A feeling of extreme gladness, delight, or

Passive joy involves tranquillity and a feeling of
contentment with things as they are.
Active joy involves a desire to share one’s feelings
with others.

of the release of dopamine and
serotonin.

Visualisation is important
because it helps to prepare
and to teach you how to
respond to a situation
before it happens. It also
helps you achieve your
goals by conditioning your
brain to see, hear, and feel
the outcome in your mind.
Science of Visualisation
• Beneficial for tension-type headache, recurrent abdominal pain in children,
and musculoskeletal pain, reduce length of hospital stay, reduced
postoperative pain, anxiety, while increasing patient satisfaction. (Delia
Chiaramonte, Brian Morrison, in Practical Management of Pain (Fifth
Edition), 2014)
• Significant reductions in depressed mood and fatigue and showed
significant gains in physical and mental health/quality of life
(https://www.mcbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5871039/)
• Guided imagery in women with breast cancer led to altered immune system
functioning, including increased natural killer cells and lymphokine
activated killer cells (10.1016/j.breast.2008.09.002)
