2. Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Research Paper
WASHINGTON, D.C. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall has often been called a healing
wall, and for some, it helped them find some closure an their time fighting in an unpopular war.
A group of 24 veterans from three years, 13 of them from the Vietnam War, traveled from Shreve
to Washington, D.C., as part of an Honor Bus Trip to see the military memorials on a three day
trip, returning Sunday night. For Roger Pennell, an Air Force veteran and commander of the
American Legion Post in Shreve, it was his first chance to see the wall. The visit for him was
impactful. Over the years, he has tried to forget what happened in the war and put everything out of
his mind. What happened during the war is what motivates him today to do as much as he can for

Bobby Angle, Millersburg, said when he was in Vietnam, the American Red Cross came to get
him because his father was ill at home. When he arrived in Oakland, Calif., there was a problem
getting him a seat on an airplane. Eventually, they found a seat for him. Cliff Shamp also had
troubles in Oakland. Fences were erected to keep protesters from throwing rocks, bricks and
bottles at the soldiers coming home. Larry Wachtel, an Army veteran from Wooster, went to look
up his former classmate s name on the wall, Jerry Spitler. The Shreve resident was serving as a
corporal in Vietnam when he was killed July 12, 1967, seven months to the day after his tour
began. This was the second time visiting the wall for Don Huebner, Millersburg, who served in the
Army. The first time was in the late 1990s. The difference was people were protesting the Vietnam

3. The Characters Of Alike In SophoclesAntigone
Richard Hall, a semi famous musician and photographer, once said, Whenever I ve had success,
I never learn from it. Success usually breeds a degree of hubris. When you fail, that s when you
learn. Hall indicates that excessive pride and stubbornness can teach you nothing, but being
humble and open to new ideas can give you a world full of knowledge. In life, people experience
a lot of good or bad happenings that can last for a minute or for a lifetime. These people are most
likely victims of karma , or the destiny that you earn through your actions and behavior. Alike, in
Sophocles play, Antigone, his characters face an abundance of hardships because of their excessive
amounts of prideand the actions behind them.
Creon creates a lot of conflict because of his prideful behavior towards everyone around him.
Creon is especially prideful when a situation involves Antigone, mostly because she s a woman
and he feels that she is weaker. Antigone is very rebellious against him, but he doubts her and
explains to the Choragos why he has such feelings. She has much to learn. The inflexible breaks
first, the toughest iron cracks first, and the wildest horses bend their necks at the pull of the
smallest curb (Sophocles 507). Creon arrogance angers the gods and doesn t get him any further
with the Antigone situation, but after all of his hubris, no major consequences for him. Later on in
the play, after Creon is finally punished by the gods, he realizes all of the damage dealt

4. The Glass Castle, By Jeannette Walls
The Glass Castle is a memoir written by Jeannette Walls. An interesting novel, it switches back and
forth between Jeannettes childhood adventures and her current life in New York City. During the
childhood adventures, she describes growing up with her mom, Rosemary Walls; her father, Rex
Walls; and her three siblings, Lori, Brian, and Maureen Walls. Invariably short on food and money,
life is not easy in this family. Neither of her parents can maintain a steady job, resulting in no
income for the family. To make things more difficult, Rex Walls is an alcoholic who spends what
little money they do acquire on alcohol. Rosemary Walls is a free spirited artist who deals with her
husband s abusive nature, refusing to leave him.

please Jeannette. Rex knows that the young Jeannette still has faith in him and tries desperately to
hold onto that. Nevertheless, alcohol is still his primary motivation. He does not seem to feel bad

5. Essay on Collapse in Maya Society
At the end of the first millennium A.D., the lowland Maya empires disintegrated after 750 years of
prominence (Handout 1). Warfare, the growing population, resource depletion, and climatic
fluctuations contributed to the downfall of the Classical lowland empires (Schele and Freidel 321).
500 years later, the scattered Maya that remained would again face a crisis as the Spanish
conquistadores invaded Yucatan, conquered, and began to rule. Though the Spanish conquest of the
Maya brought a new religionand diseases that decimated the population, the collapse of Classical
Maya civilizationwas the greatest crisis in Maya history. It marked the end of the great Classical
empires whose knowledge and artistic achievements surpassed all... Show more content on

The Maya participated in extensive trade networks, as the Spanish discovered when Columbus
captured a trading canoe off the coast of Honduras that contained cacao beans, Mexican
obsidian, copper axes, woven garments, and slaves (Clendinnen 3). The fall of lowland Maya
culture resulted from a confluence of factors. Over population and environmental degradation led
to malnutrition and disease, as residential complexes expanded to cover agricultural land and the
clearing of forests for milpa agricultural resulted in erosion (Schele and Freidel 321). Social stress
compounded the environmental strains, and warfare between neighboring states also affected the
morale of the population (Lecture 2/10). The kings attempted to address these problems, but pride
and exclusivity prevented them from sharing power or admitting defeat at the hands of an enemy
(Schele and Freidel 347 8). The collapse of Teotihuacan in the 7th century A.D. altered trade and
power relationships, which also may have contributed to the tumultuous state of the lowland
empires prior to their collapse (Lecture 2/10). The collapse of the lowland Maya empires marked
the end of a way of life. When the villagers lost faith in the powers of the ahauob they dispersed
into the forests and returned to their lives as farmers (128). With the decline of the Maya kings,
Maya religion also underwent changes to become a more local matter. In the northern empires that
persisted, the ruling structure

Adverse effects of removable partial denture on the periodontium
Prosthesis as a term is defined as the artificial appliance which intends to replace a lost part of the

I am analyzing a poem by E. E. Cummings called nobody loses all the time . I think on the
surface this is just a poem about a pretty unfortunate, average guy with not the best luck, but
there are a lot of hidden messages in the poem. For example, the main character is Uncle Sol.
The word sol means sun, which is clearly an important symbol. Though Uncle Sol s farm / failed

the chickens eyes. His farm wasn t a complete failure because at least it was of use to someone. It

8. The Boxer Primer
With the progress of the metallic cartridge case and the advancement of smokeless powder, a
reliable ignition method was needed. When loading ammunition, the ignition method utilized is
the primer. Today s primers are basically a tiny cup of an explosive that ignites the powder
charge. Dating back to 1805 and developed by Reverend Forsyth, this detonating powder was a
mixture of fulminate of mercury and potassium chlorate. Not only does the invention of the
primer offer convenience its more reliable. Even with the Flintlock ignition system dominating
firearms and obscurity over percussion cap claims, Joshua Shaw is given credit for creating the
percussion cap in 1814. This percussion cap primer used an explosive mixture of fulminate of
mercury, chlorate of potash, and ground glass in a small cup. This priming cup was positioned
beneath the hammer and would explode releasing gas into the flash hole of the nipple when
released. The charge would ignite the powder charge propelling the projectile out of the muzzle.
In today s modern cartridges, the basic components are very similar, but with upgrades.
Everything is self contained and easier to place into a cartridge case. The nipple location has
changed, and is located inside the case for a Berdan or in the form of an anvil in the Boxer primer.

9. Issues of Race in The Prince of Egypt
The film The Prince of Egypt tells the tale of Moses. This essay will focus on how the movie
handled the issue of race. In terms of the essay, race can be defined as, the conflict between the
Egyptians and Hebrews. In particular this essay will focus on the depiction of slavery, Moses
killing an Egyptian, and the relationship between Mosesand Ramses. The conflict between the
Egyptians and Hebrews was well demonstrated throughout the movie. Although comparing it to
Exodus, the conflict was portrayed less brutal. The animosity between the Hebrews and
Egyptians is played down. The relationship between Ramses and Moses shows compassion
towards Egyptians and Hebrews. The issue of race is evident in the prince of Egypt but is
played down. This can be seen through less brutality inflicted on the slaves, when Moses kills an
Egyptian, and the relationship between Ramses and Moses. When the Prince of Egypt would
show the scenes of slavery, they were seen as less brutal. For example during the opening scene
the Hebrews are shown building Egypt. While this is going on the viewer is able to see how the
Hebrew were treated by the Egyptians. The singing puts the scene in a less intense mode. The
only dialogue is song which is sung for promise of going to the promise land. Instead of focusing
in on the brutality of slavery, the scene gives hope to the slaves. So the Egyptians made the Israelites
their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with

The reason I disagree that justice was served is because Stallworth killed a human being versus
Vick killing dogs. Stallworth should have been required to do some type of prison term for killing

17. The Sociological Debate Of Nature And Upbringing
The first sociological concept prepped for application to the silver screen is the debate of nature
versus nurture. The phrase nature versus nurture refers to the debate concerning the origin of
human behavior and whether it is determined by biology, the nature part of the equation, or
upbringing, the nurture part of the equation. Biology, in this case, comes down to a person s
genetic predisposition, with proponents claiming that a person is born with the behaviors they
will have for the rest of their lives and nothing will change that. Nature also connects to what
fetuses are exposed to in the womb, as Van Goozen et al. 1994 showed that, ...high levels of
testosterone contribute to stereotypically masculine traits such as aggressiveness and
competitiveness (Ferris and Stein 2016:97). Upbringing, in this case, relates to the environment
someone grew up in and what they were exposed to as they started learning about the world.
Evidence has been found to support either side of the debate, but no conclusive answer has been
reached yet. For the most part, it is believed that both nature and nurture play a role in how our
behaviors and identity develop. The second sociological concept that it up for discussion is the
social conflict theory. This term is used to describe the relationship Karl Marxsaw between between
the bourgeoisie, the owners of the means of productions or, anything that can create wealth (Ferris
and Stein 2016:25), and the proletariat, the workers who

When he asks for her to proclaim her love to him she simply answers, Unhappy that I am, I cannot

because he did not have control of the situation so he banished the one daughter who would have

of King Lear giving up some of his control, but also the first instance in his decline to insanity.
King Lear soon loses all control when Goneril and Regan refuse to let him stay with them. I gave

Paradoxical Neutrality in Humanity Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter introduces adultery
between Hester and Dimmesdale to oppose Puritanism, which believes in absolute goodness or
wickedness. These two sinners mutual crime and yearning for redemption indicate the dualism in
humanity. The conflicted irony between their inner selves and outward characters heightens the
tension in the novel, which dissolves with the unity of private and public selves. Hawthorne s use
of contrast in The Scarlet Letterreveals duality in Hester and Dimmesdale s identities to criticize
Puritanism s inflexible judgment of people and to promote tolerance within humanity, which
resolves with the acceptance of one s unchanging identity at the end.

Article 6 (Fair Trial), all citizens are to be tried fairly and equally in a court of law, and are
presumed innocent until proven guilty. Article 12 (Marriage and Family), all men and women have
the right to marry and start a family. Another example that could be used is Devolution for
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as much of it has the character of fundamental law, it has
limited the powers of Westminster it contributes to the case that the British constitution has become
more codified in the sense that it is more rigid and hard to change because it is derived through
referendums, defying this means that the government is against the wish of the people.
Another statute that supports that indeed the British constitution is becoming more codified is the
2005 constitutional reform act which separate the judiciary form the executive and legislature by
creating a supreme court court which more adopts the idea of separate powers mostly found n
codified constitutions like the US for example , it also took over the judicial work of the house of
lords, establishing the judicial appointments commission. The prospect of a coalition government in
2010 opens up the discussion even more as it led to the coalition agreement for stability and reform
and called for constitutional clarification by the cabinet secretary, which demonstrates that indeed
the constitution is becoming more codified as

same way, we can establish that the Duke also enjoys the collection of women, in the way that he
introduces his next piece of art.
That s my last Duchess...
Line 1
The Duke seems to be a man who expects his wife to be the
conventional female, and abide by the strict gender roles that existed at this period in history. He
repeatedly downgrades his wife, and makes out that she doesn t appreciate the high social rank
which she has married into. He even goes as far as indicating that his wife has been unfaithful all
an attempt to really try and justify his reasons as to why he gave commands .
[She] had a heart how shall we say? too soon made glad.
Line 23
In this quote, Browning tells us that his last duchess was easily pleased by compliments that she
received from other people. We sense that she also voices her gratitude for these compliments, and
in this way, the Duke has become disillusioned and because of this, he downgrades his wife for
basically being a nice person.
In another pretty feeble attempt to justify his actions, he tries to make his wife out as a
disrespectful person. He tells how every single gift that she received from various people would
draw from her alike the approving speech . From here, the Duke
23. Examples Of Figurative Language In A Separate Peace
An Explanation of Internal Conflict
In his novel, A Separate Peace, author John Knowles implements an army of literary devices to
lure and capture a reader s interest. If one were to turn to a single page in this novel, he/she would
find several devices. A heavily recurring theme is the internal conflict of the characters throughout
the story. Knowles incorporates the theme of inner conflict into several characters, not just a single,
well rounded character, such as Gene.
As previously stated, John Knowles uses a wide variety of literary devices, such as figurative
language. While reading Knowles novel, A Separate Peace, one can find multiple examples of
figurative language in every chapter. Similes, metaphors, and personification ... Show more content

Many times throughout A Separate Peace, he utilizes imagery to do exactly that. Imagery is the
use of visually descriptive words and language in a story or novel. In the beginning of the novel,
Knowles exercises his knowledge of imagery by using dreary and dark images. The ocean looked
dead too, dead gray waves hissing mordantly along the beach, which was gray and dead looking
itself.(49). This passage relates to Gene later in the story. He feels terrible and dead inside from
knocking Finny off the branch. Even further in the story, Finny dies from another break in his
leg, which occurs because Gene broke his leg the first time. Gene feels exactly like the ocean again,
feeling as if darkness was taking over his life. On page 72, Devon is described by Gene as being
vacant of peace. Peace had deserted Devon. The war had finally made it s way to the school, and
destroying peace and replacing it with fear and uncertainty. Gene feels devoid of peace after
Finny is injured, just as Devon does when the war closes in. He believes that he is the sole
reason that his best friend is dead, and this idea tears and rips his insides apart. Imagery may not
be used as frequently as figurative language or symbolism, but it is equal in

25. Shrek Research Papers
DreamWorks Animation has released over 30 animated films since 1998. Among their highest
grossing films are the Shrek franchise, Madagascar 3, and Kung Fu Panda 2. For this analysis I
shall be looking at Shrek 2 and Kung Fu Panda 2, and examining what may make these movies a
bit unsuccessful despite their success. Shrek 2 is DreamWorks highest grossing filmat $919.8
million worldwide, topping its first film Shrek. This film may be the highest grossing film but
what about it may have fallen short? I found the opening of the movie using a storybook to not
be as successful as its usage in the first Shrek. The issue of using the storybook may have
stemmed from how they transitioned to the actually movie, having the 2D storybook picture of
Prince Charming suddenly change into the 3D model was a bit jarring and could have been done
better. Using a different way to deliver the opening monologue, or even changing the dialogue so
it didn t have to be read as if it were a storybook could have fixed this issue.

The 2D style for Po s flashbacks works fine at times with the 3D aspects of the film, but then they
also have a cutout sequence at the beginning of the film that has a completely different design. I
feel that the best way to fix this issue is by choosing between the necessary styles. The 2D
animation works better with the 2D in my opinion, while I feel like the cutout animation is out of
place. If they wanted to have the opening in a different style I would suggest sticking with only 2
styles of animation in the movie. I do have to say that the visuals of the film were stunning, the
color palates looked very nice and I specifically enjoyed the contrast of red and black that was

26. A Good Thing Is A Bad Thing By Philip K. Dick
Imagine a world where you can t even walk down a sidewalk without using technology. Author
Philip K. Dick, created a world with fantastic solutions for everyday problems; but too much of a
good thing is a bad thing. In the novel Ubik, author Philip K. Dick suggested that technology is
slowly changing our thoughts and morals to the point that humans can no longer function without it.
What exactly is a moral? According to Google, a moral is a person s standards of behavior or
beliefs concerning what is and what is not acceptable for them to do. In other words it s what a
person believes is the right thing to do; it s what is thought to be what makes you a trustworthy
person.

Technology had been created to allow easy access to the drugs by putting them in vending
machines. Looking back on page 67 there s another drug/job connection, When I m at work I
function better if I can get an ergot based psychedelic drug; it causes me to actually see who I am
up against and I find that it helps. These people purposely did drugs to increase their chances of
being hired.
Another moral based problem in Ubik are moratoriums. Once a person dies they are frozen and
sent to a moratorium; this is how they preserve their deceased loved ones. The man in charge of
the Moratorium Mr. Runciter visited talked about how great it was. His exact words are found
on page 4, Burial is barbaric, Herbert muttered aloud. Remnant of the primitive origins of our
culture. They no longer view burial as respectful, so they freeze the dead to preserve their
thoughts and souls. Not only do they capture the spirit of the person they keep them until they
completely fade away; some stay for years others fade quickly. The spirit remains on earth until
they are released from storage by their visiting family. Once they fade they are hauled off,

If someone mentions guitar solo to you, what comes to mind? A musical god commanding a

The guitar as an instrument evokes so many feelings, even for those not musically inclined. The
guitar solo, is also a topic of heated debates. What makes a good solo? Is it the ability to
compliment a song, or to be a showcase for self indulgence?
And while the guitar solo seems synonymous with rock and roll music, its roots are embedded in
jazz and blues.

it was unforgiving to everybody in the area. Though the immigrants who came to the US all took
different paths and ended up settling in different places of the Great Plains, in the end they both
went through the same cold, unpredictable blizzard.
The Rollag family, originating from Norway, came to the US because her husband, Ole, was
assigned five years of military service, their farms were being reduced in size every generation, and
for a better life for their children. In Norway, the firstborn son has a much easier life because he is

J.D. Salinger s, The Catcher in the Rye, holds the honor of appearing on Time magazine s 2010
list of the 100 best English language novels written since 1923 (Lacayo). In contrast, the
American Library Association (ALA) notes that the novel also holds the dubious honor of being
the tenth most challenged book in the United States from 1990 to 1999. In 2001, 2005, and 2009
the book again made the ALA top ten most frequently challenged book list (Banned and
Challenged Books). In the light of this history, the question arises as to what makes The Catcher
in the Rye so divisive? Ever since the novel first appeared in 1951, it has been challenged by critics
who advocate removing it from high school curriculums. These opponents of the novel fear the
profanityand perceived immorality of the central character, Holden Caulfield, will corrupt young
adults. However, these harsh critics fail to recognize that The Catcher in the Rye offers young
adults profound moral lessons penned with real world words they can identify with, and no
person should be denied the right to read those words. Salinger s protagonist, Holden Caulfied,
narrates his adventure with words that express all the angst, anger, and unpredictability of a
typical seventeen year old. In his rants against society and phonies, Holden freely swears his way
through his story. The profanities that flow from Holden s mouth are the everyday words often

It s Saturday. Everyone is gearing up for the big game. The alumni are out in the parking lot
firing up the grills for tailgating. The students are waiting in long lines to make sure they can get
a ticket into the student section. Kids are running into the team store, eagerly looking for their
favorite jersey, or perhaps a cool hat and a foam finger. The concession lines go around the
stadium. The stadium is sold out beyond capacity, stuffing people into the luxury viewing booths
and overcharging the seats way up in the nosebleeds, up in the spots where you can hardly see
what s happening. After the game ends, students and families alike head toward the fan shop again,
rushing to find something they can get autographed by the star quarterback. Perhaps one of the
biggest facets of the American culture that can t be found anywhere else in the world is the concept
of collegesports. The United States is the only country on the globe where students at institutions
of higher learning compete in collegiate athletics against each other. Every year, college sports

pride they have in their program, and universities look on with glee as they rake in the benefits of

However, people argue that a heterosexual male and female couldn t be friends because it often
ends with them starting a relationship even if they were friends with the person while they had a

had a boyfriend and he also had a girlfriend but now they were so close that their friendship has

Communicating with a person of the opposite sex about how you feel emotionally often helps
because something you would not feel comfortable with just venting to the same sex. Although
men seem strong and nothing ever phases them it is important to have a friend for emotional

making Simmons the sole head of the company. Simmons also tried his hand in producing

41. How Did Myrtle Wilson Fail In The Great Gatsby
The failure of the American Dream
The novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream. The American
Dream is the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success
through hard work. The failure of the American Dream is represented by Myrtle Wilson, Daisy
Buchanan, and Jay Gatsby.
Myrtle Wilson s dream is to have an opulent, happy life. One reason why her American Dream fails
is because of Daisy Buchanan. In The Great Gatsby, it says, [...] until I realized that her eyes, wide
with jealous terror, were fixed not on Tom, but on Jordan Baker, whom she took to be his wife
(Fitzgerald, 125). Myrtle is jealous of Daisy because she wants to be with Tom. She is not happy
with her life. Another reason why her American Dream fails is because of George Wilson. In The
Great Gatsby, Myrtle states, She smiled slowly and, walking through ... Show more content on

Gatsby himself is a reason why his American Dream fails. In The Great Gatsby, the book states,
And inside, as we wandered through Marie Antoinette music rooms and Restoration salons [...]
(Fitzgerald,91). Also in The Great Gatsby, the author states, We went upstairs, through period
bedrooms swathed in rose and lavender silk and vivid with new flowers, through dressing rooms
and poolrooms, and bathrooms, with sunken baths [...] (Fitzgerald, 91). Gatsby thinks he can
impress Daisy and win her back by showing his wealth. Gatsby cannot discern that by trying to
get Daisy, he can t tell the difference between what is right and wrong. He does not get to be
with Daisy because of Tom. Tom is a reason why his American Dream fails. In The Great Gatsby,
the book expresses, In June she married Tom Buchanan of Chicago, with more pomp and
circumstance than Louisville every knew before (Fitzgerald, 75). Daisy married Tom Buchanan
while Gatsby was fighting in the war. If Daisy did not get married and waited for Gatsby, then
Gatsby would have been with

42. Ethnic Differences Between South And Valley
The race or ethnicity of the students in valley are very different from my home school South. Here
at valley there are mixed race/ethnicity and at my home school their are mostly white people and
less of other different type of race. At South the most common spoken language is English and like
ta Valley people can speak different language. The only thing that South and Valley do that are

CCR stands for (collegecareer readiness). We go to it every Friday and what we do is talk about

43. The Five Major Developmental Theories
Chapter six and seven had a lot of useful information for the field I am working to pursue. The
chapters touched on many different areas that all connected. From learning about the five major
developmental theories teachers use to foster creative thought to learning about assessments. Which
I did not even think about connecting assessments to creative arts. With that being said I think the
two most important parts of chapter six and seven were learningabout the five major developmental
theories and how children learn through assessment in chapter seven. The reason I thought the five
major developmental theories were important was, because I always want to apply theories to my
learnings. It helps me remember who did what and how to apply their

44. Major Depressive Disorder Impacts Many People Worldwide
Major Depressive Disorder impacts many people worldwide. According to Devi et al. (2005), the
disorder is characterized by feelings of sadness accompanied by emotional and physical withdrawal,
all thought to result from molecular and cellular abnormalities that interact with genetic and
environmental factors. To date, no concrete neurobiological explanation exists to completely
define, diagnose and treat this illness. Depression debilitates patients, society and economies. An
estimated 14.8 million Americans (6.7% of the population) suffer from this disease, costing the
economy 83.1 billion US dollars annually (Cook et al., 2009). Those affected do not recover
quickly and this proves a burden to one s personal life, families and the healthcare system. As such,
many questions are raised, such as: Is depression genetic or environment based? Can depression be
cured? How do we select a safe treatment? What cellular pathways are targets for depression
therapies? Slide 2 Brain Activity and Depression Figure 1. Increased Brain Activity Patterns in

While fishing on the bay side, also has an amazing view of the island and the long elevated bridge.
Another great activity South Padre Island offers is horse back riding on the beach which offers
different times of the day you can choose. Horseback riding is fun but what makes it more
amazing is you can enjoy it while being on the beach. It is really a great time to enjoy with your
family and just ride along the beach hearing the sound of the ocean. One of my other favorite
activities that I love to visit every summer when we have the whole family down is Schlitterbahn
Waterpark. It has amazing rides for the family to enjoy and cool down on a hot summer day.
They recently opened an indoor pool which is really cool just in case you want a take a break
from the hot sunny day. South Padre Island also has many tours you can enjoy with your family.
Theirs charters that take a couple of groups around the bay and they already know what spots

ago and they had an amazing time. Seeing their little faces overjoyed when they would see the
dolphins coming up out of the water and making a show for us made me really happy. At one
point so many dolphins were making a great show that we took a picture of the whole family and
in the background some dolphins were captured. It was beautiful and I m glad we were able to
take pictures with the dolphins we can have memories to cherish. Sea

46. Influence of the Western War on Current US Action
How western war influence current US action Afghanistan Iraq
Introduction
Cambridge Illustrated History of Warfare: The Triumph of the West published in 1995, edited by
Geoffrey Parker has explained a number of factors that have played a part in the dominance of the
western way of war. The western way included in here is more about the dominance of the western
culture or the European culture in wars as compared to the other factors that may include
technology or finance. Five main foundations according to Parker can define the western way of
war. These factors include being superior in military and war based technology, superior military
training and discipline, increased reliance on military theory, an increased competition between
European states that lead to increased military innovation and lastly, military innovation by
adoption of new and better technology (Parker, 2005, p. 67).
The five foundations of western war have helped US in gaining victory over countries like Iraq and
Afghanistan. The main aim of the paper will be to highlight how these five main factors play
important roles in the dominance of a country over another during a war. How the countries like
Iraq and Afghanistan are failing against the more powerful US army based on Parker s five
foundations of a western war will be considered in the paper.
These days one of the most important ongoing wars includes war against terrorism initiated by US
against the militants in Iraq and Afghanistan. One

47. The Use Of Language In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Throughout many generations, there have been great leaders and infamous leaders that use
language to further their cause. Language is very powerful and the ones who are talented hold
deep responsibility. This power can be extremely positive or extremely detrimental to a society as
whole. Dialect between one another can help others unite, while having the hazard of manipulation,
or even brainwashing. A legendary example of the use of language is Animal Farm, the novel
written by George Orwell.
The objective in using language is to bring people together. In Animal Farm, the pigs brought the
animals together to rebel against Jones. In Chapter One, Old Major and the pigs show leadership
and bring forth ideas to overthrow Jones. This is an example of others coming together for a
common good through language. In the middle of this historic novel, the animals finally gain
control of the farm. In chapter three, the pigs had to use language to encourage the other animals to
farm for their peers. Once Animal Farm practically became an empire, the citizens of the farm
started their first huge project: building a windmill. This is another example of how the guidance of
good language can help communities accomplish massive goals.
While language can help a society, it can also be a means for leaders to manipulate their own
people. In Chapter Three of Animal Farm, it becomes apparent that the pigs have advantages over
the other animals. The pigs give clever reasoning to why they

polices should not limit and only aim to improve literacy standards when children on spend a small
percentage of their lives in school, yet polices should aim to embrace the idea of family as a whole
and to get parents and guardians to be involved with him or her early.

49. Reasons For The Fall Of The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire had existed as a powerful force for over 1000 years. The Romans brought
prosperity, order, technological advances, and advanced military to the West. The empire which
was thought to run for several centuries would only be seen in the waning years as a Golden Age
Empire which could not hold itself in the end. The Roman Empirefell due to several reasons. Some
reasons of why Rome fell was due to Insubstantial Military, Economic Decrease, The Huns,
Barbarian Tribes, Full power of the Emperor, and Rise of The East Empire. An Empire which was
taught to had mastered its civilization had no way to let it s own people be the cause of one the
most renowned empires. How indeed did this mighty empire fall?
The Roman Empire fell due to many reasons and one of the main reasons due to why it collapsed
was due to insubstantial military. Insubstantial military was mainly caused by financial issues.
The government had not enough money to pay militants to work for their army. Many soldiers
did not receive their salary by cash as the state deducted food and clothing tax from their pay. To
this decision, a legionary on active campaign would hope to add the booty of war , from the
bodies of their enemies and as plunder from enemy settlements. Slaves could also be claimed from
the prisoners of war and divided amongst the legion for later sale, which would bring in a sizeable
supplement to their regular pay. In the late Roman Empire, it became increasingly difficult for

51. Personal Vehicle Observation Report
On June 25, 2015, my personal vehicle was damaged while I attended Trivia Night at R Macs
Tavern between the hours of 2100 and 0000 that evening. The tavern is located at 110 White
Horse Pike in Oaklyn, NJ and my vehicle was parked legally and unattended in the parking lot
when the incident occurred. The damage to my vehicle s driver s side front fender (crushed) and
side mirror (broken) was noticed the next morning in the daylight before reporting to day patrol.
During the morning hours, I recalled that I parked under one of the business outside security
cameras. I placed a call to the tavern and spoke to Jack Fister, the morning maintenance person.
Jack informed me that the security system is very antiquated and would work sporadically,
however he would check. A short time later, Jack called and related that he observed three males in
their early twenties horse playing next to my truck. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bryon briefly looked over the estimate, agreed to the cost and related that he needed a week to
gather his portion ($500.00) of the total cost. I also informed Byron that once all the funds were
collected between his friends, to take the funds to Elmer s. Approximately one hour later, I
received a call from Don, the co owner of Elmer s. Don related that Linda Sheehan (co owner)
received a call from Byron. During this call, Byron used foul language and screamed at Linda,
questioning the cost of the repairs. Don then took over the called and received the same treatment. I
