ART ROOM EXPECTATIONS
Respect yourself. Be on time and ready to do your best. Get out all the materials you need for the
class and be ready to begin. Once you have the instruction for the day, give yourself the time and
space to create. You are expected to complete your assignments to the very best of your abilities.
You are also expected to work on only art during this class.
Respect the art room. When the teacher is giving instructions or a class demonstration, you are
expected to listen quietly and to take part in the class discussions in a respectful, learning manner.
All art supplies must be used properly and returned to their original location in the manner you found
the supplies.
Respect Riverwood. You are expected to follow the rules and policies of Riverwood ICS set down
in your handbook.

1. Cleanup: Students are responsible for taking care of equipment and supplies as well as cleaning
up after themselves. When time for cleanup is called, each student must clean his/her immediate
area and also the common areas of the room (sinks, counters, tools, etc.). Students are
expected to wipe down their table at the end of each class. Students will share responsibilities
for cleaning up the sink area, alternating tables each day.

2. Storage of Work: Students will be assigned a storage area for his/her artwork. Any artwork left
out at the end of class or the end of the semester will be thrown away. Students are held
accountable for all work assigned in and out of class.

3. Student Absence: It is the responsibility of the student to make up all work missed. It is also the
responsibility of the student to obtain from the teacher any notes, handouts, directions or other
information missed due to absence. The best place to keep up-to-date is the class blog.

4. Conduct and Detention: All students are expected to follow the code of conduct set up in the
Student Handbook. No student’s behavior shall interfere with his/her own or another student’s
effort to study art. Detentions may be assigned for reasons such as the following: not having
materials for class, disruptive behavior, tardies to class, as well as other behaviors that have a
negative effect on the learning environment in class based on the teacher’s discretion. These
detentions will be served at the convenience of the teacher within 3 days of the offense.
Detention not being served will result in disciplinary action being taken by the school office.
Repeated misconduct may result in detention or other disciplinary action, such as public
detention, contacting parent(s), parent meeting, and/or office referral.

5. Academic Integrity: Honesty and Academic Integrity are highly valued in all art courses. It is
expected that you adhere to the Riverwood High School Academic Integrity Policy (please
   review the Student Handbook).
Areas of particular importance in the visual arts classes are:
   • Using any graded material – notebooks, tests, essays, lab reports, homework, or other
graded assignments from another student, previous or current.
   • Acquiring copies of tests before the actual testing period so as to have an advantage during
       the evaluation.
   • Using notes or information from any unauthorized source, including but not limited to
information written on desks, person, pieces of paper (cheat sheets), water bottles,
backpacks, or entered into graphing calculators or other devices.
   • Looking at another student’s work during a test.
   • Any form of communication during an evaluation (passing materials, whispering, talking,
signaling, or mouthing words to other students).
   • Copying, sharing or comparing work or homework from other students without teacher
       permission or instruction.
   • Submitting another student’s work as your own—homework, essay, project, individual lab,
       etc.
   • Allowing other students to work on or complete an art project.
6. Recovery Policy: The intent of the Recovery Policy is to assist students by providing adequate
opportunities to master course objectives in order to eliminate preventable failures. The
Recovery Policy for this course is as follows: If you have a low class average and wish to
improve it, you must first have completed all class work, homework, studio assignments,
notebook and all written assignments as well as show a legitimate effort in meeting class
requirements, including attendance. It is your responsibility to contact your teacher well before
the end of the semester concerning academic assistance opportunities. The first Step after
contacting your teacher will be resubmission of studio work applying course objectives.
7. Food/Drinks: In accordance with school rules, students are not allowed to eat or drink in class
    unless given special permission.
8. Off-Limit Areas: Certain areas within the art room are off limits to students unless permission is
given. The main areas are: my desk, the area behind my desk, my computer, and file cabinets.
Also, please respect the artwork and property of others. If something doesn’t belong to you,
please don’t handle the item without the owner’s permission.
        • Student computers are for your use only with my permission.
        • Follow safety rules around specialized equipment, tools, and materials.
9. Tools, Materials, and Equipment: Supplies will be provided for each assignment. Wasteful or
inappropriate use of supplies may require you to pay for additional materials. On occasion, you
may be asked to bring items from home to enhance an assignment. Tools will be provided and
many can be checked out to the student. The student is responsible for their care and proper
use. Any items that have been checked out must be returned the following day. Students will be
expected to pay for any lost or damaged tools or equipment.
10. Dismissal: When the bell rings, students must wait for dismissal by the teacher. Students who
have not cleaned up the appropriate areas and are not seated quietly in their seats will not be
dismissed. You are to remain in your seat until you are dismissed.
THE MINIMAL EXPECTATION FOR SUCCESS IN THIS CLASS:
          1. COME TO CLASS – be prepared, on time, and ready to create.
          2. TURN IN YOUR WORK – on time, complete, demonstrating understanding of
              requirements and objectives
          3. PUT FORTH YOUR BEST EFFORT – demonstrate thinking and idea development

I have read these rules and understand what is expected of me while in the art room.
Student Signature: Date:

Feel free to express any concerns you have regarding this class – whether rules or grades.
Sometimes, students will disagree with rules that I have. Choose an appropriate time and
manner in which we can discuss any issue or situation. Schedule a time to share your
concerns, usually before or after school but not right in the middle of class.

                                                                                    28 August 2010

Art room rules

  • 1. Ms. Munson [munsond@fultonschools.org] ART ROOM EXPECTATIONS Respect yourself. Be on time and ready to do your best. Get out all the materials you need for the class and be ready to begin. Once you have the instruction for the day, give yourself the time and space to create. You are expected to complete your assignments to the very best of your abilities. You are also expected to work on only art during this class. Respect the art room. When the teacher is giving instructions or a class demonstration, you are expected to listen quietly and to take part in the class discussions in a respectful, learning manner. All art supplies must be used properly and returned to their original location in the manner you found the supplies. Respect Riverwood. You are expected to follow the rules and policies of Riverwood ICS set down in your handbook. 1. Cleanup: Students are responsible for taking care of equipment and supplies as well as cleaning up after themselves. When time for cleanup is called, each student must clean his/her immediate area and also the common areas of the room (sinks, counters, tools, etc.). Students are expected to wipe down their table at the end of each class. Students will share responsibilities for cleaning up the sink area, alternating tables each day. 2. Storage of Work: Students will be assigned a storage area for his/her artwork. Any artwork left out at the end of class or the end of the semester will be thrown away. Students are held accountable for all work assigned in and out of class. 3. Student Absence: It is the responsibility of the student to make up all work missed. It is also the responsibility of the student to obtain from the teacher any notes, handouts, directions or other information missed due to absence. The best place to keep up-to-date is the class blog. 4. Conduct and Detention: All students are expected to follow the code of conduct set up in the Student Handbook. No student’s behavior shall interfere with his/her own or another student’s effort to study art. Detentions may be assigned for reasons such as the following: not having materials for class, disruptive behavior, tardies to class, as well as other behaviors that have a negative effect on the learning environment in class based on the teacher’s discretion. These detentions will be served at the convenience of the teacher within 3 days of the offense. Detention not being served will result in disciplinary action being taken by the school office. Repeated misconduct may result in detention or other disciplinary action, such as public detention, contacting parent(s), parent meeting, and/or office referral. 5. Academic Integrity: Honesty and Academic Integrity are highly valued in all art courses.
