This lesson plan is for a 5th grade history class with 20 students about the branches of the US government. It will teach about the legislative, executive, and judicial branches over 5 days, with activities including discussing each branch individually and having students enact the lawmaking process. PowerPoint and online videos will be used to help explain concepts to the class.
2. The Learners

grade history class. The class has 20 students.
There are 11 girls and 9 boys. Within this class
there are 3 Hispanic, 5 African American, 4
Asians, and the rest are caucasian.
3. My Main Objective
• My main objective for this class is to teach
the students about the different branches of
government, the House of Representatives,
the Senate, and how a bill becomes a law. I
plan on doing this with at least 70% accuracy.
4. Day by Day Breakdown
• Monday- we will discuss the
Legislative branch of
government and Congress.
• Tuesday- we will discuss the
Executive branch and the
President.
• Wednesday- we will discuss
the Judicial branch and the
different levels of courts.
• Thursday- we will discuss
the process in which a bill
becomes a law and the
parts each branch plays in
this process.
• Friday- the students will be
split up into different
groups; each group
representing a branch of
govt. and they will think of
something they want to be
a law and they will go
through the process of
getting it passed.
