Game Review: Dead Island (Riptide)
The role-playing horror game was a product of Techland. Developed in 2011,
Dead Island was followed by its sequel Deal Island (Riptide) in 2012. In April 26th
the game had her global released for PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows. The game was
released under the label “Deep Silver” by “Koch Media”.
The story of Dead Island (Riptide) begins where “Dead Island” ended. Four
survivors escaped from the Prison Island and taken into protection by a VIP “Frank
Serpo” and Colonel Sam. John Morgan is another survivor who has his own
research on other characters of the game. After facing several controversies and
hurdles they reached the Island of Palanai where another character Harlow tells
them about the zombie infection which they think is spreading because of the use
of chemical weapons. The survivors of Dead Island (Riptide) somehow managed
to reach Henderson city to seek some help and find Dr. Kessler a researcher who
told the survivors to clean the tunnel from chemical weapons. Unaware of the
future the survivors trusted Dr. Kessler meanwhile Harlow tried to experiment on
an infected survivor. However the survivors managed to get out from the trouble
by sailing to another island.
The game is full of twists and unpredictable turns. This is a horror game based on
zombies with action fights. The sceneries of the game involve island, water, boats
and obviously zombies! The targets and missions involve combats with zombies.
The game has parts where the tension is high and fights are really tough. As Dead
Island ( Riptide) starts it seems that it is difficult to understand the working and
playing of the game but as the player plays the game he/she will get used to these
difficulties.
The game could be interesting for those who like the first part Dead Island. But
still it contains some flaws along with the positivity. The game plot is a flavor-less
piece of fiction with very less brain involved in it. Characters are old and the soul
of this game has changed to torture rather than horror. The story doesn’t have
any reality and feels so much like a weak drama plot. The game seems lazy and
lacks in energy. It seems like that the characters (survivors, researcher, army and
civilians) are neither planned not they wanted to organize themselves. We expect
such games to be active, energetic and well planned with a little tint of humor to
release the stress.
If a player ignores the weaknesses of Dead Island (Riptide) then he/she will find
that mastering this game will need a lot of practice and skills. People who to play
games knows that Dead Island was development in 2011 when Zombie games
were not overplayed by games lovers. That is the reason why Dead Island
(Riptides) lacks action and activity.
The developer of this game should spice up the sequel version to push forward
the original version. Over all the making of Dead Island (Riptide) as a sequel of
Dead Island is considered as a weak attempt.
