5 Environmental Problems
Deforestation Deforestation is the eradication of a forest for urbanization or other metropolitan development purposes. Forest Ecosystems have been degraded for many years due to economic advantages which make the conversion seem more important for profitable purposes rather than forest conservation. Forest loss in the Philippines causes soil erosion, which threatens the country’s rich biodiversity. The forest loss also brings about worry for the people due to the endangering number of species which truly depend on these forests.
Deforestation Causes Effects Trees being used to build materials such as furniture and paper products. Soil erosion Forests are being cleared for urbanization purposes such as the building of residential areas. Disruption of the water cycle Conversion to agricultural lands. Floods and drought
Pollution Pollution is the introduction of contaminants in the natural environment which brings about imbalance, disorder, damage, as well as discomfort to the ecosystem and the communities in it. It takes the form of chemical substances or energy, such as heat, light, or noise. Foreign substances or energies, are the elements of pollution which are called pollutants. There are several types of pollution. One of these is Water Pollution. Water Pollution is the contamination of bodies of water. This occurs when pollutants are released both directly and indirectly into the water without the necessary treatment to remove harmful compounds.
Pollution Causes Effects Increase in Urbanization Extermination of Wild Life Increase in Domestic Wastes Destruction of the vegetation that provides food and shelter Industrial activities Disruption of natural cycles
Overfishing and Destructive Fishing Overfishing is when the number of fish caught is more than the capability of the remaining population to reproduce enough of the species and replace the lost ones. Or in other words, overfishing is a rate of fishing mortality that jeopardizes a fishery’s capacity to produce maximum sustainable yield on a continuing basis.
Overfishing and Destructive Fishing Causes Effects Increase in consumer demands Depletion or extinction of fish populations Economic Incentives for Fishing loss of valuable food source for social, economical, or dietary reasons Increase in export Overall ecological unity of marine ecosystems are at risk of collapse
Habitat Destruction Habitat Destruction is the process wherein natural habitat is rendered functionally unable to support the species present. Organisms which are previously in the site are displaced and destroyed, thus reducing biodiversity.
Habitat Destruction Causes Effects Natural causes such as volcanism, fire, as well as climate change. Increases an areas vulnerability to natural disasters Conversion of land to agriculture Disruption of natural cycles that contribute to climate change Infrastructure Development Ecotourism drops
Smog Smog is a type of air pollution that comes from internal combustion engines, vehicular emission, and industrial fumes that react in the atmosphere with sunglight to form secondary pollutatns. Smog causes smoky dark atmosphere to arise over cities.
Smog Causes Effects Automobile Exhaust Health Problems Power Plant Emissions Increase the effect of greenhouse gases Charcoal Starter Fluid Property Damge
