The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. What Skills Can Young Children Develop From Daily Access to Art? • Children can learn the importance of Self Expression (p.202, ECERS-R) • Children learn fine motor skills • Children learn to think outside of the box • Children learn that art materials can be manipulated (Playdough, Clay, Glue, beads, string, ect.) • Children learn that art can be done on their time and not just when someone asks them to do it

Teacher's Role • Provide at least one hour a day in this center. • Provide a creative environment. • Offer certain art materials for kids to use, as long as children can choose the topic of the work and create what they wish. • Basic subject matter and medium are suggested by the teacher, but allowing the children to have much room for individual expression. Examples: • Putting out two colors of paint with paper. • Asking the children to make a Christmas tree and allowing them to use different methods to get a Christmas tree; painting, using markers to draw, using play dough. • Children being asked to draw pictures of their family, individual expression can be given if they can choose how to represent their family in their own way.
