Argumentative Essay On Corporal
Punishment
Writing an essay on the topic of corporal punishment is a challenging task that requires careful
consideration of various perspectives and a nuanced exploration of the subject matter. The
difficulty arises from the controversial nature of the topic, as corporal punishment involves the
use of physical force to discipline individuals, particularly in educational or parental settings.
Crafting a well-rounded argumentative essay on this subject necessitates a thorough
understanding of the historical, cultural, and psychological aspects surrounding corporal
punishment.
One must delve into extensive research to gather relevant data, statistics, and scholarly opinions
to support both sides of the argument. It's crucial to approach the topic with sensitivity,
considering the ethical implications and the potential impact on individuals subjected to corporal
punishment. Striking a balance between presenting a compelling argument and maintaining an
objective tone can be challenging, given the emotional nature of the topic.
Moreover, the writer must anticipate and address potential counterarguments, acknowledging the
complexity of the issue and demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of differing
viewpoints. Organizing the essay effectively to present a coherent and persuasive argument adds
another layer of difficulty.
In conclusion, writing an argumentative essay on corporal punishment demands a meticulous
approach, extensive research, and the ability to navigate through contentious issues with
sensitivity. It's an intricate task that requires a writer to carefully weigh the evidence and present
a well-reasoned perspective on a topic that elicits strong emotions and diverse opinions.

Essay on Jonathan Kozol The Human Cost Of An Illiterate...
Knowledge is an effective factor in which human society relies on. Throughout
history, those who were knowledgeable were well respected, honored and revered.
Author Jonathan Kozol writes his essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society, to
project the importance of knowledge and to explain that without it, one can suffer
disastrous repercussions. He highlights real life examples of how people suffer as a
result of chronic illiteracy, and his entire essay is an advocacy for knowledgeand
literacy. Other authors such as Frederick Douglass and Richard Wright would use
their personal experiences in completely different settings to highlight the power of
knowledge. Douglass, a man born into slavery, and Wright, a man living through...

Knowledge has the ability to free Douglass from his social injustice. This
realization foreshadows Douglass career in the future; as he is no longer enslaved.
As history continues and times have changed, the power of knowledge still
remains the same. Jonathan Kozol is a man that expresses the same belief as
Douglass; that knowledge is rewarding. Although the times have changed; Kozol
acknowledges the debilitating effect that comes when one is not knowledgeable.
Kozol makes this evident in his novel as he states that Not knowing the right word
for the right thing at the right time is a form of subjugation (165). According to
Kozol, knowledge determines the way society views an individual. An illiterate
person will struggle in a coerced society. Therefore, the author informs the audience
the blessing it is to have knowledge because they will be set free from being
socially enslaved. As a result, the significance of knowledge and its blessings grants
freedom against social injustice. Douglass and Wright both experience similar
reactions to their newly gained knowledge. After finding access to a library, Wright
begins to read and learn more about different perspectives and the way others think.
He eventually realizes, through his readings, that he is hurt by what he learns as is
evident in quotation But to feel that there were feelings denied me, that the very
breath of life itself was beyond my reach, that more than anything hurt, wounded me,
Video and Uses for HTML5
1 Introduction
1.1 Introduction
In todays world the amount of video that is being captured is growing exponentialy.
Over 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. (http:/
/www.youtube.com/yt/press/en GB/statistics.html)
This most of this video is being captured through the over 1.5 billion smart phones in
circulation across the world. This video is then edited and uploaded to a video
hosting site aka youtube or vimo or shared through a variaty of social media channels.
This rate of creation and the need to have tools to curate and modify this ever
expanding sea of video will create the need for more versitile video ediditors.
One of the biggest developments in communications and technology in recent months
is the rise of HTML5. This updated markup language has serious potential to
destabilize a variety of different computing environments as we know them, and yield
impact to the field that can only be barely conceived of today.
One of the biggest impacts HTML5 is likely to generate in 2013 is in the field of
mobile platforms. Already, HTML5 is looking to destabilize the mobile
environment, with Web based apps that can be run via browser potentially looking
to encroach on app stores in their current form. More and more mobile applications
will come available using HTML5, and that s going to mean a huge difference in the
way these mobile applications are developed.
What s more, HTML5 is looking to change the way apps are developed. There will

Organic Molecules Lab Report
Abstract
Atoms are the basic units of matter and all life is based on them. Life on earth is
based on the element carbon. It is a highly versatile atom able to form four
covalent bonds with itself or other atoms such as hydrogen and water. Atoms
combine to form molecules and those that are carbon based are referred to as
organic molecules. Organic molecules occur in four different types in living cells;
carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. They are also known as
hydrocarbons due to the presence of both hydrogen and carbon. Carbohydrates are
made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in the ratio 1:2:1. They are important
sources of energy and are classified in three main groups; monosaccharides,
disaccharides and polysaccharides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are all polymers made during dehydration synthesis reactions from
monomers. These reactions result in the loss of water forming strong covalent
bonds. They are referred to as endergonic reactions since they require an input of
energy. Hydrolytic reactions are the opposite as they break polymers into single
unit monomers using water and in the process releasing energy thus referred to as
exergonic reactions (Gorrod, 1985). The monomer form of carbohydrates is a
monosaccharide e.g. glucose (used for energy in cells), fructose and ribose. When
two monosaccharides undergo a dehydration synthesis reaction they form a
disaccharide e.g. sucrose, which is a combination of glucose and fructose. Sucrose
is used for transport in plants. Polysaccharides consist of three or more covalently
bonded monosaccharides. Starch and glycogen are good examples and are both
used in energy storage in plants and animals respectively. Monomers of lipids are
fatty acids and glycerol while amino acids are monomers of proteins. Amino acids
mainly function to regulate different cell functions as well as catalyze various cell
reactions. Nucleotides are the monomers of nucleic acids and they function in storing
the genetic information of a cell (DNA) and synthesis of proteins (RNA). All these
monomers undergo dehydration synthesis reactions to form their corresponding
polymers and are used in
Bacteria As An Intermediate ( Jia Et Al. Essay
These strains of bacteria have the capacity to transform sugars to acetic acid directly
without creating ethanol as an intermediate (Jia et al., 2007).
The overall chemical reaction conducted by these bacteria may be represented as:
C6H12O6 в†’ 3CH3COOH. According to Jia et al., 2007 these acetogenic bacteria
synthesize acetic acid from single carbon mixtures, including methanol, carbon
monoxide, or a blend of carbon dioxide and hydrogen: 2 CO2 + 4 H2 в†’ CH3COOH
+ 2 H2O. It is also described in the figure below. Figure 2: Schematic outline of
Vinegar Production (Wood, 1998)
The capacity of Clostridium to directly degrade complex sugars into simpler ones to
produce energy, or to synthesize acetic acid from less costly inputs, suggests that
these bacteria could produce acetic acid more efficiently than ethanol oxidizers like
Acetobacter (Jia et al., 2007). Despite this fact, Clostridium bacteria are more
susceptible to acid than Acetobacter (Jia et al., 2007). Even the most acid tolerant
Clostridium strains can produce vinegar in concentrations of only a few per cent,
compared to Acetobacter strains that can produce vinegar in concentrations up to
20%. At present, it remains more cost effective to produce vinegar using Acetobacter,
rather than using Clostridium and concentrating it. As a result, although acetogenic
bacteria have been known since 1940, their industrial use is confined to a few niche
applications (Jia et al., 2007).
Though the production of acetic acid is
The Media Of Indigenous Australians
Part A Media Analysis
There is a populace of 18 million in Australia with Indigenous Australians making up
roughly one percent of the Australian population. Due to this, the closest that a non
Indigenous Australians will come to have contact with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait
Islander person is through representation in the Australian media. Most media stories
are viewed as one sided or racist with even the Prime Minster Tony Abbott making
comments that it is a lifestyle choice for the Indigenous peoples to live the way that
they do in small communities consisting of up to 8 people. These statements that he
had made is seen as racist, leaving him open to criticism by members if his own
party, friends and his opponents. The 2 articles ... Show more content on

This article gives the reader an inequitable view of Indigenous Australians, defending
Tony Abbot s point of view and the audience is encouraged to agree with mainstream
media in regards to whether or not Tony Abbott is racist. Article B from the Koori
Mail condemns Tony Abbott s viewpoint as not only racist but he is insulting the very
culture that he is representing. Article B states that Tony Abbott does not understand
Indigenous culture and how important land is to them Connection to country is
everything to Aboriginal people defines Aboriginal people and sustains us in a
cultural and spiritual sense and can play a vital role in building economic
independence, self determination and healing (Greg Cromelin, Article B). With
Article B the audience is encouraged to get angry at Tony Abbott s comments and
make him out to be racist.
Misrepresentation of Indigenous Australians in the media, as seen in the Courier
Mail (Article A) and the Koori Mail (Article B), shows a different side of Tony
Abbott s comments. Each with their own biases and by comparing the two articles it
shows that good representations in the media still have a long way to go.

In this essay I will be discussing how the Australian media affects Indigenous
Australians through negative and positive news reports, how journalists

The Disappearing Male It Makes Some Startling Claims
In the 2008 film documentary entitled The Disappearing Male it makes some startling
claims with regards to the declining male population and associated reported health
defects. The films concentrates on the reasoning behind these claims and why so
little attention has been paid to it.
While the film presents imperative data it does not delve enough into the emotional
hardship that women feel as a result of the social perception of her role as a mother.
In the following paragraphs I seek to analyze how our society s immense
expectations create these feelings. Along with this I intend to look at the differences
in perception of the infertility because of the respective gender roles. As early as the
mid to late 1800 s research has been conducted to scrutinize the differences between
men and women. Darwin was at the forefront with his findings in the On the Origin of
Species. It was in this work that researchers and the public based their assumptions
on the biological differences between men and women, which as a result became the
basis of a rather one sided debate working against the social advancement of women:
writers argued that women s efforts to enter the public seek employment, to vote, to
enter misguided because they placed women s social and political aspirations over
the purposes for which their bodies had been designed (Kimmel 23). Because of
hindsight today we understand that difference between men and women is more
complex and gender cannot

Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United Stated of America, was born
on March 15, 1767 and died on June 8, 1845 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jackson s
parents Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson were Presyberitains, Scots Irish
settlers whom in 1765 emigrated from Ireland. Andrew s birthplace is deduced to
have been at one of his uncles houses in the Waxhaw s area between North Carolina
and South Carolina, his exact whereabouts is unknown. Jackson s mother emigrated
across the Appalachian Mountains after burying her husband. Jackson s father died
three weeks before he was born in a logging accident. His mother, Elizabeth

Lewis unreasonable jealousy and completely departed from him. She then moved

current state to some desired future state. Managing organizational change is the
process of planning and implementing change in organizations in such a way as to

maximizing the effectiveness of the change effort. This paper will present a case

That general manager was typically left alone to operate his or her unit autonomously.
Corporate headquarters set annual growth goals for the units and measured their
profit and loss. As long as the units performed according to those goals, the managers

acquisitions were determined by corporate executives in the States and communicated
to these country managers. MB s CEO frequently said that he liked this approach to

To What Extent Was Mussolini s Foreign Policy a Failure...
How far do you agree that Mussolini s foreign policy in the years 1933 41 was a
complete failure?
I want to make Italy great, respected and feared said Mussolini in 1925. Mussolini s
foreign policy included a number of positive and negative factors which all
contributed to the rise, and the ultimately to the downfall, of both Mussolini and the
Italian empire. Mussolini was intent on revising the conditions of the Treaty of
Versailles and was very keen to show off Italys power. He felt that Italy had been
hard done by at the end of world war one and sought to claim what he felt Italy
deserved. Mussolini s foreign policy clearly reflected his ambition to reinstate the
Italian empire.

Mussolini believed that forming an alliance with Britain and France would persuade
them to hand over the Mediterranean to Italy:
It is destined that the Mediterranean should become ours, that Rome should be the
directing city of civilisations in the whole of Western Europe.
However, despite the hype it causes back home, the truth was the four power Pact
was pointless. As a result Mussolini s secret attempt to create an empire crumble.
In order for Mussolini to create an empire he needed Germany to remain weak, but
once Hitler came to power, Germany grew much too fast for Mussolini. When the
pair met in 1934 Mussolini realised that Hitler wasn t going to let Mussolini take
over. Hitler s eagerness to expand was now apparent despite breaking the terms of
the Treaty of Versailles. In April 1935, Britain, France and Italy, the wartime allies,
attended the Stresa conference to discuss measures against Hitler, after he broke the
terms of the Treaty. They all agreed to band together and prevent further expansion
attempts by Hitler, yet the agreement was never signed. But like Germany, Mussolini
was keen on expanding the Italian empire and in October 1935 Mussolini invaded
Abyssinia.
The invasion of Abyssinia was Mussolini s revenge. He was determined to take
revenge for the humiliating defeat at Adowa in 1896. The war was fought on a large
scale despite the fact in reality it was a reasonably small scale war. As a

Of Male Characters In Much Ado About Nothing, Othello,
And...
As a playwright, William Shakespeare has formed male characters to be able to
justify radical acts of violence because they are specifically male. These behaviors
are often then reinforced by other characters by putting the blame of the male s
actions on another. Female characters in particular are a juxtaposition of the male
role of being reckless, by saying essentially that they are unable to do such things
because they are not men. Examples of these instances are in the plays Much Ado
About Nothing, Othello, and Macbeth.
A parallel scene to this is in Othello. Othello kills Desdemona because he believes
that she was unfaithful to him in scene five. Initially Othello was going to be
executed because it was unknown that he thought Desdemona was disloyal and it was
thought that Othello killed out of hatred. Lodovico talks to Othello, and learns that
Iago had tricked Othello into this. Lodovico does give Othello the consequence of
imprisonment, but this shows that he does not believe that Othello should suffer the
full repercussions of what he has done because he was tricked, and thought that
Desdemona was unfaithful. Even if one is deceived to believe such a thing had
happen, it does not justify killing another. With Lodovico s response, it is verified
that he believes that a natural reaction would be to do so.
The two women were faced with death because of infidelity. The reasoning behind
both actions taken by the male characters were because it is out of honor.
Carmen Composed by Georges Bizet Essay
Carmen Composed by Georges Bizet
Georges Bizet (1838 1875) composed the opera Carmen, it opened on March 3,
1875 at the Opera Comique in Paris. It was not a success, initially. Then again,
Carmen would soon become the most popular opera of all time. The entire work
however, was disapproved of for its harsh libretto, and the music was criticized. The
reception of Carmen left Bizet acutely depressed and on June 3, 1875 he suffered
from two heart attacks and died.
Carmen opens with a Prelude in ternary form (ABACA) in which it opens the stage
action with a faint motif. Act I starts off in a square in Seville which contains a

The vitality of Carmen herself is remarkable, the music involves the use of the
harmonic, rhythmic instrumental measures of Spanish dance music. Also the death

She sings the Habanera, which is a mixture of sensual music, an oral warning to all.
Beware of me if I give you my heart and she sings about the fickleness of love. Don
Jose is very uninterested in Carmen s song. Carmen becomes quite fascinated and
throws a flower at Jose. Carmen then leaves to go into the cigarette factory. Jose
decides to pick up the flower and Micaela returns with money and a letter from his
mother. The letter urges that Jose marry Micaela. In this scene between Don Jose
and Micaela there is an interruption in the mood and music. Here a chromatic
downward scale in the music starts and where Jose starts singing of an evil spirit
which is we assume represents Carmen. Micaela leaves Jose and there is a sudden
accident at the cigarette factory. Zuniga sends Jose to oversee what had happened.
Jose comes out with Carmen, she apparently she had attacked and ended up stabbing
another girl. Zuniga questions her but Carmen mocks him with ridiculous humming.
Carmen is revealed to be violent and mocking. Zuniga orders Jose to tie Carmen s
hands for she is to be arrested. Carmen now knows that Jose is in love with her and
she persuades him to untie her. As

Women in the Mixed Economy of Welfare Essay
The mixed economy of welfare has heavily impacted the life of women in Aotearoa
New Zealand from the 1800s to the 21st century. The role of women has radically
changed as New Zealand has gone through political and cultural reform. The state,
the voluntary sector and the marketplace has had to accommodate for new needs of
women and has given, in some cases, a better chance for equality between men and
women. Significant changes in policy have been caused due to women gaining
monetary independence through the workforce, status within a marriage and
recognition as a mother. The policies related to these changes were the Domestic

As many women move from dependency on either a male breadwinner or the
state. For some women participation in the market has beneficial however because
of discrimination, inequity and inequality the labour force is oppressive. As
previously mentioned from the 1800s to the 1950s the state viewed women only
as a wife or mother, therefore throughout this period women had were not
participating in the paid workforce at the same level as men (Mclennan et al,
2010). By the 1980s participation of women in the workforce had radically risen
as women were seeking the ability to be able to choose what they do with their
lives to be homemakers full time, to have a full time paid job, or to be part time in
the workforce and part time at home (Office of the Minister of Women s Affairs,
1985, p.4). The market met the needs of these women by providing opportunities for
women to either work full time or part time, earn an independent income all with
textbook equality with their male counterparts (Scott, 2003). The market through
strongly encouraging women to work did meet the needs of some New Zealand
women but solo mothers who were required to care full time for infant children at
home were not receiving any income and therefore were excluded (Scott, 2003)
The relationship between women and the voluntary sector within Aotearoa New

To what extent does Juan Rulfo criticise modern Catholicism in Pedro Paramo?
Throughout the novel, Pedro Paramo, the author Juan Rulfo uses imagery, conflict,
foreshadowing and juxtaposition to comment on the corruption of organized religion
in the world, particularly the Catholic Church. The small village where the novel is
set, has become a prison for the souls who remain and the local Priest abuses his
position of authority to decide who will be blessed and be released. The author

Homeschool Is Not School At Home
Homeschool First time I heard about homeschooling, I had tons of question about it. I
was wondering. What are some requirement that parents have go through to be able to
teach their children? Why parents choose homeschool rather then let s their children
go to compound school, and how they manage their schedule? What are some
approach that parents use to teach? However, after question myself; the image of
homeschoolinghave refresh on my childhood s school. During my childhood, my
family used to do homeschool. My dad provide chalks, blackboard, and textbooks.
My uncle and my brother were teachers. They taught my sibling and me math,
reading and writing. Sometime, my dad taught us English. Some people define that
homeschool is not school at home and some people say that it is a school at home.
Anyway, my definition of homeschool is school that educate with everything that we
learn from, and from the real life that have the parents as teachers and partners that
learn a long. Homeschool started in the 1960s and 1970s when some parents didn t
like publish school system. In the mid 1980s, homeschool had been well and had
increased from 150000 to 200000 children. In the mid 1990s, the number of children
had risen from 500000 to 600000, (Linsenbach 3). Up to today, Homeschool have

Detroit Pistons Research Papers
The NBA season is well under way and there is one team who is surprising
everyone within the fantasy basketball world. The Detroit Pistons players have got
off to an extravagant start and are quickly becoming more relevant each game that
they play in. Pistons star center Andre Drummond is off to a record start and
newcomer Marcus Morris may just be what us fantasy fans were looking for in a
great waiver wire pickup. I knew a few of the Pistons players could be great additions
to my fantasy roster, but I never believed that there would be a core four group of
players who would rock our world!
So, here s a look at this foursome of athletes who are winning our fantasy hearts in
the Motor City:

Marcus Morris, Small Forward
Morris has quickly fit right into his new home in Detroit and solidified his role on
this Pistons team. In 2015, he has averaged 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists
per contest. Morris is second on the team in total minutes at 38.3 per contest, so he

stress created from children. Luckily jobs are in place so to help the average
citizen with their everyday child needs. Some are big and some are small, but all are

Analysis Of The Cognitive Dissonance Theory
The cognitive dissonance theory specifies that inconsistencies in an individual s
thoughts and actions lead to mental tension, dissonance, and cause us to take actions
to reduce this dissonance. Actions include either changing the way you think about
something or the way you action. The amount of dissonance can vary depending on
justification; an unjustifiable causes more dissonance in comparison to acting with a
good enough reason, depends how the individual s morals. In Festinger and
Carlsmith s study, individuals were either given $1 or $20 to state opinions that
weren t consistent with there own. Individuals who were paid $1 had less
justification for the inconsistency which lead to higher levels of dissonance. As a
result, they were more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the being of an experiment, but the text says that before the first task the experiment
only mentions the duration of the experiment and mentions the possibility of being
interviewed afterwards because of the amount of time. Also, the excessive actions,
moving spools and turning pegs for an hour, seems unethical because it could result in
future soreness and fatigue. Furthermore, the fact that the actions weren t necessarily
what they experimenter was interested in. I m sure there are other experiences that
would be perceived as boring without the possibility of future consequences, e.g.,
watching barn yard animals walk around for an hour. Something worth mentioning is
the amount of deception needed for this experiment. I understand that the
experimenter and the confederate debriefed after the experiment, but it almost
seemed excessive. They lied about the experiment, the interview, and the payment.
Such high amounts of deception can result in mental fatigue or the participant having
overall negative feelings towards the experiment because they were constantly being

San Francisco Is A Major City Of California And The
United...
San francisco is a major city of California and the United States as a whole. A city
with this much power generally sets the score for other counties to follow. When
San francisco undermines justice with institutional biases, they set a dangerous
example for others to follow. While San Francisco has shown great strides to
improve itself internally and externally, there are still major issues that need to be
addressed, specifically in their incarceration system. San Francisco has created a
system where minorities are more susceptible to being imprisoned due to the city s
precarious handling of funds.
The San Francisco prison system hosted 1,556 citizens in the year 2013.[1] During
that exact year, 56% of those citizens incarcerated were of African Americandescent,
in a city where African Americans make up a mere 6% of the total population.[1,2]
Compare that to the city s majority race, caucasians, who make up 41.6% of the city
as a whole and accounted for only 22% percent of all prisoners.[1,2] Looking at these
statistics it could be assumed that racism is playing a role in this, however there is one
key factor that is so often lost when issues of race flare up. This factor is of course,
money.
San francisco has been the host of recent major technological booms which have
brought increased revenue into the city, but who s pockets is this money falling into?
People often claim that police and government officials target minorities, and while
there is truth to this, would
An Unfolding of William Blake s quot; the Chimney...
An Unfolding of William Blake s The Chimney Sweeper.
William Blake s poem The Chimney Sweeper gives us a look into the unfortunate
lives of 18th century London boys whose primary job was to clear chimneys of the
soot that accumulated on its interior; boys that were named climbing boys or chimney
sweepers. Blake, a professional engraver, wrote this poem (aabb rhyme), in the voice
of a young boy, an uneducated chimney sweeper. This speaker is obviously a
persona, a fictitious character created by Blake, as it is apparent that he wasn t a
child or a chimney sweeper at the time he wrote this poem.
The Chimney Sweeper is divided in six stanzas; the first stanza of this narrative poem
starts off with the young chimney sweeper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The voice of the story, the young boy, in the seventh verse showed compassion for
the new climbing boy and by doing this he made visible to us that the real child in
him had not died, that although he had to work in conditions that were not suitable
for a boy his age, he still kept his humanity.
In the poem s next 2 stanzas the narrator speaks about a dream that Tom Dacre had
the same day his youth was taken from him. He had dreamt that sweepers whom he
knew where all of them locked up in coffins of black. The black color of these
coffins means, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, seriously bad or
unfortunate, associated with severely bad conditions or misfortune. The coffins,
which are a container in which a dead body is placed for a burial (OED), represent
all of them being trapped in this miserable black world where, ironically, children
worked to make money for adults. The entire dream is influenced by Tom s fear of
being trapped in this hell for all his life. Later, in the fifth stanza an Angel appeared
in Tom s dream that opened up the
coffins and set them free of their misfortune. This angel that freed them can be
considered as an omen, a sign that shows how something, good or bad, will happen
in the future. Tom ran down a flat expanse of land with the sweepers where they had
fun and washed themselves up. The words bright and shine Blake used in verses

Dream Analysis
DREAM ANALYSIS
This reflective essay illustrates Freud s theory of dream analysis. It will begin with
a brief overview of Freudian dream theory and will go on to describe the various
components of personality structure and the unconscious from a psychodynamic
perspective. This essay will analyse one of my personal dreams using Freud s dream
analysis theory and conclude with a critical reflection on the application of his theory
as it relates to my dream.
When Freud famously referred to dreams as being the royal road to the unconscious ,
he meant that dreams were a way in which to access the unconscious mind. Dream
analysis in psychoanalysis is the process used to explore the role dreams play in the
unconscious (Corey, 2005). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The latent content is the underlying, hidden part of the dream that holds the true
meaning of the unconscious desires (Solms, 2000). The process by which the latent
content is transformed into the disguised manifest content is what Freud referred to
as the dream work (Sharpe, 1988). The dream work can disguise the latent views
through the following four mechanisms: condensation (the condensing of multiple
thoughts into one), displacement (replaces a latent element by a concealed trivial
reference to it e.g. your mother is represented as a cat), symbolism (which transforms
thoughts into visual elements) followed by a process of secondary revision in which
the dreaming mind takes all these distorted elements and organises them into a more
comprehensible format (Schredl, 2008)
In order to analyse my dream through Freudian interpretation I will begin by
discussing the manifest content. I will attempt to break up the story in the dream
and look at the individual items and events. In my dream I am walking out of a car
park onto a street with many tall buildings, heading towards my counselling
practice class. I am flustered as I have rushed to get to my class on time. As I am
walking, I look down and see that I am wearing my husbands work boots. They have
a lot of mud on them. I suddenly begin to feel how large and heavy they are on me. I
stop walking as I suddenly feel a big a rush of
X-Men Patriarchal Analysis
In 2016, the film X Men: Apocalypse directed by Bryan Singer was released
worldwide. The X Men universe is, governed by male rules and in which no woman
could ever hope to ascend to the top (Kaklamanidou 72). There are many
controversial and heated arguments regarding the previous X men films being
patriarchal. Despite the fact that the savior in the film X Men: Apocalypse is a female
character, there are many instances in which a patriarchal society is displayed.
Males are shown to dominate the female characters within the X Men universe
throughout the film, for instance, the X Men universe is shown as the world
which is only ruled by males, females and their powers are controlled and guided by
males, lastly the heroism of females in the X Men universe is always concealed as
male characters receive more screen time as well as all the credit.
To begin with, the X Men: Apocalypse portrays a society in which males solely
rule. The movie begins in 3600 BCE with a sole ruler known as the Apocalypse. He
solely rules the earth with his four horsemen. There are no queens, nor princesses
that are identified within the film to claim the throne. Therefore it can be witnessed
that the idea of male dominance and patriarchy is portrayed to the audience since the
starting of the movie. Furthermore, Kaklamanidou in her article argues that the
previous X men movies are, narrated by a male point of view (Kaklamanidou 63).
This is also evident through X Men: Apocalypse because the

Persuasive Essay On Why Should Socrates Die Crito
Crito gives many seemingly valid reasons for socrates to escape. Socrates on the
other hand does not believe that crito s reasons for him to escape are really any
valid. One of the first reasons critos talks about for as to why socrates should escape
jail is friendship. Should Socrates die crito would not only lose such and important
friend, but the people of athens would judge critoas someone who values money over
friendship. In ancient athens is seems to be the norm that if you are going to be
killed by the courts and you have a rich enough friend, you can escape if they were
to bribe the guards to look the other way. In Socratess case he has not only his friend

The Popularity Of The Fast Food Industry
While the idea of eating outside of the home has been around for a considerable
length of time, the fast food industry as we probably am aware it didn t get its begin
until the post WWII American financial blast. Americans started to spend
increasingly and purchase more as the economy blasted and a society of consumerism
blossomed. As an aftereffect of this new yearning to have everything, combined with
the steps made by ladies while the men were away, both individuals from the family
unit started to work outside the home. Eating out, which had beforehand been viewed
as an extravagance, turned into a typical event and after that a need. Laborers, and
working families, required snappy administration and modest nourishment for both
lunch and supper. This need is the thing that drove the amazing accomplishment of
the early fast foodgoliaths, which took into account the family on the go. As the fast
foodindustry started booming, they were the main source of part time job for
teenagers. In late 1970 s, a staggering one out of eight US citizens were employed
by McDonalds. In the mid 1970s as the nourishment business extended it turned out
to be more aggressive setting off the Burger Wars of the 80s and 90s. Toward the
start of the 21st century the business sector experienced another seismic movement as
espresso chains and quick causal eateries rose as genuine contenders to bigger fast
food chains. Brands like Starbucks, Chipotle, and Panera were introduced into the
industry.

Essay Military Bearing
In the United States NAVY, military bearing is the root in which every service
member practices in order to carry out good discipline and ethics throughout ones
military careers. The Eleven General Orders of a Sentry, The Articles of the
UCMJ, as well as our own Sailors Creed illustrates how a military service member
should conduct himself or herself on a daily basis, on and off duty. Dependability
is a major aspect of military bearing. Without dependability, one can neither perform
properly in the workspace nor be depended upon by their coworkers, or chain of
command to carry out their military duties adequately. A military member is required
to be punctual, and reliable. Lack of this in a service member not only hinders the

Respecting senior officers is imperative in order to maintain good military order up
and down the chain of command. Punctuality is a key aspect of ones NAVY career.
Tardiness can affect the mission of the command. In such an event as General
Quarte! rs, one can not afford to be late in carrying out their assigned tasks, for the
repercussions can be life threatening to ones fellow shipmates, as well as to the
integrity of the ship. Being late to watch can affect the quality of work being done
in the work environment. Quarters is a vital necessity within our NAVY where
ones chain of command can brief all hands on new information concerning either
the workspaces or ones specific job. Watch standing is every sailor s duty. Without
a proper and thorough turnover it hinders the effectiveness of the watch station.
Missing information during turnover can result in wasted man hours, equipment
damage, or can compromise the security of the command in which one works.
Physical readiness standards are another element of military bearing. Physical
readiness standards or better known as PRT s are held every six months for NAVY
personnel. The PRT is a test in which each member of the NAVY must perform and
pass within certain standards in order to maintain peek performance in his or her
military careers. Such aspects of the PRT are based upon sit up, sit and reach, push

Quotes In The Invisible Man
Invisible man by Ralph Ellison is told in the first person by an unnamed African
American man who considers himself invisible to society. The comic book is a
representation of the Invisible man s life. The certain event in the comic is when the
protagonist gets injured at his work and is taken to the factory s hospital. Three
strange white doctors attempt to help the protagonist, but turn out to be lunatics and
proceed to experiment on him. The doctors put the protagonist through electroshock
therapy to the point where he is no longer afraid of Dr. Bledsoe, who is the president
of the protagonist s college that he attends. This whole event occurs because the
protagonist is black and the doctors would not condone doing experiments on their
own kind, white people. Firstly, the protagonist explains why he is invisible. He says
that it is not a physical flaw of his own, but a mistake of the inner eye of others.
There is something flawed in the way they see the world outside themselves. The
protagonist also states that there are some advantages to remaining invisible,
although sometimes he doubts if he, himself, really exists. You weren t being smart,

An Ant Army Short Story
Ant Army By Elijah Leonard What if they can talk? ask the humans. What if they
are smart? ask the humans. What if they took over the world? ask the humans.
Well, now s our chance. I am Gerald, an ant that lives in a human family s
backyard, along with my own family. I have two best friends: Margaret and Antony.
Margaret is supposed to be the smart one. She always has a plan and she has all A s
in all her classes at the insectschool. Antony is the silly one. He always has a joke,
even in terrible situations. Even his name is a joke: ANTony, get it? It is 5:00 in the
morning and we are all ready to start the day. We live in an antpile with about
800,000 ants in it. All of us have one problem with the humans: they keep trying to
destroy their home. The humans always think that all they are just helping
themselves, but we just build the pile back up. Usually, we wait about four hours
for one of the humans to come to our home. This time they gave us time to plan.
How about every time the humans are about to come, we crawl out far away from
our pile, says Margaret, and when they see that we aren t in the pile, they will
think we abandoned it, so they will leave us alone. But the humans and their world
are so big, that it will take us forever to get back to our home, I say, and besides, do
you think they won t notice a colony of over 800,000 ants crawling away from their
home? Good point, says Margaret. Oh shoot, cries Antony, they re here. The kids

Pepsi Essay
FMCG business is typically characterised as high volume and low margin.
Companies aim to create brand loyalty and trust towards their brand. Brands
continuously evolve themselves in order to ensure that they are able to match
changing needs in the market. Rebranding is one of the strategies which they
employ for this purpose. It is done so as to create a new and differentiated image of
the brandin the minds of consumers and other stakeholders.
Some of the greatest FMCG brands do this to rejuvenate their brand. Coco Cola,
PepsiCo, HUL and Kellogg s are some of the biggest brands across the globe. They
all have evolved there brands over a period of time. Rebranding is done in order to
ensure that the brand matches the current trends and lifestyles of their customers.
This is also done to ensure that they are able to grow in future period. Rebranding
strategy varies from company to company. Some brands undergo a radical change.
Whereas, certain brands like to maintain their heritage and history with its brand and
hence rebranding here happens over a period of time.
Pepsi has been rebranding itself over a period of time in order to be relevant. . Pepsi s
target over these more than 100 years has been the youth. All its logos are designed

The sales which are made in FMCG sector reputation and perception in the minds of
consumer play a vital role for it. In order to retain or gain market share, brands needs
to evolve themselves so that they are able to fend of the competition in the market.
Rebranding is used as a marketing strategy by firms to outdo their competitors and
handling price competition arising out of it. In 2000, Dabur was facing stiff
competition from other brands like Marico which were taking away the market share
of the brand. As a result, Dabur repositioned itself and modified its logo to match its

The Iraqi Dry Canal Profile
1.2 Iraqi Dry Canal Profile
Iraqi leaders have a larger vision called The Dry Canal project to transport goods
between the North and South of the world quickly, safely and inexpensively. Road
and rail schemes should be planned to run this project in Iraq could change the
ordinary shape on the regional trade. In short: Shipments (Cargo) coming across the
Gulf will be loaded in trains and trucks from the Iraqi Grand port of Al Faw Southern
of the country, and then will travel across the country to Turkey and then to Europe.
This would give shippers companies an alternative to traditional but no longer route

This is not enough, especially with respect to rural roads. In accordance with
international standards, and require every 100 people in the km need 1 km of public
roads in this area; Road s density in Iraq stands at 0.18 km sq.km currently, it s
impossible to know exactly how many kilometers of roads that will be built under the
new planned master plan, Amer A.Saeed, President of the project management
(Ministry of construction and housing) says; It depends on the output of the study
we will finance the project accordingly . Estimating the scope of the rehabilitation of
the road also depends on the results of the study. What is clear is that the initial
efforts would focus on improving the situation of the existing roads network.
Authorities will consider that the expansion of services for the new roads is the first
step in the project, including highways and bypass roads, finally, linking new urban
centers in the country and reducing congestion in large cities [2].
In 2020, it could be a challenge in the case of the Suez Canal, the busiest trade

improvement of the security situation in Iraq, Baghdad city is beginning to formulate

Cuba Music Analysis
The first thing that I found was interesting reading the three excerpts from Cuba and
its Music was seeing the type of artist Arsenio Rodriguez was. It was said that once
Arsenio had the inspiration, they would complete the arrangement within two hours
and that they premiered two or three songs per week which to think about is crazy
compared to artists today and the time they take to write songs. I think that music
throughout Cuba moved very fast throughout the culture and it all started with how
fast they created their music and how much music they put out. They continued to
talk about Arsenio s creation of son montuno which is surprising because Rodriguez
seemed to be the artist of new things, but we never really was the creator of all of the
musical ideas he brought about. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also includes Arsenio s popularization of a conjunto and his addition of pianos to
his music, yet again not being the creator of this idea, but being the known artist for
this new idea for Cuban music. Arsenio continued to add a second trumpet and conga
as well to his music along with the recent legalization of congas, again another big
change Arsenio made in Cuban music. Just thinking back on these examples shows
how much of a game changer Arsenio was in Cuba. Arsenio took new, surprising
ideas and created them into something greater and spread them throughout Cuban
music. No, he was not the first to add new instruments to son, but, yes, he was the
first to popularize new ideas and continue to form Cuban music. Every artistical move
he made can be clearly defined in his music, whether it be the instrumental solo or the
use of the campana instead of the conga during the montuno. I think that Arsenio was
an excellent artist when it came to popularizing ideas and really adding to the culture

Slave Carton Analysis
The Slave Structural Province is a unique and distinctive Archean craton in the
northwest Canadian Shied, which is indicated by its rock types, deposits and
structures (Padgham,1992). The Slave province covers much smaller than (1/10)
that of Superior Province, which is about 213 000 km2. The supracrustals (33% of
Slave province) consist of 70 80% of greywacke mudstone and approximately 20%
of volcanic rocks, which is high in SiO2 (felsic to intermediate) (Padgham,1992).
There are abundant mineral deposits in the Slave Province: gold deposits, rare
element rich pegmatite and zinc lead silver concentrated volcanogenic massive
sulfides (VMS), which differ from the high contents of copper zinc gold in the

All of the volcanic and metasedimentary rocks are metamorphosed, whose grades are
extending from greenschist to upper amphibolite, characterized by low pressure but
high temperature (Isachsen Bowring, 1994). The influence of basement fracture zone
is reflected in the homoclinal and abruptly alternated trends of the volcanic belts,
which is more frequently found in the southwestern domain of the province, while
north belts show angular patterns (Fyson Helmstaedt, 1988; Padgham,1992;
Padgham Fyson, 1992). Except for the sharp dips of the volcanics, regional scale
folds, foliations and cleavages over several successions shown in the
metasedimentary rocks are studied to understand the deformation and metamorphism
(Isachsen Bowring, 1994). Fyson Helmstaedt (1988) compare three major types of
folds which are ranked by their ages and sizes from oldest, most extensive F0 to
minor sized, cleavage foliation associated S3 folds with intermediate type F1 between
them and they suggest that the parallel trend and they suggest both foliation and
folds are results of syntectonic
The Hidden Recesses Of The Mind
He that has eyes to see and ears to hear may convince himself that no mortal can
keep a secret. If his lips are silent, he chatters with his fingertips; betrayal oozes out
of him at every pore. And thus the task of making conscious the most hidden recesses
of the mind is one which it is quite possible to accomplish.
Sigmund Freud, Dora:An Analysis of a Case of Hysteria
All human writing contains hidden pieces of the unconscious mind buried within
layers of symbols and psychological defenses. When one writes something, all
previous experiences, feelings, and thoughts are brought together to form whatever
the person wishes to convey. Hidden emotions and feelings that are being suppressed
by psychological defences are often expressed unconsciously revealing the speaker s
hidden secrets. Logan LeBlanc s squibs contain multiple different psychological
defences, but Intellectualization and escapism appear the most often; they are usually
used together in his writing. Almost every time a very personal topic comes up in
one of LeBlanc s logical trains of thought, the conversation suddenly changes to either
something that he deems happy or acceptable, or he starts stating facts about one
topic or another. One example is when he says This would mean that even though
most people are strangers, they are still family in a way after talking about the
relationship between family and strangers in squib number one. After saying this, he
immediately escapes his thoughts and changes
Organizational Development Is The Best At What They Do
Organizations become successful by being the best at what they do. In other words,
how well the body develops the vision and mission of their organization. I believe
the significances of being the best is the team s approach to OD. some agencies fail
to meet the demands of changes internally and externally. Business conditions do not
remain the same year to year. Internal employee s needs and working conditions also
change externally, the costumer s needs change from time to time too. The
understanding of this and knowing how to develop one s organization to meet the
change leads to a successful organization. The CEO, to succeed in developing the
business, he must have employee involvement and commitment. In other words,
engaged employees from top management to the team leaders. The entire workforce
must be aware of the vision and mission of the organization and the changes that will
get them there. Organizational development is the thing that will get the
organization to its goals and objectives. According to the textbook, OD encompasses
the long range efforts and plans targeted at improving an organization s talent to
endure by changing the way it solves a problem and revitalize its developments. OD
involves moving toward an adaptive organization and achieving corporate excellence
by integrating the desires of employees for growth and development with
organizational Goals (Brown, 2011, p. 4). Not only does it take corporate events, but
a corporate practitioner. A person
Ptolmaic s View That The Earth Is The Center Of The
Universe
A: Ptolmaics model suggested that the earth was the center of the universe. This was
based around the concept that they believed that the orbit of the planets had to be
perfectly circular and they had no idea just how far the planets were from the earth
which meant that they could not account for the lack of stellar parallax. Or rather, if
the earthwas moving, then why don t we see the stars at a different angles at different
times in the year? They used this reasoning to justify the idea that the earth must be
stationary.
However, if the earth was stationary, they couldn t account for the apparent retrograde
motion of planets in the sky. Ptolmaic created the model of the universe that
suggested that the planets circled the earth on what
Don T Stop Me Now Commercial Analysis
In the year 1979 many events happened. Queen released Don t Stop Me Now and
Mister Microphone was introduced to the public with a classic television
commercial. This commercial is considered one of the most effective television
ads even to this day. The ad increased sales so much that in 1981 a second Mister
Microphone was introduced. This ad is a nice example of four of the Jib Fowles s
15 appeals. These appeals explain the way advertisers try to, well, appeal to us to
convince us to buy their product. The Mister Microphone ad fits under the appeals
aesthetic, affiliation, attention, and prominence. Mister Microphone swept the nation
during the early 80 s. But why? Many link Mister Microphone s success to its
outstanding commercial. This commercial uses the 13th appeal, aesthetic appeal. The
aesthetic appeal displays what is appealing to gain attention from viewers. (546) This
commercial has tons of aesthetic properties related to the time period. These
displayed properties include youth, happiness, and even using the current pop culture
references, such as roller skating and boom boxes. They even further the aesthetic

The desire to exhibit ourselves in such a way as to make others look at us is a
primitive, insuppressible instinct. (545) The appeal is used in this commercial in
almost every scene. Everyone that has a Mister Microphone stands out in the video.
He or she is the center of attention at one point. They even further this by using
groups of people who seem to have only one trait in common, they have a Mister

Mister Microphone is used to gain attention and admiration by being able to be

Tang Song And Song Dynasty Analysis
Speaking of ancient China and its enormous influence in East Asian history, the first
dynasty that comes into people s mind must be Tang dynasty. Tang is universally
acknowledged as one of the most powerful dynasties in Chinese history, attracting
many vassal states to study the political system and culture of Tang dynasty. Almost
every main country in East Asian history has the slight trace of Tang; and even today,
Chinese often proudly call themselves Tang people . Contrasting to Tang, Song
dynastyis not that memorable because of its lack of military strength and several
humiliating defeats. However, Song, in history, is a dynasty that raised Chinese
civilization to a higher level and even exceeded Tang dynasty. Song itself also
provided a model for its neighboring countries to imitate. Take KoryЕЏ for a perfect
example. As the market economy, the technology, the citizens living standard and the
education all came to a new climax during Song dynasty, China, meanwhile, deeply
influenced KoryЕЏ in these four aspects. To begin with, a strikingly market
economy was developed rapidly during Song dynasty, leading China into a period
of unprecedented economic prosperity. This is first reflected by a wide variety of
market goods. As Patricia Ebrey describes, here we find pearl, jade, talismans,
exotic plants and fruits, seasonal catches from the sea, wild game all the rarities of
the world seem to be gathered here. (Ebrey, 178) The goods were not limited to

Is Satire Useful
Satire: Is it useful?
In the modern day there are satirists like John Oliver, Trevor Noah, John Stewart and
many others. These satirists use satire which is used to expose truth behind a
concept, like ad s, consumerism, and the government. One of the oldest examples of
satire is A Modest Proposal, written by an Irish man named Jonathan Swift. It s
purpose was to expose the British government for oppressing the Irish and
sarcastically stating how the British eat babies. It exposes how they consume
imported goods made by people from less fortunate countries who die in the process
of making their goods. Satire is useful because it exposes a gruesome topic to an
audience so they understand why something is an issue and it can hopefully ... Show

1) All these were made in factories in other countries, like children in China or
children in Africa. Satirists in the modern age and in 1700 s Ireland have exposed
behind the scenes of consumerism in the higher classes and goods production, and
how consumers don t want to know that so they can indulge themselves, people are
dying. Those who are more thrifty (as I must confess the times require) may flay
the carcass, the skin of which, artificially dressed, will make admirable gloves for
ladies and summer boots for fine gentlemen. ( A Modest Proposal, Pg. 15).
Jonathan Swift exposes how the higher class in British society are consumers and
only care about there accesories and there goods not caring where they come from,
and not much has changed since then, it s now escalated. Satire raises awareness for
the effects of consumerism and how addicted people are for products and
Theme Of The Demon In The Freezer
Alana LeSuer Mrs. Davis English II Honors 16 March 2015 Comparative Analysis
Essay Death is the undeniable force that compels people into extreme situations.
The Demon in the Freezer, by Richard Preston, is a dystopian novel that focuses on
smallpox and the eradication of the horrific disease. On the other hand, Lost
Horizon, by James Hilton, is a utopian novel set on a surreal island where a perfect
society is idealized. These two novels present a central theme about human nature;
however, it is displayed in different ways as shown through the contrasting genres of
books. The novels use of conflict, as well as diction, tone, and mood; along with
motifs, present the theme that the fear of death pushes people to extreme behaviors.

The conflicts in both novels underline death and crossing boundaries to what is
ethnically right. The diction used in the books, such as medical jargon or bitterness,
links back to the theme in association with tone and mood. Both motifs of time and

about human nature is displayed in all of these literary devices to enhance the readers
perspective. Learning about human nature and how humans react to specific subjects
helps society avoid death because it pushes people to drastic

Chicago,

the Blue School that embodied their spirit of creativity and collaboration.5 And they
loved it all.
Before They Were Blue
In 1987, Chris, Phil and Matt found themselves in their mid 20s, sharing an apartment
in New
York City, each quite different but all in search of a creative outlet. Matt had once
read that life was a succession of hitting plateaus right when you needed to meet a
person or form a relationship to move to the next level. That was our experience, he
said. Phil was the relative newcomer to the group;
Matt and Chris had a history that extended back to high school.
Matt was born into a fourth generation New York City family, his mother a writer
and teacher, and his father a documentary film maker. He attended public elementary
school, which he described as a big institution with no soul, 6 and then the Fieldston
High School, a private institution. He recalled his high school years:
I was lucky to get into Fieldston at all. My test scores were so so; I later found out I
was borderline dyslexic. But the application
Essay On Freedom
Were you born with freedom? History has shown us that people had to demand
their freedom, so in a way they achieved or earned it. Is freedom granted only if it
is demanded , is a question that people ask when they see our country or other
nations history. When we are born, we don t really think how we received our
freedom, but we got it by the help of people from the past. The following stories
are examples of the fight for freedom in our country and others: March on
Washington , Cairo , and also Reading Lolita in Tehran . People had to protest for
days maybe even more, just so the government would take them serious. People didn

words the author writes were very sad Some of us died . I m shocked how violent
protests can get, just so the people could gain their freedom. Reading Lolita in
Tehran is a memoir written by Azar Nafisi, That uses your imagination even more
than the other stories because the author tells the reader to do so. I have no choice
but to appeal once again to your imagination , she would ask you to think about a
young lady named Sanaz. Inside her home she s a very happy and colorful lady,
but when she goes outside she has to cover her entire body with dull and black
clothing. She says her goodbyes and puts on her black robe and scarf over her
orange shirt and jeans, coiling her scarf around her neck , and put on thin lacy
black gloves . Even after doing all of that she still has to roam the streets like a dog
scared of being arrested or even worst punished for not dressing or acting properly.
On the streets, there s multiply militia troops searching for people that are disobeying
the laws or doing something that shows rebellion. Women of her mother s generation
could walk the streets freely, enjoy the company of the opposite sex, join the police
War In A Separate Peace
For me, this moment four years is a moment in history was the war. The war was
and is a reality for me. I still instinctively live and think in its atmosphere (32). This
quote made by Gene encapsulates the major role World War II plays in A Separate
Peace. John Knowles, the author, utilizes the war as a spectacular backdrop for his
novel. In fact, without World WarII, this book would just be another story lost in the
churn of the millions of novels published. A Separate Peace, which would lack an
external conflict, have only a paucity of symbolisms and connections, and suffer
from a lack of explanation for many of the character s actions, would need to be
completely rewritten or scratched altogether. The absence of World War II would

Three of the main characters, Gene, Brinker, and Leper would all dramatically
change if there was no war. Probably the most obvious of these characters who
were impacted by the World War II was Leper. The innocent of the class, Leper
never knew what he was getting into when he enlisted to ski in the war. Leper s
life is then turned upside down, and he goes completely crazy. Without the war,
Leper s character would need to be developed in some alternative way. Brinker also
completely changes and manipulates his actions as a consequence of this war.
Known formerly as the most responsible, respectable leader on campus at Devon,
Brinker morphs into a character that seems particularly indifferent and downright
rebellious. Knowles indirectly characterizes him through Gene s thoughts,
mentioning that Brinker the Lawgiver had turned rebel for the Duration (122). It
is very difficult for one to say that without the war, Brinker would select the path of
rebellion, rather than stay serious and have a possibly brighter future. Finally, Gene
is not only affected by his internal struggles but also the struggle that is going on
overseas as he completes his years at Devon. Like most things that happen in the
protagonist s life, Gene is never concrete on his stance or the following actions he
should take on these. He desires to lose his old, murky life in

  • 2. Essay on Jonathan Kozol The Human Cost Of An Illiterate... Knowledge is an effective factor in which human society relies on. Throughout history, those who were knowledgeable were well respected, honored and revered. Author Jonathan Kozol writes his essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society, to project the importance of knowledge and to explain that without it, one can suffer disastrous repercussions. He highlights real life examples of how people suffer as a result of chronic illiteracy, and his entire essay is an advocacy for knowledgeand literacy. Other authors such as Frederick Douglass and Richard Wright would use their personal experiences in completely different settings to highlight the power of knowledge. Douglass, a man born into slavery, and Wright, a man living through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowledge has the ability to free Douglass from his social injustice. This realization foreshadows Douglass career in the future; as he is no longer enslaved. As history continues and times have changed, the power of knowledge still remains the same. Jonathan Kozol is a man that expresses the same belief as Douglass; that knowledge is rewarding. Although the times have changed; Kozol acknowledges the debilitating effect that comes when one is not knowledgeable. Kozol makes this evident in his novel as he states that Not knowing the right word for the right thing at the right time is a form of subjugation (165). According to Kozol, knowledge determines the way society views an individual. An illiterate person will struggle in a coerced society. Therefore, the author informs the audience the blessing it is to have knowledge because they will be set free from being socially enslaved. As a result, the significance of knowledge and its blessings grants freedom against social injustice. Douglass and Wright both experience similar reactions to their newly gained knowledge. After finding access to a library, Wright begins to read and learn more about different perspectives and the way others think. He eventually realizes, through his readings, that he is hurt by what he learns as is evident in quotation But to feel that there were feelings denied me, that the very breath of life itself was beyond my reach, that more than anything hurt, wounded me,
  • 3. Video and Uses for HTML5 1 Introduction 1.1 Introduction In todays world the amount of video that is being captured is growing exponentialy. Over 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. (http:/ /www.youtube.com/yt/press/en GB/statistics.html) This most of this video is being captured through the over 1.5 billion smart phones in circulation across the world. This video is then edited and uploaded to a video hosting site aka youtube or vimo or shared through a variaty of social media channels. This rate of creation and the need to have tools to curate and modify this ever expanding sea of video will create the need for more versitile video ediditors. One of the biggest developments in communications and technology in recent months is the rise of HTML5. This updated markup language has serious potential to destabilize a variety of different computing environments as we know them, and yield impact to the field that can only be barely conceived of today. One of the biggest impacts HTML5 is likely to generate in 2013 is in the field of mobile platforms. Already, HTML5 is looking to destabilize the mobile environment, with Web based apps that can be run via browser potentially looking to encroach on app stores in their current form. More and more mobile applications will come available using HTML5, and that s going to mean a huge difference in the way these mobile applications are developed. What s more, HTML5 is looking to change the way apps are developed. There will be, as
  • 4. Organic Molecules Lab Report Abstract Atoms are the basic units of matter and all life is based on them. Life on earth is based on the element carbon. It is a highly versatile atom able to form four covalent bonds with itself or other atoms such as hydrogen and water. Atoms combine to form molecules and those that are carbon based are referred to as organic molecules. Organic molecules occur in four different types in living cells; carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. They are also known as hydrocarbons due to the presence of both hydrogen and carbon. Carbohydrates are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in the ratio 1:2:1. They are important sources of energy and are classified in three main groups; monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are all polymers made during dehydration synthesis reactions from monomers. These reactions result in the loss of water forming strong covalent bonds. They are referred to as endergonic reactions since they require an input of energy. Hydrolytic reactions are the opposite as they break polymers into single unit monomers using water and in the process releasing energy thus referred to as exergonic reactions (Gorrod, 1985). The monomer form of carbohydrates is a monosaccharide e.g. glucose (used for energy in cells), fructose and ribose. When two monosaccharides undergo a dehydration synthesis reaction they form a disaccharide e.g. sucrose, which is a combination of glucose and fructose. Sucrose is used for transport in plants. Polysaccharides consist of three or more covalently bonded monosaccharides. Starch and glycogen are good examples and are both used in energy storage in plants and animals respectively. Monomers of lipids are fatty acids and glycerol while amino acids are monomers of proteins. Amino acids mainly function to regulate different cell functions as well as catalyze various cell reactions. Nucleotides are the monomers of nucleic acids and they function in storing the genetic information of a cell (DNA) and synthesis of proteins (RNA). All these monomers undergo dehydration synthesis reactions to form their corresponding polymers and are used in
  • 5. Bacteria As An Intermediate ( Jia Et Al. Essay These strains of bacteria have the capacity to transform sugars to acetic acid directly without creating ethanol as an intermediate (Jia et al., 2007). The overall chemical reaction conducted by these bacteria may be represented as: C6H12O6 в†’ 3CH3COOH. According to Jia et al., 2007 these acetogenic bacteria synthesize acetic acid from single carbon mixtures, including methanol, carbon monoxide, or a blend of carbon dioxide and hydrogen: 2 CO2 + 4 H2 в†’ CH3COOH + 2 H2O. It is also described in the figure below. Figure 2: Schematic outline of Vinegar Production (Wood, 1998) The capacity of Clostridium to directly degrade complex sugars into simpler ones to produce energy, or to synthesize acetic acid from less costly inputs, suggests that these bacteria could produce acetic acid more efficiently than ethanol oxidizers like Acetobacter (Jia et al., 2007). Despite this fact, Clostridium bacteria are more susceptible to acid than Acetobacter (Jia et al., 2007). Even the most acid tolerant Clostridium strains can produce vinegar in concentrations of only a few per cent, compared to Acetobacter strains that can produce vinegar in concentrations up to 20%. At present, it remains more cost effective to produce vinegar using Acetobacter, rather than using Clostridium and concentrating it. As a result, although acetogenic bacteria have been known since 1940, their industrial use is confined to a few niche applications (Jia et al., 2007). Though the production of acetic acid is

Due to this, the closest that a non Indigenous Australians will come to have contact with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is through representation in the Australian media. Most media stories are viewed as one sided or racist with even the Prime Minster Tony Abbott making comments that it is a lifestyle choice for the Indigenous peoples to live the way that they do in small communities consisting of up to 8 people. This article gives the reader an inequitable view of Indigenous Australians, defending Tony Abbot s point of view and the audience is encouraged to agree with mainstream media in regards to whether or not Tony Abbott is racist. Article B from the Koori Mail condemns Tony Abbott s viewpoint as not only racist but he is insulting the very culture that he is representing. Article B states that Tony Abbott does not understand Indigenous culture and how important land is to them Connection to country is everything to Aboriginal people defines Aboriginal people and sustains us in a cultural and spiritual sense and can play a vital role in building economic independence, self determination and healing (Greg Cromelin, Article B). With Article B the audience is encouraged to get angry at Tony Abbott s comments and make him out to be racist. Misrepresentation of Indigenous Australians in the media, as seen in the Courier Mail (Article A) and the Koori Mail (Article B), shows a different side of Tony Abbott s comments. Each with their own biases and by comparing the two articles it shows that good representations in the media still have a long way to go. • 8. The Disappearing Male It Makes Some Startling Claims In the 2008 film documentary entitled The Disappearing Male it makes some startling claims with regards to the declining male population and associated reported health defects. The films concentrates on the reasoning behind these claims and why so little attention has been paid to it. While the film presents imperative data it does not delve enough into the emotional hardship that women feel as a result of the social perception of her role as a mother. In the following paragraphs I seek to analyze how our society s immense expectations create these feelings. Along with this I intend to look at the differences in perception of the infertility because of the respective gender roles. As early as the mid to late 1800 s research has been conducted to scrutinize the differences between men and women. Darwin was at the forefront with his findings in the On the Origin of Species. It was in this work that researchers and the public based their assumptions on the biological differences between men and women, which as a result became the basis of a rather one sided debate working against the social advancement of women: writers argued that women s efforts to enter the public seek employment, to vote, to enter misguided because they placed women s social and political aspirations over the purposes for which their bodies had been designed (Kimmel 23). Because of hindsight today we understand that difference between men and women is more complex and gender cannot

  • 10. Strategy Change at Minnesota Bio Labs Abstract Organizational change occurs when a company makes a transition from its current state to some desired future state. Managing organizational change is the process of planning and implementing change in organizations in such a way as to minimize employee resistance and cost to the organization while simultaneously maximizing the effectiveness of the change effort. This paper will present a case study of Minnesota Biolabs, a company that supplied rabbits to the producers of injectable devices and their move from injectable rabbits to SepsisDetection Test (SDT). Instead of conducting tests in live rabbits, SDT used blood extracted from horseshoe crabs for the tests. After extraction, the crabs were returned to the ocean where they... I want to make Italy great, respected and feared said Mussolini in 1925. Mussolini s foreign policy included a number of positive and negative factors which all contributed to the rise, and the ultimately to the downfall, of both Mussolini and the Italian empire. In order for Mussolini to create an empire he needed Germany to remain weak, but once Hitler came to power, Germany grew much too fast for Mussolini. When the pair met in 1934 Mussolini realised that Hitler wasn t going to let Mussolini take over. Hitler s eagerness to expand was now apparent despite breaking the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. In April 1935, Britain, France and Italy, the wartime allies, attended the Stresa conference to discuss measures against Hitler, after he broke the terms of the Treaty. They all agreed to band together and prevent further expansion attempts by Hitler, yet the agreement was never signed. But like Germany, Mussolini was keen on expanding the Italian empire and in October 1935 Mussolini invaded Abyssinia. The invasion of Abyssinia was Mussolini s revenge. • 15. Of Male Characters In Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, And... As a playwright, William Shakespeare has formed male characters to be able to justify radical acts of violence because they are specifically male. These behaviors are often then reinforced by other characters by putting the blame of the male s actions on another. Female characters in particular are a juxtaposition of the male role of being reckless, by saying essentially that they are unable to do such things because they are not men. Examples of these instances are in the plays Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, and Macbeth. A parallel scene to this is in Othello. Othello kills Desdemona because he believes that she was unfaithful to him in scene five. Initially Othello was going to be executed because it was unknown that he thought Desdemona was disloyal and it was thought that Othello killed out of hatred. Lodovico talks to Othello, and learns that Iago had tricked Othello into this. Lodovico does give Othello the consequence of imprisonment, but this shows that he does not believe that Othello should suffer the full repercussions of what he has done because he was tricked, and thought that Desdemona was unfaithful. Even if one is deceived to believe such a thing had happen, it does not justify killing another. With Lodovico s response, it is verified that he believes that a natural reaction would be to do so. The two women were faced with death because of infidelity. The reasoning behind both actions taken by the male characters were because it is out of honor.
  • 16. Carmen Composed by Georges Bizet Essay Carmen Composed by Georges Bizet Georges Bizet (1838 1875) composed the opera Carmen, it opened on March 3, 1875 at the Opera Comique in Paris. It was not a success, initially. Then again, Carmen would soon become the most popular opera of all time. The entire work however, was disapproved of for its harsh libretto, and the music was criticized. The reception of Carmen left Bizet acutely depressed and on June 3, 1875 he suffered from two heart attacks and died. Carmen opens with a Prelude in ternary form (ABACA) in which it opens the stage action with a faint motif. Beware of me if I give you my heart and she sings about the fickleness of love. Don Jose is very uninterested in Carmen s song. Carmen becomes quite fascinated and throws a flower at Jose. Carmen then leaves to go into the cigarette factory. Jose decides to pick up the flower and Micaela returns with money and a letter from his mother. The letter urges that Jose marry Micaela. In this scene between Don Jose and Micaela there is an interruption in the mood and music. Here a chromatic downward scale in the music starts and where Jose starts singing of an evil spirit which is we assume represents Carmen. Micaela leaves Jose and there is a sudden accident at the cigarette factory. Zuniga sends Jose to oversee what had happened. Jose comes out with Carmen, she apparently she had attacked and ended up stabbing another girl. Zuniga questions her but Carmen mocks him with ridiculous humming. Carmen is revealed to be violent and mocking. Zuniga orders Jose to tie Carmen s hands for she is to be arrested. Carmen now knows that Jose is in love with her and she persuades him to untie her. As

The role of women has radically changed as New Zealand has gone through political and cultural reform. The state, the voluntary sector and the marketplace has had to accommodate for new needs of women and has given, in some cases, a better chance for equality between men and women. Significant changes in policy have been caused due to women gaining monetary independence through the workforce, status within a marriage and recognition as a mother. For some women participation in the market has beneficial however because of discrimination, inequity and inequality the labour force is oppressive. As previously mentioned from the 1800s to the 1950s the state viewed women only as a wife or mother, therefore throughout this period women had were not participating in the paid workforce at the same level as men (Mclennan et al, 2010). By the 1980s participation of women in the workforce had radically risen as women were seeking the ability to be able to choose what they do with their lives to be homemakers full time, to have a full time paid job, or to be part time in the workforce and part time at home (Office of the Minister of Women s Affairs, 1985, p.4). The market met the needs of these women by providing opportunities for women to either work full time or part time, earn an independent income all with textbook equality with their male counterparts (Scott, 2003). The market through strongly encouraging women to work did meet the needs of some New Zealand women but solo mothers who were required to care full time for infant children at home were not receiving any income and therefore were excluded (Scott, 2003) The relationship between women and the voluntary sector within Aotearoa New Zealand is dynamic. • 19. Does Juan Rulfo Criticise Modern Catholicism In Pedro Paramo To what extent does Juan Rulfo criticise modern Catholicism in Pedro Paramo? Throughout the novel, Pedro Paramo, the author Juan Rulfo uses imagery, conflict, foreshadowing and juxtaposition to comment on the corruption of organized religion in the world, particularly the Catholic Church. The small village where the novel is set, has become a prison for the souls who remain and the local Priest abuses his position of authority to decide who will be blessed and be released. The author juxtaposes the terrible surroundings and actions of the townspeople with the purity of the religionthey believe in. The people of the town are betrayed by the one they are supposed to idolize most, sin most egregiously and yet, even when they know that they are damned to eternity, they continue to rely on their religion for salvation. The story is set in Comala, which is introduced by the main character Juan and the voice of his mother using strong imagery: The road rose and fell. It rises or falls whether you re coming or going. If you are leaving, it s uphill; but as you arrive it s downhill. (4) The reader is immediately given a sense that Juan is descending to a place that is easy to get to, but very difficult to leave. A city with this much power generally sets the score for other counties to follow. When San francisco undermines justice with institutional biases, they set a dangerous example for others to follow. While San Francisco has shown great strides to improve itself internally and externally, there are still major issues that need to be addressed, specifically in their incarceration system. San Francisco has created a system where minorities are more susceptible to being imprisoned due to the city s precarious handling of funds. The San Francisco prison system hosted 1,556 citizens in the year 2013.[1] During that exact year, 56% of those citizens incarcerated were of African Americandescent, in a city where African Americans make up a mere 6% of the total population.[1,2] Compare that to the city s majority race, caucasians, who make up 41.6% of the city as a whole and accounted for only 22% percent of all prisoners.[1,2] Looking at these statistics it could be assumed that racism is playing a role in this, however there is one key factor that is so often lost when issues of race flare up. This factor is of course, money. San francisco has been the host of recent major technological booms which have brought increased revenue into the city, but who s pockets is this money falling into? Blake, a professional engraver, wrote this poem (aabb rhyme), in the voice of a young boy, an uneducated chimney sweeper. This speaker is obviously a persona, a fictitious character created by Blake, as it is apparent that he wasn t a child or a chimney sweeper at the time he wrote this poem. In the poem s next 2 stanzas the narrator speaks about a dream that Tom Dacre had the same day his youth was taken from him. He had dreamt that sweepers whom he knew where all of them locked up in coffins of black. The black color of these coffins means, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, seriously bad or unfortunate, associated with severely bad conditions or misfortune. The coffins, which are a container in which a dead body is placed for a burial (OED), represent all of them being trapped in this miserable black world where, ironically, children worked to make money for adults. The entire dream is influenced by Tom s fear of being trapped in this hell for all his life. Later, in the fifth stanza an Angel appeared in Tom s dream that opened up the coffins and set them free of their misfortune. This angel that freed them can be considered as an omen, a sign that shows how something, good or bad, will happen in the future. Tom ran down a flat expanse of land with the sweepers where they had fun and washed themselves up. The words bright and shine Blake used in verses thirteen

The latent content is the underlying, hidden part of the dream that holds the true meaning of the unconscious desires (Solms, 2000). The process by which the latent content is transformed into the disguised manifest content is what Freud referred to as the dream work (Sharpe, 1988). The dream work can disguise the latent views through the following four mechanisms: condensation (the condensing of multiple thoughts into one), displacement (replaces a latent element by a concealed trivial reference to it e.g. your mother is represented as a cat), symbolism (which transforms thoughts into visual elements) followed by a process of secondary revision in which the dreaming mind takes all these distorted elements and organises them into a more comprehensible format (Schredl, 2008) In order to analyse my dream through Freudian interpretation I will begin by discussing the manifest content. The X Men universe is, governed by male rules and in which no woman could ever hope to ascend to the top (Kaklamanidou 72). There are many controversial and heated arguments regarding the previous X men films being patriarchal. Despite the fact that the savior in the film X Men: Apocalypse is a female character, there are many instances in which a patriarchal society is displayed. Males are shown to dominate the female characters within the X Men universe throughout the film, for instance, the X Men universe is shown as the world which is only ruled by males, females and their powers are controlled and guided by males, lastly the heroism of females in the X Men universe is always concealed as male characters receive more screen time as well as all the credit. To begin with, the X Men: Apocalypse portrays a society in which males solely rule. The movie begins in 3600 BCE with a sole ruler known as the Apocalypse. He solely rules the earth with his four horsemen. There are no queens, nor princesses that are identified within the film to claim the throne. Therefore it can be witnessed that the idea of male dominance and patriarchy is portrayed to the audience since the starting of the movie. Furthermore, Kaklamanidou in her article argues that the previous X men movies are, narrated by a male point of view (Kaklamanidou 63). This is also evident through X Men: Apocalypse because the

Americans started to spend increasingly and purchase more as the economy blasted and a society of consumerism blossomed. As an aftereffect of this new yearning to have everything, combined with the steps made by ladies while the men were away, both individuals from the family unit started to work outside the home. Eating out, which had beforehand been viewed as an extravagance, turned into a typical event and after that a need. Laborers, and working families, required snappy administration and modest nourishment for both lunch and supper. This need is the thing that drove the amazing accomplishment of the early fast foodgoliaths, which took into account the family on the go. The Eleven General Orders of a Sentry, The Articles of the UCMJ, as well as our own Sailors Creed illustrates how a military service member should conduct himself or herself on a daily basis, on and off duty. • 38. Quotes In The Invisible Man Invisible man by Ralph Ellison is told in the first person by an unnamed African American man who considers himself invisible to society. The comic book is a representation of the Invisible man s life. The certain event in the comic is when the protagonist gets injured at his work and is taken to the factory s hospital. Three strange white doctors attempt to help the protagonist, but turn out to be lunatics and proceed to experiment on him. The doctors put the protagonist through electroshock therapy to the point where he is no longer afraid of Dr. Bledsoe, who is the president of the protagonist s college that he attends. This whole event occurs because the protagonist is black and the doctors would not condone doing experiments on their own kind, white people. Firstly, the protagonist explains why he is invisible. He says that it is not a physical flaw of his own, but a mistake of the inner eye of others. There is something flawed in the way they see the world outside themselves. The protagonist also states that there are some advantages to remaining invisible, although sometimes he doubts if he, himself, really exists. You weren t being smart, were you, boy? he said, not unkindly. No, sir! You sure that bit about equality was a mistake? (Ellison 25). Racial equality isn t allowed in Southern discussion. The protagonist begins his story of realization at the end of his high school days, as a smart and responsible student in a southern U.S. state. After

How about every time the humans are about to come, we crawl out far away from our pile, says Margaret, and when they see that we aren t in the pile, they will think we abandoned it, so they will leave us alone. But the humans and their world are so big, that it will take us forever to get back to our home, I say, and besides, do you think they won t notice a colony of over 800,000 ants crawling away from their home? Or rather, if the earthwas moving, then why don t we see the stars at a different angles at different times in the year? They used this reasoning to justify the idea that the earth must be stationary. However, if the earth was stationary, they couldn t account for the apparent retrograde motion of planets in the sky. Almost every main country in East Asian history has the slight trace of Tang; and even today, Chinese often proudly call themselves Tang people . Leper s life is then turned upside down, and he goes completely crazy. Without the war, Leper s character would need to be developed in some alternative way. Known formerly as the most responsible, respectable leader on campus at Devon, Brinker morphs into a character that seems particularly indifferent and downright rebellious. Knowles indirectly characterizes him through Gene s thoughts, mentioning that Brinker the Lawgiver had turned rebel for the Duration (122). It is very difficult for one to say that without the war, Brinker would select the path of rebellion, rather than stay serious and have a possibly brighter future.
