American Traitor: Benedict Arnold
Sarah Boynton
Professor Brewer
History 2111 Spring
Benedict Arnold is a well known public figure in the United States. He made many
accomplishments throughout his career serving for the United States militia. Due to
the choices which Arnold made nearing the end of his military career in the U.S., he
would forever be known as a traitor rather than a hero. This is the story of the life of
Benedict Arnold.
Growing up Benedict Arnold had a troubled life. His teachers described him as a
trouble maker. He was said to have been reckless and daring. Arnold grew up in a
very religiously strict household. His parents were protestant and his mother was a
firm believer in the religion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arnold s family was protestant, and his mother was a firm believer in the quote
from the bible, Spare the rod, spoil the child. Aside from growing up in a strict
religious family, Arnold s father was an alcoholic. The author talks about how the
burden of his father s addiction became a heavy weight on him and his mother. The
author goes on to talk about Arnold s successful business in pharmaceuticals as an
adult, and then proceeds to tell the reader how Arnold became involved in the
military. The author describes Arnold as a fearless and determined leader in the militia
, and how the marriage of his second wife who came from a family of loyalists
would sway him to betray the United States. The book ends with the exposure of
Arnold s betrayal, and the author describes the rest of his life as lonely, in debt, and
in constant pain from the injuries he sustained during battle. Although this book
talks about similar things to The Patriot Traitor: The life and Legacy of Benedict
Arnold , there were a lot of points here about Arnold s life that were not discussed
such as his family s religious views and the introduction to British forces by his

But why is everyone saying cholesterol is bad for you?
It turns out there are two types of cholesterol: HDL, or high density lipoprotein, and
LDL, or low density lipoprotein cholesterol. LDL cholesterol can build up in your
arteries and cause calcification and stenosis, or inelasticity, which has lead to LDL
being called bad cholesterol. These conditions cause heart disease and damage the
heart.

The U.S. military is the largest and most powerful military in the history of the
world. When the U.S. must use this military might to invade another country, the
President and senior elected officials have a responsibility to ensure the reasoning
behind the invasion is ironclad and as transparent as possible. War should be a last
resort, and those in the position of power need exhaust all diplomatic channels first.
Unfortunately this powerful sense of duty was not abided by during the lead up to
the Iraqinvasion. Senior officials in the Bush administration deliberately deceived
the public by using manipulative and inaccurate intelligence information in order to
gain public approval for the invasion of Iraq. Trusted elected officials betrayed the
oath to their office. Callously and recklessly caused the loss of life to members of

When using heat spray, the heat will simulate circulation of the blood flow and
attack painful tissue by soothing the joints. The warmer the area, the better it is
because oxygen and nutrients can reduce the pain and relax muscle spasms. This
method is used 48 72 hours after injury. Some injuries that can be dealt with heat
spray include pulled hamstrings, hypo extended shoulder and etc. In order for the
proper blood flow, the person must be able to have good circulation of blood.. Lastly
another system that Deep Freeze affects is the Musculoskeletal System.
Musculoskeletal system works with muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints,
and other connective tissues. When being active in a sport or just going for a
normal run, it uses the ligaments and joints in order for it to make the complete
movement of a run. As mention in the previous sentences using heat spray brings
oxygen to the pain causing the muscles to relax and become stretchy. A way to
understand this is think of a jar of sauce, when the cap is hard to open, run it under
hot water. When the heat from the water hits the jar, it will make the cap twist

Despite Hawkins being the captive in this story, the narrator, Bonaparte, notes that
Hawkins wins the argument. Each one of the military men in this story has made a
decision to join a cause and to follow that particular cause, whether it is the
continued control over Ireland or the insurrection to overthrow British rule. By
illustrating the irony in certain names, we glimpse cynicism behind the scenes that
O Connor has introduced into the story. The narrator of the story, Bonaparte,
displays his loyalty to his duties, nonetheless, he does not want to go out of his way
to execute the Englishman whose company he has enjoyed since they were put
under his supervision. The name Bonaparte meaning good solution or good match,
helps identify his character, who believes there is an alternative to executing these
soldiers: Didn t we understand him and didn t he understand us? Did we imagine
for an instant that he d shoot us for all the so and so officers in the so and so
British Army? (DiYanni, 50). The name Bonaparte also provokes the thought of
Napoleon Bonaparte who had a goal of world domination. Another character with a
precisely curious name is Noble, who is always arguing with the prisoner Hawkins.
Noble argues throughout the story about the existence of God and the afterlife,
displaying his spirituality and decency as a character. The name Noble, meaning

This semester we have done many reading s that have touched on topics such as
race, gender, sextuality, and more. One reading that stands out though is Dorothy
Allison s book Two or Three Things I Know For Sure. This reading discusses
Dorothy s childhood in a way where you get the picture of the true effects of poverty
on her family, and herself. This look into her life can show the reader a real life
depiction of her emotions and feelings at any given time in her life. This story of her
life can also give the reader a closer look at the way genderchanges based on income.
While Dorothy s family is described with very hard set gender lines on the male side
on the female side they are more blurred.

If a rich man were to be portraying this amount of masculinity then he is going to be
looked at as though he is a leader not a trouble maker. Dorthy also explains that the
men in her family were players explaining that they took up women as if it was a
craft, thus relating it to the procreation part of manhood. There is also the fact that
the adaptation of manhood seen in her younger cousins appears as though to be
sped up when compared to the way traditionally manhood is adopted. As Dorothy
puts it My cousins as boys who in a matter of weeks turned into hard faced men.
(Allison, pg. 28) This is another abnormality from traditional manhood that the men
in her family took on. Overall Dorothy s description of manhood in her family fits
the standards but also is jacked up. This shows that while traditional masculinity is
very much at play here it is also a lot more in focus in the men in her families lives.
Ultimately this gives the reader a look at the role poverty plays in masculinity.
Another issue with gender and poverty that can be seen in the book Two of Three
Things I Know For Sure. is femininity and how that is affected when you have to
work to makes ends meet. Dorothy has an entire section of the novel where she dives
into how her income affected her and the other women in her family through the
portrayal of femininity. The reader can see Dorothy s strained relationship with
beauty and femininity in the first

many commercials advertising soy milk, where the actors, or maybe they re

awareness that lobbying is a problem, but there are few solutions. As a society, I
think it is time we reevaluate whether or not the government is still by and for the

$119k was actually given to victims and $60K was used to restock inventories. This

Dental treatment requires a certain amount of time and it is difficult to keep a child
still. Under these circumstances dentists will often recommend some form of
pharmacological sedation. For the most part, dental procedures are ambulatory;
meaning patients will go home shortly after the procedure is done. To facilitate this,
dentists use oral sedation or intranasal sedation instead of general anesthesia. General
anesthesia not only will significantly increase the cost of treatment, but also the risk
as well. The use of oral sedation or intranasal sedation represents an advantage for
dentists, who can perform a treatment that without sedation could not be
accomplished. On the contrary, drug response from patients represents a major risk
that can not be ignored. Due to the great risk of advanced reactions in patients after
receiving a drug or a combination of drugs, researchers are constantly working on
finding better and safer sedative agents. In this paper I will discuss the findings on
several research papers in regards to safer and efficient sedatives for dental
procedures on children.
Oral sedation is the simplest and also the most convenient method used to manage
uncooperative patients. The reason behind this is its easy way of administration
(oral) and the lack of injections, which is one of the major fears in children.
Sedatives could be also administered in its gas form, but that would

Children thrive in predictable and consistent environments that allow children to
feel safe and secure. Children require and parents have an obligation to provide
children with the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing. Children need to
experience a childhood filled with love, warmth, and positive interactions along
with experiencing a childhood that is free from abuse and neglect. The reality is
that not every child is provided with an environment that fosters a child s needs,
parents are not always able to meet the basic needs of a child, and the childhoods of
approximately 742,000 children were not free from abuse and neglect in 2011 (U.S.

could research this graph as the visual was so extraordinary. I found an online
interactive graph of the DJIA using data for the last 8 or 9 decades. I could not create
any data set that produced the theatrical image shown in the film. This, however, is
typical Robert Reich, shocking graphs with no numbers. He just uses them as pictures

Attempting to illustrate the income inequality, we were introduced to the graph

wanted to focus on the timeline of the graph from around 1920 to 1940. It seems this

want to get back to that time.

important for an organization to have alignment between its strategy and

structure are extremely important because it directly impacts a firm s performance
(Rothaermel, 2013, p. 309). Also, as an organization grows, it should reevaluate the
current strategy and structure to ensure that it remains the optimal choice for the

At this level, each of the SBUs is viewed as its own independent entity, pursuing its

level strategy with a single or dominant business would be best served by a functional
structure, organizations seeking related or unrelated diversification would be wise to
utilize a multidivisional structure (Rothaermel, 2013). Lastly, the matrix structure is a
combination of the functional and multidivisional structures (Rothaermel, 2013). It is
most appropriate when an organization needs a structure which allows for both
centralized and decentralized decision making, and can be organized by geographic

automatically lend to a matrix structure, a transnational strategy which has the
requirements above is better served through a matrix structure (Rothaermel, 2013).

Module 11 Research Paper
A big controversial part of our society these days is the wage gap. As my friend Kylie
s dad says: You can tell there is still a gap because no one wants to talk about it.
Some people ignore the issue and some people are just unaware to the issue entirely.
A wage gap inequality is a difference in pay from a white male to a different gender,
religion, or race. This is expressed as a percentage. Wage gaps have existed because
of the extreme segregation that has clouded our country for decades during our
country s history. In the past, it was not socially acceptable for women to work.
They were supposed to stay home and take care of the household. This creates for
differences in pay as women were integrated into the work force. The Gender Wage
Gap still exists and is an issue in our society because our mothers, wives, sisters,
and daughters still believe they are being paid unfairly, it is proven to be present
in every state in the US, and actions are still being made to this day to try and close
this narrowing gap. To further my research I have decided to research the gender
wage gap nationally as well as locally in North Carolina.
Nationally women on average are paid 80 cents to a man s dollar. Experts say that
women and men will not reach pay parity until 2059. This means that equal pay will
not be achieved until 43 years from now. This represents a big issue in our society. A

26. The Bible Is The Core Of True Wisdom Essay
As a rule of thumb, is worth to establish that the Bible is the core of true wisdom.
Another source is worldly wisdom found in our selfish ambition to succeed in life
at all costs in order to achieve our final goals; in this case to conquer happiness. To
illustrate worldly wisdom, history speaks of a man who was born on July 356 BC
of a royal family. Who looked at closely his life and thought of himself; if only he
was the leader of his army he would be happy in life, and he fulfilled his dream; but
that was not enough. Then he thought of himself; my wisdom, knowledgeand
experiences are attributes of a prince, and he became a prince; but that was not
enough. Later, he thought of himself; with only the opportunity to be king this will
definitely determine the meaning in life and happiness, and he became the king; but
that was not enough. Finally, he thought of himself; with my wisdom, power,
intelligence, skills, cleverness, and money he could conquer the ends of the world,
and he became a world ruler; but that was not enough, therefore after having
conquered the whole world there was no more and his heart was saddened. This is
how Alexander the Great became the most powerful king in the history. Surprisingly,
at the age of 33 years old, Alexander requested three important wishes; weeks before
dying despite all the money, wealth, power, intelligence, human knowledge, self
righteousness, and authority. Although, for the world the focus of his story is the
center of wisdom

John the Carpenter is a character who Chaucer uses to make an example of someone

The characters in The Miller s Tale have specific purposes and through the way
Chaucer treats his characters helps to create different plots and settings. The central
characters have their own section at the beginning of the tale where they are given a
description, however,
John is never formally introduced to the audience. We mainly find the traits of John s
character through Chaucer s thoughts of him which are given as interjections
throughout the tale. The carpenter is never a full description but a persona of him is
built up through a number of opinions inserted during descriptions of other
characters. This suggests from the beginning, the Chaucer does not attach much
importance to the character of John and sees other characters as being more
important, for example, Alison and Absolon who are described in detail at the
beginning. John is giving small descriptions, usually which mock him, like;
The foolish carpenter was lost in wonder.
The carpenter is never introduced, meaning the audience are not familiar with him as
a main character, which is why he becomes part of the sub plot. During this sub plot,
this is the time when most about the carpenter is revealed to us an audience. The
carpenter is barely given the opportunity to show speech but through his actions and
the mocking other characters make of him, we are able to learn most about him
during the sub plot.
29. Nonprofit Organizations Benefits
Chief Executive Officers make a lot of money. In fact, the average CEO earns 212
times that of the average American worker in the United States (Stelzer, 1997).
This means they earn six to seven figures just on average. Some earn way more
than this. Many people question whether CEO s deserve to earn this much money.
Is it fair that CEO s live in such luxury, while some of their employees work very
hard and still struggle to make ends meet? This question is complicated enough.
However, it gets more complicated when this question is asked about nonprofit
organizations. Should nonprofit CEO s and other executives receive compensation
that is comparable to the market, or is that taking advantage of the resources that
have been generously given to the organization by people who want to see those
organizations do good and accomplish a mission? Justification Now, this is certainly
a question worth asking. With CEOs of for profit organizations, the money used to
pay them comes from selling goods or services. However, with nonprofit
organizations, the money comes from a variety of places. However, a large portion
of this money is from donors. It could also be from grants, or even the government. In
for profit organizations, the consumer putting the... Show more content on

The need for self selection is due, in part, to the fact that nonprofits are not subject
to the usual checks and balances imposed by shareholders of for profits. Such

long as nonprofits can distinguish between high ability and low ability managers, by
paying less they avoid attracting rejects from the for profit sector and still attract
managers whose output is no less than those in the for profit sector (Barragato, 2002,

What Makes Art Art?
Art is an object or piece of work that brings one pleasure. Art is also something you
see or feel and you cannot even begin to describe the ways you like it or how it
makes you feel. Art is something that portrays beauty and happiness. Art lets you see
the world through another person s perspective. Most art seems to tell a story about
where a person has been and the things they have encountered along the way. It lets
you connect with the artist and see things through their eyes. Art is a way of
expressing one s self without words. When I think of art, I think of paintings,

of liquid can create such a beautiful work of art. His work impresses me, because I

The formal qualities of art work are somewhat important. I like paintings that flow

The Mexican War of 1846 1848 was one of major importance to U.S. history, but
has since fallen into annals of obscurity. It was the nation s first war fought on
foreign soil: a war that advocated the concept of manifest destiny , the United States
God given right to claim territory for the establishment of a free democratic society
(Stevenson 2009). Even though many historians claim the war was forced on Mexico
by slaveholders greedy for new territory, President John Polk viewed the war as an

as an act of aggression struck first and killed several of Tyler s men. After receiving
word of the skirmish, President Polk petitioned congress, claiming Mexico has

36. Similarities Between Caesar And Livy
Origin stories are as important as recorded history when analyzing any culture. These
stories reveal the often idealized values which a people associate with themselves
and their state. Drawing comparisons between historical events and legends often
facilitates an understanding of a writer s present through the lens of an idealized past.
Livy s Historyof Rome and Lucan s Civil War compare the civil war between the
ancient Romans and the Sabines that almost came to fruition and the civil war
between Caesar and Pompey. Livy, who lived through the Augustan age, focuses on
the moral lessons that can be gleaned from the Sabine women s actions, while Lucan,
who lived under Nero, focuses on the failings of Caesar and Pompey. How these two

Livy employs a subtler criticism of Caesar and Pompey since he never mentions their
names. However, his language often hints at legend paralleling historical events, such
as when he mentions the resolution of the Sabines and Romans in which the two
kings exercised their joint sovereignty with perfect harmony (Livy, 1.13). The term
king was often used in literature of this period to describe the Caesars, such as how
Augustus is described in Vergil s Parade of Heroes. The image of Romulus and the
Sabine king ruling jointly lies in stark contrast to the tumultuous relationship
between Caesar and Pompey, arguably the two most powerful men of their day.
This phrase makes it apparent that Livy is trying to draw parallels between the
story of the Sabine women and Caesar and Pompey. Livy is careful in his criticism
because while the parallels are apparent, he never specifically mentions their
names. Lucan is outright in his criticism, as his whole work centers on Caesar and
Pompey. He even ventures so far as to call them frenzied and inserts humor into his
writing. For example, he humorously points out that holding land and sea, the entire
world, was not big enough for [Caesar and Pompey] , which colors their grab for
power as childish and motivated by greed

It is apparent in the movie that Hana s character doesn t follow Schlink s

39. How Did The Art World Change In The 1970s
In the contemporary art world changes are constantly happening. Some changes
benefitted the art world and some did not. Lucky for artists in the 1970s the
amount of art related jobs were a lot and many public places opened up to display
new art. During the 1970s, SoHo was kicking off in the art world and attracting
many and by the end of the 1970s artists were beginning to become familiar with
one another and their works. In the 1980s, painters and sculptures had so much
creativity that a lot of their pieces made it into the clubs and different areas. Also in
the 1980s a lot of punk artwork was released. As time passed on rent prices raised
almost three times than it had originally been. This economic downfall continued into
the 1990s making
40. Analysis Of Dramatic Irony In Marlowe
C
hristopher Marlowe has been characterized by various critics as a subjective
playwright, one whose passions are reflected in the passions of his characters.
Michel Poirier states that Marlowe s mind is spurred on by a passion similar to
the one he has ascribed to some of the characters in his dramas. Poirier concludes
that there is a definite connection between Marlowe s temperament and ideas. His
desires govern his thoughts and his passions are the basis for his philosophy.
Poirier considers that egotism is at the centre of his life and works. Paul Kocher
goes so far as to say that Marlowe s degree of subjectivity as a dramatist is the most
important problem of all interpretation of his work. Kocher further notes that any

R. B. Sharpe defines irony as an attitude, a temper, a spirit in which one looks at life
and art. It brings to light and emphasizes by art the contradictions of living. G. G.
Sedgewick gives the following definition of dramatic irony: Dramatic irony, in
brief, is the sense of contradiction felt by spectators of a drama who see a character
acting in ignorance of his condition. This is dramatic irony in its concentrated and
specific form: it grows ... out of that pervasive and controlling knowledge which we
have called general irony and which is the property peculiar and essential to the
illusion of the theatre.
Sharpe s and Sedgewick s definitions of irony and dramatic irony are especially
meaningful when one considers Marlowe s plays. The plays contain many
contradictions of life contradictions between what appears to be truth and what is
truth, between aspiration and achievement, between speech and action. And Marlowe
s characters consistently act ignorant of their conditions. In Tamburlaine, Faustus,
Edward, Mortimer, Barabas, Guise, Dido, and other minor characters, Marlowe has
created characters in whom every speech and action involve ironic undertones
resulting from this ignorance. This irony establishes an objective position on the part
of the playwright, thus, irony allowing Marlowe to maintain a detachment from his
41. Anthropomorphism And Forest Animals
It can be suggested that Bambi s success in generating public support was a result of
personifying the forest animals. Bambi and his friends were given voices, thoughts,
and emotions such as fear, love, even curiosity that made them relatable to viewers.
Anthropomorphism, by definition, is the attribution of human characteristics to non
human entities (Skibins et al., 2015). The purpose of anthropomorphism in
conservation is not to create fictional animal personas, but to create empathy toward
these animals and their ecosystems by stressing that animals have many of our
characteristics (Chan, 2012). For example, when visiting a zoo, a mother may feel a
special connection when seeing a gorilla comfort her baby. By generating this
relationship, anthropomorphism poses a chance to increase public care for a species.
Though anthropomorphism may have an indirect relationship, it creates relatability
between species, and [r]elatability is linked to concern, which can lead to an
increased willingness to take conservation actions for a species (Lloyd and Woodside,
2013). Furthermore, anthropomorphism may be applied in public advertising.
Projecting human characteristics onto an animal, generating an emotional response,
causes a product to become subconsciously memorable. Using such a method in
advertising has been shown to create a link between the consumer and the brand. The
integration of explicit animal symbols... serves to activate and connect associations in

Rocky s knowledge, experience and great relationship with the community and his
customers are the company s biggest strength as well as being located in a
prosperous and developing area. Their greatest weakness is Rocky s lack of business
knowledge because that impacts many areas of the business negatively. The business
s strengths outweigh its weaknesses because the 10 years of built up reputation and
customer loyalty can overcome the weaknesses that are minor in comparison and
could be solved over time. The opportunities are greater than the threats because
Rocky and his business have a lot of areas that can be improved upon and taken
advantage of whereas the only threats that the business face are one current
competitor and the prospect of potential competitors in the future.

45. The Kansas Nebraska Act Was A Plan Drafted By Stephen
A....
Both parties deprecated war; but one of them would make war rather than let the
nation survive; and the other would accept war rather than let it perish. And the war
came, (Abraham Lincoln). The American Civil War was caused by the enmity and
growing friction between the Northerners and the Southerners, mostly over slavery.
The enmity and friction reached to such a level that the Southerners left the Union.
The Northerners had to accept the Civil War because without the war, the South
would be gone and the Union would have been in shambles. The enmity that threw
the United States into the Civil War was caused by numerous amounts of reasons.
One specific reason which helped incite the hostility between the parties was the

The method that Stephen Douglas used to organize the territory of Nebraska, the
Kansas Nebraska Act ultimately led the United States in to a Civil War. Senator
Stephen Douglas of Illinois was the chairman of the Senate Committee on
Territories and he wanted a transcontinental railroad to go through Chicago to
promote more development in the western portion of the United States. In order to
do that, Douglas introduced a bill that would organize the territory of Nebraska.
Douglas expected that the development would subdue tensions between the North
and the South. However, the biggest opponents of this movement were the
Southerners. The Southerners originally rejected the proposal that Stephen
Douglas came up with because the organized territory would become a free state
and which was because of the Missouri Compromise of 1820, which outlawed
slavery above the latitude 36В°30 . To pacify the Southerners, Douglas proposed
the Kansas Nebraska Act. The Kansas Nebraska Act allowed each territory to
determine whether slavery was going to be allowed or not by popular sovereignty.
Popular sovereignty was the idea that the people in the territories decide whether
slavery would be allowed. This act completely undid what the Missouri
Compromise did for 34 years because if Kansas becomes a slave state, due to
popular sovereignty it violates the 36В°30 Missouri Compromise line. The Kansas
Nebraska Act increased the sectional tensions
46. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ipo
An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is the first time that the security of a company is
offered to the public. This process of equity offering is followed by the companies
under the rules and regulations or the guidelines prescribed by Securities
Exchange Board of India (SEBI).IPO is the major source of capital for firm to
raise their capital for their business Replacement, Expansion, Modernization,
Diversification or the host of any other purpose. The pricing of IPOs is one of the
most puzzling phenomena in finance. It is tough to predict its prices on listing day
of trading in Capital market. It is totally depends upon the Market trend, Issue Price,

Various studies have been found on the concept of under pricing phenomena of IPOs.
Peng (2008) described the long run IPO performance, the Shanghai Stock exchange
index was used as a benchmark. These studies analyzed the aftermarket performance
by using the cumulative abnormal returns (CAR) and buy and hold abnormal return
(BHAR). It showed that IPO over performance in six months ofter listing day and
recorded under performance after six months of listing.
Mishra (2009) studied the performance of the Indian IPOs from April 2001 to
March 2009 for the long run. Results show that there exist positive returns on the
listing day. It is found that the down market is a major cause for the poor listing
day performance of the negative group, whereas a positive group does not gain
anything from an up market preceding the IPO. With respect to the average holding
period return, for the negative group (starting day 1, not day 0) becomes significant
only after four years, while it is positive throughout for the positive group. The study
concluded that IPOs in the long yield a return equal to the market, when initial return
