers in the classroom. For every 2 students there was a computer.
They were doing an art project at the time, so the computers were put away, however,
when they were done with their project the teacher gave them free time to work on their
homework and they were writing reports on the computer, googling pictures on the
computer and taking spelling tests on the computer. I was amazed at how well the
students were using the computers. It was altogether an amazing experience to see a
parallel of technology being used in the classroom like we had talked about in class.
