Appealing To Their Audience.
Vogue Magazine Target Audience.
The target audience for V

that they are advertising and showing are brands and labels which are costly. Vogue has

Images.

The publisher has used images to appeal by the audience by
making the model of the front cover a very high contrast
compared to the background. The clothes on the model stand
out by they being very bright colours that stand out in front of
the plain white background. A very attractive model is used so
women want to
Inspire to look like that and it makes women think that if they
wear clothes like this they will look as good as the model. The
bright colours give a positive aspect to the image and engages
the audience to look at more fashion in the magazine. It has
one image on the front being the only image which makes it
stand out more. So your eyes are dedicated to looking at one
image.

Vogue uses celebrity endorsement to attract their readers into
wanting to read their magazine. The women will see the
celebrities as idols in they will want to see what there wearing
and read about what they are doing. For example in this vogue
issue Anna Hathaway is featured on the cover which attracts
Film fans of Anne Hathaway to read the magazine.
The same things occurs within the pages of the
magazine. The Images are high contrast to stand
out to the audience and they are linked with what
the text says so we can understand the text
visually. A loop is placed on the page which
emphasizes the title of the page ‘How to stay in
the style loop’ Visually you can picture the hoop
and the different styles around it. This attracts the
audience to the image as its bold and colorful. If
they see the image first this may make them to
read the text around the image. The images are
unique and different to make the magazine
interesting to the audience and shows that they
are a fresh and original magazine.
Words

The words on the front of the cover page stand
out and are in a clear bold font which is printed.
The words on the page are linked to articles in
the magazine which will most attract women to
want to read/buy the magazine. The topics on
the front appeal to the target audience they use
words that appeal to the target audience to for
example ‘Show stopping Spring Fashion’ this is
very bold and big which shows that the magazine
is a fashion magazine. The Pink writing
emphasizes the hair on the model. The celebrity
endorsement in this magazine is Lady GaGa this
is show in big bold writing and the pink reflects
Lady GaGa’s hair. The main words the the
magazine want the target audience to see first are
made clearly and boldly so they stand out.
The magazine inside also follows the same
concepts. The Words in which the magazine
want the audience to see first are presented
badly and big in a very contrasting colour for
example ‘FLASH’ this is in a very bold font and
is in the colour red which is the only red on that
page. Your eyes instantly hit the Flash as soon as
you look at the page. The words start to get
smaller and smaller the more unimportant they
are. They text before the article is there to draw
the reader to the article. Its in bold writing and
is in black to make it stand out against the white
background.
Colours

The colour scheme on the cover of this issue of vogue are
autumn colours such as dark reds, plums, orange and
burgundy’s. This links with the words of ‘Must-Have Fall
looks’ this attracts the target audience because it shows
them what the fall fashion is. Emma Watson is dressed in
fall colours which reflects the fall issue. The colours appeal
to the audience because they emphasize the fall issue.
They are very sophisticated and warm. The colour of The
‘VOGUE’ is the same kind of colour to Emma’s lips. They
are bright to attract the target audience. They are feminine
colours which show women that these are the kind of
colours they could be wearing. The cover reflects the
colours in fashion at the time.

Inside of the magazine follows the same aspects.
The colours are golden and rusty which link with
the autumn fall traditional colours. The one image
on this page includes the deep plum lipstick
linking to the vogue title and a gold jacket with is
unique and bright that catches the target audiences
eye.
Font

The fonts used on the front cover are sans serif fonts, this
causes the font to have flicked edges and look very
feminine and sophisticated, I also find these fonts to be
more a female, as I find these fonts myself appealing which
shows that the fonts used are more appealing to their target
audience. The magazine also changed the fonts numerous
times throughout the front cover, you can see at least 4
different types of font.

The font in the magazine itself is sans serif, a typically more
feminine font as its tilted and its fancy and it the same font
throughout the articles, apart from when the text is
introducing the piece of writing or article, this piece is larger
and a more clear and straight forward looking font than the
smaller more elegant looking font below it.
The layout of the front cover shows supermodel stood in
the centre of the page this causes the reader to look
straight at the supermodel and this makes her centre of
attention at first glance.. The text is then places around the
image of her, her head is also replacing a letter in the
middle of the word VOGUE. Vogue is such a popular
magazine that we do not need to see every letter to know
what magazine it is and this proposes that. The pose
supermodel is doing is also a typical model pose, which is
setting out the theme of the issues main article for the
reader. The text is placed messily around the image as
well, this make the magazine cover look a little relaxed,.
This makes it not as formal and more fun and girly to
read.

Within the magazine, the layout is again messy
looking and relaxed. The style is continuously
used across this page. Having images in the
middle of the text, it breaks up the seeming
large amount of text for the reader. The main
image of the page is not central, but at the top
right hand corner its very bright and a block
colour to catch the audiences eye. Most of the
text is on the right hand side which shows this is
the main body text. The left hand side shows
that the text on that side isn't as important as it
is mainly pictures with not much text.
Captions

The captions on the front page of Vogue tells you
what this issue of Vogue contains. The captions are
in a bold font to catch the readers eye. The is
massive competition in this market of fashion
magazines so the better the caption draws in more
readers into wanting to buy the magazine. The
Caption goes with the picture as it tells you who
the girl on the front is ‘Kate Moss’ then just tells
you a little bit about what the article is about
‘Beach chick on holiday’. The captions
demonstrate the vibe for the issue the main caption
is ‘Sensational SUMMER’ this shows that this issue
of Vogue is summer orientated.

The captions on this page inside Vogue magazine appeal to the
audience because they stand out from the pictures. They caption ‘Fierce
footwear grand finale’ is in contrasting colours and is situated on a red
background to draw the reader to it. The main captions show what the
page is about as the word ‘foot’ is consistently used this shows that this
page is focusing on the foot wear of the celebrities. The pictures which
the magazine want to public to find the most appealing have a caption
with a red background on so the audience reads this caption before
reading the smaller black captions.
Anchorage
The anchorage shown in the front cover of Vogue is the phrase
‘couture’ this piece of text gives meaning to the image. The image
itself is the model/celebrity Keria Knightley, posing and wearing a
very glam outfit which fits to the text underneath ‘fantasy’ , by
adding the text it ensures that the reader knows it is an issue which
focuses on fantasy couture rather than more day to day fashion.
Without the text the reader doesn’t fully know what the image
means, so the text gives the image meaning. The headlines are placed
around the picture to make the picture centre of attention. Then the
text on Keria Knightley mentions ‘coming of age’ this shows the
reader why also she is wearing a very sophisticated dress. To
emphasise why she is wearing lipstick the words ‘lipstick is back’ is
located next to her face. This appeals to readers as they will be
inspired by a celebrity wearing the lipstick and they will want to
copy.
The anchorage on this page is the article is about work
style for interns. The pictures anchors the text by
showing the style in which the text is explaining. The
images are complimenting the text by making it less
dull to read and to give readers a visual element. The
text is situated next to the text and the text explain the
kind of style to go for. The pictures are then placed
around to show what the text is talking about and
showing the audience the look to go for this is
appealing to the audience because it shows a style for
the audience to hunt for when finding outfits and gives
them a vision to copy from.
Codes and Conventions
Colour Scheme.
The main colour scheme on this front cover are
burgundy, orange and white. They are the three main
colours which stand out the most on the cover, the
background is plain white which help the attractive
colours pop more. The colour used are autumn/fall
colours, which also tie in with the main title ‘autumn ’.

The colour scheme continues inside
with having the same kind of
orange/gold autumn colours
following a fall trend tailored inside.
It stands out from a contrasting
background and foreground.
Codes and Conventions
Photography
The photography on the front cover of the magazine is a
high quality photograph which is attractive to the target
audience. The type of audience that buy this product
expect a certain level of professionalism from the images,
The celebrity on the front is photographed in a way to
make her look very professional and beautiful to the target
audience. This is appealing to the target audience as they
will see this women as a role model and the photography
makes her look very goddess like. By the writing and the
magazine it allows the audience know that Vogue have
taken these images especially for this issue.

The high standard photography also continues
inside the pages of the magazine. To keep
Vogue up to a high level of professionalism.
Having attract images is attractive to the target
market. As the images are a min thing they look
at within that page. High quality images link with
the high fashion aspect of this magazine which
higher women will be attracted to.
Codes and conventions
Writing style and language
The writing style of this magazine is quite formal and
well spoken. As the writing style is suppose to sound
and be spoken like how the reader would speak
considering the target audience are higher class women
the writing style is very up class compared to a
magazine like ‘take a break’. The vocabulary used
reflects how the target audience would read, as the
target audience is a 34 year old women, the words used
will be more mature sounding For example, the
language in the article is very straight forward and
specific and direct to the reader, by saying ‘you are’,
‘you want’. The cover of the magazine is also straight
forward and shows what the magazine is all about.
The articles within the magazine vary in how formal or
how relaxed they are, The writing style can be a serious
article which may be a double spread on a celebrity,
whereas other can be very little with pictures and
captions explain images to expand on the text.

This shows the well formal
language used.
Codes and Conventions
Text and picture ratio.
On the front cover, the image is much larger than the
text, this makes it centre of attention .It features one
main image and lots of small blocked text. This is
conventional for most magazines as the audience
wouldn’t be attracted to a magazine cover that was
covered in text, therefore putting a bright and
interesting image in the centre of the page is drawing
the reader in.

There is a very equal text/image ratio as for each
image there is a part of text that goes with this. The
pictures stand out a lot more to attract you to the
page. Although they seems to be lots of text the
images brakes this up to keep it appealing and fun to
the audience to read.
Codes and Conventions
Fonts
The front cover uses sans serif font this makes them a
lot more feminine and are more appealing to that target
audience they have flicked edges which is trendy style
font to go for. The magazine also changed the fonts
numerous times throughout the front cover, you can
see at least 4 different types of font. The articles use a
sans serif font thought the magazine but on some pages
a more funkier and out there font is used to grab the
readers attention. For example ‘ FLASH’ and ‘ In Paris’
use totally different fonts to make them stand out to the
audience compared to just the normal article. The font
is also very personalised on the front cover, the change
in the font types are attractive on the eye. Within the
magazine the text is easy to read and simple, which is
typical for magazine. They will also bold out and italic
main features of the page, for example VOGUE itself is
in thick black large lettering at the top of the page.
Codes and Conventions
Modes of address
The front cover doe not necessarily talk straight to the
audience it doesn't need to say ‘you’ and ‘your’ but
because of the knowledge behind the kind of
magazine that is you know that it is ‘talking to you’
and not ‘reporting to you’. This is very important when
it comes to the conventions of Vogue magazine because
of the target audience. It makes them feel closer and
have a more personal relationship with that magazine
which allows them to want to buy it as they trust the
magazine and are very familiar with it.

The pages of the magazine carry on the personal touch
and the writing is direct to the reader, saying ‘you
need’ and ‘do you want to..’ this is making the reader
think that the writers are talking directly to them, and
not just reporting the facts to them.
Audience Reception
Magazines must get audience feedback from their product to ensure that its the product they
wanted to create. There is no guarantee that the audience will like the magazine, do they must test
the product first.
There are many ways that you can get feedback from an audience on your product, these include:
•Focus groups
•Audience panels
•Trailing
•Complaints
• Audience reception
Audience panels

Focus groups

This is when a group of people are asked about the
magazine regularly, giving their feedback each time. This
can be over a long period of time, for example the same
date every few months or year. The same people must be
asked each time, as their feedback might change or stay
the same.

This is when a group of people, varying in
ages and gender view the magazine and
give feedback. Their responses will be
recorded some how and used to further
the design of the product.

Trailing
New products are often realised in a
trial basis first. This allows the
audience response to taken in and
allows for any necessary changes to
be made.

Complaints

Direct feedback form the audience, in terms of
complaints, are another good way of testing the
reaction to changes. Social media allows the readers
to give feedback to the producers in a variety of
ways.

Audience Reception
When the magazine gains the feedback by either focus
groups, trailing, audience panels or complaints, it can
then alter its magazine accordingly.

  • 3. Images. The publisher has used images to appeal by the audience by making the model of the front cover a very high contrast compared to the background. The clothes on the model stand out by they being very bright colours that stand out in front of the plain white background. A very attractive model is used so women want to Inspire to look like that and it makes women think that if they wear clothes like this they will look as good as the model. The bright colours give a positive aspect to the image and engages the audience to look at more fashion in the magazine. It has one image on the front being the only image which makes it stand out more. So your eyes are dedicated to looking at one image. Vogue uses celebrity endorsement to attract their readers into wanting to read their magazine. The women will see the celebrities as idols in they will want to see what there wearing and read about what they are doing. For example in this vogue issue Anna Hathaway is featured on the cover which attracts Film fans of Anne Hathaway to read the magazine.
  • 4. The same things occurs within the pages of the magazine. The Images are high contrast to stand out to the audience and they are linked with what the text says so we can understand the text visually. A loop is placed on the page which emphasizes the title of the page ‘How to stay in the style loop’ Visually you can picture the hoop and the different styles around it. This attracts the audience to the image as its bold and colorful. If they see the image first this may make them to read the text around the image. The images are unique and different to make the magazine interesting to the audience and shows that they are a fresh and original magazine.
  • 5. Words The words on the front of the cover page stand out and are in a clear bold font which is printed. The words on the page are linked to articles in the magazine which will most attract women to want to read/buy the magazine. The topics on the front appeal to the target audience they use words that appeal to the target audience to for example ‘Show stopping Spring Fashion’ this is very bold and big which shows that the magazine is a fashion magazine. The Pink writing emphasizes the hair on the model. The celebrity endorsement in this magazine is Lady GaGa this is show in big bold writing and the pink reflects Lady GaGa’s hair. The main words the the magazine want the target audience to see first are made clearly and boldly so they stand out.
  • 6. The magazine inside also follows the same concepts. The Words in which the magazine want the audience to see first are presented badly and big in a very contrasting colour for example ‘FLASH’ this is in a very bold font and is in the colour red which is the only red on that page. Your eyes instantly hit the Flash as soon as you look at the page. The words start to get smaller and smaller the more unimportant they are. They text before the article is there to draw the reader to the article. Its in bold writing and is in black to make it stand out against the white background.
  • 7. Colours The colour scheme on the cover of this issue of vogue are autumn colours such as dark reds, plums, orange and burgundy’s. This links with the words of ‘Must-Have Fall looks’ this attracts the target audience because it shows them what the fall fashion is. Emma Watson is dressed in fall colours which reflects the fall issue. The colours appeal to the audience because they emphasize the fall issue. They are very sophisticated and warm. The colour of The ‘VOGUE’ is the same kind of colour to Emma’s lips. They are bright to attract the target audience. They are feminine colours which show women that these are the kind of colours they could be wearing. The cover reflects the colours in fashion at the time. Inside of the magazine follows the same aspects. The colours are golden and rusty which link with the autumn fall traditional colours. The one image on this page includes the deep plum lipstick linking to the vogue title and a gold jacket with is unique and bright that catches the target audiences eye.
  • 8. Font The fonts used on the front cover are sans serif fonts, this causes the font to have flicked edges and look very feminine and sophisticated, I also find these fonts to be more a female, as I find these fonts myself appealing which shows that the fonts used are more appealing to their target audience. The magazine also changed the fonts numerous times throughout the front cover, you can see at least 4 different types of font. The font in the magazine itself is sans serif, a typically more feminine font as its tilted and its fancy and it the same font throughout the articles, apart from when the text is introducing the piece of writing or article, this piece is larger and a more clear and straight forward looking font than the smaller more elegant looking font below it.
  • 9. The layout of the front cover shows supermodel stood in the centre of the page this causes the reader to look straight at the supermodel and this makes her centre of attention at first glance.. The text is then places around the image of her, her head is also replacing a letter in the middle of the word VOGUE. Vogue is such a popular magazine that we do not need to see every letter to know what magazine it is and this proposes that. The pose supermodel is doing is also a typical model pose, which is setting out the theme of the issues main article for the reader. The text is placed messily around the image as well, this make the magazine cover look a little relaxed,. This makes it not as formal and more fun and girly to read. Within the magazine, the layout is again messy looking and relaxed. The style is continuously used across this page. Having images in the middle of the text, it breaks up the seeming large amount of text for the reader. The main image of the page is not central, but at the top right hand corner its very bright and a block colour to catch the audiences eye. Most of the text is on the right hand side which shows this is the main body text. The left hand side shows that the text on that side isn't as important as it is mainly pictures with not much text.
  • 10. Captions The captions on the front page of Vogue tells you what this issue of Vogue contains. The captions are in a bold font to catch the readers eye. The is massive competition in this market of fashion magazines so the better the caption draws in more readers into wanting to buy the magazine. The Caption goes with the picture as it tells you who the girl on the front is ‘Kate Moss’ then just tells you a little bit about what the article is about ‘Beach chick on holiday’. The captions demonstrate the vibe for the issue the main caption is ‘Sensational SUMMER’ this shows that this issue of Vogue is summer orientated. The captions on this page inside Vogue magazine appeal to the audience because they stand out from the pictures. They caption ‘Fierce footwear grand finale’ is in contrasting colours and is situated on a red background to draw the reader to it. The main captions show what the page is about as the word ‘foot’ is consistently used this shows that this page is focusing on the foot wear of the celebrities. The pictures which the magazine want to public to find the most appealing have a caption with a red background on so the audience reads this caption before reading the smaller black captions.
  • 11. Anchorage The anchorage shown in the front cover of Vogue is the phrase ‘couture’ this piece of text gives meaning to the image. The image itself is the model/celebrity Keria Knightley, posing and wearing a very glam outfit which fits to the text underneath ‘fantasy’ , by adding the text it ensures that the reader knows it is an issue which focuses on fantasy couture rather than more day to day fashion. Without the text the reader doesn’t fully know what the image means, so the text gives the image meaning. The headlines are placed around the picture to make the picture centre of attention. Then the text on Keria Knightley mentions ‘coming of age’ this shows the reader why also she is wearing a very sophisticated dress. To emphasise why she is wearing lipstick the words ‘lipstick is back’ is located next to her face. This appeals to readers as they will be inspired by a celebrity wearing the lipstick and they will want to copy. The anchorage on this page is the article is about work style for interns. The pictures anchors the text by showing the style in which the text is explaining. The images are complimenting the text by making it less dull to read and to give readers a visual element. The text is situated next to the text and the text explain the kind of style to go for. The pictures are then placed around to show what the text is talking about and showing the audience the look to go for this is appealing to the audience because it shows a style for the audience to hunt for when finding outfits and gives them a vision to copy from.
  • 12. Codes and Conventions Colour Scheme. The main colour scheme on this front cover are burgundy, orange and white. They are the three main colours which stand out the most on the cover, the background is plain white which help the attractive colours pop more. The colour used are autumn/fall colours, which also tie in with the main title ‘autumn ’. The colour scheme continues inside with having the same kind of orange/gold autumn colours following a fall trend tailored inside. It stands out from a contrasting background and foreground.
  • 13. Codes and Conventions Photography The photography on the front cover of the magazine is a high quality photograph which is attractive to the target audience. The type of audience that buy this product expect a certain level of professionalism from the images, The celebrity on the front is photographed in a way to make her look very professional and beautiful to the target audience. This is appealing to the target audience as they will see this women as a role model and the photography makes her look very goddess like. By the writing and the magazine it allows the audience know that Vogue have taken these images especially for this issue. The high standard photography also continues inside the pages of the magazine. To keep Vogue up to a high level of professionalism. Having attract images is attractive to the target market. As the images are a min thing they look at within that page. High quality images link with the high fashion aspect of this magazine which higher women will be attracted to.
  • 14. Codes and conventions Writing style and language The writing style of this magazine is quite formal and well spoken. As the writing style is suppose to sound and be spoken like how the reader would speak considering the target audience are higher class women the writing style is very up class compared to a magazine like ‘take a break’. The vocabulary used reflects how the target audience would read, as the target audience is a 34 year old women, the words used will be more mature sounding For example, the language in the article is very straight forward and specific and direct to the reader, by saying ‘you are’, ‘you want’. The cover of the magazine is also straight forward and shows what the magazine is all about. The articles within the magazine vary in how formal or how relaxed they are, The writing style can be a serious article which may be a double spread on a celebrity, whereas other can be very little with pictures and captions explain images to expand on the text. This shows the well formal language used.
  • 15. Codes and Conventions Text and picture ratio. On the front cover, the image is much larger than the text, this makes it centre of attention .It features one main image and lots of small blocked text. This is conventional for most magazines as the audience wouldn’t be attracted to a magazine cover that was covered in text, therefore putting a bright and interesting image in the centre of the page is drawing the reader in. There is a very equal text/image ratio as for each image there is a part of text that goes with this. The pictures stand out a lot more to attract you to the page. Although they seems to be lots of text the images brakes this up to keep it appealing and fun to the audience to read.
  • 16. Codes and Conventions Fonts The front cover uses sans serif font this makes them a lot more feminine and are more appealing to that target audience they have flicked edges which is trendy style font to go for. The magazine also changed the fonts numerous times throughout the front cover, you can see at least 4 different types of font. The articles use a sans serif font thought the magazine but on some pages a more funkier and out there font is used to grab the readers attention. For example ‘ FLASH’ and ‘ In Paris’ use totally different fonts to make them stand out to the audience compared to just the normal article. The font is also very personalised on the front cover, the change in the font types are attractive on the eye. Within the magazine the text is easy to read and simple, which is typical for magazine. They will also bold out and italic main features of the page, for example VOGUE itself is in thick black large lettering at the top of the page.
  • 17. Codes and Conventions Modes of address The front cover doe not necessarily talk straight to the audience it doesn't need to say ‘you’ and ‘your’ but because of the knowledge behind the kind of magazine that is you know that it is ‘talking to you’ and not ‘reporting to you’. This is very important when it comes to the conventions of Vogue magazine because of the target audience. It makes them feel closer and have a more personal relationship with that magazine which allows them to want to buy it as they trust the magazine and are very familiar with it. The pages of the magazine carry on the personal touch and the writing is direct to the reader, saying ‘you need’ and ‘do you want to..’ this is making the reader think that the writers are talking directly to them, and not just reporting the facts to them.
  • 18. Audience Reception Magazines must get audience feedback from their product to ensure that its the product they wanted to create. There is no guarantee that the audience will like the magazine, do they must test the product first. There are many ways that you can get feedback from an audience on your product, these include: •Focus groups •Audience panels •Trailing •Complaints • Audience reception
  • 19. Audience panels Focus groups This is when a group of people are asked about the magazine regularly, giving their feedback each time. This can be over a long period of time, for example the same date every few months or year. The same people must be asked each time, as their feedback might change or stay the same. This is when a group of people, varying in ages and gender view the magazine and give feedback. Their responses will be recorded some how and used to further the design of the product. Trailing New products are often realised in a trial basis first. This allows the audience response to taken in and allows for any necessary changes to be made. Complaints Direct feedback form the audience, in terms of complaints, are another good way of testing the reaction to changes. Social media allows the readers to give feedback to the producers in a variety of ways.
