2. Summary Of On Dumpster Diving
In 1993, Lars Eighner, a homeless college dropout, published his memoir titled
Travels with Lizbeth. Within, an essay titled On Dumpster Diving shares his
experiences and how they define his identity. Eighner views identity not solely on
his status of a scavenger, but rather on how his experiences shape his identity and
how he acts despite his circumstances. Similarly, as a student, my own identity is not
based on my status, but rather on how my behavior is shaped in my situations. The
identities of individuals are defined by how they live, how they react, and how they
behave in all circumstances, not on their status or profession. Throughout Eighner s
essay, he utilizes various strategies to explain the process of Dumpster divingand how
his personal experiences have shaped his own identity. Starting with a narrative, the
author describes his passion for Dumpsters and his financial reasons for becoming a
scavenger. Transitioning into a didactic tone, Eighner then defines various terms
surrounding this idea of Dumpsterdiving and contrasts the meaning of a scavenger
and scrounger. To him, scavenging is a sound and honorable niche (55), while
scrounging is crude and demeaning. After comparing the motives of Dumpster divers
with average people, he discusses various foods found in Dumpsters and the processes
needed to ensure safe and healthy consumption. With a negative attitude towards
ignorant college students and wasteful consumers, Eighner begins
3. College Admissions Essay-Personal Narrative-Rowing Team
For the first time in our small rowing club s history, we made it to the finals in
what was our biggest regatta of the season. Unfortunately, our boat came in dead
last...by a lot. We felt bad enough, but the last thing I expected was the outburst by
one of the veterans. Having only a few months of rowing experience, I assumed his
yelling at us was directed at me and my novice teammates. The scenario of
confronting him was running through my head. By the time we stacked the boat back
on the trailer, the thoughts myriad of thoughts through my mind were spoken. I
spoke in a tone that my teammates have never seen before. I even surprised myself
with how I stood up and defended myself and the other newer members.
Confronting my teammate was not something I would have done when I first
joined the team. In fact, speaking out wasn t something I had the confidence to do.
In 9th grade Earth Science I would never raise my hand to answer a question to

discovered I was good at mastering small details and became intrigued by specific
topics like the creation of the United States Federal Reserve. Though I still am rarely
the first to jump into a conversation in the classroom, I always look for opportunities

4. Stopping Deforestation In The Amazon
Deforestation is a permanent destruction of forests, and an estimated of 18 millions
acres of forest is destroyed every year. In recent decades, the forest is losing at a
rapid rate, and deforestation is a man made problem because human cut down trees
for economic development and social development. Governments and environmental
agencies have recognized the problems of deforestation, and they set up different
policies to regulate business companies and manufacturers for furthering damage the
forest. One of the most outstanding policies is to restrict illegal commercial activities
in public forest areas, and new policies of reclaiming unregistered forest land and
regulating activities on private forest are also effective methods to stop deforestation.

One of the regulation that Brazilian government and environmentalists put on
regulating deforestation is restricting commercial use of cutting forest. In Jeff
Tollefson s article, Battle for the Amazon, he states federal government designated
areas in the Amazon basin for protection, cracked down on ranchers, farmers and
land speculators, and put pressure on local government, while environmentalists
ramped up campaigns against companies that were exporting beef, leather, and
soya beans from illegally cleared land . From here, we see both government
agencies and environmentalists have actively put effect on stopping illegal
deforestation in Amazon forest, and the result is remarkable. In the latter
paragraph, it states Brazil has lowered its carbon dioxide output more than any
other country through a historic effort to slow forest loss. The deforestation rate
here last years was roughly 75% below the average for 1996 to 2005 just shy of
Brazil s pledge to achieve an 80% reduction by 2020. In other words, it can be said
that the policy on restricting illegal activities in Amazon forest is workable for
stopping deforestation, and government should strengthen the enforcement on
5. Walt Disneyland Research Paper
One day Walt Disney had a vision. It was a vision of a place where children and
parents could have fun together. The more Walt dreamed of a magical park, the
more imaginative and elaborate it became (justdisney.com). This vision that Walt
Disney had was the vision of one of the most well known places on earth,
Disneyland. Originally, he planned for the park to cover an area of 8 acres where
his employees and families could go to relax. However, World War II halted these
plans that he had, which ultimately gave him more time to come up with more
ideas for this vision, and he came to the quick realization that 8 acres was not
nearly enough. Finally in 1953, he had the Stanford Research Institute conduct a
survey for a 100 acre site, outside of Los Angeles. He needed space to build rivers,
waterfalls, and mountains; he would have flying elephants and giant teacups; a
fairy tale castle, moon rockets, and a scenic railway; all inside a magic kingdom
he called Disneyland (justdisney.com). To him, location was his top priority, and it
would have to be in the Los Angeles area, while also being accessible by freeway, as
well as affordable as he did not have much money at the time. The search for the best
spot finally ended in the rural Anaheim, Californiawith a purchase of a 160 acre
orange grove near the junction of the Santa Ana Freeway (I 5) and Harbor Boulevard
(justdisney.com). This would obviously be an expensive project so Walt had to turn
to television for his

Sweat understandably gets a bad rap. It can ruin our hair; our clothes; our furniture;
our mood; our image at home, work and socially; our ability to exercise, play music
and handle gadgets; and far more. And while men tend to sweat more than women
under normal circumstances, both genders are equally impacted by hyperhidrosis a
serious medical condition causing people to sweat excessively (up to 4 or 5 times
more than normal). In fact, according to the International Hyperhidrosis Society the
scholars of sweat nearly 367 million people of all ages struggle with hyperhidrosis on
their hands, feet, face, underarms, or body.
Those living with hyperhidrosis suffer from extreme, uncomfortable, embarrassing,
and emotionally devastating sweating. In fact, an infographic from Dermira an
innovative biotech dedicated to developing treatments for chronic skin conditions is
rife with scary hyperhidrosis statistics and sheds revealing light on this debilitating
sweat inducing condition.
Whether you sweat situationally at a normal level or have clinical hyperhidrosis,
there s one shared weapon: antiperspirants. Love them or hate them, pretty much all
of us need or could certainly benefit from them. But buyer beware; all antiperspirants
are not created equal. And some misnomers exist about antiperspirants that are

only son of a prominent farmer, who was also named Isaac Newton, but died about
three months prior to his son s birth date. Newton was credited for his phenomenal
scientific discoveries during the Scientific Revolution of the 17th century. In his early
years, his mother married a prominent minister and went on to live with this minister,
leaving Newton behind to live with his maternal grandmother. Later in life, Newton
was reunited with his mother. It was speculated that Newton suffered from
depression and anxiety issues as a result of his abandonment. Newton attended

8. Maggot Fly Experiment
Each female fly can lay over 9,000 eggs. The eggs are white and are about 1.2 mm
in length. Within a day, the larvae (maggots) hatch from the eggs; they live and
feed in (usually dead and decaying) organic material, such as garbage or faeces.
They are pale whitish, 3 9 mm long, thinner at the mouth end, and have no legs. At
the end of their thirdinstar, the maggots crawl to a dry cool place and transform
into pupae, coloured reddish or brown and about 8 mm long. The adult flies then
emerge from the pupae. (This whole cycle is known as complete metamorphosis.)
The adults live from half a month to a month in the wild, or longer in benign
laboratory conditions. After having emerged from the pupae, the flies cease to grow;
small flies are not
9. Henry Ford Biography
Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. Ford had a knack for
putting stuff together from an early age. When he was thirteen he received a
pocket watch, he then proceeded to take it apart, and then reassemble it. People
heard about his skill with watches, and started asking him to fix theirs. He even
made his own tools out of nails, and a corset stay. When he got a little older he got a
few boys together to build simple water wheels and steam engines. He gained a lot of
his knowledge about steam engines by becoming friends with the men that ran them.

His experience with his new business was the same way, but with this method
comes failure which Ford soon learned. He didn t give up easily though, the more
he failed the bigger the risk that he wanted to take. Which is why he began building,
and driving race cars. This brought just the right kind of attention in from the right
kind of people. A few tries later and, Ford established his own company in 1903, Ford
Motor Company. In 1907, he created a four cylinder, known as the Model N. It was
$600, and soon became the best selling car in America. That wasn t enough for
him. He wanted to make a better, cheaper vehicle, in 1908 he released the Ford
Model T. This model was made with nine different body styles. Soon, half of all
the cars in America would be the Model T s. Later, the company would move to a
bigger factory. He wanted to increase production and lower cost. He began
observing many different kinds of jobs, and combined the ideas he got from them
with his own, and soon got the idea of a moving assembly line for automobiles. He

method is probably the easiest. All you have to do? Submit your name. NASA will

actually the closest ever a probe has gotten to a planet(or star). Other features of the
Parker Solar Probe is that it will go up to 430,000 mph as it moves around the sun.

How Arthur Conan Doyle Creates an Atmosphere of Mystery and Builds Suspense in
The Speckled Band
In many of Holmes adventures, Conan Doyle used a successful personal formula to
create mystery and build suspense, and The Speckled Band is no exception.
Watson begins the story by stating that he cannot recall any case that represented
more singular features than that of the one he is about to narrate. Despite this rather
impressive beginning, analysis of the other adventures reveals that this is the fairly
standard opening for Conan Doyle.
The reader then learns that The Speckled Band is about the assistance that Holmes
provided to a helpless young woman, by the name of Miss Helen ... Show more

In Miss Sutherland s case, her stepfather gets away his mischief as the law cannot

Helen Stoner then starts her story with only vague details of her dilemma. Her
lack of precision can be said to be deliberate on the part of the author as it gives rise
to questions like Why can t she stand the strain no longer ? How is she being
strained? Who is he who cares for her? Why has she aged so quickly? What is the
terror and fear that makes her shiver? Similarly, Arthur Conan Doyletakes focus to
comment on the clients weary and haggard expression rather than the actual case
so as to give as little mystery solving information as possible but still maintain the
readers interest through arousing their concern for Miss Stoner s situation. This

woman and help throw a little light through the dense darkness which surrounds
[her] . Miss Stoner s fears [that] are so vague, suspicions[that] depend entirely on

his deductive reasonings and observations. He uses this method in many; if not all of

some much boasting on myself, but if that s what it takes for this scholarship, I will.)
I am the prime candidate for this STEM Leadership scholarship for many reasons,
the greatest of which I would say is that I plan to study something at the heart of
STEM: cyber engineering. This major is the epitome of what STEM stands for;
technology is becoming more and more integrated into our daily lives and studying
this major will not only help me to stay up to date with the trends that will come
(and inevitably go), but will also give me the skills and knowledge to potentially
develop my own ideas into something that people can integrate into their everyday
lives. Studying this major also gives me the potential to bring my new knowledge
with me wherever I go and keep wherever I am in the current times. Now, I do not
by any means mean to belittle any of the other three fields in STEM because all ...

Levi Strauss woke up one day, not knowing that he would impact the world

Buttenheim, Germany. He has six siblings and he was the youngest. Growing up
in Germany for him was hard because he was Jewish. When Levi was sixteen, his
father passed away from a disease. This was the time where he moved to America.
After a few years, the Gold Rush came into play. He decided that it would be good

hard for everyone to get at least one pair. Soon he edited his pants once again and
started to use blue denim (Which are pronounced Genes in French but in English it

7 March 2012 Textual Analysis of A Streetcar Named Desire
Based on Tennessee William s A Streetcar Named Desire, Elia Kazan creates an
award winning movie that helps readers visualize Stanley s primal masculinity, the
inner torments of the Kowalski women and the clash of the other characters
problems which create a chaotic mess. Using stage directions in the play, William
hints that Blanche is not who she appears to be while the movie subtly sheds light
on Blanche s strange little habits that suggests a bigger issue. The movie also
censors many of the main themes in Williams play but makes up for it by having its
actors flawlessly portray the characters emotions, allowing the readers to see the ...

By showing his readers the downfall of depending on men, Tennessee Williamsis
sending out a clear message to women to stand up for themselves and to be
independent. In contrast, the movie supports independence by having Stella stand
up for her newborn baby and herself by leaving Stanley. Why the stark difference
you ask? Back in the 1950s, the rape scene was considered controversial and taboo so
the director Elia Kazan was forced to punish Stanley by having his wife leave him
at the end of the film. Even the slight suggestion of a rape scene necessitated
Stanley s punishment. Realistically, Stella would ve stayed with Stanley because
she had no support for herself or the baby. Blanche s and Stella s reliance on men
and inability to support themselves are used to illustrate the subliminal pressure for
women to follow society s norms. Women without men are seen as weak, and those
who break away from their rigid social classes are looked down upon. Since these
social norms have been instilled into Blanche, she believes that she has to have a
man fawn over her feet at all times. She realizes that she is aging and thus by
engaging in sexual trysts with men, she thinks that she is still wanted and that she
still has a place in society despite her current status. After the death of Allan

17. Reggae Music s Influence On American Culture
Reggae Music
Music itself is often times a strong indicator of a society s culture, history, and
beliefs. Sometimes however, when another group listens to one society s music they
also make connections to lyrics, sounds, and melodies that were put into the song.
This is very much the case with Reggae music as not only did it take off in Jamaica,
its country of origin, but the United States and parts of Europe as well. Jamaicans
viewed music as a way to pass down traditions and as a way to pass through
difficult times. Reggae music often times discusses the suffering of the Jamaican
people in its lyrics. Reggae developed from preceding styles of music like Ska and
Rocksteady and the name appears to translate differently depending on which ... Show

question that stuck out to me was how did the views of the other groups in America
effect how the Germans were accepted and viewed in the United States. Different
times and issues have changed how Germans were viewed in America, for example
both world wars and the following strong anti German stance. While these times of
strong emotion often change people s outlook, I would argue that the positive or
more neutral impression of German immigrants compared to other immigrant groups,
helped Germans settle in America. While times of strong emotion often change
people s outlook, German immigrants with their slightly positive or more neutral
stereotypes or ideas, helped Germans settle in America with fewer problems than
other immigrants.
In our class and in other media outlooks we have often seen the stereotypes that
immigrants are placed in and how these can be especially damaging in the move to
the United States. These immigrants are uprooting their old lives for a new world
and work. So it would have to be hard to get off the boat or ship and have all of
these expectations piled on top of a confusing new country with strange traditions.
Life was often hard in the United States and not quite what many immigrants
expected but breaking free of others stereotypes of their
22. About A Year Ago, I Participated In A Mock Trial In School.
About a year ago, I participated in a mock trial in school. A mock trial is meant to
imitate a real trial, taking place inside of a courtroom with a fake jury and judge
evaluating each side. However, different to a real trial, what is being judged on is
not based upon evidence. Instead, the things that were important were what each
side does with the evidence provided in the example case we were given and our
abilities to make our point clear. Both my small, five person class and another class
from a different school were performing in the mock trial. The students in my class
and the other class both had to act the parts of both an attorney and a witness, but
because of my small class, I had the parts of two attorneys and two witnesses.... Show

Discovering this frightened me. I know that for some people this would not have
been too big of a deal, but at the time I was struggling with just reading my papers
out loud in class. There was even a time during the semester where just reading a
passage from a book out loud made me so anxious that everything seemed blurry,
even when I was able to read the words clearly just moments before. But this time I
was going to be facing a much more daunting task, something I had never
experienced before. I had never really been one for acting or performing, and I did
not know much about the legal system either. To say I was nervous would have been
an understatement.
At the thought of standing up and performing in an actual courtroom, in front of a
judge, and being evaluated by a jury, I was horrified. I spent my time wondering
how I, someone who struggled to even read a passage to a small group of friends,
could do something like this? It seemed impossible to me. From how I saw it, there
was no way I could successfully speak up and be understood in this setting. While
some people may worry about not being able to do a good job or forgetting a few
lines, I thought there was no way I could perform at all. The way I saw it, the best
case scenario was that I would be able to talk, but I would have much

The thesis of C.E Mallet s article The Empress Theodora focuses upon trying to
vindicate Empress Theodora s reputation by examining evidence brought against her
by Procopius in his work Secret History. The structure of the argument entails the
author presenting evidence from historians of Byzantium (primarily using Procopius)
and contrasting them against accounts of records of Theodora s time as well as
findings of contemporary historians. Mallet presents accusations made by Procopius
in Secret History also referred to as Anecdotes and aims to either validate the claims
or prove them wrong through cross referencing other recorded findings about
Theodora. The context of this article focuses upon Empress Theodora. Empress

He references specific claims made by Procopius in Secret History and then to the

to support or refute the claims made against the Empress. By presenting the reader
with ample evidence he tries to validate the actions of Theodora, and analyze
instances where she may have not acted appropriately and abused her powerful
position as Empress. The research conducted by Mallet finds that in Procopius s
Secret History Theodora s private life is shoddily explained and in many instances
doesn t utilize facts that can be corroborated by any records of the time. He
suggests that the stories presented in Secret History of Theodora s life before
becoming empress are merely gossip and most likely based off rumors. Considering
no primary record survives of her life pre Empress Mallet suggests that one must

25. How Did Elie Wiesel Change His Life
Elie Wiesel experienced an unfortunate experience that changed his life, and he
used it to change the lives of others. He brutally went through the holocaust, and his
life was never the same. He went through so much at a young age, and lived to tell
the tale. Wiesel was born in Sighet, Romania, September 1928 (United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum). He had a mom, dad, two older sisters, and a
younger sister. His parents names were Sarah and Sholomo, and his older sisters
names were Hilda and Bea. He thought that his family was rich. They had more
money than some of the kids at his school, but it was barely enough to get by. He
felt bad that he had more money than the other kids, so he gave them food from
home. Unaware that he was giving away the food that was keeping him and his

Sholomo were moved to a concentration camp. It was some distance from Auschwitz
and they had to walk the whole way (Bos, Carol). When they arrived, Sholomo was
weak and starving. Sholomo passed away soon after they made it to the concentration

26. Media Consumption Of Media
The proliferation of media consumption in the digital age is an unspoken public
health crisis. While what it brings us is not without merit, the means by which we are
permitted to connect has transformed our relationship with the media into an abusive
one. The methods and channels by which we are allowed to consume mediahave been
constructed in such a fashion as to drive us towards unhealthy habits. We ve all
been placed in a collection of skinner boxes, most of us paying handsomely for the
privilege. There exists today in the world a grave and perilous danger, lurking
behind the limitless opportunity we ve presented to ourselves in what the media has
become. Without modern media we would be blind, but our modern habits allow us
to choose not to see humanity up close or in any way.
Almost every aspect of our American culture, from bacon and eggs at breakfast to
our engagement rituals to the holidays we celebrate, has been sewn into the fabric
of our lives by the media. Consumption of media has become a means unto itself,
an ouroboros like pattern from which we can find no respite or escape. We may
wish to totally extract ourselves from exposure to media directly but it is
impossible to avoid how it has soaked into our culture and even our daily habits
and rituals. Social norms are now rapidly adapting to the appropriate use of our
interface of infinite knowledge that may once and still be called a cell phone. Even
if we divorce ourselves from our phones we re still jumping

Things They Carried Essay Anything can change a person if they are not ready for
that change. The short story Sweetheart of The Song Tra Bong, in Things They
Carried, by Tim O Brien represents this by showing change in Mary Anne, who is a
character the reader probably would not expect to see in a book about the Vietnam
War. There are many parts show the change in her from the average high school girl
she used to be into a predatory killer, but there is only one reason for her change, and
that is the war itself. The changes Mary Anne goes through in this story stand out
very clear. In the beginning, the quote that introduces Mary Anne is, ...she was
seventeen years old, fresh out of Cleveland Heights Senior High. She had long white
legs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You can t feel like that anywhere else (O Brien 111). Mary Anne is inevitably
drawn to the other side the other side in this case being the Vietnam War itself. She
is not completely part of it yet but she sure is fascinated by it, and will be part of it
soon. She displays the danger of throwing away all separation between herself and
the war. She is at the point where she wants to become one with the war. However
towards the end of the story, Mary Ann becomes a completely different person.
This can be shown perfectly in the quote, She had crossed to the other side. She
was part of the land. She was wearing her culottes, her pink sweater, and a necklace
of human tongues. She was dangerous. She was ready for the kill (O Brien 116).
Going back to the Vietnam War and its effect on Mary Anne. At this point, it can
be seen that Mary Anne has completely crossed over. She has a necklace of human
tongues, which is crazy weird. However, Mary Anne is still wearing her culottes
and her pink sweater, the very pieces of clothing that made her appear so American
at the beginning of the story. The reason for Mary Anne s change is not because of
the Vietnamese or even Vietnam, even though it appeared to be at the beginning. It s
the war itself. The war is half Vietnamese and half American. A example that shows
Mary Anne going through her change is in the quote, Mary Anne made you think
about those girls back home, how clean and innocent they all are, how they ll never

Louise GlГјck s use of unambiguous language and familiar speech in her poem,
Dead End, allows the reader to better connect and relate to the words written on the

her life tending to a man whom she has no future with, hence the dead end . Although
her language may seem rather simplistic, her use of poetic devices such as rhyme

GlГјck s directness and simplicity throughout her poem, provides a sense of
familiarity which allows the readerto interpret the poem for themselves and associate
it with their own lives. GlГјck s, Dead End is a closed verse poem composed of one,
twelve line stanza. Although GlГјck s poem does not have a set meter, her use of
rhyme scheme, which consists of external rhymes, both hard and soft, compliments
her simplistic language choices and gives her poem a sense of rythem. GlГјck s
rhyme scheme forms an aabbccddeeff pattern, which along with her use of
enjambment, allows for a harmonious and continuous flow throughout the poem. Her
use of rhyme scheme throughout her poem, provides a sense of liveliness and

I have read the book The Coldest Winter Ever, by Sistah Souljah and I find the plot
of the book intriguing and life like because I actually do feel like I am the main
character in this book. I relate to the main character Winter because we are the same
age and we have experienced similar things. In one part of the book, Winter Santiaga
had to explain to us how being in a familywith drug dealers is hard to deal with. She
explains to us how her father, Ricky Santiaga spoiled her, her mom and her little
sisters. I can relate to that part because that s how my family was. Some of the
things that were mentioned in this book were adult like and had an adult tone and
that had caught my eye. All of the things she had to go through in this book made me
realize that life isn t what is seems. She had to go through with losing her motherand
father to the system. She had lost her sisters to foster care and then she had to go to

She had to go through all of that stuff because her father was a drug dealer. This
theme is important to this story because when she tried to visit her dad in the

money to put on her father s books to try to get him out. She said in the book that
even though she is by herself, her father always told her that she should be strong

33. Suicide Bombing Affects The World
Suicide bombing is a good tactic for terrorists, because it is only limited by the
terrorist group s imagination. The reason for this is because suicide bombing, can
be done in ways that can cause amazing effects on the local population in which the
attack happens. But the attack can also affect the world as a whole. Suicide attack
targets can vary greatly based on many factors including security, and fortifications.
Suicide bombings are not limited to only one gender, there have been both women
and men suicide bombers in the past. One of the best characteristics of suicide
bombing is that you are only limited by your imagination on how your attack can be
done. You can use a variety of methods and bomb technology to your advantage.
Some ideas of possible bomb technology could be a suicide vest that a person can
wear underneath their clothing and that cannot be found by metal detectors. Many
attempts at using suicide bombing within clothing have been failures however such
as the underwear bomber. Suicide bombing can also be done by using vehicles

The threats could cost the business customers and money which will reflect on the

make sure they are being upheld with monitoring and evaluation.
Accounts Receivable Controls
One of the main assets of an organization is the accounts receivable department. It is
a vital part of the organization. The information collected from start to the complete
of the accounts receivable cycle is important in making sure every step was
followed according to the proper procedures made by the organization. Setting up
new customers in the database system correctly is important when the credit and
billing process takes place. When customer orders are made on the customer s
account proper authorization is needed to safeguard unauthorized orders and the
ability to pay for good received (Louwers, Ramsay, Sinason, Strawser, 2007).
The separation of duties is significant to ensuring that not the same person is issuing
credit and billing the customer. Once the goods or services has been received and
verified for each customer the invoice can be printed. Distributing the monthly
statements for the customer accounts showing what activity was taken during the
month will help discover discrepancies if there are any made. The customer will
know if any unauthorized activity was made on the account and notify the

35. Theme Of Rage In The Thousand And One Nights
The Thousand and One Nights, is a frame tale, where there are stories within
stories, in which all the tales included have a connection. The overall frame of the
tale is the transformation of a good king to a tyrant, which was caused the
deception of his wife that invoked the King s anger by her infidelity. As the overall
tale continues, stories come into perspective and back up the main topic of the
story by using its own issues as examples. When reading the recurring theme in the
overall frame and the stories within the story is rage. There is a frequency in the
tales, in where an issue occurs then it enrages the subject, which causes a
consequence that affects the one at fault. Therefore, a lesson can be taken out of
the the tale as a form of knowledge and progression. Analyzation of the theme of
rage can be done throughout the frame tales of The Thousand and One Nights. The
Thousand and One Nights, is the story of King Shahrayar, where King Shahrayar

Persuasive Articles on Gun Control
Persuading an audience can be done in several different fashions, one of which is
Hugh Rank s Model of Persuasion. Rank s model states that two major strategies are
used to achieve the particular goal of persuasion. These strategies are nicely set into
two main schemas; the first method is to exaggerate an aspect of something, known
as intensify. While the second is to discredit it, which is referred to as downplay. Al
Franken, Jeffrey Snyder, Harlan Ellison, and George Will, have all written
persuasive articles about gun control. In reading all of the various articles on gun
control by authors, I found George F. Will s The Last Word to be the most
persuasive. Will wrote his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Franken was also able to downplay the usefulness of a firearm by including a series
of sarcastic tips for tragedy in a home. For example, 1. Keep the gun loaded... 2. Put
the gun in an unlocked drawer... 3. Rest assured. 1 Where Franken s article comes
up short is the use of hypothetical numbers to exaggerate and intensify the deadliness
of guns. His sarcasm adds diversity to his piece, but should be used sparingly.
Franken s conclusion causes his argument to lose its effectiveness, after building his
case it just seems ridiculous and out of place.
The least persuasive essay out of the four was Harlan Ellison s An Edge in My
Voice. Ellison presents his argument in a style that seems to me is more of a
disgruntled rambling about both famous and infamous people that die from gun shot,
than an article about gun control. Ellison spends the first few pages asking the reader
if they cried when a certain person died; he begins with famous people such as
Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, and John Lennon, and then moves on to more
obscure examples. Instead of trying to build an argument, Ellison seemed to be more
caught up with anger and the notion of conspiracies. He does however try to use the
intensify technique of Rank s model, to persuade the reader of the horror of deaths
caused by guns and their importance. Although Ellison did try to persuade his
audience in a different manor, I felt it was ineffective at best,
37. The Current Era Of Media
Introduction
In the current era of media is a step, a step towards innovation is very indispensable.
It marks an innovation in bringing human society to a new level, a civilized society,
development. That is a strong mark optimal development in all fields. This year is the
50th anniversary of Marshall McLuhan published learn about media. A statement
made by him that made many people to think that The medium is the message .
McLuhan clearly support the notion that media increases the desire and new
purposes. (Dekay, Sam H, 2014, page 51 52)
He said that media is an extension of the human body, it represents the development
so that we understood that the development is needed now, in order to adapt to
human needs the science and technology. Thus, the medium is the message to
emphasize that the use of communication tools have profoundly. (McLuhan, 1964,

38. Good Communication Is Effective Communication
Good communication is effective communication; it provides direction, a clear goal,
and encourages the flow of ideas. Successful communication is achieved through a
variety of methods, but most importantly, it begins with a foundation of security and
trust within the team. Successful Communication
Over the past few weeks my group has been using our group discussion board as our
primary method of communication. Since beginning our power point project we
have been posting updates, questions and simple check ins to see how each member
of the group is coming along with their portion of the PowerPoint assignment. Our
key to success has been because of our communication; this is especially important
because we are a virtual group. We touch base with each other regularly for multiple
reasons, the first being the need to establish a relationship.
In contrast to teams who meet face to face on a regular basis, we cannot pick up on
non verbal clues that are expressed through body language, nor are we able to
establish an emotional connection with one another; with that being said, we must
maintain regular contact in order to build a rapport. Secondly, regular communication
allowed us to report progress and drawbacks that may hinder our success. Moreover,
scheduling regular periods of communication enforced accountability by instituting
periodic milestones of progress.
In previous experiences I have had working in collaborative groups, in regard to the
importance of communication,

Nancy Farmer s novel, The House of the Scorpion, is set in the not too distant future
that is similar enough to our current world that it can be unsettling and eerie. It s like
the present but flipped upside down. The story walks us through places we know, but
are given different names, which throws the readerfor a loop. It s a bit uncanny to
think of places that are so familiar as different countries, with name like Opium and
Aztlan. As the reader travels through the story along with the characters, it becomes
clear that Nancy Farmerwanted her fictional world to resemble reality.
Further in the book, we come to learn that Opium is actually Arizona, the place that
Nancy Farmer was born. In the beginning of the novel, the readers are just as
confused as Matt, the main character, when it comes to the geography. Fortunately,
Matt comes across a book, A History of Opium, that informs both Matt and the
reader more about this new world: The MacGregors ruled the land near San Diego,
and the Alacrans had a vast empire stretching from central California all across
Arizona and into New Mexico. Gradually, Opium changes from no man s land to a
real country. And its supreme leader, dictator, and fuhrer was Matteo Alacran (169
170 Farmer). It also comes to our knowledge that Opium is a country ruled by drug
lords that is wedged in between the United States and Aztlan. It is also concluded
that Opium is a dry, desert like place. The only plant that grows there, aside from El

40. Witches And The Witch Trials
In Europe from the late fifteenth to early seventeenth centuries many people, both
men and women, were persecuted as witches. The reasons for the persecution of
individuals as witches included gender discrimination, religious fanaticism, an
explanation for the otherwise unexplainable events that took place, and even as a
way for secular officials to gain more wealth. Misogyny being a cause to the witch
trials may have resulted from the new roles of women in society conflicting with the
traditional views of women as sinful, and also accounts for why the majority of
individuals persecuted were women. A religious spark was ignited during the
Protestant Reformationas people became more religiously devoted and wanted to
eliminate threats to their faith, such as witches. Many strange occurrences such as
disease or even non harmful events that were simply unexplainable led people to
believe witches as the causes. Some people may have not even believed another
person to be a witch but may have just wanted wealth and that person s possessions
and declared them a witch for that reason. All these factors contributed to the period
now known as the witch craze, which resulted in the torture and death of many people.
One of the main factors in the persecution of witches comes from the men of the time
s misogynistic attitudes. During this time, women were beginning to take more
prominent roles in society, like the notable humanist Christine de Pizan or The First
Lady of the Renaissance,

NCAA, short for National Collegiate Athletic Association, is a non profit
organization which over watch all the athletic related activities on college level. In
the early 20th century, President Roosevelt created NCAA because he wanted to
insured college athletes from injuries and even deaths. Despite the original purpose
of the NCAA is not about money, it has become one of the most lucrative companies
in the USA. According to Taylor Branch, big time college sports are fully
commercialized. Billions of dollars flow through them each year. The NCAA makes
money, and enables universities and corporations to make money, from the unpaid
labor of young athletes (Branch). Besides the tremendous fortune these college
athletes made for the NCAA, it is also a vital source for university entertainment,
enrollment, and money. Although these athletes generate great fortune and put up
great shows for society, they do not receive proper pay back. To balance the current
unfair compensation system to the athletes, in addition to free tuition, college
athletes should be treated as workers in a business market system and paid
depending on their own performance. One of the biggest challenges paying college
athletes is the legal power of the term student athlete. When President Roosevelt
created the NCAA to protect young athletes, he also emphasized that the NCAA
would serve a secondary purpose in ensuring ―no student shall represent a college
or university in any intercollegiate game . .

for the toes. She mentioned they are called toe pads. Then she gave me a plastic
bag with four small, clear, jelly like things called toe spacers. She showed me that
the jelly like things go between my big toe and my second biggest toe. Then I put
the toe pads on my toes. I wiggled my toes to see how they felt. I wrinkled my nose.
They feel funny, That s because you haven t put on the pointes yet, she informs me.
I slipped on the pointe shoes. Oh, those perfectly perfect pointe shoes! I took a
deep breath. I have been waiting for this moment for so long, I thought, not
believing that it was actually happening. I duck walked to the ballet bar by the
mirror, so the pointe s didn t slip off my heel. Gripping the bar, I slowly raised onto
pointe, one foot at a time.
Mom, I m en pointe! I squeaked, shifting my weight in the shoes.
It felt amazing! Looking in the mirror, I knew that all my hard work had payed off.
As my dance teacher Ms. Kathy would say, we ballerinas bleed and sweat for our
art. The lady knelt down, and felt how the pointe shoes

Running head: ETHICAL DILEMMA: BRAIN DEATH
Ethical Dilemma: Brain Death
Mike Baker
University of Phoenix
Introduction
There has been an increase in the number of organs donated for transplantation since
the development and acceptance of brain death. (Guidelines for the determination of
death, 1981) The strict rules surrounding the diagnosis and the ability to develop
individualized Policy and Procedures in the determination of brain death has removed
the fear of law suite surrounding this definition of death. (Guidelines for the
determination of death, 1981)
Old vs. New

In this case AMH has requested the SWOB to responded and recover organs for
transplant. Once the brain death diagnosis is made the attending doctor does not have
any more contact with the patient. This prevents the conflict of interest question from
being raised.
The responding organ bank, as well as the centers that receive the organs for
transplant, provide on call doctors to assist in the recovery process. The hospital
however maintains control of the patient. This chain of command is for the
protection of all involved in the recovery and transplant process.
In this situation the organ bank was challenging the diagnosis of brain death made
by a member of the professional staff of AMH. Not only was there a challenge but
it was being made by some one other then a doctor. Only a doctor can pronounce a
patient dead. So here was another dilemma in that there was a challenge to the
doctor s diagnosis being made by a nurse. This in it self goes against the State
Nursing Rules for licensure. Nurses are not allowed to diagnosis nor practice
medicine.
The transplant coordinator nurse needed the support of the organ bank s medical
staff. The organ bank s medical staff was not on scene and thus had to take the word
of the transplant coordinator.
In this case the transplant coordinator could have just continued with the recovery
and not said anything. The coordinator could have

During the eighteen hundreds how did the simple transportation device of steamboats
affect the political makeup in the United States government? Throughout the
nineteenth and early twentieth centuries the use of steamboats grew heavily
throughout the nation of the United States, as well as world wide. During this time
the United Stateswas in desperate need of a new sufficient source of transportation, the
steamboatallowed a large expansion of the growing nation, through its many natural
waterways, as well as man made canals that were soon constructed. Serving as a great
tool for businesses and the development of the United States economically and
socially, these vessels also contributed to the evolution of the government and its...

It is believed by many people that Robert Fulton was the first to invent the
steamboat, although he was truly the one to create the first competent vessel,
designed and created well enough to make decent voyages, including fighting
currents. In the oncoming future, there were still plenty of modifications to be
made, but Fulton along with Robert R. Livingston brought their new steam ship
plans to the United States from France; after Livingston obtained a New York state
steam boat monopoly, in hope to control the water ways of one of the largest ports
of the time. In 1798 Livingston received this monopoly allowing him the exclusive
ability of navigating all boats that might be propelled by steam, on all waters within
the territory, or jurisdiction of the State, for the term of twenty years. Not only did
this act give Fulton and Livingston the complete control of navigating the waters of
New York State but the ability to also seize any other vessel operated by others with
out the license that only these two men could distribute as well as the collecting of a
fine for the penalty of operating a vessel against the law. The partnership and
monopolistic control of Livingston and Fulton began on the maiden voyage of their
one hundred and fifty foot steamship known as the Clermont on August 18, 1807. It
was an immediate success as the partners were not only able to meet their
expectations of completing

Agile Software Solution Supporting Cross Organizational Business Transactions
Introduction/ Background The number of organizations that automate cross
organizational business transactions is rapidly expanding. Malone (2001:104)
indicates the relentless march of improvements in the cost performance ratio of in
formation technology as main driver of this development . Porter (2001) mention that
the benefits of performing transactions electronically include extending market reach,
saving time, cutting costs and responding to customer queries more agilely . Media
enterprises feel the increasing pressure to establish inexpensive agile software
solutions for data and information interchange. Since broadcasting organisations in

implement efficient and reliable data integration solutions. Research Methodology An
early and often cited paper by Adrion (1993, cited in Flint 2009, p. 229 230) presents
engineering method as one of software engineering research method. It is necessary
to utilize engineering method in this study in order to observe existing solutions,
propose better solutions, build or develop, measure and analyse, and repeat until no
further improvements are possible. Data Collection Technique The purpose of this
study is to improve interoperability between SABC and multichoice. The best data
collection technique for this study is observation. In this study will observe the
existing solution utilized by SABC for information
46. Battling the Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona
While dangerous work like firefighting often requires decisive and quick action
against one of nature s most destructive elements, do the inherent risks of
firefighting justify risky decision making by officials? In this dangerous and often
daring line of work, when is the line between protecting the public and protecting
public employees crossed and who is responsible when that line is crossed?
On June 30, 2013, 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, an Interagency
Hotshot Crew (IHC) of 20 elite firefighters, lost their lives battling the Yarnell Hill
Fire near Yarnell, Arizona. An initial investigation conducted by the Arizona State
Forestry Division (ASFD) found some communication problems but overall declared
the Yarnell Hill Fire a no fault tragedy, focusing largely on the actions of the Granite
Mountain Hotshots who, according to the investigation, made an unknown and last
minute decision to move from a safety zone to an area closer to the wildfire (leading
to their deaths).
However, several months later, another investigation conducted by the Arizona
Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) declared the ASFD
responsible for the deaths of the 19 firefighters. ADOSH admonished the ASFD for
putting the value of property above people and fined the ASFD $559,000 for three
violations per В§ A.R.S. 23 403(A). An explanation has also been given for why the
Granite Mountain Hotshots moved from their safety zone: The firefighters were
asked if they could
