As you move around the campus, activity forms are provided for you to document your
observations. It is advised that you read the entire worksheet before proceeding to the school site. A
good understanding of the activities and tasks to be accomplished in the activity sheets yield better
learning results.

Office of the Principal The office of the principal is
inside the faculty room.
Library The library has several books
available. There are also other
resources such as posters and
displays. The whole room is air-
conditioned to make each
student comfortable with their
stay inside the library.
Counseling Room This room, which is also the
Guidance Counselor office, is

Canteen/ Cafeteria This common area has few tables
and chairs. Generally, the place is
clean and well ventilated. Here,
they serve snacks and lunch for
everyone in the school.
Medical Clinic The school clinic has medical
paraphernalia needed for
emergency cases. There is also a
school nurse who is assigned to
take care of the facility and do
the monitoring of the students’
health.
Audio Visual/ Media Center It is located in front of the
canteen. It is a room wherein a
gathering of large number of
people is held. It has a
audiovisual equipments and even
a piano inside. On the front part
of the room is a platform in
which could be considered a
stage in formal events or
meetings.
Reading Center Located inside the library,
reading materials such as
periodicals, books and magazines
are available.
Computer Laboratory Just beside the library, the
computer laboratory has enough
computers for the students.
Although these computers are
quite old models, its efficiency is
still the same with the new ones.
Speech Laboratory Situated on the inner campus of
the school, the speech lab is very
useful for English subjects’
speech classes. It has audiovisual
equipments and very good
cubicle set up.
Learning Resource Center It has several posters placed on
the wall which seems to be more
useful in the nursing course of
the college department. But
besides that there are also family
oriented posters and posters
about proper conduct. The center

has also has a computer and a
printer. This room is also the
office of the SSC of the college
department.
Science Laboratory Equipped with different
laboratory apparatuses. Used by
students during their biology,
chemistry and physics classes.

Comfort Room for Boys Used generally by the students

OBSERVATION GUIDE FOR THE CLASSROOM VISIT
Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the provided space.
1. Describe the community or the neighborhood that the school is found.

3. Pass by the offices. What impressions do you have of these offices?
4. Walk through the school halls, the library, the cafeteria. Look around and find out the other
facilities that the school has.

Date of Visit: August 20, 2012
NDC Tagum Foundation is a private school located along National Highway, Apokon Road, Tagum City.
The school has a college, high school and kindergarten department, all governed by different department
heads. The barangay where the school is located is generally a peaceful home for many families whose
children mostly are students of this school as well.
This second home of hundreds of students has a very wide school campus. Enough to cater all the school
activities that could possibly take place. The green surroundings are pleasant to look at. Most of the
classrooms have plants outside their premises. This brings fresh air for the learners as they spend their
vacant hours outside the class. Though some buildings are quite old, it is still sturdy enough to become
classrooms for the students. Classrooms and offices are all air-conditioned to ensure the comfort of the

students, the teachers and the school officials. The principal’s office is located inside the faculty room
because according to the principal, she wanted to create a good and closer working relationship with the
faculty members.
The halls are kept clean as well as the comfort rooms. The library in the other hand is another nice place
to stay. It has several books which are well arranged. It has many wall displays too which are informative
to the learners. Their computer laboratory has several computers which are quite old models but still are
functioning very well. Their Learning Resource Center on the other hand, has several posters inside and a
computer set as well.
Among all the facilities in the school, this place is the busiest especially around recess and lunch time –
the school canteen. The cafeteria or the school canteen is well ventilated and clean and has several
foodstuffs being sold.
In general, the school campus is a place suitable for learning. I’m pretty sure that this is a very important
factor that will help them during these years of their school lives.
OBSERVATION GUIDE FOR THE CLASSROOM VISIT
Be guided by these tasks as you do your observation. Then accomplish the matrix to record your data.
1. Look at the walls of the classroom. What are posted on the walls? What heroes, religious figures,
lessons, visual aids, announcements, do you see posted?
2. Examine how the furniture is arranged. Where is the teacher’s table located? How are the tables
and chairs/desks arranged?
3. What learning materials/ equipment are present?
4. Observe the students. How many are occupying one room?
5. Is the classroom well-lighted and well-ventilated?

1. WALL DISPLAYS Wall displays consist generally of useful quotations
to inspire the learners inside the classroom.
2. TEACHER’S TABLE The teacher’s table is located near the door of the
classroom where she could see every student
going in or out of the class.

3. LEARNER’S CHAIRS There are approximately thirty five learner’s chairs
set in eight columns by five rows. Arranged fairly
aligned, students seems to have the liberty to
make themselves comfortable on their seats.
4. BLACKBOARD There is a white board in front of the class. It in its
best condition and is frequently used in the class
discussion.
5. LEARNING MATERIALS There are no other learning materials inside the
classroom besides the learning aids used by the
teacher on their class discussions.
6. Cabinet It is where the cleaning materials are kept.
OBSERVATION REPORT ON CLASSROOM VISIT
Name of School: NDC Tagum Foundation, Inc.
School Address: Tagum City
Date of Visit: August 20, 2012
Grade seven, section Sapphire at the time of my visit has twenty eight students all in all. These students
suit themselves in this classroom as they comfortably occupy the armchairs which are indiscriminately
arranged. With this, the students still are able to move around freely. In front of these chairs is the
teacher’s table.
The walls are decorated with beautiful quotations that are inspiring to the students. There are very few
learning materials inside the classroom besides the learning aids used by the teacher during class
discussions.
The room is well lighted by many light bulbs and is cooled by air-conditioning system. The windows on
the other hand, are draped with colorful curtains.
Overall, the classroom is a pleasant area to stay and is conducive for learning.
ANALYSIS

1. How do the school campus and the classroom in particular impact on the learning of the
students going to school? What are your conclusions?
Although how much learning will take place depends ultimately on the learner, the environment,
which is the school campus and the classroom, still has a big role during the learning process.
The noisy environment will definitely disturb the classes and will disrupt the students’
concentrations. Whereas, if they stay on a quiet environment, their attention will solely be on the
discussion. Another factor that is important also is how well-lighted and well-ventilated the room
is. Even for regular people, who would like to stay in a warm/hot place and try to study? Who
would like to read if the room is dim/dark? This is just the same with the kids who are trying to
learn inside the classroom. They needed a well ventilated and well lighted classroom to facilitate
their learning.
2. How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development/ How does this
relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?
In the subjects child and adolescent development and facilitating learning, we learned that the
learning environment is the place where teaching and learning can take place in the most
effective and productive manner. Also, a physical environment that is clean, orderly, well
ventilated, well lighted, spacious that allows movement and free from unnecessary distracters is
conducive to learning.
With this, we have learned that being a teacher, we must know how to create a good learning
environment that is conducive for learning. We must know how to restructure it to the best way
it could be just to make sure that the learners will enjoy every bit of our lesson being shared to
them so that they will become productive citizens in the future.
REFLECTIONS
1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why?
It would be great for me to teach in a school like NCD Tagum Foundation, Inc. It has good
facilities, nice classrooms and co-teachers.
2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?
The learning environment does not end inside the classroom alone. It extends even to the walls
of the school. So, a clean, quiet, well ventilated and well lighted, spacious and free from harm
school campus is conducive to learning.
3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

Besides an orderly, quiet and clean classroom, a non-threatening classroom atmosphere where
students feel they are respected and accepted for who they are and what they say or do is a
conducive learning environment.
4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer to number 3?
I’ll try to remember with all my heart the lessons I have learned in facilitating learning subject
and field study course. With these, it would help me create an ideal learning environment.
5. Write your additional learning and insights here.
The teacher must know how to set the atmosphere inside the classroom. A threatening
atmosphere isn’t good for the students. They will suppress their true selves and this will only
build a wall between them and the teacher. The teacher must know how to balance being
friendly and as an image of authority inside the class.
MY PERSONAL ILLUSTRATION OF AN EFFECTIVE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT
Many have spoken about what should be an effective school environment is. But for me,
just having these two characteristics is well enough.
Firstly, the physical features must just not be tidy, clean, spacious, well ventilated and
lighted. It must be a school that brings out the inner self of the students at helps them
to achieve what they wanted to be.

And secondly, the psychological as well as the social atmosphere must be non-
threatening where they feel they are respected and accepted for who they are and for
what they say or do.
