This document discusses key considerations for designing games with a LiveOps strategy focused on long-term engagement and retention of players. Games designed for LiveOps must have evolving progression systems that reward player investment over time to keep them engaged. They also need tools to frequently modify and update content without client patches. Specifically, the document advocates for modular, configurable content and systems that can trigger live events and target experiences differently for new and veteran players. This allows the game to change over the player's lifespan and community experiences to remain fresh.
PlayFab enables LiveOps through features that support the key building blocks of LiveOps - data, content, and community. PlayFab allows developers to [1] capture game events and user data in real-time, analyze results from experiments, and trigger actions based on player behavior. - The developers sought to capture what made the mod so engaging and expand on its team-based multiplayer gameplay with distinct character classes. This formed the basis for the eventual standalone Team Fortress 2.

2. 1. Media Ownership
• The Stanley Parable was developed and published by a
team called ‘Galactic Café’
• Outside of the voice actors work, the game was all
David Wredens work.
• Wreden also got some job offers from larger
developers which he turned down, as at the time it
was "not the kind of scene" he wanted to work in.
• Instead, Wreden started to gather other independent
programmers to work out an improved version of The
Stanley Parable and leading towards a completely new
title in the future.
3. Synergy & Cross Media Convergence
• The Stanley parable were able to collaborate
with Valve as a way to add a ‘Stanley parable
Announcer Pack’ to Dota 2, allowing for
players of Dota 2 to have the narrator from
Stanley Parable commentate over the games
they play
• The Stanley Parable was originally made to be
a mod for another game called ‘Half Life 2’
4. • Cross Media Convergence:
• YouTube stars were used to promote games via web
2.0
• Throughout certain parts of the Stanley Parable, you
are able to visit settings for different games such as
Portal and Minecraft. These sections were included
after getting approval from their creators Valve corp
and Markus Persson, respectively
• The Lack of money and power that the developers
have mean that they aren't able to use cross media
convergence as well as Nintendo and Microsoft
5. New Media Technology
• The producers made a huge use out of the
web 2.0 for promotion of the game via
forums, critics and YouTube stars
• They also released a High-Definition remake
of the game shortly after the release of the
mod due to the success of the original mod
• DLC and the game is downloadable, saves
money on production/publication of game.
6. The Spread of Technology
• The Stanley Parable is only available to buy on
PC via the use of game sites such as Steam,
G2A and other sites.
7. How the game attracted its
audience
• Due to the Stanley parable originally being a
modification of another game called half life 2. This
allowed for the fan base of half life 2 to be able to
download and play ‘the Stanley parable’ free of
charge. The game used the huge fan base of half life
2 in order for the mod to become more popular
• Within two weeks of its release, the modification
was downloaded more than 90,000 times. Responses
of most players were positive, and Wreden became
"an overnight internet sensation among hard-core
gamers."
