ASSESS YOUR FEEDBACK PRACTICES
After having studied the Seven Strategies of Assessment for Learning, think about the
extent to which each of the characteristics of effective feedback is part of your regular
classroom practice. Complete this personal inventory. Then, discuss the results.
Rating Survey statement
7 1. I communicate learning targets to students in language they can
understand, as a regular part of instruction.
1 2. I use examples and models of strong and weak work to help students
understand key elements of a quality response, product, or performance.
9 3. I offer feedback that links directly to the intended learning, pointing
out strengths and offering information to guide improvement. Students
receive this feedback during the learning process and have opportunities
to improve on each learning target before the graded event.
1 4. I design assignments so that students can self-assess, by identifying
their own strengths and areas for further study in terms of the intended
learning. The results of assignments and assessments function as
effective feedback to students.
6 5. I use assessment information to focus instruction on a day-to-day
basis.
7 6. I give students regular opportunities to track, reflect on, and share
their achievement status and improvement.
1. As an English teacher it is really important for me to communicate relevant
things in a language students are completely able to understand, it means, the mother
tongue. However, when they have understood what they have to do, I tell them in
English because they must get familiar to the language.
2. Sometimes, I show students good examples of strong and weak work in order to
help them understand and to encourage them, but I do not like it so much. I prefer to
give personal feedback to my students instead of showing them others’ works.
3. I almost always give my students personal feedback in order to make them
improve in their own learning.
4. I do not design self-assess assignments. Maybe I should consider this point,
because it can help my students to identify their own strengths and weakness.
5. As an extracurricular teacher I do not have enough time to focus instruction on a
day-to-day basis, however I do it as much as I can.

6. I give students a lot of activities in which they can realize if they are learning or
not and they are also great for me in order to carry out the formative assessment.
