ASK THE AUDIENCE: Who here is using crowdfunding?
Why/What is Crowd Funding –
History & evolution of Crowd Funding
1997: The Inception of Modern Day Crowdfunding. The first recorded successful instance of crowdfunding occurred in 1997, when a British rock band called Marillon funded their reunion tour through online donations from fans, who were eager for them to come on tour in the United States.
2008: The Great Recession. The collapse of the housing market and the financial industry in 2008 led to people being forced to seek funding by alternative means. As traditional banking institutions were no longer able or willing to provide the same loans as they were in the past, people turned to the internet — and to each other.
2009 – 2015 : Crowdfunding Emerges as a Major Funding Source. The launch of Kickstarter and IndieGoGo led to an explosion of niche crowdfunding platforms. The crowdfunding industry has quickly emerged as a popular option for entrepreneurs to validate their ideas, gain exposure, and gain funding.
2012: Crowdfunding Gains Washington’s Support. In April of 2012, President Barack Obama signed the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act into law.

Showcase the Cause: -Millennials value meaningful connections and are more likely to give when moved by an authentic story. -more driven by belief in a cause rather than a specific organization > important to tap into emotion to get engagement Tip: Tell personal stories, share pictures, and feature individuals who have benefited from your services. 2) Cater to New Age: 90% of millennials are on social media and mobile usage is increasing exponentially-grew up with Facebook, Snapchat, Smartphones-not only for Millennials (although they’re clearly even more entrenched in the digital world) but the average adult spends 6hrs on their phone each day-65% of donors on CrowdChange are accessing the site either through their iPhone or Android devicesTip: (1) Ensure your messaging is succinct > over 50% of emails are opened on mobile device, remember the screen is small -keep messaging simple w/ less text & pictures and more hyperlinks they can click on for additional info(2) Ensure all components of campaigns are optimized for social media shareability & mobile devicesPost Event Stewardship: Millennials are very results-driven -Tip: Help millennial donors follow their money by sending regular updates about your fundraising campaign’s goal and progress. Tip: Form an impact story with testimonials and photos to show how donations went to a specific project > make sure this video is caters to the New Age
